We're going to have a little bit of everything on today's edition of BangTheBook Radio. Two guests will join us, as host Adam Burke starts off the show chatting Conference USA college basketball with Alex Nicolas of the SB Nation blog Miner Rush. The guys will look at the conference as a whole and break down some of Saturday's matchups. Next up, Adam will chat a little bit about the MLB season win totals that we've seen posted at CG Technology in Las Vegas and offshore at 5Dimes Sportsbook. Adam will talk about some of his initial thoughts and the progress on his MLB season win total previews, with a good chunk of the AL East finished thus far. Finally, we'll wrap up with Philip Rossman-Reich from Orlando Magic Daily on the NBA. Yesterday's Trade Deadline was certainly a busy one, especially for the Cavaliers. Philip recently saw the Cavs, so he'll give us some thoughts on how the players fit and we'll talk about some short-term and long-term impacts of the trades that we've seen recently.
A couple of familiar voices join us on today's edition of BangTheBook Radio, as we look to specialize in one college sports conference and then chat a little bit of NBA. Host Adam Burke will start things off with Alex Nicolas of Miner Rush, the SB Nation home of the UTEP Miners. There are a lot of things to discuss regarding Conference USA as we look ahead to the bowl season and dig into the college basketball season. We'll look at those bowl games featuring UAB, Middle Tennessee State, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, North Texas, Marshall, Western Kentucky, Southern Miss, and Louisiana Tech. The guys will also take an introductory look at the college basketball side of things in the conference. Our next guest will be Philip Rossman-Reich from Orlando Magic Daily, who also has bylines at national sites like The Step Back and Talking10, a Big Ten website. The guys will take a look around the NBA to talk about the home/road splits around the league with several teams under the spotlight. They'll also try to isolate some underachievers and overachievers by using the stats and some advanced metrics to determine teams to buy low and those to sell high.
We'll have a little bit of a change with this week's Thursday edition of BangTheBook Radio, but the show must always go on. Our first guest will still be Brad Powers of BradPowersSports.com. He'll join host Adam Burke to chat college football and NFL games with some good stats, trends, and information to help you bang the books this weekend. They'll cover Wake Forest vs. Georgia Tech, UCF vs. Navy, Oklahoma State vs. Texas, and a whole lot more. On the NFL side, they'll chat Bengals vs. Steelers and Falcons vs. Patriots. Our second guest today will be Alex Nicolas of Miner Rush, the SB Nation blog for the UTEP Miners. We'll chat about Conference USA with him, as we look at Western Kentucky vs. Old Dominion and Marshall vs. Middle Tennessee State on Friday and also look at UAB vs. Charlotte, Southern Miss vs. Louisiana Tech, Rice vs. UTSA and the status of UTEP. Conference specialization can be a great betting angle and one that we will focus on with Alex today.
College football starts on Saturday and we are going to do everything that we can to have you prepared for this week and beyond. On our Tuesday August 22 edition of BangTheBook Radio, we'll hear from professional handicapper and bettor Bryan Leonard of WagerTalk.com for this week's Sports Wagering Talk segment. We'll take a look at the futures and the Games of the Year bets that Bryan has placed and discuss what, if any, impact that has had on the betting lines and power ratings set by oddsmakers. They'll also talk about how to approach those teams going into the season. A quick look at the ACC will be an attempt to sort through the interchangeable Coastal Division. Finally, they'll look at Saturday's games with some quick thoughts and analysis. In the second half of today's show, we'll focus on our conference specialization theme by chatting with Alex Nicolas of Miner Rush, the SB Nation home of the UTEP Miners. UTEP is a member of Conference USA, so we'll dig deep into that Group of Five conference to find some betting value on those teams. One is in action on Saturday, as Rice battles Stanford, so we'll talk about that game and also teams like Western Kentucky, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State, and Louisiana Tech.
We're finishing off the week in style here on BangTheBook Radio. We'll start things off with Alex Nicolas of Miner Rush, the SB Nation home of the UTEP Miners to discuss Conference USA's final round of regular season games and the tournament, which tips off next week in Birmingham. Will Middle Tennessee State get an at-large berth? Who will emerge from this conference as the winner? We'll get some good betting nuggets from Alex for this event. Host Adam Burke will open up the BTB Mailbag to answer a couple of listener questions in the second half of today's show and also discuss some NHL, NBA, and college basketball situational betting spots. He's just going to cover a lot of different things, including Major League Baseball, to get you ready for the weekend and beyond.
