Double Down Michigan: A Podcast by the Michigan Gaming Control Board
In this episode of Double Down Michigan, Executive Director Henry Williams sits down with Keesha Garrett, the Michigan Gaming Control Board's Communications Manager, for a wide-ranging conversation about what it really takes to elevate the voice of a state regulatory agency. Keesha's work at the MGCB goes far beyond press releases and social media. As the agency's Communications Manager and Language Access Coordinator, she ensures that Michigan's diverse communities — regardless of the language they speak — can access and understand the agency's work. And as People and Culture Manager, she works to build a workplace where staff feel valued, supported, and connected with a shared purpose.Together, Henry and Keesha explore how all these roles intersect — and why strong communication is at the heart of everything the MGCB does. Whether you're a Michigan resident curious about how your state's gaming industry is regulated, a gaming industry professional, or simply someone who believes that good government starts with clear and inclusive communication, this episode is for you. Episode #212 of the PricePlow Podcast covers tactical nutrition from two perspectives that rarely share a microphone: the soldier who tested an ingredient in active combat and the scientist who helped commercialize it. Retired Green Beret Chris Lobb, who served nearly 13 years in the Army with a decade in special operations (including five years with the 10th Special Forces Group), joins PLT Health Solutions Director of Sports and Active Nutrition Brett Bernier to explore what performance supplementation actually looks like under operational conditions. The episode’s anchor is Chris’s firsthand account of testing unlabeled CellFlo6® capsules in Afghanistan in 2019, five years before PLT’s commercial partnership with the ingredient launched. The conversation covers sustained energy management without crashes, caffeine optimization through zümXR®, adaptogen stacking with ingredients like Rhodiolife®, and delivery format innovation (gummies, lozenges, dissolvable strips) suited for environments where water is scarce and silence is mandatory. Brett brings relevant credibility of his own: four years in the Marine Corps as a scout swimmer and assault climber, followed by 16 years in dietary supplements. Welcome back to the podcast, I'm Jamie Baynes. This episode's guest is Jenna Crockett, a former volunteer firefighter, former Richmond Ambulance EMT, former Richmond police dispatcher, former.,.,,I could go on, but Jenna currently is a nurse practitioner, wife, and mother. And she did NOT like it when I cut the interview short due to time constraints! But she's a fabulous person and makes me laugh. So, here she is. I hope you enjoy the episode. After you listen, let me know if you heard the surprise (anger) in her voice when I brought the episode to a close. I made sure to reassure her that I was going to have her back on for additional episodes and that she could finish her story and tell me more. My only caveat was that she had to give me a hard time for cutting her short. Not surprisingly, she readily agreed. So stay tuned for future Jenna episodes. And as always, thanks for listening.

We joke about founders wearing many hats, but that metaphor misses the point. It's not about swapping accessories—it's about growing entirely new heads, each with its own brain that thinks, speaks, and prioritizes differently. In this episode, I explore why the transition from consulting or agency work to software entrepreneurship is so disorienting, and why the instincts that made you successful before might be the exact things preventing success now. From the uncomfortable truth about acquisition in low-touch SaaS to the cognitive dissonance of believing in yourself while questioning everything you know, this is about what it really takes to become someone new while staying grounded in who you've always been. This episode of The Bootstraped Founder is sponsored by Paddle.comThe blog post: https://thebootstrappedfounder.com/many-heads-not-many-hats-the-founders-identity-crisis/ The podcast episode: https://tbf.fm/episodes/many-heads-not-many-hats-the-founders-identity-crisisCheck out Podscan, the Podcast database that transcribes every podcast episode out there minutes after it gets released: https://podscan.fmSend me a voicemail on Podline: https://podline.fm/arvidYou'll find my weekly article on my blog: https://thebootstrappedfounder.comPodcast: https://thebootstrappedfounder.com/podcastNewsletter: https://thebootstrappedfounder.com/newsletterMy book Zero to Sold: https://zerotosold.com/My