Och extra mycket tack till er som skickat bidrag via våra Swish: Martina Jansson x8, David Burman x7, Malin Gille x3, Sören Asp x3, Johanna Nyholm x2, Jon Andri Zogg x2, Ellen Thompson, Yvonne Eidenbrant, Magdalena Rickardsson, Magnus Häggström, Eden Ljunghager, Markus Erlandsson, Marcus Lind, Martin Schori, Katja Lomarker, Sebastian Löfwrnhamn, Elin Bergman, Oscar Petersson, Katrin Andersson, Elina Fröjd, Magnus Granmyre, Dennis Jansson, Alexandra Grins, Astrid Ericson, Jim Jonsson, Simon Roshagen, Johanna Nyholm, Edward Eriksson, Emelie Forsblom, Nerima Ouma, Oscar Pettersson, Magnus Foss, Philip Tisting, Cilla Jarminde, Axel Skog, Malin Ervik, Kim Johansson, Jon Larsson, Anne Tysnes, Jonna Broberg, Pelle Eriksson, Helen Andersson och Erik Ekstrand! Ok so first things first, apologies for no doubt mangling the pronunciation of Tahere in the intro!! What an absolute pleasure it was to have Teniwa join us on The ASP with DT podcast. Teniwa is a very genuine, honest and incredibly funny person who is always a joy to be around. We chatted about her much loved family who have had such a huge impact in the ASP community and Teniwa very generously lets us in on how her and her partner (my dawg) Arti juggle parenting while still keeping the flame between them well and truly lit.Had a great chat about Teniwas growing business LashMamaT and got an insight into what's next for Teniwa and her family. If you haven't already go and give Teniwa a follow on Instagram at @lashmamat and while you're there chuck us a follow at @theaspwithdtAs always thanks for tuning in, let us know what you make of the show, hope you really enjoy episode 55 with Teniwa, big love ASP!
Born in Hawaii in 1983 and raised in a beachfront home on the North Shore, with a view out to Pipeline, Jamie O'Brien started surfing at age three. As an amateur, he went on a contest trajectory—making the finals of the menehune division of the 1995 and '96 US Surfing Championships, and the finals in the 1999 and 2000 World Junior Championships. Most impressive, though, was his close relationship with Pipeline. He seemed to toy with the world's deadliest wave. In 2003, he won the Hansen's Energy Pipeline Pro. In 2004, he won the Pipe Masters. In the aughts, O'Brien revealed his defiant side when he burned an ASP rulebook in a Red Bull-sponsored video. He took his career into his own hands, starring in the videos Freak Show, Freak Side, and Who is JOB?, the latter of which led to a web series. In it, he was self-effacing, absurdist, and refreshingly not serious. The videos resonated with viewers, and soon O'Brien became his own brand, making YouTube clips that would shoot into the million-views realm. He rode soft tops at big Pipe. He pulled wild stunts, including famously bringing pyrotechnics to Teahupoo. Now 42, O'Brien lives just down the beach from the house he grew up in. He's recently founded a surf school, The Jamie O'Brien Experience. And he's still charging, playing, and documenting it all. In this episode of Soundings, O'Brien talks with Jamie Brisick about growing up on the North Shore, the hierarchy at Pipeline, his relationship to competition, getting creative in the lineup, and documenting his day-to-day life on camera. Produced by Jonathan Shifflett. Music by PazKa (Aska Matsumiya & Paz Lenchantin).

The discussion explores the challenges of writing comprehensive technical books, the importance of foundational knowledge in full stack development, and how to integrate ASP.NET Core with modern JavaScript frameworks like React, Angular, and Vue.js.Alexandre emphasizes that successful architecture decisions depend primarily on team expertise and the ability to facilitate change, rather than following trends. The conversation also highlights the critical importance of looking beyond just coding - encompassing project planning, DevOps practices, monitoring, and continuous optimization - to truly bring value to customers and become well-rounded software engineers.RECOMMENDED BOOKSAlexandre Malavasi • Modern Full-Stack Web Development with ASP.NET Core • https://amzn.to/4pvEXnYAlexandre Malavasi • Implementing Design Patterns in C# 11 and .NET 7 • https://amzn.to/49CapwnAlexandre Malavasi • Enterprise Applications with C# and .NET • https://amzn.to/4iiVidkAlexandre Malavasi • Implementing Design Patterns in C# and .NET 5 • https://amzn.to/3JU5UD2Albert Tanure • ASP.NET Core 9 Essentials • https://amzn.to/43bH73tBlueskyTwitterInstagramLinkedInFacebookCHANNEL MEMBERSHIP BONUSJoin this channel to get early access to videos & other perks:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCs_tLP3AiwYKwdUHpltJPuA/joinLooking for a unique learning experience?Attend the next GOTO conference near you!