We've got one more show to go here this week on BangTheBook Radio. We'll start it off with some college basketball conference specialization with Alex Nicolas of Miner Rush, the SB Nation home of the UTEP Miners for a look at Saturday's Conference USA college basketball slate. The NFL playoffs takes center stage this weekend as the biggest events in the sports betting world and we got some insight from Brent of DSI Sportsbook during this week's edition of The Odds Report. Each week, Brent joins us to share what the betting counts look like and to discuss any examples of sharp money. Along with the NFL playoffs, he and host Adam Burke discussed how things wrapped up for the college football season and also briefly touched on the UFC Fight Night 103 line movement and betting action. With some time to fill in his own blanks, your host with the most took the spotlight to chat about some recent NHL developments and to also look at some of his thoughts for the upcoming College Football Playoff in 2018. Upcoming is a strong word, since it's about a year away, but it's never too early to start looking ahead. NHL picks and college football picks seemed like a decent way to wrap up the program for this week because it's all about the variety of topics we have and planning for the future.
Our Hump Day edition of BangTheBook Radio will be one that showcases the variety of topics and guests that we bring to the broadcast. Host Adam Burke will start things off with Alex Nicolas of the SB Nation blog Miner Rush for some Conference USA college basketball betting tips and predictions. We talk about conference specialization on our shows all the time and this is a chance to focus on one of America's less-appreciated mid-majors. We'll chat with Alex about home court advantages in C-USA, about the Thursday and Saturday slates of games for this week, and about what's going on with the UTEP Miners. Wes Reynolds wound up unable to join us on today's segment, so host Adam Burke filled in by talking about some NHL betting stuff and also touching on some important handicapping topics and philosophies. He also added a little bit of analysis at the tail end of the show with a couple of his thoughts for the SBS Tournament of Champions, the first PGA Tour event of 2017 featuring the 32 winners from the 2016 calendar year, including Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, and Dustin Johnson.
It's the last month of the year and what a year it has been for us on BangTheBook Radio. December is a very hectic month for handicapping with the Christmas holiday, bowl games, the push for the NFL playoffs, NHL, NBA, college basketball, and so much going on. Keep it tuned right here and we'll set you up for success. On this Thursday show, host Adam Burke will be joined by Brad Powers of BradPowersSports.com for this week's Powers Picks segment. The guys will cover a long list of conference championship games, including the Pac-12, SEC, ACC, and Big Ten, and also Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma for the Big 12 title. Brad will also share his Week 13 NFL picks and analysis. Host note: The beeping sound in the background was out of our control and we sincerely apologize. It only happened while the host was talking, so please focus on Brad's outstanding analysis and not the 8-bit video game soundtrack in the background of Adam's parts. We'll get some top-notch college football and college basketball analysis for Conference USA from Alex Nicolas of Miner Rush, the SBNation home of the UTEP Miners. We'll get his thoughts on the C-USA football title game between the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. We'll also hear from him on the state of Conference USA for college basketball this season. Jay Primetown of MMAOddsbreaker.com joins us on this 90-minute mega show for a look at The Ultimate Fighter 24 finale at The Palms in Las Vegas. Flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson will take on the winner of the flyweight tournament for TUF 24 and Jay will break down that fight and the others on the card to find you the betting opportunities that can build your bankroll.
Host Adam Burke is able to bring the guests that you need in order to succeed in the sports betting industry each and every week and that's especially true of this show. We'll be joined by Tony George of TonyGeorgeSports.com for the Picks & Predictions segment. Tony shares over 25 years of sports betting experience and insight with us on the college football market and the NFL market. With Sports Cheetah unavailable to join us today, Alex Nicolas of Miner Rush, the SB Nation home of the UTEP Miners, will pinch hit and join us for some in-depth Conference USA game breakdowns to help our listeners take advantage of those lines this weekend.
Jonathan Ford and Matt Valcho recap Louisiana Tech's win over UTEP and talk Conference USA football with Alex Nicolas of MinerRush.com. Tech plays Thursday night against Western Kentucky. Ford and Valcho caught up with Sean Williams of InsideHilltopperSports.com to breakdown the WKU Hilltoppers.
Louisiana Tech experienced an implosion in the second half against Middle Tennessee after being up 27-7. They fell 38-34 and couldn't put it in from inside the 10 on their final drive to take the lead. Jonathan Ford, Jason Jones and Matt Valcho discuss the MTSU game and the Red Out game this weekend in Ruston as UTEP comes to town. MinerRush.com's Alex Nicolas joins the guys to talk UTEP.
We're getting you over the work week hump with an exciting edition of BangTheBook Radio.
