Rudy Mendoza has been involved in the art world since the age of 8. Being well known by his piers in school, he was regarded as a great artist growing up in Scottsdale Arizona. Then in 8th grade, the students at Supai Middle School voted him best artist. Rudy was excited to inter the art world in High School, but felt disappointed when in his freshman year his art teacher was giving him C's and D's. So Rudy did not want to take art the following year. He was approached by; teacher, mentor, and now long time friend Janet Blum. She said that she was going to be the new art teacher at Coronado High School, and she had seen his work, and wanted Rudy to give her a chance to further develop his talents. For the next three years he studied art. Only for a short period from 1997- 2002, he would take a break from developing this craft. In 2002 he had an itch to do more with his art, so he did his first piece on canvas of a prison cell, which was set up on display at The Sanctuary, a local night club in downtown Scottsdale. He was in the 944 Magazine, and that sparked confidence to move forward in the art world. In 2003, he took business and business communications at Central Arizona College, and that's where he began making goals for his future, thus putting his goals on paper. In 2003, the vision for Ru Art began. The logo was drawn up and new ideas started; such as prints, a cloth line, and mural services, ect. The goal was to offer a total Ru Art business that reflects upon the art of Rudy Mendoza. In 2005, he did his first mural for Chris Millard, who is the pilot for Chip Foose and Joe Rogan, from Fear Factor. Also in 2005 he did an oil painting for Ron Whiteside, the 2003 Riddler Award Winner. His car, called 'The Stallion' is a 1932 Mercury, designed and built by the famous Chip Foose. In 2006, he was displayed at Exposed Art Gallery in Phoenix. Rudy continued his art and maintained a full time job until September 1st 2009, when he decided to develop Ru Art full time. One month later, he had the biggest mural job ever, at Bell Fords training center, which encompasses 167 ft. by 8ft. Shortly thereafter on November 3rd, just two month into business, Rudy was invited to speak at the Mayors breakfast in Scottsdale. Here, presented to the Mayor and City Council, he spoke on the importance of funds develop young talent, and the success it can offer to people in a variety of fields. Rudy stressed that ' fundingin this area, should not be cut'. By January 2010, Ru Art was a part of the main tent, at the 39th Annual Barrett Jackson, Collector Car Auction. Here, Ru Art supplied fine art on canvass, merchandise, window paintings, renderings and more to the collector car enthusiast. Now Ru Art can be seen at The Scottsdale International Auto Museum, where he has a giant mural, and his collection of oils on canvas, which has been seen and nationally televised when Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, and Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, held a fund raiser for fallen border patrol agent Brian Terry. Here in 2011, Rudy Mendoza is at a great start, at 33 years of age, its only gonna get better, so look for this up comming art star, and follow him on his website www.ruartonline.com, or on facebook, look for Ru Art. Encore release October 22, 2018. Encore release July 15, 2017. We look at the recent rash of legislation (either proposed or actually passed) in several states that try to protect anti-gay discrimination under the banner of religious freedom. Briefly, these broadly-worded bills require the state to show that there is a compelling state interest and no practical alternative when infringing on the religious freedom of citizens. That's all fine and dandy, but what it's really sets out to do is allow discrimination against homosexuals, among other things. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer just vetoed one such bill, arguing (correctly, but much to her chagrin, we are sure) that she could not find "one example in Arizona where a business owner’s religious liberty has been violated." Plus: (Another) snake-handling preacher dies handling a snake. Herbert and Catherine Schiable have just been sentenced to no more than seven years in prison for allowing their infant son to die of pneumonia without medical attention because they believed in the power of prayer. Even more outrageous is the fact that another son--two years old--died a few years ago under similar circumstances. Americans are stunningly ignorant of basic science facts. 26% of those surveyed said the sun orbits the earth, while 48% did not know (although we suspect they "know" but simply "deny") that humans developed from earlier species. If it's any consolation, Europeans didn't do much better in the same survey. We're excited about the upcoming revival of COSMOS, a continuation of Carl Sagan's classic documentary miniseries. The new COSMOS, hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson, premieres on FOX TV, Sunday, March 9th, 9pm Eastern. We're less excited about the new feature films Son of God (February 28th, nothing more than an edited version of the Jesusy episodes from the recent television miniseries The Bible) and Heaven Is for Real (April 16th, based on the "non-fiction" baloney-fest book in which preacher Todd Burpo claims his son Colton had a near-death experience and saw Jesus riding a rainbow pony). All is not lost at the cinema, however: Darren Aronofsky's Noah comes out March 28th, and it's already pissing off religious types because it promises NOT to be a straight-up Old Testament documentary. Happy Friday! This evening, Friday, September 11, 2015 my focus will be, as it should, on the fact that today is the 14th anniversary of the worst terror attack ever carried out on U.S. soil since the founding of our great nation. We will consider what our government has done and has not done to prevent future terror attacks. We will start by considering the contents of my recent analysis for the Summer Edition of The Social Contract that I gave the title, “The 9/11 Commission Report and Immigration: An Assessment, Fourteen Years after the Attacks.” The significance of this is made all the more pressing given the administration announced plans to admit tens of thousands of refugees from Syria as the power vacuum created by the administration's foreign policy decisions and draw down of our military are having in that part of the world that is now impacting the region, Israel and countries in Europe as well as the United States. Also, there is some good news to report. On September 8, 2015 FrontPage Magazine published my article, “Arizona's Immigration Law Survives- A just and commonsense court decision.” I worked with the law firm that Arizona Governor Jan Brewer retained to defend her, her state and the Arizona Immigration Law, SB 1070 against the lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice. A federal judge upheld the authority of police officers in Arizona from inquiring about the immigration status of suspected illegal aliens they encounter as a result of executing their lawful duties. To say Aisha and Danielle Moodie-Mills are busy would be like Jaison calling Michael Sams okay-looking. They're the founders of a a policy initiative called Fighting Injustice to Reach Equality (FIRE), have been named a "power couple to watch" by Black Enterprise and Politico, and were the first lesbian wedding ever profiled by Essence. Lucky for us all, they didn't stop there: They also host a talk show called Politini, which was recently picked up by theGriot. They joined us this week to tell us more about this latest venture, their background, and how they became such visible, powerful advocates. In our Juicy Fruit segment, we covered Arizona Governor Jan Brewer's veto of a bill that would've allowed businesses to refuse service to LGBTQ citizens, and former Miss Kentucky Djuan Trent's inspiring blog post in which she came out as queer. Trent said coming out publicly was necessary for her because it's not an identity people can see when meeting her: "I would find it rather odd if a man walked up to me and expected me to agree that I should be paid less than my male counterparts. I would be baffled if a white person walked up to me and expected me to agree to use a different water fountain than my white counterparts. I would be baffled with these approaches because it should be seemingly easy for one to look at me and see that I am woman, just as it is also pretty obvious that I am black. But sometimes, I forget to put the "QUEER" stamp on my forehead on my way out the door in the mornings. So, on the mornings that I forget my stamp, I have realized that there is really no way for people to know that I disagree with their views or, even moreso, to know that they are talking about me, unless I actually open my mouth and say it." And Jai also filled us in on a story that left us momentarily speechless: A pastor in Kenya is asking (female) members of his congregation to forgo wearing underwear while attending services, in order to be closer to God.
