Ready to turn November into a nationwide model show tour? We line up four standout events—ModelZona in Phoenix, the Cleveland Model Show, Charlotte's Region 12 contest, and Middle Tennessee's ModelCon in Murfreesboro—and dig into the details that actually affect your day: judging style, registration windows, vendor-room depth, food, parking, and how fast awards wrap so you're not stuck in your chair at dusk.We start in Phoenix with ModelZona's clean one-room layout near Sky Harbor, a clear first/second/third judging approach, and thoughtful specials like Best 1945 Subject and the Raleigh Williams Craftsmanship Award. Cleveland follows with a Sunday show that truly works: two gyms split contest and vendors, elevated tables for easier viewing and photos, and an eclectic slate of special awards—from Scandinavian subjects to pop-up headlight cars to a people's choice Gundam/Mecha Pose. Charlotte adds a strong theme—From War to Peace—plus a non-sweeps policy, sold-out vendors, custom-designed Best Of awards, and a legendary Atomic Model Smasher for anyone needing a dramatic reset. Murfreesboro's ModelCon caps it with smooth flow, full IPMS categories, sold-out vendors across every genre, and Smokin' Butts BBQ parked out front; last year's 542 models set the tone for an even bigger turnout.Along the way we compare what each organizer gets right: editable PDF forms that speed check-in, early registration cutoffs that keep judging on track, separate halls that reduce crowding, and smart awards that celebrate more than just the top category winners. Most of all, we celebrate the real win—camaraderie. These shows are where online friends become real-world collaborators, techniques get traded, and inspiration sends you home itching to build.Map your route, print your forms, charge your camera, and bring cash for that rare kit you didn't know you needed. Host Tiffany Anton welcomes two sister entrepreneurs whose very different businesses share a common approach: give people real options without the pressure. Tate Craig, owner of Mint to Be, explains how her Cookeville wedding chapel—launched in March—offers courthouse-alternative elopements and simple signings with photo ops, guest seating, seasonal décor, and start-to-finish ease for couples across Middle Tennessee. Connor Giddens, IBCLC behind Foxhole Lactation (rebranded in 2023 from Southern Lactation Services), supports families prenatally and postpartum with individualized feeding plans—breastfeeding, bottle, combo, or formula—guided by low-pressure consultations and client goals. Together they talk boundaries, pricing their value, educating the public on what their services actually do, and the family “village” that makes entrepreneurship possible. It's a practical conversation about designing services around people's real needs—and giving clients permission to choose what works for them.

Pat takes us behind the scenes of the investigation, walking through the painstaking detective work, the turning points that led to Reid's capture, and the courtroom battles that ultimately secured his conviction. With rare insight and first-hand experience, Pat reveals how instinct, evidence, and relentless determination converged to stop a killer who thought he was untouchable. This episode isn't just about the crimes—it's about justice, persistence, and the toll such cases take on law enforcement and communities. without warning by sheila wysocki
In part one of my conversation with Major General Terry “Max” Haston, we go back to where it all began. Terry grew up in small-town Middle Tennessee, surrounded by family, faith, and a deep sense of duty. He opens up about what life was like in the 1970s, how the Vietnam War shaped his generation, and what drew him to ROTC and a lifetime of service. What struck me most was how clear his purpose was, even early on. From those small beginnings to his first military assignments, you can see the through line of integrity, courage, and commitment that defines his leadership today. If you've ever wondered what true service looks like, or how a leader is shaped long before the uniform, this conversation will stick with you.- - - - - - - - - - -Liz Durham Instagram | WebsiteSubscribe Apple Podcast | SpotifyBeing Different with Liz Durham is a Palm Tree Pod Co. production

Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Jeremy Qualls, Executive Director of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center at Williamson County Schools, who discusses the center's growth and success. Established seven years ago, the center initially had 72 students but now has 270 with a long waitlist. The program offers a unique, non-traditional education experience, exposing students to real-world entrepreneurship, including interactions with venture capitalists, mentors, and angel investors. Students spend one period a day at the center, learning through hands-on experiences and collaborations. Mentors include leaders from business, tech, medical and other industries in the community and specialists like a patent attorney.Jeremy Qualls next highlights their pitch process where the student entrepreneurs compete for a grant, which is 100% funded by private donations. He mentions that the winner gets an opportunity to submit to Chicago and that they have had several students make the top 20 in the past. He shares the success story of Anthony Beckett, who created an educational technology product called Markify, which won the IncubatorEdu National Pitch Competition last July and already has gained 12,000 users worldwide. Jeremy mentions that Markify is now looking for angel investment to hire someone to market and sell the product.Jeremy Qualls then discusses the success of a current student, Abby Goddard, who created Spikey, a spiked drink detection keychain. Abby was selected as the winner of their local Shark Tank this year. She