book The Embedded Entrepreneur: https://embeddedentrepreneur.com/My course Find Your Following: https://findyourfollowing.comHere are a few tools I use. A true believer in taking the road less traveled, Shang sits down with Onney the CEO (@onneytheceo) for an open and transparent conversation about his journey. At just 13 years old, Shang's life took a major turn when his mother sent him from the Washington D.C. area to Texas to live with his father — a man he had only known through phone calls. Inspired by Trayvon Martin and George Floyd, Shang helped found the Black Rebel Brigade, a community dedicated to “policing the police” and empowering others through education and self-defense. In this engaging episode of "It's the Bottom Line That Matters," hosts Jennifer Glass, Daniel McCraine and Patricia Reszetylo are in for an honest exploration into what they call the “CEO ID crisis”—the struggle of business owners who find themselves constantly switching hats and drowning in operational tasks. The conversation kicks off with a playful inquiry about how many metaphorical hats each person is wearing at the moment, quickly revealing a common pain point among entrepreneurs: doing too much, often out of necessity. Patricia candidly shares her frustration at being stuck in the “worker bee” role instead of focusing on high-level strategy, and Daniel admits how easy it is to slip between CEO, consultant, project manager, and even accounts payable, sometimes all within a single hour. The trio delves into real-world examples of what it means to balance resources and responsibilities. Jennifer recounts her own experiences of taking on nearly every job in a startup, emphasizing that just because you can do everything doesn't mean you should. They dig into the nitty-gritty of delegation, with Jennifer giving her rule of thumb on outsourcing tasks that take more than five minutes, while both Daniel and Patricia reflect on when and how to train others to step up. Daniel shares his recent journey in hiring an assistant for a complex, risk-laden area of his business, recognizing the up-front investment in training will pay off as he gradually steps out of the weeds. Patricia expresses both the challenges and motivational shifts she's felt during these growing pains, noting the impact of outsourcing on both efficiency and peace of mind.Throughout the episode, the hosts debate the fine line between staying connected to mission-critical areas—like finance, sales, and marketing—and learning when to let go and trust others, even to the point of letting them evolve the company beyond the founder's original vision. They cite lessons from their own mentors and programs like Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, stressing that a true CEO must understand the numbers, keep their eye on key metrics, and ultimately operate as the strategic guide rather than chief everything officer. The show wraps up with actionable insights for entrepreneurs: identify the roles only you can fulfill, let go of the rest, and stay vigilant to avoid burning out or stalling your company's growth. Listeners are left with a motivational nudge to shed a few hats, step fully into leadership, and focus on the bottom line that really matters.KEYWORDS:small business owners, wearing many hats, business delegation, outsourcing tasks, working on the business, working in the business, CEO responsibilities, founder vs CEO, business strategy, supervisory roles, bookkeeping, accounting, social media management, virtual assistants, project management, staff training, business growth, financial management, business operations, time management, business mentorship, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Program, business vision, executive decision making, distraction management, work-life balance, role delegation, business scaling, marketing supervision, sales oversightSpeaker Bios: Jennifer Glass, Daniel McCraine, and Patricia Reszetylo are dynamic business strategists, each with real-world experience growing companies and coaching entrepreneurs through their toughest challenges. Beyond the spreadsheets, Ivan opens up about the shift from operator to venture partner, the value of helping founders avoid his past mistakes, and what makes an offsite actually work.