Och extra mycket tack till er som skickat bidrag via våra Swish: Martina Jansson x8, David Burman x7, Malin Gille x3, Sören Asp x3, Johanna Nyholm x2, Jon Andri Zogg x2 Magnus Häggström, Eden Ljunghager, Markus Erlandsson, Marcus Lind, Martin Schori, Katja Lomarker, Sebastian Löfwrnhamn, Elin Bergman, Oscar Petersson, Katrin Andersson, Elina Fröjd, Magnus Granmyre, Dennis Jansson, Alexandra Grins, Astrid Ericson, Jim Jonsson, Simon Roshagen, Johanna Nyholm, Edward Eriksson, Emelie Forsblom, Nerima Ouma, Oscar Pettersson, Magnus Foss, Philip Tisting, Cilla Jarminde, Axel Skog, Malin Ervik, Kim Johansson, Jon Larsson, Anne Tysnes, Jonna Broberg, Pelle Eriksson, Helen Andersson och Erik Ekstrand! The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has finalized the 2026 Outpatient Perspective Payment System (OPPS) rule, with most policies taking effect on January 1, 2026. Jenna Stern, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Public Policy at Vizient, joins host Carolyn Liptak, Pharmacy Executive Director in Vizient's Center for Pharmacy Practice Excellence, to discuss key updates to payment policies, payment rates, and quality provisions affecting Medicare beneficiaries receiving care in hospital outpatient departments and ambulatory surgical centers. Guest speaker: Jenna Stern Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Public Policy Vizient Host: Carolyn Liptak, MBA, RPh Pharmacy Executive Director Vizient Verified Rx Host Show Notes: 00:05 — Introduction Announcer welcomes listeners to VerifiedRx. Host Carolyn Liptak, Pharmacy Executive Director at Vizient, introduces the episode focus: the 2026 CMS Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) Final Rule. Guest: Jenna Stern, VP of Regulatory Affairs and Public Policy at Vizient. 01:12 — Overview of the OPPS Final Rule OPPS sets Medicare payment for most hospital outpatient services. Published annually (typically November), effective January 1. Covers payment rates, policies, quality programs, and compliance requirements. Note: CMS delayed enforcement of hospital price transparency requirements until April 1, 2026. 01:34 — Key Takeaways From the 2026 Final Rule Jenna's high-level insights: Hospitals will continue facing financial pressure in 2026. Modest payment rate increase combined with reimbursement-reducing policies. Expansion of site-neutral payment policies will be particularly impactful. Rule reflects emerging administration priorities shaping future policy. 02:21 — OPPS Payment Rate Update for 2026 CMS finalized a 2.6% OPPS schedule increase factor for hospitals meeting quality reporting requirements. 02:40 — What the 2.6% Increase means Based on: 3% market basket update –0.7% productivity adjustment Results in a modest net increase. Slightly better than the proposed 2.4% increase, though still viewed as inadequate. CMS estimates $8 billion increase in total OPPS payments compared to 2025. 03:37 — 340B Remedy Offset: Background From 2018–2022, CMS paid for 340B drugs at ASP –22.5%. Prior Supreme Court decision from 2022 found that CMS lacked authority to vary rates as finalized in prior rulemaking (e.g., without using drug acquisition cost surveys to inform policy). 04:13 — 340B Remedy Offset in the 2026 Final Rule CMS considered increasing the remedy offset from 0.5% to 2%. Stakeholders strongly opposed the increase due to hospital financial strain. 05:10 — Final Outcome CMS retained the 0.5% offset for 2026. CMS signaled that larger offsets may be proposed for 2027. This marks the first year the remedy offset takes effect, 06:00 — Site-Neutral Payment Policy: What It Is Concept: same service = same payment, regardless of site of care. Hospital concern: policy reduces hospital reimbursement without accounting for site of care differences, patient acuity, overhead, or service complexity. 06:15 — Site-Neutral Expansion in the 2026 Rule CMS expanded site-neutral payment to include drug administration services at excepted off-campus provider-based departments. 07:08 — Financial Impact Reimbursement aligns with Physician Fee Schedule rates. CMS estimates $290 million reduction in outpatient spending for 2026. $220 million of savings accrue directly to Medicare. Not implemented in a budget-neutral manner. 08:14 — Non-Opioid Pain Management Payments Temporary additional payments began January 1, 2025. Authorized under the NO PAIN Act (Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023). 08:28 — What's New for 2026 CMS finalized the renewal of: 5 drugs 13 medical devices eligible for separate payment in HOPD and ASC settings. Per statue, payments available through December 31, 2027. 09:32 — Process Improvements CMS will allow more frequent consideration of new qualifying products (not limited to annual updates). Quality criteria unchanged; timing flexibility added. CMS released guidance on how stakeholders can engage for inclusion. 10:58 — OPPS Drug Acquisition Cost Survey CMS finalized plans to survey hospitals on acquisition costs for separately payable OPPS drugs. 11:21 — Why CMS Is Advancing the Survey Addresses Supreme Court requirements from prior 340B litigation. Aligns with White House Executive Order on lowering drug prices. Positions CMS to use survey data for 2027 rulemaking. 12:47 — OPPS Packaging Thresholds for 2026 Drugs and biologics: Threshold remains at $140. Diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals: Increased to $655 (from $630). Products below thresholds retain Status Indicator “N” (packaged payment). 13:26 — Why Billing Packaged Drugs Still Matters Even though not separately payable, hospitals must bill for packaged drugs. Billing data feeds cost reports used to calculate future bundled payments. Failure to bill can result in inaccurately low reimbursement. 14:14 — Elimination of the Inpatient-Only (IPO) List CMS finalized a three-year transition to eliminate the IPO list by January 1, 2029. 14:32 — Why This Change Is Significant IPO list historically ensured certain services were provided inpatient only. CMS emphasizes provider judgment in determining site of care. Raises concerns about: Patient safety Payer coverage changes Pressure to move services outpatient 16:28 — ASC Covered Procedure List Expansion CMS expanded the ASC Covered Procedure List. Enables more Medicare covered services to be performed in the ASC settings. 