Former Cleveland Browns running back Eric Metcalf joins the show to reflect on his NFL career and the journey that took him from following in his father Terry Metcalf's footsteps to becoming a three-time Pro Bowler. Despite being considered undersized for the position, Metcalf dominated at every level of football from age seven through his professional career, consistently being the best player on his teams. He discusses how he was recruited by nearly every major college program before choosing the University of Texas, where he played four years and won 24 games despite never beating rivals Oklahoma or Texas A&M.Metcalf shares candid memories of his time with the Cleveland Browns, including the heartbreak of losing the 1989 AFC Championship game to Denver when the team believed they were Super Bowl-bound. He opens up about the unique challenges of being a smaller running back in an era that favored larger, ground-and-pound players, expressing how he would thrive in today's spread offense systems that value versatile backs like Christian McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara. The conversation also touches on his experience being traded to Atlanta in 1995, just before the Browns' controversial move to Baltimore, and his lifelong regret of never running out of the tunnel at a Super Bowl despite a stellar career.

In this unforgettable conversation, former NFL superstar Ricky Watters—Super Bowl champion, five-time Pro Bowler, and one of the most versatile running backs in football history—opens up about the story most people don't know: his journey as an adoptee and now as an adoptive father.Ricky shares how he accidentally learned he was adopted at age 10, the confusion and hurt that followed, and the sense of belonging he struggled to piece together as a child. He talks about the moments he wishes someone had spoken directly to his younger self—words he now pours into his son Shane with intention, honesty, and unconditional love.Together, Ricky and Rebecca explore how raising his son through interracial and international adoption helped him heal parts of his own identity story, and how transparency, openness, and affirmation became non-negotiables in his home. Ricky also reflects on the moment he met his biological family, the creative passions he inherited from them, and how rediscovering his roots helped complete the puzzle of who he is today.Important Links
In the third of the NHL Wraparound Celebrity Series, Neil and Vic welcome three-time Super Bowl champion placekicker with the New England Patriots Stephen Gostkowski to the show. The four-time Pro Bowler and Patriots all-time scoring leader covers a range of topics from his early days or an athlete, to playing under Bill Belichick and with Tom Brady to life after football.Gostkowski even mixes in a little hockey as a young fan of the Buffalo Sabres and, more recently, the Boston Bruins.IN THIS EPISODE:[01:49] - Neil welcomes Stephen Gostkowski to the show. Gostkowski shares how he got into placekicking as well as the uniqueness of the position where the participation in a game is brief but, often, very noticeable. Simply, the life of a kicker.[06:47] - Given the apparent isolation for a kicker, Stephen shares who he bonded with during the course of his career.[10:20] - The expectations succeeding Adam Vinatieri, a kicker who had carved his niche in NFL lore with four Super Bowl wins (three with New England) including some of the great clutch kicks in league history.[13:16] - The relationship with head coach Bill Belichick.[15:33] - Gostkowski's interesting take on why there's likely no coaching comparable in hockey, baseball or basketball to Belichick.[17:29] - How 'bout Tom Brady?[20:33] - Born in Louisiana and spending some early years in Buffalo, Gostkowski laced skates up at an early age and even suffered a casualty quite common to NHL players. However, any thoughts of playing hockey were erased by a move to Mississippi and played a significant role in Stephen eventually playing football.[22:43] - A fan of the Sabres growing up, Stephen still recalls the heartbreak of the 1999 "Toe in the Crease" controversy which delivered the Stanley Cup to Dallas. Since coming to the New England area almost two decades ago, his team allegiance has shifted as he's gotten to know some of the Bruins players.[24:51] - Remaining a fan of the team Stephen made his mark with. [26:18] - Thoughtful dialogue about transitioning from pro sports back to a "normal life." It's something Gostkowski had to adjust to and an area he wants to be able to assist others with.[31:17] - The deeper dive of the transition is the locker room/team environment being replaced family life and other activities which can be fulfilling, albeit not on a competitive level. Stephen adds a bucket list item for himself.[35:49] - After investing so much in himself, Gostkowski was recognized in March...and just might be again in 2026...Website: www.nhlwraparound.comX: https://twitter.com/NHLWraparoundNeil Smith: https://twitter.com/NYCNeilVic Morren: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vic-morren-7038737/NHL Wraparound Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/nhlwraparound/#NHLWraparound #NHLWraparound.com #ShortShifts #NYCentric #CelebritySeries #HallofFameEdition #StanleyCupdate #SummerCoolers #Smith'sPix #NeilSmith #VicMorren #PatrickHoffman #NHL #SummerCoolers #BobbyValentine #ChrisChelios #StephenGostkowski #NewEnglandPatriots #TedyBruschi #AdamVinatieri #BillBelichick #NorthCarolinaTarheels #TomBrady #WayneGretzky #MichaelJordan #LeBronJames #DerekJeter #KobeBryant #AlexanderMogilny #PatLafontaine #RobRay #DominikHasek #MikeVrabel #AlexeiKovalev #CraigWolanin #NationalAmericanPolishSportsHallofFame #ProFootballHallofFame #PatrickChung

