It's the first episode without a direct comparison! It's also the first episode without an indirect comparison because there's nothing really going on with Codename Robotech other than me making fun of Carl Macek's bad commentary. So we're mostly just talking about the movie! Love it (Manny) or Hate it (Me) we can all agree that Hothead Henry is a better narrator the the normal guy. I hope you all appreciate the work that went into adding the bad commentary into this episode. I even went ahead and deleted like 300 of Macek's "uh's" so that the excerpt would be 2 minutes and not 40. What's that? You don't appreciate me making you listen to Carl Macek? Well, uh, okay. A little cringe there, audience. A little light for what the podcast is named after but hey look just listen to the GGP episode about the movie it's pretty good. Anyway please send your lists for the Ranking of Minmei to us at doyourememberrobotech@gmail.com! We desire your opinions! Here is the google doc with all the info again! We never really know when we're going to record but try to get it to us by 6/26 if you can. Daniel speaks to the Vice President of Marketting for Harmony Gold, Kevin McKeever about the 1985 hit anime series Robotech. Kevin covers the history of Robotech as well as that of Frank Aghrama and Carl Macek. Daniel and Kevin discuss the many products and projects that have been promised for years by Harmony Gold with Kevin welcoming fan question and criticism equally. It's an eye opening look into the world of ROBOTECH through the eyes of a a Marketting Executive. Many fans have reached a point of exhaustion with what they perceive as endless excuses and unfulfilled promises by Harmony Gold and they view Kevin as the front-man for a company that has not delivered on much of what it's promised. Kevin does a good job of covering his bases here and gives somewhat of a timeline for when things can be expected to happen. That said, this interview happened during the SAG-AFTRA strikes so there is some open-endedness to certain projects many of us have waited for news on.Put on your helmet, power up your Veritech, and get ready to kick Zendtraedi butt ... just make sure you have your radio tuned to our braodcast as we talk about ROBOTECH!Music:"Insurrection: by Alexza Vesa"A Hero of the 80's" by Grand Project"Heroic Motivational Rise" (Trailer) by Alex KisenkovSupport the show
"The expendable crew of a corporate space vessel must stop a murderous shape-shifting alien organism that somehow got on board." "The crew of a commercial spacecraft encounters a deadly lifeform after investigating an unknown transmission." One of those films is seminal horror film, Alien, and one of them is Japanese anime film, Lily C.A.T. Can you spot the difference? Since a discussion of one film is basically also a discussion of the other, this episode also touches a bit on the dubs vs. subs debate, including some discussion on the controversial character of Carl Macek and how he brought anime to the American mainstream in the 80s and 90s.
This time, Animation Scholar & Robo-technician, Ethan Halker (@Sundown_McMoon) joins Coop and Dylan to sample a spread of pivotal episodes from the Macross Saga of Robotech. The trio compare and contrast the approach of episodes 1, 27, and 36 in comparison to their source material while going deep into series' production history. Episode summaries start at 29:30 and party on dudes! Balancing nostalgia with an ever developing critical eye, the importance of women in the growth of anime as a medium, Ethan's passionate pitch for you to check out Robotech Remix, and insights on the influence of Carl Macek and his collaborators on animation as a whole come up in this beefy conversation. Yep, we’re back with a do-over episode. Many months ago, we produced an episode in which we were to talk about Carl Macek. Somehow, we went almost the entire episode without even so much as mentioning him; a fact which … Continue reading →
Kellen is back from his vacation, and he has some stories to tell. How does a giant comic convention like C2E2 fare if you are primarily an anime fan? How many ways can airlines and hotels almost screw over your vacation? And what kind of zaniness did Kellen get into with the Earth-2.net crew? The answers to all are within, as well as some short reviews of Carl Macek's Robotech Universe and Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker.

We discuss the legacy of the late Carl Macek.
Episode 8 is up and ready to be downloaded for the first time, for the last time! Hosts: Drew Sutton, Richard Hoelsher, Marc Smazik and Jason Brown. Speaking of staples of 1990s-anime-from-Blockuster-Video, we'd realized that we were skipping over probably the most famous of all - AKIRA (1988). Our roundtable discussion is more of story-time as Drew attempts to start a profile-in-fandom piece and talks about the man that fans love to hate, Carl Macek. Finally, we review another little OAV, Dragon Half (1993) that had captured a generation of fans, particularly AMV creators, with the phrase "What the fuck?!". No, seriously. What the fuck were we thinking of reviewing this?
On this show, I talked with the father of Robotech and arguably one of the grandparents of today's animé industry: the late Carl Macek himself. In the first three hours of the show, we covered Macek's career and the history of the various animated shows; in the last 80 minutes various fans asked various Robotech plot questions. This show's original posting was lost due to a TalkShoe glitch. Special thanks to Robotech fan Andrew Skelton for preserving it for posterity!
