Who's got worse daddy issues than an aging Vulcan? Sarek does! Mark Lenard returns to go toe-to-toe with Patrick Stewart and it's illogical (ILLOGICAL! ILLOGICAL!) to assume anything other than a throw-down master class in acting is about to occur. Ambassador Sarek is onboard with his wife to complete a 97-year diplomatic mission, but he's so old that he's psycho-actively making the crew of the Enterprise collectively lose their tempers. Beverly beats Wesley, science officers beat up Riker, Worf and O'Brien and Geordi says some shit he can't take back. But a mindmeld fever dream scene straight out of Star Trek Acid Party is all we need to make everything status quo again. Get in touch with us on Twitter @ReEngageTNG! While transferring a ship full of volatile Federation ambassadors to a crucial interplanetary conference, the Enterprise is pursued by a mysterious alien vessel with unknown motives. That increases tension among the passengers, which include Spock's human mother, Amanda, and his Vulcan father, Ambassador Sarek, with whom he has been estranged for years. When Sarek falls ill and Captain Kirk is attacked and seriously wounded by one of the alien passengers, Spock insists on taking command of the Enterprise, which leaves him unwilling to perform the vital blood transfusion needed to save his father's life. It's hard to imagine another “Star Trek” episode that has more going on in it than “Journey to Babel,” but it all comes together seamlessly, thanks to a brilliant teleplay by Dorothy Fontana, the always-proficient direction of Joseph Pevney and stellar performances from the entire cast. “Journey to Babel” is a beloved “Star Trek” classic that literally has it all — action, suspense, heart and even a little bit of humor — which is why it still has the last word and holds up to this very day. Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise are assigned to escort Ambassador Sarek to the planet Akiron, a world rich in dilithium deposits. However, upon arrival, they discover the people of Akiron under attack by strange creatures, described by their victims as “demons.” It is now up to Kirk, guided by a mysterious Kathikar mystic, to save the people of Akiron from these sinister “wights.” Meanwhile, Sarek’s Vulcan aide, L’Nel, has a diabolical plan in place for Spock--a plan that will result in his death! In this episode of the Positively Trek Book Club, Bruce Gibson and Dan Gunther are joined by author David Mack to discuss his Kelvin Timeline novel, More Beautiful than Death. We talk about the long road this book took to publication, how David wrote the characters of the Kelvin Timeline, Sarek’s role in the story, how Kirk’s beliefs inform his character, and the Spock/L’Nel subplot. We also talk about David Mack’s role as a consultant on Lower Decks and Prodigy, and wrap up with what he is working on now and where he can be found online. Get ready to surrender control of your feelings as we negotiate with "Sarek"!Anika Dane and Liz Barr, the hosts of Antimatter Pod, join the show the week to discuss an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation that sees the return of a legendary Trek character and actor. Ambassador Sarek is negotiating a treaty that will be the crowning achievement of a life dedicated to service and self-control. But, when a rare disease causes his turbulent emotions to infect those around him, he'll have to cede control of his mind to Captain Picard, who may find his own mind consumed by Sarek's suppressed regrets and desires!Gene Roddenberry, for all of his faults, was a man with a vision of a future where humanity had conquered its demons and pursued peace and self-improvement. But as he neared the end of his life, he, like Sarek, found his faculties waning and he was similarly forced to pass on his creation to a willing and able new generation of writers and creators. On this episode, we talk about the tragic frustration of senescence and senility, the futility of trying to secure your legacy, the way TNG found itself in its third season, the talent and dignity of Mark Lenard, the versatility and bravery of Patrick Stewart, and the joy of seeing these two acting legends meet on screen. We also discuss dressing up your pillows, the American Doctor Who film, hitting for the cycle on TOS aliens, succession planning for franchises, the "kidnapping season", the Geordi/Wesley watchlist, dating Eleanor Roosevelt, strong wimple game, real emotions and fake tears, the mystery of Frakes's finger, Anika thinks Perrin and Picard are a thing, Liz shares her research into Trek novel author demographics, and Kal has to apologize to Garrett Wang!Bring back the Legarans, cowards!Listen to Antimatter Pod and follow them on Twitter!http://antimatterpod.tumblr.comhttp://www.twitter.com/antimatterpodhttp://www.twitter.com/_lizbarrhttp://www.twitter.com/manicpixiedaneTake our internet survey and help the show grow!https://t.co/8ObEGRBWzS?amp=1Criticize our dating life on Facebook and Twitter and our Facebook group!http://www.facebook.com/eistpodhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/eistpod/http://www.twitter.com/eistpodBuy us hot tub Kool-Aid on Patreon!http://www.patreon.com/eistpodSubscribe to the show on iTunes!https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/enterprising-individuals/id1113165661?mt=2