recently fulfilled an order for 800 units.Jeremy then introduces The Innovation Hub, a project funded by a grant from the State of Tennessee for vocational education. The Innovation Hub, which will be a 25,000 square foot facility, aims to shift the traditional educational model and create innovative partnerships. He discusses the new vocational pathways being introduced at the central facility. The aviation program, in partnership with Franklin Special School District and Hawkins Flight Academy, allows students to obtain a private pilot license at 16. The program also includes a partnership with MTSU, providing up to 12 hours of college credit. The entrepreneurial program, in partnership with Thompson Caterpillar, offers two post-secondary programs: heavy machine technology and electrical power generation. These programs are designed to provide direct-to-work opportunities and matriculate into post-secondary institutions. The Innovation Hub also will focus on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and hospitality, with a culinary arts program being the largest requested CTE program. The Innovation Hub will include a mock hotel lobby, a work-based learning site with Honest Coffee, and more. The project is expected to be completed by August 2026 for the start of the 2026-2027 school year.Jeremy Qualls wraps up discussing the importance of partnerships in workforce development, particularly in the Middle Tennessee region. He emphasizes the need for business partners with a desire for a return on investment in the form of a future workforce. He also mentions the need for more partners offering apprenticeships or internships, and the possibility of in-kind donations. Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Cindy Siler, CEO of Mercy Community Healthcare, along with Dr. Jesse Malott, Chief Behavioral Health Officer, who both highlight the Federally Qualified Health Center, which has evolved from a children's clinic to provide comprehensive healthcare services to adults and children, including primary care, mental health services, and financial assistance to approximately 14,500 patients annually across Middle Tennessee. The organization has significantly expanded its mental health services, particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic, and implements a "no wrong door" model that allows patients to access care through various channels. Mercy Community Healthcare operates on a sliding fee scale and relies on community support through fundraising events and partnerships to serve all patients regardless of insurance status, with a mission focused on providing compassionate healthcare services.Mercy Healthcare's Comprehensive Services ExpansionMercy Community Healthcare, founded 26 years ago as Mercy Children's Clinic, has expanded to provide comprehensive health services including primary care for adults and children, mental health services, and financial assistance through its patient and family support program. The organization serves approximately 14,500 patients annually with a significant increase in mental health services since the COVID-19 pandemic. Cindy and Dr. Malott explain that Mercy's evolution from a children's clinic to a full-service healthcare provider was driven by recognizing the need to care for families and adults in the community, leading to their designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center in 2013.Regional Mental Health Care ImprovementsDr. Malott discusses the improvements in suicide rates and mental health services in the region, highlighting the success of a "no wrong door" model that allows patients to access mental health care through various channels, including primary care. He explains that trained mental health clinicians have been integrated into primary care settings to address mental health issues more effectively. He also mentions that relational problems and sleep issues, particularly among adolescents, are significant challenges, which he attributes to increased use of smartphones and social media.Family Therapy and Telehealth ServicesDr. Malott discusses the organization's focus on family therapy and couples counseling, highlighting the importance of involving families in mental health care, even in cases of severe mental illness. He explains their extensive service area across Middle Tennessee, including school-based therapy services in 17 schools across two counties, and the use of telehealth to overcome transportation barriers. He also describes their team structure, including 16 counselors, 8 psychiatric nurse practitioners, and a supervising psychiatrist, emphasizing the diversity of skills and expertise within the organization.Community Health Center Access ExpansionCindy and Dr. Malott explain that their health center serves all patients regardless of insurance status, focusing on underinsured and uninsured individuals in their community. They operate on a sliding fee scale and generate revenue from insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare, with less than 10% of their budget coming from federal grants. They emphasize their ongoing efforts to expand services, such as adding pediatricians on Saturdays, to meet the needs of the 38,000 people in their area without access to care.Mercy Healthcare Fundraising InitiativesCindy and Dr. Malott discuss Mercy Community Healthcare's mission to provide healthcare services to all patients, emphasizing their commitment to reflecting Jesus's love and compassion. Cindy highlights their three major annual fundraisers, including a golf tournament, a 10K/5K/1K run, and a fall dinner, as well as their need for community support and sponsors. Cindy also mentions their involvement in various community partnerships and their desire to bring people in for tours of their new building.Visit https://mercytn.org to learn more about Mercy Community Healthcare.