16:48 — Price Transparency: Still a Priority No major overhaul, but continued refinement. CMS exploring new uses of price transparency data beyond patient comparison. 17:46 — Most Critical Policies to Watch Jenna highlights: Modest OPPS payment increase Site-neutral payment expansion 340B remedy offset Drug acquisition cost survey Broader regulatory activity beyond OPPS 18:43 — Available Vizient Resources OPPS Final Rule Summary Government Relations & Public Policy Summaries Advocacy 19:20 — Closing Carolyn thanks Jenna for her insights. We honor our guests and the works they have done and continue to do in the name of transformation, empowerment, engagement across the multiple sectors of our society. Is It Possible to Build Trust in Community-Police Relations? Conversation with Shadae McDaniel Senior Vice President/Programs and Strategic Initiatives/Director, All Stars Project (ASP) of New Jersey. Beginning in February we hosted an in-depth exploration of the All Stars-Project and its signature program "Operation Conversation Cops and Kids." In March our case study focused on the Until We Are All Free Movement with guest Kevin Reese, Co-Founder/Co-Executive Director of UWAAF and Co-Founder/CEO of Until We Are All Free Consulting Group.Question: God, what is it that you're working on in my life? What do you do when the answer is build a bridge of people and be a bridge through and with people? Kevin is the answer. Kevin grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He spent 14 years incarcerated inside of the criminal justice system. During that time, he founded the BRIDGE, a grassroots group of directly impacted criminal justice experts whose mission is to abolish mass incarceration and to find a path to true transformative criminal justice. Kevin says,“My idea was to create a program that builds a bridge between people like me, mostly men in prison but women, too, and the community. That bridge and this work is actually revolutionary. Because I'm not supposed to be able to make a connection to people on the outside. Prison is all about preventing that. But the BRIDGE partnership we've been working on gives light to an entire caste of people who are incarcerated.”Youth Empowerment Services, of Pittsburgh PA: “Ahead of its time and punching above its weight, Youth Enrichment Services (YES) formed in 1994...The heart of YES is a spirit of mentorship...By leveraging their unique skills and abilities and centering their voices, YES has created a formula for success that influences community growth, economic prosperity, and student-driven leadership." In this special 2025 U.S. Policy Highlights edition of the Vital Health Podcast, we look back at our most important discussions on Most Favored Nation (MFN) drug pricing and its knock-on effects for jobs, state budgets, and the generic supply chain. Over the past year, proposals to link U.S. prices to those in other countries have collided with inflation pressures, tariff debates, and reshoring efforts, creating new uncertainty for manufacturers, payers, and policymakers. In an environment where expectations about future returns are shifting, and the rules of the game are still being defined, this episode is designed as a year-end guide to what MFN-style policies could mean in practice and how to think about the tradeoffs. Throughout 2025, we our research on MFN-style reference pricing with a series of podcast episodes where host Duane Schulthess sat down with leaders across the generic, distribution, and policy landscape. In this highlights episode, we revisit several of those conversations: Kirsten Axelsen: Part D Shift, IRA Penalties, and Access Risks Patrick Kelly: Inside the Generic Supply Chain Squeeze John Murphy: Generics, Biosimilars, and U.S. Policy VT’s Grumpies (Harry Bowen, Joe Hammang) Talk MFN Key Topics: MFN Mechanics Explained: How tying U.S. prices to the lowest GDP-adjusted price in a reference basket translates into steep cuts for top-spend medicines in Medicare Parts B and D and shapes expectations across commercial and Medicaid contracts. Jobs, Earnings, & State Budgets: What our modeling suggests about potential impacts on employment, earnings, and tax revenue under MFN-style reference pricing, and how those effects concentrate in R&D-intensive regions and manufacturing hubs. Spillovers Into Medicaid, 340B, & ASP: Why MFN in Medicare does not stay in Medicare, how Medicaid best price and 340B ceilings pull discounts across programs, and what lower ASP add-ons could mean for hospital and community oncology margins. Generics, Shortages, & Tariffs: How razor-thin margins for sterile injectables and generic manufacturers interact with purchaser consolidation, tariff shocks, and price referencing, raising the risk of exits, inventory write-downs, and persistent shortages. Global Competition & Offshoring: How aggressive reference pricing can accelerate shifts in trials, licensing, and high-value manufacturing to countries that offer more predictable returns, and what that implies for long-run U.S. competitiveness. Alternatives To MFN: Ideas from our guests on value-based approaches, targeted incentives, and other tools that can improve affordability without hollowing out domestic capacity, innovation, and resilience in the generic and biosimilar supply chain. Opinions expressed are those of the speakers.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

"And we want to make sure that You know, we we do as many of those as we can. We want to remove those paper cuts, make you as happy as possible. And so if you look back at the last 12 months, we have of you know of all the bugs people have opened on us, we fixed almost 4500 user-reported bugs. That's 18 bugs that we fixed every single work day."