The USS Discovery finds itself back in the prime universe nine months from the time they unexpectedly ended up in the Mirror universe. They are forcibly boarded by Federation officers and officials, including Admiral Katrina Cornwell and Ambassador Sarek. The Discovery crew learn the Klingons are winning the war having destroyed over 1/3 of the Federation fleet and taken over 20% of Federation territory. The Discovery’s Mirror counterparts, the ISS Discovery was destroyed by The Klingons soon after it appeared in the prime universe. The Klingons are not united. Instead, Klingon houses are wantonly destroying Federation efforts to demonstrate dominance among the other Klingon dynasties. L’Rell advises Cornwell, now that the Klingons have tasted their blood, they will not stop the destruction until the Federation and its people are annihilated. Michael Burnham turns to Mirror Georgiou for advice, since the former Terran Emperor has had success against the Klingons in her world. Burnham subsequently reveals Mirror Georgiou’s presence and identity to Sarek and Admiral Cornwall. Desperate to find a way to save the Federation, with Sarek’s knowledge Cornwell places Mirror Georgiou in command of the Discovery under the ruse that she is actually the former Captain of the Shengzhou. Cornwell claimed Georgiou had been presumed dead but actually had been held by the Klingons and was recently rescued in a covert operation. Georgiou is now charged with leading a mission to – Kronos - the Klingon home world – where they are to gather intel to destroy key military assets to decisively turn the tide of the war to the Federation’s favor.

The Original Series as Prerequisite. Viewers of The Next Generation started watching at different points in their Trek fandom -- for some, it was their first exposure to Star Trek, while other "legacy" Trekkies came to it after The Original Series and movies featuring Captain James T. Kirk and his crew. Guest co-host Andi VanderKolk, aka @FirstTimeTrek, joins Daniel, Darren, and Phillip in discussing how knowledge of TOS enhances the TNG viewing experience. Earl Grey explores whether it makes a difference if you discovered the character of Ambassador Sarek in the Next Gen episode "Sarek" without first seeing TOS "Journey to Babel." Does the appearance of Scotty ("Relics") and Spock ("Unification, Parts 1 and 2") have meaning without first experiencing the adventures of the NCC-1701 (no bloody A, B, C, or D!). We discuss "copy and paste" episodes like "The Naked Now" compared to "The Naked Time," and the use of Star Trek: Phase II scripts in TNG. Grab your copy of the 1966-1969 series, and explore how TOS is a required prerequisite for TNG.HostsDaniel Proulx, Phillip Gilfus, & Darren MoserGuestAndi VanderKolkEditor / ProducerDarren MoserExecutive ProducersNorman C. Scotty in TNG.The continuing mission of the characters from Star Trek The Original Series was left a verboten topic for the first half of The Next Generation. However, after the appearance of Ambassador Sarek in season three ("Sarek"), as well as the cameo of a certain ornery admiral in the pilot episode "Encounter at Farpoint," the floodgates were open for TOS characters to "special" guest star in the second incarnation of Trek on television. Captain Montgomery "Scotty" Scott beamed into the 24th century in the sixth season episode "Relics" and found it difficult to find a place on this new Enterprise, with its "bloody" D suffix. Daniel Proulx, Darren Moser, and guest co-host Andy Farber explore Scotty's difficulties of being a man out of his time, and whether theTNG writers were faithful to his character. The interplay between the competingEnterprise chief engineers, Scotty and Lt. Cmdr. Geordi LaForge, reveal not only the differences between those two characters, but also the differences between the two beloved Trek television shows. Join Earl Grey as they mourn poor Franklin, drink something green, and remember times past on the Holodeck for their discussion of Scotty's appearance on TNG.HostsDaniel Proulx and Darren MoserEditor / ProducerDarren Moser Production Manager Richard Marquez Content Coordinator Will Nguyen ChaptersGuest Andy (00:02:10)Relics (00:10:30) Hey look, its Scotty!
