That is, until they realized how hard it was to update the software once it had been released. DevOps techniques were created to shorten the development life cycle and provide high quality software on a regular basis. The same thing is happening in the tech industry today, as we're beginning to operationalize Machine Learning with MLOps technologies. Andrew Brust, CEO of Blue Badge Insights and lead analyst for GigaOm, came in to discuss what MLOps is, why it matters, and some different approaches people are taking to it.Hear about applications of MLOps in the Bonus Minutes on our website, mlminutes.com, where you can also find episode transcripts, additional resources, and more. Data analytics has evolved - have you kept up? Richard chats with Andrew Brust about the revolution taking place in data analytics in general and Microsoft efforts in the space specifically. Andrew talks about how tools like SQL Server OLAP Services renamed to become Analytics Services, and then moved into the cloud. Not that you need to be in the cloud to do analytics - there are plenty of on-premises tools as well, but it sure does help to be in the cloud. Data analytics workloads are very bursty and well suited to the utility computing offered by the cloud. Lots of links in the show notes, check them out!
This week on the Analytics on Fire, we’re featuring an exciting interview with Andrew Brust (my personal Big Data go-to mentor), a 15 year Big Data veteran who not only is the Senior Director, at Datameer, but also is a highly sought-after influencer on the topic of Big Data and talks about the industry in his ZDNet column Big On Data. I was luckily able to arrange an interview with Andrew and it couldn't have turned out better. In This Episode, You'll Learn: Why there’s a certain “fetish” around the size of Big Data projects (and the false bragging rights that go with 'data size'). Andrew’s rule of thumb on what big data really is... "If it’s too big, only then is it Big Data.” The three V's of Big Data (and the recent fourth V) and how they pertain to you as a data-driven organization. Andrew's distinction between BI and Big Data, and why they may become less useful in the future. The ultimate soft skill that every ‘data-interested’ person should brush up on to get the most out of data. What business intelligence professionals need to know before deciding to become a "data scientist". What’s happening that makes basic data analysis more accessible to companies and people interested in harnessing the power of big data. The five Big Data Myths and Andrew’s insights to where they are true (AND where they’re false). How to get real ROI from big data. Andrew's answer to the question: "Is the Internet Of Things a high-value opportunity or is it just a buzz word?" Carl and Richard talk to Andrew Brust about Big Data. Andrew starts off connecting together the definitions of business intelligence, data analytics, OLAP, data warehousing and big data. They're all related, even though they've come at the problem of understanding data from different directions. The conversation digs deeply into Hadoop, the Linux-centric MapReduce technology that has come to define the idea of Big Data, as well as Microsoft's implementation once called Project Isotope and now known as HDInsight.