— Mads Kristensen Did you know that Mads was present for what many see as the inciting incident that lead to .NET being both open source and cross platform: when jQuery was bundled with ASP .NET Framework and Visual Studio.. We also took some time to talk about bug reports, the things that you and I can do to ensure that our bug reports are read, providing positive feedback, the Visual Studio teams' velocity, and some of the amazing new features in Visual Studio 2026 like the ... well, I'm getting ahead of myself. You'll have to listen in to the episode to find out what those features are. It's also worth noting that I recorded this podcast with Mads back in late August 2025, which was way ahead of the public preview of Visual Studio 2026. Salesforce, the world's #1 AI CRM, has unveiled its 2025 Cyber Week results (November 25-December 1), analysing shopping data from over 1.5 billion shoppers. This was another record-breaking shopping week, with overall industry global sales increasing 7% year over year (YOY) to €286billion, with Black Friday sales in Ireland increasing 19%. These results signal a strong consumer appetite for buying this holiday season despite increasing global prices, and they demonstrate AI and agents as fundamental accelerators for purchase and productivity in commerce. AI and agents deliver outsized impact on Cyber Week sales and service AI and agents were pivotal elements in shoppers' path to purchase, driving €57 billion in sales by delivering personalised, high-converting shopping experiences. Across Cyber Week, AI and agents influenced 20% of all global orders via personalised product recommendations and conversational customer service. Pandora, Shark Ninja, and Funko and other retailers who utilised Salesforce's Agentforce 360 and their own branded agents saw sales grow 32% faster than those without. Beyond purchases, AI agents efficiently managed the influx of inquiries to emerge as customer service heroes. Agentic customer service conversations grew 55% week over week. Crucially, the volume of agent actions - including updating delivery addresses and initiating returns - surged by 70% compared with the previous week, offsetting administrative loads for service teams and lowering operational costs. Salesforce powers Cyber Week with trust, scale, and AI agents The foundation of Cyber Week's success for global retailers was the trust and unified power of Agentforce 360. Brands drove profitable growth and scaled their operations, supported by Salesforce's 100% uptime the entire week, including Agentforce Commerce, which powered 61 million orders on digital storefronts. The scale extended across channels as retailers managed 76% more orders on the Order Management System (OMS) platform while Agentforce Marketing delivered personalised outreach by sending 56.3 billion marketing messages. On Black Friday, historically the largest day of the year for in-store shopping, Salesforce's Retail Point ofSale (POS) saw 96% YOY growth in order volumes. 2025 Cyber Week Industry Insights Cyber Week sets a new global record: Consumers demonstrated strong activity, continuing to spend throughout the week and driving healthy sales growth numbers for retailers. Black Friday drove €67 billion in global sales (up 6% YOY), up 19% in Ireland. . Black Friday also accounted for 31% of all in-store sales during Cyber Week, making it the largest in-store shopping day of the week. Meanwhile, Cyber Monday drove €45 billion in global online sales, which was up 15% in Ireland. Mobile shopping becomes the digital default: Mobile devices drove 70% of online orders both globally, and mobile wallets continued to grow as a top form of payment, used for 27% of all global orders. Meanwhile, social media is becoming a critical entry point for shoppers, driving 15% of all global digital traffic to retailers' sitesConsumer spending stays strong: The average selling price (ASP) across Cyber Week increased 6% YOY. But in the end, consumers were undeterred by these price hikes - Cyber Week order volumes still grew by 2% globally and 1% in the U.S. compared with last year. This signals that shoppers saw this time frame as the best week of the year to make purchases regardless of price hikes. "Irish shoppers with their well known eye for value continue to embrace Black Friday and Cyber Monday as a key moment in their Christmas shopping plans. This year's growth highlights the power that agentic AI can bring, with significant increases in predictive recommendations and conversion across the week. It shows the scale of the opportunity for Irish businesses of every size to adopt these new capabilities and deliver faster, smarter, and more personal experiences that meet rising custom...

Show Notes Hey everyone, and welcome back to The Modern .NET Show; the premier .NET podcast, focusing entirely on the knowledge, tools, and frameworks that all .NET developers should have in their toolbox. I'm your host Jamie Taylor, bringing you conversations with the brightest minds in the .NET ecosystem. This episode is a super important, top-of-the-heap, bonus episode that you definitely need to be listening to. I, basically, reached out to Hayden Barnes, who we've just now had on the show to talk about .NET never-ending support and what happens when you drop out of support with Microsoft. The reason that I did that, and the reason that this intro is so raw is because we talked about what is known as "the worst CVE for the internet as a whole. If you want to Google it while we're talking right now, look for "CVE 2025-55315". We'll get into it in a moment, but pretty much everything on the internet is susceptible to this, and only .NET 8, 9, and 10 have a fix. Nothing else has a fix in the. NET space. Red Wings Rant — Episode Narrative (Nov 19) “20 Games In: First Place… and Still Flawed?” The Detroit Red Wings reached the 20-game mark in first place in the Atlantic Division — a sentence that would've sounded insane seven days ago, when this team was stuck in the mud, blowing leads, and wrestling with its identity. And the wildest part? Both versions of the Red Wings — the playoff version, and the meltdown version — showed up this week. Last Week: A Test of Consistency We said: If the Wings could take advantage of a soft stretch — Ducks, Sabres, Rangers, Kraken — they could claw back into a strong position. One week later? They did exactly that. They handled Anaheim, threw away a 4–1 lead vs Buffalo but still got a point, gutted out a win at MSG, and closed out the Kraken with a mature, structured third period — something they haven't done most of the season. That's growth. That's progress. But the path to get here still tells us a lot about the team. Game Management: The New Buzzword That Actually Matters Todd McLellan has hammered this theme all year: “Until this group figures out what's important at certain times, we're going to have those nights.” Against Buffalo? Total collapse. Against New York and Seattle? Finally, the shutdown hockey he's been begging for. The Seattle third period wasn't flashy — five shots allowed, perfect breakouts, clean faceoffs, pucks deep, smart changes. It was the most professional 