The subject of holiness and sanctification cannot be treated apart from God and His presence. The ground around the burning bush and Mount Sinai was hallowed because of His presence. In the Old Testament there are degrees of holiness, but in the New Testament and today, God's Spirit is in us making us holy. Sanctification is not the act or process of justification; it is the activity of the presence of God to change us into His image and likeness. Studying grammar, particularly antonyms like "common" and "profane", helps us better understand the original meanings of the Hebrew words related to holiness and sanctification. We have a language problem, where holiness is made synonymous with perfection; it cannot mean perfection or sinlessness except when speaking of God and His attributes. When God declares people holy, they are set apart and dedicated, not perfect. Breaking down the basic Hebrew verbs shows us that God does the sanctifying and it is a process, not a state we remain in consistently. It is started here on earth and wholly completed in His presence. VF-2194 Watch, Listen and Learn 24x7 at PastorMelissaScott.com Pastor Melissa Scott teaches from Faith Center in Glendale. Signs of Life - Medium Insights with Host Roman Karpishka Mediumship, Forensic Astrology, and the Many Ways Spirit Communicates Guest: #FFFCertifiedMedium Dave Campbell Dave has more than twenty years of experience as a medium and astrologer. He wrote the book 'Forensic Astrology: Solving Crimes with Astrology,' and is also a contributing author of the book 'Find Me', which is about the group of psychics, mediums, astrologers, and law enforcement canine search and rescue that is dedicated to assisting families and the police in finding missing people. Roman Karpishka Opens Signs of Life: Medium Insights In this episode of Signs of Life: Medium Insights, host Roman Karpishka welcomes listeners to the Forever Family Foundation broadcast exploring survival of consciousness, spirituality, mediumship, and the afterlife. Roman introduces guest Dave Campbell, a professional psychic medium and astrologer with more than 20 years of experience. Dave is described as a specialist in forensic astrology, a contributor to the book Find Me, and someone who has worked with families and law enforcement-related groups to help locate missing people, profile cases, and interpret information through astrology and psychic perception. Symbols, Names, and Spirit Communication Roman begins by asking Dave about symbolism and how symbols speak to him during readings. Dave explains that spirit often communicates through images, names, songs, characters, or unusual symbols, and that he does not always know whether something is literal or figurative until the client confirms it. He gives examples of receiving cartoon references like Fred Flintstone, Velma from Scooby-Doo, Tabitha from Bewitched, and Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz to identify names or personal connections. He also shares a memorable example of hearing the song “Love Shack” during a group reading, which turned out to be a meaningful private reference for a man whose girlfriend had passed. Helping Clients Relax Before Readings The conversation moves into how clients often feel nervous or apprehensive before a psychic or medium reading. Dave says almost everyone is nervous at first, and he tries to calm them by talking with them and explaining that nothing scary will happen. He says nervous energy can affect him as well, so helping clients relax is important for the reading itself. Roman and Dave frame the process as one that requires openness, calm, and trust rather than fear or forced expectation. Forensic Astrology and Missing-Person Cases Dave then discusses his work with a group that assists in missing-person and law-enforcement-related cases. He says the group includes psychics, mediums, astrologers, and other intuitive practitioners, and that cases generally come through the group rather than directly through him. Dave explains that they will not take a case unless law enforcement is willing to receive the information, because otherwise the work may not be used. He describes how some cases take years to receive feedback, and how the group later compares results against known information to evaluate accuracy. Remote Work, On-Location Impressions, and Case Examples Dave explains that most of the group's work is done remotely, but sometimes small teams go on location when assigned. He says being physically present at a location can intensify the connection because the raw energy of the place is stronger. He shares one example of following a road on Google Maps and identifying where a missing man would be found after his vehicle went off a cliff. He also mentions a murder case in which he visited the victim's home, received impressions of the perpetrator, and later saw those impressions validated when the suspect was caught and convicted, though he avoids naming the case because of legal sensitivity. Mediumship Evidence and Unusual Validations Roman asks Dave about mind-blowing experiences from his mediumship practice. Dave describes a reading for a mother and daughter in which the deceased father brought through the image of an octopus. Although Dave thought it sounded unlikely, the women had specifically agreed that if he mentioned an octopus, they would know the reading was real. Dave says such unusual validations are meaningful because they are too specific to be guessed easily. He also explains that animals can appear in readings and may communicate much like people do, whether dogs, cats, horses, turtles, or