The 2023 Anaheim 2 Supercross is in the books and the Triple Crown format certainly shook things up in both the 250SX West and 450SX classes. Presented by Bell Helmets Colt Nichols has been putting in tons of work aboard his new Honda HRC CRF450R since signing with the team a couple of months ago, and according to those who have seen him in action, the former 250 Supercross Champion is looking quite comfortable aboard his new red dragon. Nichols has always been a personable, easily approachable personality in the pits, so we thought he'd be a great candidate for the inaugural House of Bell Podcast, presented by Bell Helmets. Listen in for some candid information and news from the Oklahoma native.
In this episode of the Motocross Action podcast, Trevor Nelson interviews factory HRC Honda riders Chase Sexton, Colt Nichols, Jett Lawrence and Chance Hymas. Each rider talks about their unique situation as they prepare for the 2023 season.
Colt Nichols might have experienced more highs and lows than anyone in the game right now. Coming off last year's 250SX East Supercross Championship, he never even scored a point in 2022, crashing out of his Anaheim 1 heat race while running in 250SX West. The injuries were bad, and Colt never made it back to a race. Then came more pain: an injury clause meant he wasn't getting paid, then he asked to get out of his Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing contract early so he could get a head start with a new 450 team. Then that team closed. Then he tried to rush together an effort to race FIM World Supercross. He was running out of time and that wasn't working as he had hoped. Then, when it seemed like everything was going wrong, something went right: after parting with Ken Roczen, Honda had a 450 opening in supercross. Just like that, Nichols got a supercross deal with a highly coveted factory squad. Now he's betting on himself for 2023, looking to make an impact in his rookie 450 season. Jason Weigandt rings up Colt to learn the details, including the injury timeline, pay, home sales, training, prep, and so much more. The Racer X Exhaust podcast is presented by Yoshimura and Leatt.

Le podcast dure 58 minutes. Ni plus ni moins.
If you've been following along this offseason, then you've heard about the moves made by riders and mechanics in the pit area. We cannot remember a time for mechanics as hectic as this one because, in addition to the usual moves from one rig to the next, a handful of guys have decided to leave their positions entirely.Matt Winters is one of the few that decided to call time on his wrenching career. Paired with Colt Nichols at Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha in 2021, the duo scored three Main Events wins, finished on the podium in every race, and claimed the 250 East Coast Region title, a career-first championship for both the racer and mechanic. It was a massive moment for Winters, a Maryland native who had worked for three high-profile teams. During our call, Winters went over almost everything that happened during the past decade, like his early aspirations shadowing local tuner Shane Sneft, how he became Cooper Webb's legal guardian, what it was like to build a bike from scratch at Red Bull KTM, the chassis changes he and Shane McElrath made to a Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM, and how he returned to Star Racing for a second stint. So, given all that success, what would make a guy want to stop? Matt was very forthcoming in his reasons and said that finally accomplishing a lifelong dream was one of the things that made him reconsider his priorities. Fortunately, fellow former mechanic Kristian Ortiz helped Winters get lined up with a new gig at SpaceX, with a position at the aerospace group's Florida facility.

Ken Roczen, Eli Tomac, and the lead pack of 2021 have taken a new lease on racing, enjoying the process and having fun with their crew instead of using results to determine their entire life's worth. In this Racer X Exhaust podcast, Jason Weigandt narrates through quotes from Kenny in 2021, illustrating his new approach. When Kenny was frustrated, he moved on. When Kenny won, he also moved on. Justin Bogle and Colt Nichols are two of the most articulate riders in the pits, and they're also best friends, from their racing days on the local Oklahoma scene to where they sit now: Bogle with a new Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS ride and Nichols leading the 250SX West standings on his Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha. It's not always this easy, though, as both have had tough times with injuries and employment. They've always had each other to lean on, though, and that has made all the difference. These days, Bogle is crashing at Nichols' house in California, and they travel to the races together. When Nichols won Anaheim, Bogle was the first to run up and congratulate him. They've been there for the lows, so it's only right to be there for the highs. Jason Weigandt grabs both riders in this episode of the Racer X Exhaust podcast.