20 minutes this team has played this season. This is what real playoff teams do. But the challenge now is: Can it be repeated? Stars Are Driving the Bus Larkin, DeBrincat, and Raymond are all pacing career-level seasons: Larkin: 600 points + scoring at a star level Cat: Tenacious, complete, and reliable no matter the line Raymond: Finally looking healthy — nine points in his last four And Moritz Seider is quietly playing elite two-way hockey despite a few headline-grabbing mistakes. The Rookies: High Impact, High Volatility The 2023 class stole the show early, then went quiet… …and came roaring back against Seattle: Danielson's first NHL goal Nearly another (called back) Finnie's power-play goal after Danielson set him up ASP steadying after a rough stretch These three have brought energy AND mistakes — but the energy has clearly returned to the lineup. Goaltending: The Split Is Clear Cam Talbot: +1 GSAX, making the saves Detroit needs Steady, calm, veteran presence John Gibson: 11th-worst GSAX, sub-.875 save percentage High-danger rebounds, bad-angle goals, and collapsing confidence around him Detroit's Jekyll-and-Hyde identity? It's not just game management. It's also which goalie is in the net. 20-Game Snapshot: The Good and The Questions What's working: Stars producing PK massively improved Rookies making real contributions Defensive improvements in structure Third-period closure vs Seattle In playoff position despite flaws 1st place in the division at the quarter-mark What still needs answers: Will this team ever find consistent scoring from the middle six? Can Gibson turn it around? Can they avoid the rookie wall? Will they protect leads consistently? Can they replicate the Seattle third period against real contenders? This is a good team. It might even be a playoff team. But the story for the next 62 games is simple: Are the Red Wings learning how to win? Or surviving despite themselves? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Fatal Police Shooting Caught On A Camera He Bought. He had responded to a complaint in a high crime area and got into an altercation with a suspect. During the altercation the suspect was able to take his pistol. The suspect then stood over him and pointed the pistol at him. He was able to utilize his bail out device. And his K-9 Princes then exited the unit and engaged the suspect. Retired Investigator and Sergeant Jay “Packy” Dempsey is our guest, he is a 25-year veteran of law enforcement and a 6-year Military Policeman in the Alabama Army National Guard. Over the course of his career, he served as a dual-purpose K-9 officer for more than 22 years, specializing in narcotics, criminal, and marine theft investigations. Rising through the ranks, he became a SWAT team commander and dedicated much of his life to protecting his community. Fatal Police Shooting Caught On A Camera He Bought. Dempsey's work has taken him into some of the toughest investigations, including murders, rapes, bank robberies, and stolen vehicles. With his cadaver dogs, he helped recover multiple bodies and located more than 80 stolen vessels and marine-related equipment. His expertise also extended into instructionserving as an FBI and NRA-certified firearms instructor, as well as an ASP, Mace, Taser, and NNDDA K-9 instructor. His outstanding service earned him recognition as a five-time Officer of the Year and recipient of the National Award for Bravery in the Line of Fire. Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast platforms. But beyond the accolades, Dempsey's story is one of survival, faith, and redemption. His book, The Fastest 4 Seconds, is a true account backed by eyewitness testimony, investigators, news articles, and even dashboard camera footage from the Dallas County Sheriff's Office in Selma, Alabama. It covers the events leading up to and following a shooting that unfolded in just four seconds after a one-minute struggle with a suspect. The book not only documents the incident and the investigation but also shines a light on the hidden battle that followed, undiagnosed PTSD, addictions, and the near collapse of everything he held dear. Through it all, Dempsey testifies to the undeniable hand of God working miracles in his life. Today, he shares his experiences with law enforcement academies and Christian men's groups, teaching the hard truth. Fatal Police Shooting Caught On A Camera He Bought. Jay “Packy” Dempsey always wanted to work in law enforcement. The only way to get in the door and start his law enforcement career was to volunteer. Working as a pulp mill helper at the local paper plant, Packy volunteered as a reserve deputy for the sheriff's department on his nights off. Packy saw that the sheriff's department did not have a K-9 unit, so after volunteering for two years, Packy bought a German shepherd puppy, named her Princess, and trained her to become a narcotics K-9. Eventually, Packy was hired by the sheriff's department to work at the jail. Over time, he worked his way to the narcotics division. However, as his career soared, his first marriage failed. His wife at the time had not signed up for the life of a police officer's wife. After getting his personal life back on track, Packy almost lost it all on a muggy December day when he answered a loitering complaint at former Craig Air Force Base on the outskirts of Selma. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website , Apple Podcasts , Spotify and most major podcast platforms. While trying to arrest one of the loitering teens for crack cocaine possession, the teen, overpowered Packy, taking his gun and pointing it at Packy's head. Using a special remote, Packy released Princess from the back of his patrol vehicle, and she came to his rescue. Princess distracted Walker long enough for Packy to draw his backup weapon and apply deadly force. The reporting and aftermath that ensued pitted the community against Packy as civil rights activists labeled Packy a murderer. Fortunately, he had the entire incident on film due to a dash camera that he bought and installed from his own personal budget. Eventually cleared him of any wrong doing, Packy returned to police work and eventually had to leave the Sheriff's Officer to have a successful career at the Orange Beach Police Department with Princess. The narrative ends in Orange Beach, Alabama where Princess retired and eventually succumbed to cancer at age 14. In the United