Mondays after a weekend of football just feel different. We've got some really nice weather ahead of us this week with a few showers possible tomorrow, but warm & sunny for the rest of the week. In the news this morning, a couple of people hit on the massive Powerball jackpot this weekend, two Marquette La Crosse players were killed in a car wreck on Friday night by the campus, and a wild story about a fugitive father in New Zealand who had been hiding in the woods with his three kids has been killed by authorities. In sports, the Brewers swept the Pirates this weekend, the Badgers got a nice win over Middle Tennessee on Saturday, the Packers took care of the Lions yesterday, last night's Sunday Night Football game between the Ravens & Bills was an instant classic, and a look at tonight's MNF matchup between the Vikings & Bears. Elsewhere in sports, Denny Hamlin got a win yesterday to make the Round of 12 in the NASCAR playoffs, we talked about the US Open winners, and the grudge between Bill Belichick & the Krafts seems to be getting worse by the day. Obviously, we talked about the Phillies Karen quite a bit this morning as she was ALL OVER social media. Unfortunately, nobody has been able to identify her with absolute certainty……yet. But the internet is coming for her. We let you know what's on TV today/tonight and we talked a bit about last night's MTV VMA's and the tribute to Ozzy featuring Joe Perry & Steven Tyler of Aerosmith with Yungblud. Moo Deng has now been replaced by a new pygmy hippo that was just born at a zoo in Michigan, so you don't need to travel to Thailand to see one any longer, and a guy in New York is going viral for his inspiring signs. A look at how many trees it takes to make the world's toilet paper is making Brian think it's time for a bidet. Did you see the Missouri fan who had a shot at $25,000 for making a field-goal but risked it all to taunt opposing fans? And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about some women who robbed a TJ Maxx but decided to stop by a neighboring Wendy's instead of leaving the scene of the crime, a problem with Target's sweatpants, a #FloridaCouple who were hot-boxing their vehicle with a two-year-old kid in the car, a #FloridaMan who shot at a woman who mistakenly walked up his driveway, and a wedding guest who got cut-off at the bar and decided to punch the bride in the face.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Badgers' defense once again delivered when it mattered most, shutting out Middle Tennessee in the second half and setting the tone with physical play and timely stops. From frustration to fireworks, this game showed both the growing pains and the potential of Luke Fickell's team. In this episode, we break down the slow start, the halftime adjustments, O'Neil's breakout performance, and the defense's consistency as Wisconsin heads into a massive Week 3 showdown with Alabama.Follow the show on Twitter: https://x.com/TheBuckyReportFollow Rajeev on Twitter: https://x.com/RajeevBadgersFollow Justin on Twitter: https://x.com/BuckyReportJJHelp The Bucky Report get some feedback! While I'm at Dragon Con, here's an old Patreon episode about Tennessee water mysteries, including some spooky sightings of what were probably bears, and some mystery fish! Show transcript: Welcome to Strange Animals Podcast. I'm your host, Kate Shaw. As this episode goes live, I should be at Dragon Con, so I decided to go ahead and schedule an old Patreon episode to run instead of trying to get a new episode ready in time. It's about some water mysteries in my home state of Tennessee, although I actually just moved away from Tennessee to Georgia. Tennessee is in the southeastern United States, a long thin state divided into three geographical sections. East Tennessee borders the southern Appalachian Mountains, Middle Tennessee is on the Cumberland Plateau, and West Tennessee borders the Mississippi River. The only natural lake in the state is Reelfoot in northwestern Tennessee, a shallow, swampy body of water formed in the early 19th century. Before 1811, instead of a lake a small river flowed through the area, a tributary of the Mississippi. In earlier accounts, Reelfoot River is called Red Foot River. Most of the residents of the area at the time were Choctaw, although white settlers lived in the small town of New Madrid near the bank of the Mississippi. From December 1811 through February 1812, a series of earthquakes in the New Madrid Seismic Zone changed the land radically. There were three main quakes and innumerable smaller ones, ranging from an estimated 6.7 for the smallest quake to a possible 8.8 for the largest. In the initial quake and aftershocks on 16 December 1811, chimneys collapsed, trees fell, and fissures opened and closed, projecting water or sand high in the air. Boats on the Mississippi capsized as huge waves crashed from bank to bank. A woman named Eliza Bryan, who lived in New Madrid, wrote an account of the quakes: On the 16th of December, 1811, about 2 o'clock a.m., a violent shock of earthquake, accompanied by a very awful noise, resembling loud but distant thunder, but hoarse and vibrating, followed by complete saturation of the atmosphere with sulphurous vapor, causing total darkness. The screams of the inhabitants, the cries of the fowls and beasts of every species, the falling trees, and the roaring of the Mississippi, the current of which was retrograde for a few minutes, owing, as it is supposed, to an eruption in its bed, formed a scene truly horrible. From this time on until the 4th of February the earth was in continual agitation, visibly waving as a gentle sea. On that day there was another shock…and on the 7th, at about 4 o'clock a.m., a concussion took place so much more violent than those preceding it that it is denominated the ‘hard shock.' The Mississippi first seemed to recede from its banks, and its waters gathered up like a mountain… Then, rising 15 or 20 feet perpendicularly and expanding, as it were, at the same time, the banks overflowed with a retrograde current rapid as a torrent. A riverboat captain reported in another account that his boat was caught in a ferocious current on the Mississippi, crashing across waves he estimated as six feet high, or 1.8 m. He also reported whirlpools that he estimated were 30 feet deep, or 9 m. He saw all the trees on either bank fall at once. The December quake was so large it was felt across North America, from Canada to the Gulf Coast. Then, only five weeks later, it happened again, followed by the third major earthquake on 7 February. Only 15 miles, or 24 km, from the epicenter, the land dropped 20 feet, or 6 m, and created a basin that immediately filled with water. Reelfoot Lake was formed, Tennessee's only natural lake. Reelfoot is a state park these days, popular with boaters, fishers, hunters, and birdwatchers. The only cryptid sighting I could find took place in the Glass community near Obion, within ten miles, or 16 km, of the lake. A man who grew up in Glass reported in 2009 that a bipeda...