other pets. The Afterlife, Heaven, and the Moment of Death The conversation turns to what Dave has perceived about the afterlife. He says departed loved ones often describe themselves as being in heaven, though the details vary because each person's experience of the other side may be different. Some may show mountains, landscapes, space-like imagery, or places that resemble what they loved while alive. Dave also says he does not believe people experience pain at the moment of death once they are out of the body. He describes accounts in which people observe their bodies being worked on after an accident without feeling physical pain, and he says the transition is generally associated with peace, love, light, and spiritual release. Astrology, Destiny, Free Will, and Life Plans Roman and Dave also discuss astrology, destiny, and free will. Dave says his view has changed over time, and he now believes much of life is pre-planned, with free will influencing how people respond to the plan. He describes an astrology chart as a kind of map a person comes in with, showing major life themes, people, career paths, lessons, and opportunities. According to Dave, if something is not in the chart, it is not likely to happen, but individuals still have choice in how they engage with what appears. The conversation also touches on reincarnation, soul lessons, and the possibility that difficult experiences may need to be faced again if they are not worked through. Violence, Disclosure, Aliens, and the State of the World Roman asks Dave whether the world is more violent than it used to be, and Dave says he believes people may simply hear about violence more because of instant news and social media. They also discuss astrology's connection to major historical cycles, including planetary alignments Dave connects with revolutionary periods. The conversation briefly moves into extraterrestrial life, with Dave saying he believes intelligent life exists elsewhere and that contact has likely already happened in some way. Roman and Dave discuss government disclosures, media manipulation, skepticism, intuition, and the need for discernment when interpreting public events. Caller Melanie, Grief, Charts, and Soul Lessons A caller named Melanie from Nevada joins the show and offers a reflection on timelessness, comparing it to flow states such as playing music and losing track of time. She asks Dave about choosing astrological reports, and he recommends starting with a natal chart if someone has never had their chart interpreted before. Melanie also discusses soul contracts, the death of her daughter, grief, choice points, suicide, and the possibility that souls may face lessons again if they leave before completing them. Dave agrees that suicide is overly stigmatized and says he has not seen evidence that people who die by suicide are condemned to hell or eternal darkness. He encourages a more compassionate understanding while still acknowledging that unresolved lessons may continue. Boundaries, Ethics, and Closing Reflections Near the end, Roman asks Dave whether he has ever refused to give someone a reading. Dave says he has, especially when someone is in such severe grief that they need counseling first, or when a person comes in only to challenge or test him rather than receive healing or evidence. He emphasizes that mediumship can support grief, but it does not replace counseling. Dave closes by telling listeners they can find him through The Astrology Store in Glendale, Arizona, where he offers medium readings, natal chart readings, forecasts, relationship readings, compatibility work, relocation readings, and group events. Roman thanks Dave, the caller, and the listeners, and signs off until the next second-Thursday broadcast.

What the Bible means by the word "sanctification" is difficult to understand in English because different streams of words were used simultaneously to translate these concepts. It is faulty understanding and bad theology that equate holiness with morality or perfection; the meaning in the original languages was to be set apart by God for His purposes. Rightly understood, it is not something we can do to ourselves but rather something done to us by the Holy Spirit. To understand the importance of the Resurrection and why it is worth following the proofs, there must first be an acknowledgement of our fallen condition, in need of divine pardon, and a recognition of our immortality. If Christ is not risen, our preaching, first, is vain. Our faith and hope of forgiveness and resurrection are also in vain. No "logical explanations" can explain away the transformation of Paul or the eyewitnesses, the exact timing and details of fulfilled prophecy, or the growth of the church. 1 Corinthians 15:14 VF-2076 Watch, Listen and Learn 24x7 at PastorMelissaScott.com Pastor Melissa Scott teaches from Faith Center in Glendale. Examining the intrinsic evidence from both pre- and post-ascension records provides the bedrock of proof beyond a shadow of doubt that the Biblical record was written by men telling the truth about the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This truth that Christ lives gives us an incredible hope! Hope that death no longer has dominion over us and we will be with the Lord forever! When doing a study on the Resurrection and trying to get information, there are a few things we must do as historians. First, use a method that has been tried and proven, that we know has the ability to unearth. Next, detach from bias. Finally, account for what we know as certain history. Many critics apply different criteria for looking