'80s Movie Montage

In this episode, Anna and Derek discuss subtle Bill Murray vs. over-the-top Bill Murray, if it's okay to shave someone's head without first telling them and much more during their discussion of Ivan Reitman's Stripes (1981). Connect with '80s Movie Montage on Facebook, Bluesky or Instagram! It's the same handle for all three... @80smontagepod.Anna Keizer and Derek Dehanke are the co-hosts of ‘80s Movie Montage. The idea for the podcast came when they realized just how much they talk – a lot – when watching films from their favorite cinematic era. Their wedding theme was “a light nod to the ‘80s,” so there's that, too. Both hail from the Midwest but have called Los Angeles home for several years now. Anna is a writer who received her B.A. in Film/Video from Columbia College Chicago and M.A. in Film Studies from Chapman University. Her dark comedy short She Had It Coming was an Official Selection of 25 film festivals with several awards won for it among them. Derek is an attorney who also likes movies. It is a point of pride that most of their podcast episodes are longer than the movies they cover. We'd love to hear from you! Send us a text message.

Finally we review Any Given Sunday (1999).Wildcats is a 1986 American sports comedy film directed by Michael Ritchie and starring Goldie Hawn, James Keach and Swoosie Kurtz. It is the film debut of Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson.Draft Day is a 2014 American sports drama film directed by Ivan Reitman, and starring Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner. The premise revolves around the fictional general manager of the Cleveland Browns (Costner) deciding what to do after his team acquires the number one draft pick in the upcoming National Football League Draft. The film premiered in Los Angeles on April 7, 2014 and was released in the United States on April 11, 2014. It received mixed reviews from critics and was a box office failure grossing only $29 million against its $25 million budget. The film was Reitman's final directorial effort and Jim Brown's final acting role before their deaths in 2022 and 2023 respectively.Any Given Sunday is a 1999 American sports drama film directed by Oliver Stone depicting a fictional professional American football team. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz, Dennis Quaid, Jamie Foxx, James Woods, LL Cool J, Ann-Margret, Lauren Holly, Matthew Modine, John C. McGinley, Charlton Heston, Bill Bellamy, Lela Rochon, Aaron Eckhart, Elizabeth Berkley, and NFL players Jim Brown and Lawrence Taylor. It is partly based on the 1984 novel On Any Given Sunday by NFL defensive end Pat Toomay; the title is derived from a line in the book (also used in the film), that a team can win or lose on "any given Sunday", said by the fictitious coach Tony D'Amato. The quote was originally derived from a statement made in 1952 by then-NFL commissioner Bert Bell, about the league's devotion to financial and competitive parity.Cameo roles also feature many former American football players, including Dick Butkus, Y. A. Tittle, Pat Toomay, Warren Moon, Johnny Unitas, Ricky Watters, Emmitt Smith and Terrell Owens, as well as coach Barry Switzer.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Released in 1998 and directed by Ivan Reitman, this film stars Harrison Ford and Anne Heche in a story that mixes elements of action, romance, and survival.Six Days, Seven Nights sees Anne Heche as Robin Monroe, a New York City magazine editor, who ends up stranded on a deserted South Pacific island with Quinn Harris, played by Harrison Ford, a gruff cargo pilot. Their adventure begins unexpectedly when Robin hires Quinn to fly her to Tahiti, but a storm forces them to crash-land on a remote island.Initially, Robin and Quinn are anything but fond of each other. However, as they navigate the challenges of survival in a remote jungle, their antagonistic relationship evolves. Amidst dodging pirates and the elements, their initial disdain transforms into a budding romance, providing plenty of comedic and tender moments. At its core, Six Days, Seven Nights is about more than just physical survival; it's also about personal growth and finding love in unexpected places. Both main characters discover traits and strengths they didn't know they had, reflecting the movie's themes of resilience and adaptability. If you're in the mood for a film that doesn't take itself too seriously but provides entertainment with a scenic backdrop, charming leads, and a satisfying mix of romance and adventure, Six Days, Seven Nights is a great pick. It encapsulates the late '90s era of romantic comedies with a twist of adventure, making it a light-hearted film to revisit. So, buckle up and join us as we revisit this escapade in Six Days, Seven Nights, exploring how adversity can lead to unexpected companionship and how sometimes, getting lost means finding what you didn't know you were looking for.

What if 'Space Jam' was recast with another NBA star? While the rest of the crew are out enjoying summer, Cory and Nick go on their own trip down memory lane as they reminisce about the 1996 Looney Tunes classic. After shifting gears to reflect on the recent NBA Finals, the rise of the WNBA, they dive into the lasting influence of "Space Jam" on our culture, all while contemplating a creative challenge: reimagining the film without Michael Jordan (but no LeBron James this time).Peek behind the curtain as we explore the fascinating production details of "Space Jam." Discover Michael Jordan's initial hesitations about acting, the clever screenplay that blends his real-life journey with a fantastical narrative, and the disputed directorial credit between Joe Pitka and Ivan Reitman. We also contrast the original film with the sequel "Space Jam: A New Legacy" and delve into the technical marvels of merging live-action and animation, drawing comparisons to "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." Our discussion also covers the film's critical reception and the enduring magic it holds for our two 90s kids. Finally, Cory takes the film to 1989/90, for "pre-Jordan" version, while Nick takes it forward to 2021, to reimagine the movie in different eras. They brainstorm potential storylines and comedic gold of certain NBA stars teaming up with the Looney Tunes. We even dream up an updated soundtrack featuring artists of the times we're jumping to. Tune in for a lively blend of basketball nostalgia and movie magic, celebrating the timeless charm of "Space Jam" and envisioning its future.(00:01:00)Intro(00:09:38)About the Movie(00:20:49)Useless Critic Stats(00:38:28)Casting Rules(00:41:04) New Soundtrack? (00:44:34)Recasting Michael Jordan(00:55:46)Recasting Stan(00:59:42) Recasting Bill Murray (01:03:31) Discussing Lola and the Looney Tunes (01:06:36) Cory's Monstars - 1989 (01:13:58) Nick's Monstars - 2021 (01:17:50) How Does It End?? Thanks for listening; If you feel like supporting us, this is where you do that!Patreon (Just a buck to show your support!)BuyMeACoffee Check out or other content/socials here. Written by Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Rick Moranis, it told the story of some unusual scientists who make a paranormal discovery  that would transform New York into… You know what? You already know the plot. What really made this movie stand out was the comedy of Bill Murry, Dan Aykroyd, and all the other popular actors and comedians that filled the screen in every scene. It became the number one movie of the year, even beating out Indiana Jones!   But how could they ever follow up the success? The inevitable sequel came out 5 years later. When we find the boys this time, they are a little down on their luck. Luckily, an evil, possessed painting is going to put them back in business. Peter and Dana are no longer together and she even has a baby from a failed marriage. While this sequel didn't match the success of the first movie, it was still a fun romp with the dead and we got to see that humor again.    What's your opinion of the first two Ghostbusters films?