States, police fatally shoot more than 1,100 people annually, with 1,270 people killed by police in 2024 alone, the highest number in a decade. The full podcast episode is streaming now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. On May 14, 2024, the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program released Officers Killed and Assaulted in the Line of Duty, 2023 Special Report and data from the Law Enforcement Employee Counts on the FBI's Crime Data Explorer. Officers Killed and Assaulted in the Line of Duty, 2023 Special Report, provides preliminary counts of law enforcement officers killed and assaulted in 2023, as well as an in-depth analysis of law enforcement officers who were killed or assaulted from 2014 through 2023, based on the data voluntarily provided by law enforcement agencies to the FBI's UCR Program. Fatal Police Shooting Caught On A Camera He Bought. The study of the data reveals, from 2021 to 2023, more officers were feloniously killed (194) than in any other consecutive three-year period in the past 20 years (73 officers in 2021, 61 officers in 2022, and 60 officers in 2023). Information about offenders of officer felonious killings in 2023 show there were 57 offenders, 54 were male, more than half were white, 8 were reported as having a mental illness, and there were 32 violent prior arrests/offenses from an unknown number of offenders. You can find the show on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn, as well as read companion articles and updates on Medium, Blogspot, YouTube, and even IMDB. From 2014 through 2023, the South region had the most line-of-duty deaths yearly compared to other regions. There was a 38% decrease in line-of-duty deaths in the region in 2023 (20 deaths) compared to 2022 (32 deaths). Last year marked the lowest number of line-of-duty deaths in the South since 2015 (19 deaths). While there has been a slow decline of officers feloniously killed in the line of duty over the past three years, a study of the data shows the rate of officers assaulted has increased each of the past three years. Agencies reported 79,091 officers were assaulted in 2023, marking the highest officer assault rate in the past 10 years. Most officer assaults occurred when responding to simple assaults against a non-officer (6,783 incidents), followed by drug/narcotic violations (4,879). The number of officers assaulted and injured by firearms has climbed over the years, reaching a 10-year high in 2023 with approximately 466 officers assaulted and injured by firearms. Fatal Police Shooting Caught On A Camera He Bought. Police shootings are a significant source of trauma that can lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other serious mental health consequences for involved officers, witnesses, and families. Law enforcement officers are exposed to an average of 178 critical incidents throughout their careers, compared to the general population's two to three traumatic events. A police shooting is considered a highly severe critical incident that can trigger "post-shooting trauma," a form of PTSD. Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast platforms. The studies reviewed suggest elevated rates of PTSD among those exposed to firearm violence, with particularly high levels of PTSD found among witnesses of mass shootings and firearm injury survivors. Additionally, these studies indicate that certain factors, such as closer proximity to the incident and closer relationship to the victims, increase one's risk for developing PTSD. Gaps in the current literature are discussed, as well as directions for future study. Firearm violence remains a significant public health concern, and identifying its impacts and potential risk factors such as PTSD will be crucial for interventions aimed at addressing this problem. He eventually left the Dallas County Alabama Sheriff's Office due to extreme pressure and joined the Orange Beach, Alabama Police Department, where he continued his career and eventually retired from. THE Sales Japan Series by Dale Carnegie Training Tokyo, Japan
If your buyer can swap you out without pain, you don't have a USP — you have a pricing problem. In crowded markets (including post-pandemic), the game is won by changing the battlefield from price to value and risk reduction for the client. This playbook reframes features into outcomes and positions your offer so a rational buyer can't treat you as interchangeable. Why do USPs matter more than ever in 2025? Because buyers default to "safe" and "cheap" unless you prove "different" and "better". As procurement tightens across Japan, the US, and Europe, incumbent vendors and new entrants flood categories, dragging deals into discount wars. Shift the conversation from line-items to business outcomes: time saved, revenue gained, risk removed. In Japan's consensus-driven buying, precedent and social proof are de-riskers; in the US, speed and ROI proof points get you shortlisted; in Europe, compliance and sustainability signals matter. Use comparative, sector-specific language (SMB vs. enterprise, B2B vs. consumer) so your value feels native to each buyer's reality. Do now: List 3 outcomes you deliver that a competitor cannot credibly claim, and make them the first 90 seconds of every sales conversation. Summary: Lead with outcomes and risk reduction, not features or price. How do you turn features into buyer-relevant outcomes? Translate specs into "jobs done" with timestamps and dollars attached. If you "sell training," your buyer actually wants higher per-rep revenue and lower ramp time; the workshop is just the tool. Frame cause-and-effect: "As of 2025, teams using our method cut onboarding by 30–60 days," or "post-implementation, win-rates rose 8–12% in enterprise accounts." Compare across contexts: startups prize speed-to-first-value; multinationals prize uniformity at scale. Anchor with entities to boost credibility: "Aligned to Dale Carnegie's behavioural change frameworks and Fortune 500 norms." Do now: For each feature, write: "So that the buyer can ___ by ___ date, measured by ___." Then delete the feature and keep the sentence. Summary: Convert every spec into a measurable, time-bound business result. What proof calms executive risk in consensus markets like Japan? Show durable track record and mainstream precedent, not hype. Tenure ("operating since 1912"), adoption ("serving a majority of Fortune 500"), and