In the heated world of NFL rivalries, few moments capture raw emotion like a spit take—literally. On November 16, 2025, during the Pittsburgh Steelers' 34-12 demolition of the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11, Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase found himself at the center of controversy. In the fourth quarter, amid a scrum of trash talk and tangled limbs, Chase allegedly spat on Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey, igniting a brawl that saw Ramsey ejected for throwing a punch. The incident unfolded after an earlier scuffle that drew personal foul flags on both players. Ramsey, no stranger to on-field theatrics, grabbed Chase by the facemask and unleashed a helmet-rattling swing. Post-game, Ramsey didn't mince words: "He spit on me. I don't give a f--- about football after that, respectfully. I'm all for trash talking, but that's crossing the line." Chase, the Bengals' explosive 2021 first-round pick and three-time Pro Bowler, vehemently denied it: "I never opened my mouth to that guy. I didn't spit on nobody." But video evidence from FOX 19 cameras in Cincinnati told a different story, capturing what appeared to be a clear projectile from Chase's direction. The NFL wasted no time. On November 17, the league slapped Chase with a one-game suspension without pay, citing Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1: "any act which is contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship." He'll miss the Bengals' Week 12 clash with the New England Patriots, costing him roughly $448,333 in salary. This marks the second spitting-related ban this season, echoing Eagles DT Jalen Carter's ejection and suspension for hawking a loogie at Cowboys QB Dak Prescott in Week 1. Bengals coach Zac Taylor, while praising Chase's usual poise—"He's one of the best leaders we've got"—deemed the act "unacceptable." For a team already reeling from QB Joe Burrow's Week 2 injury and a 2-8 record, losing their 1,000-yard receiver stings. Chase, with 72 catches for 1,128 yards and 8 TDs this year, embodies Cincinnati's high-octane offense. Critics decry the league's zero-tolerance stance on such "disgusting" behavior, arguing it deters the passion that fuels football. Yet, precedents like Carter's affirm the NFL's message: Spitting isn't spirited—it's sanction-worthy. As Chase appeals (or doesn't), this episode underscores the thin line between competitive fire and foul play. In a league of gladiators, one glob of saliva can sideline a superstar. Will it humble Chase or harden his edge? Only the tape—and the tape—will tell. Music from #InAudio: https://inaudio.org/ Track Name Holy (Trap). In his 15th season in the NFL Fran Tarkenton was having another great year. Maybe his best. The Vikings would start the season 10-0 and finish 12-2 atop the NFL Central in large part to the numbers put up by Tarkenton. He completed 273 of his 425 attempts, 25 of them for touchdowns to lead the league in those 3 categories. And when the season concluded, he would take home the Most Valuable Player Award for the 1975 season. After three more very successful seasons in Minnesota, Tarkenton retired after his 18th year in the NFL. He finished his career with numerous NFL records at the time including completions (3,686), attempts (6,467) yards (47,003). and (342) touchdowns. Known as the 'Mad Scrambler', Tarkenton was the game's first true dual threat, retiring as the NFL's all-time leader in rushing yards by a quarterback and he did it all by winning games… the most ever by a QB at the time of him hanging it up. He was named a Pro-Bowler 9 times, and had his #10 retired by the Vikings while being named one of the 50 greatest Vikings and Giants players of all-time. And in 1986, he earned a gold jacket and was enshrined into Canton as a member of the NFL's Hall of Fame. Unfortunately his success didn't translate to the postseason. Three times he took his Vikings teams to the Super Bowl and three times they came up short. But Fran tells us on the Past Our Prime podcast there is a reason the Vikings lost 4 of the first 11 Super Bowls. He also tells us about his love and admiration for the coach of those Minnesota teams, Bud Grant, and how if he could prepare for those Super Bowl games from back then differently now the results may have been different. Tarkenton also tells us how the loss to the Cowboys in the playoffs in 1975 was a “monumental day” in his life… one that changed him forever. Minutes after Roger Staubach connected with Drew Pearson on possibly the first ‘Hail Mary' ever, his life was forever altered. A tragic tale only made worse by how it all unfolded. Once retired, Fran embarked on his 2nd act and 50 years later, he's still as competitive and active as ever and more often than not… still coming out on top. As the CEO of https://tarkentonfinancial.com/ Fran continues to produce at a high level. His financial company has seen him rise to the top of the business world and he tells us how he stays up to date on the newest business trends like pipIQ which reduces risks associated with misusing AI in small and mid-size businesses at a fraction of the cost. If you're interested in learning more about this breakthrough technology go to https://pipiq.com/?via=proTV Fran tells us that the similarities between being a QB in a huddle or a CEO in a board room are numerous. That he learned more by his failures than by his successes and that the great leaders all have one thing in common. What is it? Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks are joined by seven-time Pro Bowler and former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Luke Kuechly to talk about his transition from playing in the NFL to coaching youth football. Luke shares his thoughts on the Panthers’ strong season and how head coach Dave Canales has helped the team embrace its identity. He explains why a lack of attention to detail and urgency frustrates him more than anything else on the field. Luke also reflects on his mastery of the Panthers’ defense during his career, while admitting he couldn’t have called plays at the same time. Plus, Luke shares what makes his former coordinator Sean McDermott so effective in shaping the Bills’ defensive style. Move the Sticks is part of the NFL Podcasts Network. Episode No. 8 of the Irish Illustrated Interviews podcast series features linebacker Jaylon Smith, a high school and collegiate Butkus Award winner, a two-time All-American at Notre Dame, and a 10-year NFL veteran. He played for the Fighting Irish from 2013 to 2015, leading Notre Dame in tackles and havoc plays in his final season as a junior, a campaign that ended with a trip to the Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State. Unfortunately, in the loss to the Buckeyes, Smith also suffered a devastating injury, tearing his ACL and LCL and enduring significant nerve damage. As a result, he fell from a projected top-five pick to an early second-round selection, with several teams unsure if he'd be able to play football again. Nevertheless, Smith preserved. After sitting out his rookie year with the Dallas Cowboys, he returned to the gridiron a season later and eventually became a Pro Bowler in the midst of a decade-long NFL career. Our conversation spans his entire playing career. Plus, we dive into how he overcame his injury and how he's currently investing in the South Bend community by opening JINYA Ramen Bar on Eddy Street, directly across from campus.
