In this episode I invite an inspiration and proud sister of mine, Carly Bergman. Throughout this episode we share a conscious conversation on the process of healing, finding peace in the cocoon phase, and through trauma/hurt/& heaviness being reborn into the butterfly you were always meant to be. We discuss the sacred dance of balance...the swinging pendulum...how we can begin to honor both the yin and the yang...and shift our lense of perception to see change as an opportunity to evolve. Carly & I both dive into the potency of story telling and share stories of spirit guides that have crossed our journeys in many different forms and gifted us divine messages. I am incredibly honored to hold space for women like us to speak our Truth...enjoy. The Hippie Haven Podcast is hosted by Callee - a zero waste activist & business owner. Formerly a translator for the US Navy, Callee was honorably discharged as a conscientious objector in 2017 following an episode of severe depression & alcoholism fueled by not living in alignment with her core values. That same year, at age 23, she started Bestowed Essentials, a handmade line of eco-friendly beauty & home products that are now stocked in over 100 stores around the US & Canada. Callee began hosting this free podcast in August 2018, as well as speaking at events and teaching educational workshops across the country, as part of her life mission to arm you with the knowledge & tools you need to spark positive change in your community. In December 2019, she opened The Hippie Haven in Rapid City, South Dakota - a zero waste retail store & community space with a little free library - the first of its kind in the state. She’ll be opening a second Hippie Haven in Salem, Oregon in Feb 2021. Welcome to episode 9 of ‘Happiness from Within’. In today’s episode I talk to Carly Bergman, a vegan and zero waste advocate who has placed sustainability at the heart of her beliefs. Together with her boyfriend Brendan she founded Sustainable Duo, a company that makes sustainability trendy and helps people connect and take care of the Earth. Key takeaways: The real duo is the relationship between you and the planet Things can be trendy and sustainable Sustainability is about being resourceful You can create a beautiful wedding that does no harm to the planet Just because something is vegan does not mean it’s healthy Communication is the key to working together as a couple Carly discovered the world of veganism and sustainability when she started working for a raw vegan juice bar at the age of 16. All the different insights she gained from her coworkers influenced her immensely and she decided to pursue a degree in permaculture and create sustainable and ‘smart’ gardens. After meeting her boyfriend Brendan at a vegan festival, the couple founded their first company Sustainable Duo Zero Waste, which makes turns items into sustainable products but with a trendy and fashionable feel to it. Examples include sustainable, cutlery, straws and other items which are usually plastic. Their mission is to connect people back with Earth, and this means first taking care of our planet. The couple then founded a second company called Plant Protein which produces holistic protein bars which are not only vegan, but also sustainable. Their products are now used by well-known athletes, actors and celebrities such as Wilson Chandler. As a couple working together on improving the sustainability of our planet, their work inspires others to do the same, including friends and family. But thanks to social media, their message is able to reach a huge audience, which in turn encourages others to take action on their lives. In this amazing journey of sustainability, they not only have learnt the process of positivity from within, but also a way to make a huge impact on people and the planet. The wait is over! Part 2 of my conversation with Aussie babe Gabi Goddard is HERE!!! During this interview with Gabi, I kept saying, “I'm sorry I'm keeping you so long!” but then we just kept talking. SO MUCH FUN! If this gal wasn't across oceans from me, I'd be asking her to hang out all the time. I'm pretty sure you'll feel the same way after listening to her speak. If you haven't listened to Part 1 yet, do yourself a favor and go listen to that first! You'll find us hilarious either way I'm pretty sure, but you'll follow along much easier if you listen in the correct order. To view the full show notes, continue reading here or visit my website: www.heartfelthippie.com Part 1 was mostly devoted to Gabi explaining what fast fashion is and why it is such an issue. In part 2, we're focusing on how we can be a part of the solution! Gabi shares a lot of great (and easy peasy) tips for being a more ethical consumer - shopping secondhand, finding out what brands are ethical and what ones are not, rewearing your wardrobe and getting out of consumeristic cycles, so on and so forth. Gabi is honest about her struggles when it comes to wanting to buy, buy, buy, and I can compleeeeetely relate. Becoming a conscious consumer is a process, but there are so many tools to help you do it! I'm particularly excited about the app that Gabi recommends - link for that is below! Once again, Gabi has so many good thoughts to share. This was also probably the longest amount of time I've spent in an interview chatting about products that we're loving. I could've cut some of it out to make this episode shorter, but I chose not to and you'll hear why. If nothing else, make sure you follow Gabi on the ‘gram after listening to this convo - her style and her words will influence you like they have me. Let's put an end this armor of willful ignorance we've been trying to protect ourselves with and start making an impact for the better through our fashion choices!