multi-market delivery ("100+ countries") signal you're not an experiment. Executives at firms like Toyota and Rakuten want to see that others have done due diligence and achieved consistent outcomes. Present proof as risk offsets: longevity = vendor stability; blue-chip logos = quality validation; global presence = repeatability across geographies and languages. In Europe, add references to ISO-aligned processes; in the US, reference board-level impacts and revenue KPIs. Do now: Build a one-page "Risk Reducers" sheet with 5 credibility markers and a 3-line narrative for each. Summary: Package track record as risk insurance for the buyer. How do you compete on instructor quality without sounding generic? Expose the standard, the filter, and the client-side benefit. "250 hours of train-the-trainer over ~18 months" is a rigorous filter; say what it fixes: variability. Many training vendors have star-and-struggle instructors; your certification process "cures" inconsistency, delivering predictable outcomes across cohorts and locations. Tie this to executive concerns: CFOs fear wasted spend; CHROs fear uneven adoption; Sales VPs fear lost quarters. As of 2025, quantify where possible (completion rates, manager NPS, behavioural transfer at 90 days) and compare to sector benchmarks. Do now: Turn your internal QA process into a 5-step visual the buyer can explain internally. Summary: Make your quality bar tangible and link it to reduced variance in outcomes. How do you avoid the price trap in late-stage negotiations? Re-anchor total value and introduce "switching cost of downgrade." When rivals discount, show the cost of failure: extended ramp, inconsistent delivery, and lost deals. Use a simple model: (Expected Revenue Uplift + Risk Reduction Value) − (Implementation & Change Costs). Add comparative caselets: "In APAC, an SME cut churn 3 points post-programme; in North America, a SaaS enterprise lifted ASP by 6%." Create a "good–better–best" offer that scales outcomes, not just hours. Do now: Bring a 1-page value calculator to every Stage-3 meeting; make the CFO your audience. Summary: Move from hourly rate to enterprise value and downgrade risk. How do you tailor USPs for global rollout without bloating the pitch? Modularise by region, role, and sector; keep a common spine. The spine: outcomes, risk reducers, delivery quality. The modules: language and cultural localisation (Japan vs. ASEAN vs. EMEA), regulatory anchors (EU GDPR, Japan's labour reforms), and sector examples (manufacturing vs. SaaS vs. consumer). Your global network isn't trivia; it's the operational proof that content lands locally — language, idiom, and facilitation calibrated to context. Keep sections tight: 3 bullets per role (CEO, CFO, HR, Sales). Do now: Build a 9-cell USP matrix (Region × Role × Sector) with one killer proof point per cell. Summary: One message, many modules — local relevance on a global chassis. What rehearsal builds salesperson muscle memory on USPs? Daily, 10-minute role plays that start with objections. Freshness decays; script drift is real. Start with the toughest objections ("We can swap you out," "Your competitor is 20% cheaper") and practise crisp, evidence-backed responses that land in under 30 seconds. Include a checklist: outcome first, proof second, risk reducer third, price last. Record, score, and iterate. By week two, rotate markets (Japan vs. US) and sectors to keep reps adaptive. Do now: Add a morning "USP stand-up": 2 reps, 2 objections, 2 minutes each, every day. Summary: Reps don't rise to your USPs — they fall to their practice. Conclusion Pricing fights are the path to oblivion. Position with outcomes, prove with precedent, operationalise with quality, regionalise with intent, and practise until it's muscle memory. That's how you make "different and better" undeniable — and un-swappable. FAQs What's the fastest way to sharpen a dull USP? Start with outcomes and risk, cut features, and add one killer proof point per market. Then rehearse daily. How many USPs should we show? Three is plenty: one outcome, one risk reducer, one delivery advantage — tailored by role and region. What if a rival undercuts price by 20%? Re-anchor to enterprise value and switching-cost of downgrade; offer modular "good–better–best." Quick actions for leaders Commission a 1-page "Risk Reducers" sheet with proof. Ship a value calculator for CFO-friendly re-anchoring. Launch a daily "USP stand-up" with objection drills. Strategic Technology Consultation Services This episode of The Modern .NET Show is supported, in part, by RJJ Software's Strategic Technology Consultation Services. If you're an SME (Small to Medium Enterprise) leader wondering why your technology investments aren't delivering, or you're facing critical decisions about AI, modernization, or team productivity, let's talk. Show Notes "And we talk about that contract. We say, "this is your contract. This Open API definition that you have is the contract for your service." And in the end, that's how customers interact with Azure is through APIs. And so it's important to have that contract so that customers know how things work, how to use them, hopefully how to use them easily, right?"— Mike Kistler Hey everyone, and welcome back to The Modern .NET Show; the premier .NET podcast, focusing entirely on the knowledge, tools, and frameworks that all .NET developers should have in their toolbox. I'm your host Jamie Taylor, bringing you conversations with the brightest minds in the .NET ecosystem. Today, we're joined by Mike Kistler to talk about two topics (we usually only tackle one topic per episode, so you're getting a bonus with this episode): Open API and both MCP and the MCP SDK for C#. We started our conversation by focussing on Open API, as this is a passion of Mike's. We talked about what it is, how you've likely already been using it with any ASP .NET Core WebAPIs that you've worked on, and how the latest versions of ASP .NET Core can generate a lot of the Open API specification for you without having to add lots and lots of metadata an attributes. Pro tip: If you've been using the Swagger UI in your applications, you've been using Open API. "And when the LLM decides that it wants to use an MCP tool or access an MCP resource, it doesn't go and do that directly. It comes back to the MCP host and asks the MCP host to call a tool with a particular set of parameters, or to access an MCP resource. And at first, when I saw this in the MCP architecture, I thought, "boy, that's clunky. Why not have the LLM just call these things directly?" And there's a deliberate reason why it was done this way."