Dragon Striker creators Sylvain Dos Santos and Charles Lefebvre join Nerdtropolis Mayor Sean Tajipour on Reel Insights to talk about Disney's new anime-inspired fantasy adventure series coming to Disney+ and Hulu. In this conversation, the creators break down the magical sports world of Dragon Striker, where farm boy Key discovers his powerful natural talent and learns he could be destined to become the legendary Dragon Striker.Dos Santos opens up about the sports anime and shonen influences behind the series, including Captain Tsubasa, Inazuma Eleven and Saint Seiya, and explains how the team wanted to make magic a real part of the game and the universe. Lefebvre also dives into the show's bold visual style, blending European fantasy, Japanese animation influences, video game inspiration, medieval design and modern streetwear. The conversation also explores the world-building behind Dragon Striker, from Kal Asterock and the show's magical energy called Tama to the hidden lore, background details, creatures, props, tapestries, crystals and two moons that fans should pay close attention to as the season unfolds.Dos Santos and Lefebvre also discuss the childhood cartoons, anime, movies and games that shaped their creative DNA, including Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Monster Hunter, Escaflowne, Secret of Mana and more. Plus, they reveal what made Dragon Striker such a unique challenge visually and why they wanted the world to feel alive beyond every frame.Visit Nerdtropolis.comFacebook.com/nerdtropolisInstagram.com/nerdtropolisTwitter.com/nerdtropolisTikTok.com/@nerdtropolis
Show Notes This week on MSB, Tokyo is threatened by a menace from the sea! No, not Godzilla. No, not the lost undersea Empire of Mu or a stolen high tech submarine. And no, it's not angels either. It's cyber zombie skeleton horses! But it's not all doom and gloom. Domon finds something he's been missing, Rain gets through a whole episode without being kidnapped, Urube and Dr. Mikamura get what they want from the government (whatever that is), Nina gets to meet a new fave, and Thom gets to talk about Escaflowne. Plus - what's the deal with that building, anyway? Ready? Go! Mobile Suit Breakdown is written, recorded, and produced within Lenapehoking, the ancestral and unceded homeland of the Lenape, or Delaware, people. Before European settlers forced them to move west, the Lenape lived in New York City, New Jersey, and portions of New York State, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Connecticut. Lenapehoking is still the homeland of the Lenape diaspora, which includes communities living in Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Ontario. You can learn more about Lenapehoking, the Lenape people, and ongoing efforts to honor the relationship between the land and indigenous peoples by visiting the websites of the Delaware Tribe and the Manhattan-based Lenape Center. Listeners in the Americas and Oceania can learn more about the indigenous people of your area at https://native-land.ca/. Season 2 Episode 10 - The Vision of Escaflowne: Baby's First Mecha-Isekai For this episode, Dan is hosting and is pulling out one of their favorites. Back in the day, Fox Kids aired a handful of fantastic anime. During this time Dan had inadvertantly watched and loved Escaflowne. This episode discusses all volumes (1-8) of The Vision of Escaflowne by Katsu AkiThe Vision of Escalfowne is the anime that got Shojo and Tell host Ashley into anime. It sparked one of only a handful of great obsessions in Ashley's life. It's probably the reason this podcast exists at all.Katsu Aki's shonen manga version of the story is..... not like the anime you know and love. It's explicitly billed as a shonen series, and it's all downhill from there. Instead of being a badass track and field star with short hair who saves Van and Allen more times than anyone in the series bothers to count, Hitomi is now a busty babe with glasses who's necessary to pilot the giant mech, Escaflowne. Prince Van is an annoying uncouth and unskilled swordsman. Sir Allen is a knight who is nothingness. Dilandau is — well okay, Dilandau is still a pretty crazy delight, honestly. But a different kind of crazy delight. The Ashes discuss what this iteration of ESCAFLOWNE has to offer in comparison to the beloved TV anime and the gritty movie adaptation of the series.REFERENCESUnfortunately (fortunately?), this manga is out of print. This week we revisit the world of Gaea, but this time it was a vastly different world. The story was also vastly different but in our opinion, it was also a far better story. If you are looking for a direct comparison to the series then you are not going to find it. The similarities were few but the story of growth and struggle where still there. You can tell that they took the time and cared about this one.Next week's choice is Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar. Have you seen next week's choice or one of the previous ones? This week it is just Jack and what a show it was for a solo episode. The show was unique for it being an original and they made it certainly feel that way. The music was certainly from the 90s and the animation felt that way. But it was certainly worth the watch if you have not seen it.Next week's choice is Beast Tamer. Have you seen next week's choice or one of the previous ones? Let us know what you thought of it or recommend what we should watch next!Do you have a show you want us to watch? We review this week's choice and it was quite the adventure. Jack didn't really care for it but Rick liked it and it was a good show for him. The story is all about trying to save the world which they are trying but they just are not what it needs. The characters were cookie-cutter-ish. It is a short one and it was easy to get through. The music was one thing we both agreed on and the soundtrack is solid.Next week, we're watching The Vision of Escaflowne, a classic mecha anime about a high school girl who is transported to a fantasy world and teams up with a prince to fight against an evil empire.Have you seen it? What did you think? If you haven't seen it, or if you're looking for other recommendations, let us know. One year after Catnapped CAPTURED our hearts, another anime was dropped into the hell pit know as “The Fox Box”, and this one was… actually one that me and my childhood best friend and life long anime companion Nick never saw. Due to an unfortunate time slot, we were already outside and running around the forest with water guns by the time those SWEET Casio tunes would kick off the show's intro. So sit back and enjoy the show, as me and my best friend talk about this anime!Special Thanks to Chris Degl (https://twitter.com/DEGL_TOONS) for recommending this classic!Music composed by the excellent Pirates of the High Frequencies: https://phftapes.bandcamp.com

Episode 117 of Key Frames, a podcast about anime. Well, now that Ben has watched Vision of Escaflowne and Magic Knight Rayearth, he's decided that he likes isekai anime, so in this episode he joins Duncan to dive into the development of the genre. What nuggets of wisdom will they unearth from the distant eighties and nineties? Will Ben discover that he is actually able to appreciate The Twelve Kingdoms now? Will Duncan be able to thread the needle of InuYasha being isekai? Ben certainly tries to do that when they talk later about Aria, the "other world" in question of course being Mars. Check it all out for yourself! The post 117 - Undine Monthly first appeared on Key Frames.

Both agree this short film is pretty much flawless and we need more of it (particularly more Droids taking a coffee break!). We get some great additions to Lightsaber lore in this film, and we see several anime tropes turned on their heads.
