Every city has a family who shapes it. New York City had the Rockefellers. St. Louis had the Bushes. Boston had the Kennedys. Nashville has the Bone family. They are attorneys by trade but political powerhouses and real estate tycoons in practice. In this episode of Climbing the Charts, Angie Lawless and Brandon Miller sit down with Charles Robert Bone. The Nashville Post called the attorney turned developer “one of the most recognizable figures in Nashville's legal, political and development circles.” His resume defends that descriptor. Before joining Southwest Value Partners as Managing Director of Real Estate Investment, Bone was the President and CEO of Bone McAllester Norton, a prominent Nashville law firm. He is also the founder of Phoenix Boats, a bass boat manufacturer based in Winchester, TN, the Southern Steak & Oyster, a beloved restaurant in SoBro, and Acme Feed & Seed, a popular, multi-level restaurant, bar, and event space located on Lower Broadway. Bone has served on several boards, including: The Community Foundation of Middle TN, the Oasis Center, and Hands On Nashville. Most recently, Bone has taken on a key role in one of the most transformative projects in Nashville's modern history—Nashville Yards. The massive mixed-use development is redefining the city's skyline and economic future, blending innovation, entertainment, and urban vibrancy in the heart of downtown. The Nashville Democrat has also worked on local, state, and federal campaigns including, but not limited to: former Mayor Karl Dean's gubernatorial race, Harold Ford's 2006 Senate race, and both of former President Barack Obama's campaigns.
Welcome back to our second season of In My Place. This special series educates listeners on what communities like Nashville can do to prevent and end homelessness — while caring for our neighbors who are still unhoused. Many people experiencing homelessness have to overcome hurdles to access services and housing. In our last episode, we discussed the time tax of filling out redundant paperwork. Once that paperwork is filled out and submitted, people are still unhoused. Today we talk about what happens during that waiting period. We will discuss with our guests how providers work with people while they are in limbo about whether, when, and where they will be able to access housing, and we'll hear how people feel about this waiting period.Over the course of nine monthly episodes, we're learning about what it feels like to access services and weave through our local homelessness and healthcare systems. We're discussing what services work, what resources are missing, and what ideas our guests have for improvement. This series was created thanks in part to support from Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and was produced by Judith Tackett and Tasha AF Lemley. Barbecue is a very personal food. Where you grew up or where you live now often determines your preferences. For some, it's brisket. For others, ribs. And then there's the people of love pulled pork. But it's not just the BBQ you prefer; the style is also essential. People from Texas will argue with those from Kansas City about brisket. In Memphis, they're all about ribs. In fact, Tennessee is very split about its favorites depending on where you live. People in the western part of the state prefer theirs over the styles enjoyed in both Eastern and Middle Tennessee... Yet somehow he used every detail of his past to write songs that magnify the way you experience music. His story has set him up to be one of the most prolific songwriters, gifted guitar players, and passionate singers of our generation. After too many years of living in almost every other city in the U.S and being told relentlessly to move to “Music City” I took only the guitar on my back and began my life in Nashville. Music is the only thing that has always made sense to me in every season of life. Now having collected even more stories over the years, I am devoted to creating songs that will make you truly fall in love with the feeling that only music can give you.

In the winter of 1779, a determined group of Appalachian settlers set out on a thousand-mile journey by river, led by Virginia surveyor John Donelson.Battling disease, starvation, ambushes, and the raw forces of nature, they pushed westward down the Holston River, into the Tennessee River, the Ohio and then up the Cumberland River, all through hostile and unknown lands.Their goal? A place called French Lick—later known as Nashville. In this episode, Steve and Rod trace the expedition that carried Appalachian grit to Middle Tennessee, laying the foundations for the city many call “The Athens of the South.”Be sure to subcribe to the Stories podcast if you haven't done so already. Welcome back to our second season of In My Place. This special series educates listeners on what communities like Nashville can do to prevent and end homelessness — while caring for our neighbors who are still unhoused. In our first two episodes of this season, we talked about what the first point of contact is like between someone who's experiencing homelessness and someone who could potentially offer help — and then how they build trust after that point. In this episode, we talk about what happens next on the road home: the processes and paperwork it takes for people to transition out of homelessness to housing.Over the course of nine monthly episodes, we're learning about what it feels like to access services and weave through our local homelessness and healthcare systems. We're discussing what services work, what resources are missing, and what ideas our guests have for improvement. This series was created thanks in part to support from Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and was produced by Judith Tackett.Guests: Brian Haile, CEO of Neighborhood Health Jesse Call, resident care manager at The Village at Glencliff India Pungarcher, Associate Director of Advocacy, Open Table Nashville

Football Is Family is part of the Sports History Network - The Headquarters For Your Favorite Sports' Yesteryear.EPISODE SUMMARYIn this episode, we look back to the 2010 draft, and go through last year's draft, and look at the number 1 overall draft pick. Why did many of those teams pick quarterbacks number one overall? Did they work out? Interesting questions. Check out what I have found.ABOUT FOOTBALL IS FAMILYDo you bleed your favorite football team's colors each weekend? Does the difference of a W or L in the box score dictate how you respond for the rest of the week? Or do most of your conversations with your family and friends revolve around your favorite football team?If you answered yes to any (or maybe all) of these questions, then you are in the right place. The host of this podcast truly believes that “Football Is Family” and he is on a mission to share the stories of other fans out there sharing how they have been touched by the greatest sport on Earth. Listen below to the trailer and learn more about the host and show.HOST - JEREMY MCFARLINGrowing up in Middle Tennessee, I didn't have a pro football team that was close enough to me to feel a part of. My first memory of pro football was Super Bowl 22. I picked the Broncos to win, and, even though they didn't win, I followed them from that point on.John Elway was (and is) my favorite player. I have played as the Broncos on Tecmo Bowl, Tecmo Bowl Super Bowl, Madden, and 2K Sports. I fondly remember the moments when the Broncos won Super Bowls 32 and 33.Around this time, the Oilers came to Tennessee. I was hooked. I finally had a team just down the road from my hometown of Bon Aqua. Oiler (and later Titans) mania hit this area. Jerseys, hats, footballs, merchandise, and several autographs later, I'm a Titans fan through and through. It's the dedication, the love, and the passion for football that helps me realize that football is family. Each fan base has a story, a history, and a love for their team. That's what I want to talk about each and every podcast. You can follow me @jeremy_mcfarlin. Message me if you want to share your reasons why your football team is family.
