Creepypasta Scary Story
This reprise of a story from “Trouble” is not exactly a Hanukkah story, but it is Hanukkah-”adjacent” (to borrow a wonderful phrase from Nick Sipe in his story in “Foolhardy”). It is a story about family and memories and candles, essential elements of that cultural celebration and observance. It is a story about empathy, something we can all use more of and offer more often when we can. —Happy Holidays from “6-minute Stories” podcast and the Personal Story Publishing Project.“Thirteen Candles in the Dark”—the “mother-in-law from hell” The trouble between them was as old and deep as the love which might yet heal them. Arlene Mandell is an artist living in Linville, North Carolina. Her colorful portraits are displayed year-round at the Carlton Gallery in Banner Elk (www.carltongallery.com/arlenemandell). A native New Yorker, she loved teaching in Manhattan's Head Start program. Switching gears, she joined a travel magazine in Miami, Florida, where she met Captain Dan. Their permanent relocation to the Blue Ridge Mountains inspired a love of writing. Her memoirs “Eye of the Dolphin,” “Artist Borne,” “Gobsmacked in the Gulfstream,” “Renegade Daughter,” and “It Started with a Typo” appear on “6-minute Stories” podcast.
In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Julie Linville from Bonney Lake, WA.Are you ready to take your intermittent fasting lifestyle to the next level? There's nothing better than community to help with that. In the Delay, Don't Deny community we all embrace the clean fast, and there's just the right support for you as you live your intermittent fasting lifestyle. You can connect directly with Gin in the Ask Gin group, and she will answer all of your questions personally. If you're new to intermittent fasting or recommitting to the IF lifestyle, join the 28-Day FAST Start group. After your fast start, join us for support in The 1st Year group. Need tips for long term maintenance? We have a place for that! There are many more useful spaces beyond these, and you can interact in as many as you like. Visit ginstephens.com/community to join us. An annual membership costs just over a dollar a week when you do the math. If you aren't ready to fully commit for a year, join for a month and you can cancel at any time. If you know you'll want to stay forever, we also have a lifetime membership option available. IF is free. You don't need to join our community to fast. But if you're looking for support from a community of like-minded IFers, we are here for you at ginstephens.com/community. Julie is an administrative assistant in a school district in the special education department. As she went through her 50s, she experienced the hormonal changes related to surgical menopause and then developed Graves' Disease, and she felt awful. After getting the Graves' Disease under control, she began gaining weight. As an adult, she had always maintained between 142-148, so when she got on the scale and saw 164, she knew that something had to change. But she also had the thought, “this is just who I am now,” figuring that both the weight gain and sluggishness are simply what happens as we age.Fortunately, she found a YouTube video in January of 2023 that explained intermittent fasting and recommended Gin's book Fast. Feast. Repeat. She downloaded the book and got started right away, and a couple of weeks later, her husband joined her. Within 2-3 days, Julie felt better. The brain fog she had been living with lifted, and pain she had been living with resolved. By the time her birthday rolled around in April of that year, she was down to 150, and she kept going, eventually getting back down to her goal range. She had been a size 8/M her entire adult life, but now finds herself wearing a size 6/S. Julie is motivated to continue living the intermittent fasting lifestyle forever, because she wants to avoid the dementia that her parents faced as they aged. She also wants to remain strong and capable as she ages, and she loves the way she feels as an intermittent faster. As the episode closes, Julie recommends that new intermittent fasters focus on the health benefits and how much better you are feeling. She emphasizes that you should stick with it, and don't put so much emphasis on the scale. Know that everyone is different, but that wonderful things are happening in your body.Get Gin's books at: https://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html. Good news! As active menopausal women, we get outright bombarded with ads for nutritional supplements. But what do we really need? This week, we take it down to brass tacks and hit the basics with registered dietitian nutritionist Katie Linville. We break it down on what we should know about calcium, vitamin D, magnesium, iron, and the other vitamins and minerals we're often told to take as a matter of course. While we're at it, we also venture into cholesterol, blood sugar, and CGMs. You may be surprised to learn that there's more to these metrics than what you eat.Katie Linville is a registered dietitian with 11+ years of experience, who received both her bachelor's and master's degrees at Florida State University. Katie specializes in nutrition for women's health, and has experience supporting women in menopause to optimize mental health and their relationship with food and their bodies. Additionally, she holds a specialty certification in oncology nutrition (CSO) and has experience working with cancer survivors through treatment and for prevention. In her spare time, Katie enjoys running, hiking, and spending time at the beach with her family. William Linville discusses being a "walk-in,” a concept where he claims his current consciousness entered his body during a gastric bypass surgery in 1996, which was a very barbaric procedure back in those days. He talks about how the original soul died three times on the operating table and after the original soul departed for good the third time, the new soul inhabited the body. The new soul came out of that surgery with a body weighing over 425 pounds, malnourished and unable to walk. After so many doctors telling him there was nothing more they could do for him, he eventually found an energy healer in California who helped him. His physical pain started to go away, he got healthy and started to walk again.William also talks about the dynamics of his relationships with his then wife and kids post his soul-transition, if you will, and how his new identity affected these relationships. We also discuss his experiences and memories from other dimensions and his insights on universal consciousness, and what happens after we transition. You'll want to make sure you stay till the end where William guides me through two beautiful processes that you can easily following along with to feel a beautiful healing or at the very least, relax and feel super calm and yummy.