at Scripture than they would for looking at any other field of study, leading to biased conclusions. An honest historian's approach to the evidence available indicates the scriptural records are valid history. Our faith is not vain: He is risen, and with the presence of Christ in our lives, we can order our lives accordingly. It is a mistake to assume the disciples were the only witness of the risen Christ. Such an assumption leaves a big gap in explaining the vast spread of Christianity in such a short period of time. A careful reading of the book of Acts shows us that there were many more witnesses whose preaching was consistently focused on one thing: the risen Christ and the power of His Resurrection. Chuck And Julie Show with Chuck Bonniwell and Julie Hayden Colorado GOP Shakeup: Craig Steiner, Opt-Out, Party Strategy, and the Road Ahead Guest, Ted Harvey The CO GOP elected a new party chair - Craig Steiner from Douglas County. Supporter Ted Harvey joins the show and assures grassroots Steiner fully backs opting out of the disastrous open primary. Plus Tina Peters is free today! Chuck and Julie Open with Colorado Republican Party News In this episode of The Chuck and Julie Show, hosts Chuck Bonniwell and Julie Hayden open with major news from the Colorado Republican Party. They discuss the party meeting in Buena Vista, where Craig Steiner of Douglas County was elected the new Colorado GOP chair after defeating Joe Oltmann and Jeremy Goodall. The hosts bring on former Colorado legislator and strategist Ted Harvey, who supported Steiner's campaign and helped explain what the leadership change may mean for the party going forward. Ted Harvey Describes Craig Steiner as a Tactician Ted Harvey describes Craig Steiner as a political tactician rather than a loud partisan figure. He explains that Steiner previously served as secretary and chair of the Douglas County Republican Party and created a voter-targeting program called Voter Spectrum, which has been used for get-out-the-vote efforts, door knocking, phone banking, and campaign organizing. Harvey argues that Steiner is strong on conservative issues such as life, guns, taxes, unions, and education, and points to Douglas County victories, including Republican wins and school-board efforts, as evidence that Steiner understands how to organize and win. Ballot Harvesting and Get-Out-the-Vote Strategy Chuck asks about ballot harvesting and whether it will be part of the Colorado GOP's future strategy. He recalls using absentee voting and ballot collection in Glendale years earlier and argues that Republicans have often been outworked by Democrats on this front. Harvey says Douglas County Republicans have used similar tactics successfully, especially in smaller races where turnout is lower, but acknowledges that large-scale ballot harvesting requires money, volunteers, organization, and paid effort. He also notes that the Colorado Republican Party does not currently have much money, making fundraising and organizational rebuilding essential. The Opt-Out Issue and Republican Primaries A major focus of the interview is Colorado's opt-out issue, tied to the party's ability to opt out of open primaries and return more candidate selection power to Republican caucus and assembly participants. Harvey says he has been on the front line helping push opt-out efforts and would not have supported Steiner if Steiner were not aligned with him on that issue. He says Steiner opposed Proposition 108 when it was on the ballot and believed the party should opt out as quickly as possible. Harvey argues that establishment figures have used open primaries to influence Republican nominations and keep conservatives from winning. Party Debt, Legal Bills, and Donor Confidence Chuck and Julie also ask about party finances, debt, and legal bills left from the previous administration. Harvey says donors were reluctant to give money while the party appeared focused on legal battles and internal fights rather than electing Republicans. He says Steiner's first task will be to understand the lawsuits, invoices, and financial obligations facing the party. Harvey believes that if donors see competent leadership and assurance that money will go toward winning elections instead of paying attorneys, they may begin contributing again. Neutral Leadership and Avoiding the Enemy List The hosts discuss internal party fights, including what they describe as “enemy lists” and attacks on grassroots conservatives under prior party leadership. Harvey says Steiner will not create an enemy list and will not use the chairmanship to put his thumb on the scale in primaries. While Chuck and Julie express interest in seeing some establishment Republicans challenged, Harvey argues that the chair should not personally drive primary attacks. Instead, he says the state party should focus on making the process fair and preventing establishment forces from tilting the playing field against conservatives. The RNC, NRCC, and Future Assemblies Harvey says the Republican National Committee and national Republican groups will need to decide whether to work with the Colorado GOP if the party moves forward with opt-out. He argues that Steiner's temperament may help because Steiner is not a bomb-thrower, but someone focused on doing the work. Harvey says the party will need to prepare for a very different nomination process, including state, county, state House, and state Senate assemblies where Republican activists and caucus participants will have far more influence in selecting nominees. Tina Peters Released from Custody After the Ted Harvey interview, Chuck and