Christa Watson is passionate about all things that have to do with domestic machine quilting.  She is an award-winning quilter, pattern designer, author, and digital educator!  After the interview I remembered I should have asked Christa about the sewing cabinet that she co-designed with Arrow.  I've seen it demonstrated and it looks fabulous.  Then a little later I received an email from her and she shared that her Colorful Chaos quilt that we talked about was juried into the quilt show in Paducah.  I'm so happy for her!  So if you're able to get to that show make sure to look for it. Here's Christa's Colorful Chaos quilt I had the privilege to meet Christa in person at QuiltCon 2024 Connect with Christa Website: Christa Quilts Facebook: Christa Watson Instagram: christaquilts Pinterest: Christa Quilts YouTube: Christa Quilts       Don't forget to subscribe to her YouTube channel

She also talks about an interesting challenge this year's event faced.Chawne Kimber, this year's keynote speaker and renowned activist/artist talks about her experience at this year's event.Black Women Sewist had a prominent voice, and they shared their perspectives on the progress that's been made – and what's still left to be accomplished. She also acknowledges volunteers.Lisa Woolfork talks about community and safety, the genesis of Black Women Stitch, and sewing on Amtrack on her way to QuiltCon.Peggy Martin, President of the Brown Sugar Stitchers shares the story about this group's founding and how this group got its name.Next, meet Uzoma Samuel, a first-time quilter from Nigeria. At QuiltCon we talked with Becky Glasby from the National Quilt Museum (Episode 24) and Marisa Marquez from Brewer (Episode 26). Becky shares updates from the Museum and what we can expect coming up this year and Marisa tells us what she's been up to since her episode. And…oh the shopping! One thing that everyone loves at QuiltCon is the selection of vendors – listen as we learn about Sew Creative Lounge, String and Story, and Moda/United Notions. Louise Duffy from BERNINA exudes the energy of this event and talks about the Georgia stores she works with. The days were full…and long. The mood is upbeat…inclusive, realistic, and hopeful. It was all about much more than quilting and sewing. It was about the interwoven stories of those who quilt and sew and the effects they have and will have on each other. It was about yesterday, today, and the promise of a better tomorrow. It was about community. And it's this community that makes sewing and quilting so very much more. This was QuiltCon 2023. Thanks to all who shared their stories with us for this special episode of Sew & So!If you know someone who has an outstanding story that should be shared on this podcast, drop Meg a note to Meg@sewandsopodcast.com or complete the form on our website.

Most people conceptualize dyslexia as an intellectual disorder, but that simply isn't the case. Although dyslexia is a struggle with reading, reading isn't all there is to our intelligence, just one component of our neurological profile. And as with most things in the brain, if one area is less reactive, chances are other areas are even more reactive. This week, we explore research into the emotional world of children with dyslexia with Drs. Virginia Sturm and Christa Watson, co-authors of a new paper examining how children with dyslexia process emotional stimuli and what this might mean socially for them. The findings might just surprise you. [caption id="attachment_334" align="aligncenter" width="1200"] Christa Watson works with a student during her free motion quilting class at Quilt Addicts Anonymous headquarters in Rock Island, IL.[/caption] Christa Watson, Quilting Triple Threat Christa Watson has pretty much done it all in the quilting world. She’s written three books. She’s an expert in machine quilting and a talented pattern designer. She’s also a fabulous teacher, which the Quad-Cities quilting community found out first hand this past weekend. And now, she has added fabric designer to the list. Last month Christa released her first fabric line, Modern Marks, through Benartex. In our interview, Christa and I chat about how she got started on her first fabric collection and the process to bring it to quilt shops near you. We also chat about her third book, “Piece and Quilt with Precuts.” The book includes 11 projects, all made from precuts, that come with patterns to make the quilt tops as well as step-by-step instructions and diagrams to quilt them. Christa also gives some of her top tips for machine quilting. No. 1? Practice, practice, practice. Click here to check out all of Christa’s patterns, books and fabric at shop.quiltaddictsanonymous.com. And learn more about Christa at christaquilts.com. And check out her Craftsy class, Start Up Library: Quilting and The Quilter's Path. Tiffany Jawor-Smith, Ink & Arrow Marketing Brand Manager We’re getting a behind the scenes look at what it takes to bring fabric to market with Tiffany Jawor-Smith. Tiffany oversees the marketing and creative efforts at Ink & Arrow, which is the modern division of Quilting Treasures, now known as QT Fabrics. I met Tiffany when she reached out to me about collaborating on some quilt patterns using Ink & Arrow fabrics. I have loved working with Tiffany and the Ink & Arrow team. So you can thank Tiffany for providing me the inspiration for our latest pattern, Medallion Star. Tiffany worked as a fabric designer before moving into the marketing department. We talk about how that experience helps her do a better job getting Ink & Arrow fabrics out to the world and the company’s philosophy on how there are no rules, “Because fabric should be fun.” Click here to shop Ink & Arrow Fabric and get a limited edition Medallion Star quilt kit using Ink & Arrow Fabric at shop.quiltaddictsanonymous.com. Hello My Quilting Friends

I’m super excited to share a recording from 2016 quilt market with you today. I teamed up with Christa Watson from Christaquilts.com and Stephanie Palmer from QuiltingPlanner.com to talk about writing and publishing books for quilters. Now I’ve known Christa for a few years and we met online first and collaborated a bit. I remember Christa emailing me for help on a few magazine articles she was writing, then we met in person at a spring quilt market a few years ago and really hit it off. And Christa has launched her quilting business into the big time in the last few years. She’s written two books, and is working on her third, she sells precuts in The Precut Store on Amazon, and I believe she has a Craftsy class in the works as well so definitely lots of stuff going on for Christa. Christa actually introduced me to Stephanie Palmer just before quilt market and again, this was just such a serendipitous moment where we could have done the schoolhouse presentation with just the two of us, but adding Stephanie was just perfect because she added a totally different perspective of publishing to the mix. She has created The Quilting Planner which is in i’s second year and she gave me a copy and I honestly don’t think I’ll ever be able to live without them from now on! It’s far more than just a date book – it has graph paper and space to plan quilts and it includes some quilting projects too so I think all quilters should have. So this was a live interview at fall Quilt Market 2016 which is basically an industry trade show. This is where manufacturers and business owners meet with quilt shop owners, designers show off their new lines of fabric, and where a lot of networking and learning goes on every year. My inspiration for creating this schoolhouse presentation was to share my love of writing and self publishing with more quilters. There are a lot of choices and a lot of ways to publish your books these days and I hope it will inspire you to think outside the box with your quilting books.
