Following in her predecessor Unit's footsteps, Ropponmatsu Unit 2 engages Ilpalazzo's newest bomb-delivery system, a mobile bomb, the T-10000 – in reality Excel disguised as a large panda bear to avoid attention and suspicion. Things look bad for little Unit 2, but fortunately Ropponmatsu Unit 1 returns in the nick of time.[Episode 16] Take Back Love!: This episode is a parody of the yuri genre. Due to a fatal programming error made by Gojo, the two Ropponmatsus fall in love with the ACROSS girls, leading to a robotic crime spree, a para-military showdown, and an indecent assault by Unit 2 on Excel. A slick martial arts film from Chile, Fist of the Condor (2023) is the fifth collaboration between director Espinoza and star Marko Zaror. Paying homage to both old school kung fu films, and shonen anime such as Fist of the North Star, Fist of the Condor delivers the expected thrills and feats of physicality that one would expect, however perhaps its most interesting aspect comes not in the form of action, but rather its structure and editing. Presented as a series of chapters, Fist of the Condor's episodic style, frequent cutaways, use of inner monologue, and frequent use of slow motion and time distortion, feel evocative of anime to a degree that is seldom seen in live-action film. Not the best collaboration between director Espinoza and star Zaror, nor the worst, Fist of the Condor is nevertheless, both stylish and compelling enough to warrant a watch, and will hopefully serve to draw more fans to Marko Zaror's body of work in the wake of his turn as Chidi in John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023). A pair of games based on popular media works? Well, almost. Action Fighter clearly draws its inspiration from 1970s James Bond and his transforming Lotus Esprit, but unlike James Bond 007 for Multivision, it doesn't wear the actual Bond license. It's a much better game, though. Drawing heavy inspiration from the likes of Spy Hunter and (gulp) Xevious, it turns out to be an unexpected highlight of the Master System's launch period. On the other hand, Black Belt did sport a media license... in Japan. Here in the U.S., however, Sega scrubbed all of those details clean. And I do mean "scrubbed"—rather than simply redrawing the main character's sprites, the developers gave every single component of this game a visual overhaul. It's really quite an impressive effort—and yet, the underlying work still shines through. And, because it plays as a convincing Kung Fu clone, you can understand why they went to the trouble rather than just skipping over localization and publishing some other game instead.