Julie turn to the release of Tina Peters, who was freed that morning. They discuss her interview with Steve Bannon, where she said she remained concerned about election machines and vote-flipping claims. Chuck and Julie criticize media descriptions that characterize Peters as being imprisoned for “election fraud,” arguing that the actual charges related to official misconduct, impersonation, and attempts to influence a public servant. They also criticize Republicans and Democrats who opposed her release, while noting that Governor Jared Polis may have had political reasons for granting relief. Colorado Politics, Jared Polis, and Party Divisions The hosts speculate about Governor Jared Polis's motives, including whether his decision regarding Tina Peters may be connected to future national ambitions. They also discuss divisions within Colorado politics, the role of county clerks, and the divide between grassroots Republicans and establishment figures. Chuck argues that the state may eventually become ready for a real alternative to Democratic governance if economic and political conditions continue to decline, though he also acknowledges that opt-out alone will not guarantee statewide Republican victories. Media Humor, Spencer Pratt, and Campaign Messaging The episode later shifts into commentary on media, campaign ads, and political humor. Chuck and Julie discuss Spencer Pratt's Los Angeles mayoral campaign messaging and praise a satirical ad portraying left-leaning media outlets as a kind of ideological treatment. They argue that humor can be powerful political messaging when it is funny because it contains truth. The hosts contrast this style with Republican messaging they see as less creative, saying conservatives could benefit from sharper, more intelligent humor. CBS, CNN, Barry Weiss, and Legacy Media The hosts also comment on legacy media upheaval, including reports involving Barry Weiss, CBS/60 Minutes figures, Scott Pelley, Anderson Cooper, CNN, and possible changes in major network leadership. Chuck and Julie frame these developments as signs that old media institutions are losing influence and that some longtime media personalities may not understand how much the media landscape has changed. Their broader point is that legacy outlets can no longer assume the same level of audience control or cultural authority they once had. Closing Thoughts on the Colorado GOP's Future Chuck and Julie close by saying they believe Craig Steiner's leadership could help stabilize and revitalize the Colorado Republican Party, especially if the opt-out process moves forward. They describe him as a calmer, more practical chair who may not be as combative as past figures but may be better suited to rebuilding party structure. The episode ends with optimism that the party may be moving toward a more grassroots-driven future, even while acknowledging that organization, money, unity, and candidate quality will still determine whether Republicans can win.
How did the Apostle Paul go from being an enemy of Christians to defender of the faith? There would be no benefit for an enemy of the church to lie about his conversion to the faith, to preach openly and establish churches or to give them correction. After the Resurrection Jesus appeared to Paul and chose him to herald the gospel. Paul's deep knowledge of the word lays out the basis for our hope in the Resurrection, the promise of eternal life. 1 Corinthians 15 VF-2182 Watch, Listen and Learn 24x7 at PastorMelissaScott.com Pastor Melissa Scott teaches from Faith Center in Glendale. Hello Interactors,We like to think we choose our own paths, but our cities have already decided for us. New York and Los Angeles function as the extended phenotype of our species — a living circulatory system that subtly channels our collective behavior. This week, we explore the multi-generational biology of transit to see how modern infrastructure effectively dissolves what we perceive as individual autonomy. MANHATTAN MOBILITY AND THE MASSED MILIEUI recently flew from New York visiting my daughter, where large vessels moved massive numbers of people around, to Los Angeles visiting my son, where small vessels moved small numbers of people around. The transition was jarring. I went from being physically enmeshed in a dense social milieu to being systematically protected from it — from walking over 10,000 steps a day to barely 1,000. My daily cadence shifted from bobbing and weaving around persons I could see, hear, and smell, to maneuvering around what sociologist Mike Michael termed ‘carsons' — persons fused with a car. This deep-seated desire for individual control over our own mobility is not unique to the modern driver. The instinct to leverage an external entity to conquer long distances is as old as the domestication of the horse in the third millennium BCE. Every stage of human life presents a shifting horizon of mobile autonomy: from crawling to walking, to the childhood triumph of mastering a bicycle or a local bus network, to the initial rush of freedom that comes with a first car. All before the natural declines of aging ultimately diminish our autonomy once more.Yet, suggesting mass transit to many Americans accustomed to the perceived agency of the car feels like a threat to their very freedom. Because transit routes are fixed and schedules are unyielding, collective travel is often mischaracterized as an artificial restriction on liberty. History shows that long before the locomotive, scheduled, multi-passenger transit enabled human freedom and societal cohesion where individual movement was risky or impossible. Across