— Mike Kistler We then pivoted over to talking about MCP (or Model Context Protocol) which is a rapidly evolving standard for creating your own agents and applications which can communicate with or be instructed by, LLMs. We talked about how the MCP standard works, and how the standard is written in such a way that there's always a human in the loop. We also talked about how you can build your own MCP servers using the MCP SDK for C#. It's worth pointing out that both MCP and Open API are evolving standards. While Open API tends to evolve with a much more relaxed pace, the MCP standard (having not even reached a year old when we recorded) uses the date as it's version number. And Mike actually references the latest version of the MCP spec in our conversation, which will give you a clue as to when we recorded it. Hailing from the central coast of New South Wales, Australia, Ross Clarke-Jones joined the ASP world tour in 1986, at age 19. He was good in the small waves that the tour typically competed in at that time. But when the surf jacked up to 20-plus feet in the 1986 Billabong Pro at Waimea Bay, Clarke-Jones heaved himself over leadges and exited the water as one of the world's great big waves surfers—and has held that position ever since. He's been a major force in nearly every Eddie, winning that coveted event in 2001. He's paddled Jaws, towed Mavericks, Nazare, and Shipstern Bluff, and pioneered several mutant, way-out-to-sea slabs. He was the subject of the 2006 documentary titled The Sixth Element: The Ross Clarke Jones Story, narrated by the late Dennis Hopper. He and Tom Carroll starred in Storm Riders, a big-wave surfing reality show on the Discovery Channel, which led to Storm Riders 3D, a feature-length documentary. In this episode of Soundings, Clarke-Jones sits down with Jamie Brisick to talk about glory and catastrophe at Waimea Bay, manifestation, his lifelong relationship with Hawaii, racing sports cars, overcoming injury, maintaining motivation, dealing with fear, and the joys of small waves. Born in 1970, raised in Bondi Beach, Australia, Pauline Menczer found her way to the surfboard at age 14. Actually, it was half a surfboard—a snapped hand-me-down from her brother. Four years later she won the 1988 World Amateur Champs, hopped on the ASP world tour, and finished the year ranked fifth overall. Her surfing was loose, springy, full of hurled tail. She won lots of events, and, in 1993, the world title. Menzcer has appeared in many surf videos, including 1998's Blue Crush (the surf video, not the feature film), 2001's Peaches: The Core of Women's Surfing, and 2004's Surfabout: Down Under. She's the unofficial star of the 2021 documentary Girls Can't Surf. She released her memoir, Surf Like a Woman, in 2024. She was inducted into the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame in 2018. In this episode of Soundings, Menczer talks with Jamie Brisick about grommethood hazing in Bondi Beach, winning a world title, overcoming adversity, battling stereotypes, adjusting to life after pro surfing, and writing her memoir. If you're an SME (Small to Medium Enterprise) leader wondering why your technology investments aren't delivering, or you're facing critical decisions about AI, modernization, or team productivity, let's talk. Show Notes "I think, regardless of how technology evolves, it's very important and us the most important thing is for us to be decent and understanding of each other and to be willing to like work towards a common goal."— Safia Abdalla Hey everyone, and welcome back to The Modern .NET Show; the premier .NET podcast, focusing entirely on the knowledge, tools, and frameworks that all .NET developers should have in their toolbox. I'm your host Jamie Taylor, bringing you conversations with the brightest minds in the .NET ecosystem. Today, we're joined by Safia Abdalla. Safia is one of the engineers at Microsoft who works on ASP .NET Core, meaning that most of her work is in the open. We talk about Safia's journey in development, what it means to work entirely in the open, and what it's like to read through and triage issues on the ASP .NET Core repo. "I have certain people in my open source career who I have met and interacted with on a number of different projects, And the ones that stand out as great mentors and role models for me were people who were so good at creating psychological safety in open source spaces so that people could present their ideas. And they were really good at uplifting other people's ideas and pushing them further."— Safia Abdalla We also talk about the importance of interpersonal skills in modern software engineering (whether you're working in open source or not), psychological safety, and the importance of self-reflection in our day-to-day work. Earlier this year at the 2025 PCA Trade Show, Altadis unveiled a new ultra-premium cigar in their Montecristo line called M. What makes this special is a 20 year aged Ecuadorian Connecticut that is used for its wrapper. This special wrapper was acquired from David Perez of ASP in Nicaragua. The blend for the Montecristo M was developed by AJ Fernandez and Rafael Nodal using this wrapper at AJ's factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. Here is what Altadis had to say about the cigar: “Crafted by the legendary cigarmaker AJ Fernandez, the story of this smoke lies in a wrapper that has been carefully and beautifully aged for two decades. Aging a cigar's wrapper leaf, like a fine bourbon or wine, adds a tremendous amount of character and maturity to a smoke, heightening the tasting notes and taking the smoker on a journey far beyond what they have experienced from normal mass market offerings in the past. The Connecticut seed Ecuadorian leaf utilized for this project was cultivated and brought to life through the fifth-generation grower David Perez, resulting in a medium-bodied smoke that is uniquely proportioned to accentuate the subtle beauty of the wrapper.” Vitola: Toro Size: 6 x 52 Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut Binder: Nicaraguan Filler: Nicaraguan Country of Origin: Nicaragua Factory: Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua S.A. MSRP: $15.99 Final Score: 93