—LINKS:Ivan Makarov on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ivansmakarov/Andreessen Horowitz: https://a16z.com/CJ on X (@cjgustafson222): https://x.com/cjgustafson222Mostly metrics: https://www.mostlymetrics.comRELATED EPISODES:Webflow's VP Finance Ivan Makarov on Understanding Startup Equity:Portfolio Operations: This Is What You Actually Have To Do To Make Sure a Company Is Successful:Brex COO/CFO Michael Tannenbaum on Taking Risks996 Culture, Exploding AI Bills & SaaS Chaos—TIMESTAMPS:(00:00:00) Preview, Intro(00:01:18) Meet Ivan Makarov of Andreessen Horowitz & Episode Setup(00:02:39) Sponsor – Tipalti | Aleph | Rillet(00:06:51) From Webflow to Andreessen: Becoming an Operating Partner(00:09:19) When and Why Founders Hire Their First Finance Leader(00:12:52) Hiring Early in Complex or Regulated Industries(00:13:58) The First Finance Hire in 2025 vs. 2015(00:15:46) Sponsor – Fidelity Private Shares | Mercury | RightRev(00:19:02) The Many Hats of Finance Leaders & The Rise of RevOps(00:24:55) What Founders Look For: Startup DNA and Work Ethic(00:26:05) Grind Culture, Return to Office, and New Expectations(00:28:20) From BizOps to RevOps: How Finance Roles Are Evolving(00:31:57) The First 12 Months of a Finance Leader's Playbook(00:35:05) Choosing Audit Partners and Avoiding Hidden Costs(00:36:32) Why Startups Really Fail — Running Out of Cash(00:39:16) Cash Controls, Banking Diversification, and Fraud Prevention(00:43:48) Fundraising Red Flags: Metrics, Definitions, and Diligence(00:47:50) 409A Valuations, Equity Clarity & Candidate Questions(00:50:09) The Modern Finance Tech Stack & Gen 3 Tools(00:55:05) AI's Impact: Replacing Labor, Not People(01:00:00) Offsites, Team Building & The Future of Finance Leadership(01:02:28) Wrapping Up: Reflections, Gratitude & Closing Credits—SPONSORS:Tipalti automates the entire payables process—from onboarding suppliers to executing global payouts—helping finance teams save time, eliminate costly errors, and scale confidently across 200+ countries and 120 currencies. Send us a textRey Roldan stops by the podcast to talk about being Britney's Publicist, Interviewing Kurt Cobain, an interesting encounter with Bono, Fandom, and so much more.********Rey has seen a lot… and I mean A LOT. Twenty-six plus years as a publicist (since 1995) and a few years before that as a nationally published entertainment journalist, he's been around. Backstage, on the tour bus, in the hotel rooms, behind closed doors, in the conference room… he's witnessed almost all… but there's undoubtedly more that he hasn't seen. But it hasn't shocked him. In fact, it's intrigued him… challenged him… and at times, offered myriad choices of how to react and how to process. And that's the thing… nothing shocks him. Starting his journey into the lion's den that is the music industry, he was a journalist for a number of newspapers, magazines, and regionals across the country (and one or two overseas). He's interviewed Kurt Cobain, U2, Joey Ramone, Sinead O'Connor, Bjork, Polly Jean Harvey… oh, and Vanilla Ice… While journalism was his passion, it didn't quite pay the bills, especially in Boston. So he moved to NYC and jumped into Publicity. IRS Records, Mammoth Records, Grass Records, Jive/Silvertone/Zomba, KSA Publicity/Press Here, Island Def Jam… He worked with Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Hanson, Duran Duran, Sting, Brooks & Dunn, O Brother Where Are Thou?, Juliana Hatfield, Diana Ross, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Dresden Dolls, Charlotte Church, among hundreds of others. He did the label (indie and major) and indie PR thing but he was burnt out on doing publicity like a pre-defined template that labels determined, so he left the corporate world to start his own shingle with a focus on building profiles and strategies that weren't constrained by hard, constrained blueprints. In 2004, Reybee Inc. was born. Instead of sticking to templates, he and his team of professionals craft unique strategies to build solid foundations and build up from there, creating campaigns that focus on constructing artist careers that go beyond. His campaigns go forward and sideways, and rarely backwards (unless, of course, we're talking retrospectives, which, in that case, they go backwards too).Nearly two decades later, it's still going strong… in fact, it keeps growing… and growing… and growing. Discouragement and Deception. Two of the most effective tools of the wicked one.Discouragement is especially effective, because it can arise from within and can take hold of us from any one of a variety of sources. And deception has been the enemy's weapon from the very beginning, in Genesis 3.To combat both discouragement and deception, we require that our minds be protected - that we have the very mind of Christ. And for that, we need today's portion of the armor of God, the helmet of salvation. For protection from discouragement and deception, turn to Ephesians 6:17 for today's installment of Rinse and Repeat!(RAR2025EP08)