Eastern Polynesia, the Caribbean, and northern Eurasia, multi-passenger canoes were the lifeblood of trade and travel. In southern California, the Chumash and Tongva communities developed advanced sewn-plank canoes called tomols and ti'ats, which facilitated complex political economies between the Channel Islands and the mainland. This reliance on collective vehicles extended beyond coastal waterways. Human networks also depended on highly organized, shared transport to conquer distance across vast terrestrial and inland landscapes.Centuries before Western cities built public transit, imperial China constructed the Grand Canal, a two-thousand-kilometer artificial waterway that operated as a continental transit artery during the Sui Dynasty. This facilitated the regular movement of millions of passengers and state resources between agricultural basins and northern metropolises. On land, Tokugawa-era Japan structured its empire around the Tōkaidō, a highly regulated highway system where travelers moved rhythmically between post stations using a coordinated network of horse relays and official permits.Eastern aquatic and terrestrial networks achieved continental scale, replicated on Europe's rugged overland trails. Public multi-passenger carriage service began in Paris in 1662 with the world's first urban transit system. In colonial America, occasional stagecoaches linked Boston and New York starting around 1735, with regular schedules emerging in the 1740s. By the late 1820s, fixed-route horse-buses (omnibuses) appeared in Paris (1828) and New York City (1827). When urban populations exploded in mid 1800s, these street-level collective networks buckled under their own weight. It triggered unprecedented structural crises. By the late 19th century, New York City was drowning in a public health emergency born of its own transit power. Imagine over 150,000 working horses blanketing the streets. Now imagine thousands of tons of manure and urine daily. When a horse influenza epidemic paralyzed the city overnight in 1872, New Yorkers realized they could no longer rely on street-level animal power. The city initially looked upward and built coal-fired elevated railroads — the “Els” — on massive iron trestles. While these steam engines bypassed street traffic and allowed Manhattan to expand northward, they rained hot ash onto pedestrians, blocked natural light, and shattered the urban peace with deafening noise.True structural relief required going underground. Early pneumatic experiments, like Alfred Ely Beach's secret, air-driven tunnel in 1870, remained short-lived novelties due to political opposition and mechanical limitations (only 300 feet long, single-car shuttle). The project closed in 1873. The breakthrough for electric rail came in 1890 with the City & South London Railway in London, the first railway to use third rail electrification. The third rail — an additional, continuous steel rail running alongside the tracks that carries electricity to train cars — became the standard for underground and metro systems from around 1900. October 27, 1904, the Interborough Rapid Transit Company opened its first official subway line from City Hall to Harlem. This permanently compressed densely housed humanity into a swift, subterranean network, channeling the city's chaos beneath the cobblestones.COASTAL CARRIAGES AND THE CYCLEWAYWhile New York dug into the earth to consolidate its density, a parallel but radically different evolution was unfolding across the wide horizon of the Los Angeles basin. Between the 1820s and 1904, Los Angeles transformed from an isolated Mexican pueblo (population ~650) into a sprawling metropolis (population 100,000+). Here surface transit was not just responding to growth, but was actively engineering it. After bridging the distance to its seaport via the San Pedro Railroad in 1869 and connecting to the transcontinental rail network via Southern Pacific in 1876, the city experienced the Southern California real estate boom of the 1880s (1884-1887), which required vast spatial integration. The 1885 completion of the Santa Fe Railroad's direct line to Chicago triggered a development boom that dwarfed the earlier one, transforming the region.Rather than stacking millions of people into a vertical core, transit magnates like Moses Sherman and Henry Huntington realized that electric surface rail could be weaponized as a tool for land speculation. They built lines out into empty fields, bought up the surrounding acreage, and subdivided it into suburban tracts for commuting workers. A similar strategy played out in Chicago. Founded in 1901, Huntington's Pacific Electric 'Red Cars' rapidly expanded, opening its first interurban line to Long Beach on July 4, 1902.At its peak in the 1920s, the Pacific Electric system became the largest electric railway system in the world, with over 1,000 miles of track connecting dozens of isolated towns across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties, stitching together hundreds of square miles. By scattering its population across a massive geographic basin, this surface network wrote the genetic code for LA's modern identity. This decentralized layout was perfectly primed to swap the shared space of the streetcar for the individualized isolation of the highway just a generation later.Yet, beneath both the subway tunnels of Manhattan and the streetcar tracks of Los Angeles lies a forgotten foundation engineered by an entirely different mode of transit. As Carlton Reid uncovers in Roads Were Not Built for Cars, our modern road networks were not designed for the automobile but were hard-won by late-nineteenth-century cyclists. For the moneyed elite who could afford the “safety bicycle” — the high-tech, liberating consumer gadget of the 1880s and 1890s — the machine offered an unprecedented leap in individual autonomy. Disgusted by muddy, horse-fouled, and rutted roads, these cyclists organized under the League of American Wheelmen, launching a powerful “Good Roads” movement that pioneered the smooth, paved macadam surfaces that motorists would later inherit and monopolize. While New York carved out its first dedicated bike path in 1894, when civic pressure led to the opening of the nation's first separated bike path along Brooklyn's Ocean Parkway, wealthy urbanites could now cycle down to Coney Island detached from chaotic street traffic. The parkway became NYC's first dedicated bicycle path and the first in the United States, described as the oldest bike path in the world by Guinness World Records.Simultaneously, the early elite of Pasadena and LA used the bicycle to weave together their sprawling territory. This culminated in 1900 with the opening of the California Cycleway — a spectacular, approximately 1.3-mile elevated timber bicycle toll-way running through the Arroyo Seco. Lit by incandescent bulbs and built from over 1.25 million board feet of pine, this highway offered a vision of uninterrupted, rapid commuter flow through open terrain. Though the full nine-mile route was never completed by the rapid rise of electric streetcars, its right-of-way established a profound precedent. Decades later, that exact path found a permanent place as the Arroyo Seco Parkway, LA's first freeway, formally opening on December 30, 1940.SUBTERRANEAN SABOTAGE AND THE SOCIALIZATION SYSTEMThe triumph of the automobile in Los Angeles was not an inevitability, nor was the city entirely devoid of subterranean ambition. In December 1925, Pacific Electric opened the Hollywood Subway. Boring a mile-long concrete tunnel beneath the Victorian mansions of Bunker Hill, they were able to bypass downtown LA's already paralyzing surface congestion. Emerging from the Beaux-Arts style Subway Terminal Building on Hill Street, this route allowed Red Cars to escape street traffic entirely, cutting fifteen minutes off the commute to Hollywood and Glendale. This subway featured 800 cars and carried over 20 million passengers annually during World War II.Grander visions for an expansive, multi-line underground network were ultimately thwarted by the financial instability inherent in private streetcar systems. There land speculating owners treated the tracks as loss leaders for real estate rather than long-term transportation infrastructure. When cars continued to flood the streets and choked the shared surface rights-of-way, the streetcars became agonizingly slow. Seduced by the promise of vehicular autonomy, voters repeatedly rejected ballot measures to publicly rescue the now dilapidated rail networks. By 1955, the Hollywood Subway was permanently shuttered, its tracks torn up, and the era of the freeway commenced.Yet, the ghost of this old network continues to dictate the spatial reality of Southern California. When LA began aggressively rebuilding its rail transit system in the 1990s, planners did not draw a new map from scratch. They followed the exact blueprint laid down by their turn-of-the-century predecessors. Today's Metro light rail lines heavily reuse those original, preserved rights-of-way. The Metro A Line runs directly along the old Red Car route to Long Beach, while the E Line utilizes an 1875 steam rail corridor to connect downtown to Santa Monica. Because LA's original commercial districts sprouted around these historic streetcar nodes, the region's current high-density transit-oriented developments naturally cluster along these legacy paths. LA is resurrecting a collective socio-technical network within the very corridors carved out a century ago. This haunting of contemporary geography by obsolete infrastructure is not unique to the West Coast. Manhattan mirrors this architectural resurrection in the form of the High Line, where a decades-abandoned elevated freight rail line was dramatically salvaged and transformed into a lush, floating pedestrian thoroughfare. Much like the ghost corridors of LA, this steel-and-concrete relic from a bygone industrial era was not demolished, but re-engineered to dictate a new rhythm of urban mobility. This shows that even when the original motors fall silent, the skeletal memory of our transit history retains the power to reshape how we move, meet, and experience the city.SOMATIC SWARMS AND THE SPATIAL SCALETo understand the jarring shift between the enmeshed collective of New York and the isolated individual of LA, we must look beyond human culture and into the very architecture of living systems. We are accustomed to thinking of ourselves as singular, autonomous decision-makers possessing a unified will. In reality, a human being is a cooperative collective — a high-level agency born out of the coordinated actions of trillions of individual cells, each working together without a central dictator to maintain a shared physiological boundary. When we move through a city, this nested intelligence does not end at our skin. The cities themselves are higher-order organisms. Their grid lines, subway tunnels, and freeway arterials function as an emergent collective anatomy engineered by the uncoordinated actions of millions of individuals over centuries. Just as a developing embryo relies on a distributed intelligence among cells to build and repair a complex body without a master architect, a city shapes its layout through emergent collective agency. No single planner willed the current configuration of New York or Los Angeles. Instead, these vast geographies are the bi-product of millions of cellularly nested actors. They coordinated as if through a process biologists call stigmergy — where actions leave physical traces in the environment that automatically stimulate and guide the next action. These externalized anatomy deposits act like large-scale forces that encourage individual parts to develop specific habits that guide our daily lives. It's like space holds a memory that tells us how to behave. And if you think you're being entirely rational in determining the most efficient path across that distance, human mobility science proves otherwise. Recent empirical findings demonstrate that pedestrians and vehicle drivers consistently fail to follow mathematically optimal routes. Instead of calculating the shortest distance, our choices are heavily distorted by the subjective features of our surroundings. We are unconsciously biased by prominent landmarks, influenced by how regions are hierarchically organized in our minds, as we're pulled toward our goal. Our cognitive routing is actively hijacked and reshaped by the physical structure of the street network itself, alongside environmental variables like the presence of greenery, traffic volume, and noise. It seems we don't possess the total, isolated agency we imagine. When we step onto a street, into a subway car, or into a vehicle, we enter spaces where private autonomy and collective systems intricately intertwine. The freedom we feel when moving is a distributed property, bound up in whether our individual cellular collectives can harmoniously interface with the larger socio-technical system of the city. Road networks may promise ultimate individual autonomy, yet their uncoordinated use inevitably collapses into the shared immobility of gridlock — a collective consequence born of uncoordinated individual choices. The “carsons” of Los Angeles, encased in their hermetically sealed exoskeletons, represent a shift in the morphology of higher-order urban organism. Drivers choose to wall themselves off in private vehicles…or vacuoles — tiny fluid-filled compartments inside a cell. “Carsons” glide along asphalt pathways originally demanded and paved by nineteenth-century wheelmen whose bi-cycles gave way to quad-cycles from which automobiles emerged. Whether drifting through the subterranean capillaries of the Interborough Rapid Transit or the resurrected neural pathways of the Pacific Electric, we are constantly transitioning across nested scales of kind of collective intelligence.Across generations, our preferences are encoded early by our environments, yet human practice remains remarkably adaptable. We are all capable of shifting habits when embedded in new spatial layouts. Ultimately, we are not isolated travelers making independent choices in a static world. We are interlocking parts of a grand, multi-generational biology. The vast superstructures we craft — from the subterranean capillaries of the subway to the asphalt arteries of the freeway — are not separate from nature, but act as an extended phenotype of our species. Over generations, in New York and LA, a co-engineered metabolic network surrounds us and shapes us. We are biological superstructures within living human-made superstructures generated through encoded scripts. Divided by a vast continent and a century of divergent design, New York and Los Angeles appear to share almost nothing in common — one a dense, vertical labyrinth of concrete and shadow, the other a sun-bleached, horizontal expanse of asphalt and sky. Yet, look past the geometry of the infrastructure, and the human ecology within them is identical. One day I was navigating the deep subterranean shafts of Manhattan the next I was tracking the sweeping curves of a California freeway. In both cases I was embedded inside different machinery but driven by the exact same instincts and societal pulses that drive urban mobility. Across differing geographies and distant time zones, the human element remains constant. Together we, and our cities, evolve to sustain and channel the collective currents of humanity crossing space and time, like individual cells using subtle electrical signals to coordinate movements that ultimately flow together into complex, living shapes we call humans. Step into Episode 214 of On The Delo as Delo sits down with Jeremiah, Air Force veteran, mortgage broker, and multi-unit franchisee of Jeremiah's Italian Ice, for a candid conversation about building multiple businesses, staying grounded through discipline, and why family-focused frozen treats are a surprisingly powerful vehicle for entrepreneurship. From opening his first location next to Corona del Sol High School in Chandler to expanding with a drive-through near Cardinal Stadium in Glendale, Jeremiah brings real talk on what it takes to run two companies at once without letting either one fall apart. The conversation covers Jeremiah's remarkable origin story — born in Guyana, raised in Brooklyn, trained as an Air Force veteran, and pivoting from aviation to mortgages to franchising — and why he's never once thought about retiring. Delo and Jeremiah go deep on the parallels between brokering mortgages and brokering insurance, the importance of systems and high-trust relationships with your team, and why "autopilot culture" is the fastest route to a failing business. You'll also hear about Delo's new book Risky Business: The Arizona Liquor Liability and Insurance Survival Guide, the power of waking up at 4:35 AM, the joy of watching anxious teenagers build confidence scooping gelati, and why authentic person-to-person connection beats transactional business every single time.Chapter Guide (Timestamps):(0:00 - 1:26) Welcome, Delo's New Book Risky Business & Intro to Jeremiah(1:27 - 3:50) Queen Creek Growth, Arizona Roots & Origin Story(3:51 - 5:57) From Guyana to Brooklyn to the Air Force & Valley Living(5:58 - 8:12) Mortgage Brokering, Desert State Mortgage & The Broker Parallel(8:13 - 11:26) Discovering Jeremiah's Italian Ice & Opening the First Chandler Location(11:27 - 14:22) Youth Employment, Anxiety, Confidence Building & The Value of In-Person Work(14:23 - 17:07) The Jeremiah's Brand Story: Florida Roots, First Franchise in Arizona & 200 Locations(17:08 - 20:57) Family-Focused Model, Gelati, Drive-Throughs & What Makes Italian Ice Different(20:58 - 24:06) Managing Two Businesses, Daily Routine & Building a High-Trust Team(24:07 - 28:20) Health, Fitness, Prayer & Serving Mom: Staying Grounded Across It All(28:21 - 31:41) Franchising Advice: Know the Day-to-Day, Systems, and Work Ethic Required(31:47 - 38:38) Rapid Fire: Aliens, Tacos, Pull-Ups, AC/DC & Cheesecake Italian Ice
In a day when a majority of professing Christians have been lulled into an ignorance of the content of God's Word and fail to recognize the resurrection of Christ as a reality and fact of history, it is necessary to examine the evidence and reach a verdict: either the Resurrection is a reality and Christ is risen, or our faith is in vain. Send us fan responses! Your life doesn't shift when you get “lucky” it shifts when your beliefs, words, and daily choices finally line up. I'm in Glendale with Bueli N'jheri, and we go deep on what manifestation looks like when you stop keeping it vague and start treating it like a practice you can measure. We connect quantum physics manifestation to real human wiring: neuroscience, negativity bias, and the way self-talk quietly sets your limits. Bueli breaks down why specificity matters (“get definite with the infinite”), why “want” and “try” can keep you stuck in lack, and how creation can be an act of worship. We also get honest about momentum: if you can't handle what you have now, more attention, more money, and more responsibility won't feel like a blessing, it'll feel like pressure. Then we bring it to the real world: privacy, trust structures, and why so many people get burned copying “game” without understanding the rules. We talk about how benefits traps and identity labels (fixed income, section eight, even fear of leveling up) can cause self-sabotage, and why learning to receive is part of building prosperity. You'll also hear about Bueli's books The Quanta and The Quanta 2.0, plus the audiobook created for the blind community.Tap in, share this with someone who's ready to upgrade their mindset and their systems, and leave a review if you want more conversations that bridge spirituality, strategy, and financial literacy#donkilam #privatelife #quantamhttps://donkilam.com FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD - DON KILAMGO GET HIS BOOK ON AMAZON NOW! https://www.amazon.com/Cant-Touch-This-Diplomatic-Immunity/dp/B09X1FXMNQ https://open.spotify.com/track/5QOUWyNahqcWvQ4WQAvwjj?autoplay=trueSupport the showhttps://donkilam.com
Many have sought to disprove the resurrection of Jesus Christ and were overwhelmed after examining the evidence within the biblical records. Whether you're a believer or a curious skeptic, examining the empty tomb is a place to start. At the core of Christianity is the resurrected Christ. This message focuses on the resurrection of Christ as told in the Gospel of Mark and it's curiously short ending. Women in that day were not considered adequate witnesses and yet Mary Magdalene and other women were the first eyewitnesses to the empty tomb. Their report does not suggest a conspiracy to lie but an honest telling of what they saw. The beginning of a series for the sake of two people who are dear friends but far from the knowledge of God. Bad experiences with the church at large or a "brand" of Christianity cause many to be turned off on the church. There is corruption in all of humanity, so we should not ignore God because of that. A look at the church history surrounding Easter and at the traditions of men becoming dogma show why we should not simply trust the institution, but we can still trust God. If the Resurrection of Christ really happened, it is the most important event in history. Those who are skeptical and think there are too many discrepancies in the accounts should take a closer look. There are common denominators to all of the accounts and many witnesses in the gospel records. Each writer's focus is different, so the differences in the details are not as inconsistent as they first seem. The evidence for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ cannot be ignored and if you look at it honestly it is life-changing. The earliest teachings of the Resurrection were from eyewitnesses of a factual event, not emotive feelings. Some of the most convincing evidence comes from the Apostle Paul, who had no reason to tell this story if it was not true. The disciples were changed by the Resurrection, and they were willing to die for preaching it. In seeking the truth that is revealed in Jesus Christ, God creates famine to give us opportunities of faith and opportunities of failure. Just like Abram, we often choose to leave the place that God has called us to because we focus on the seen circumstance of famine rather than trusting God and relying upon His word of promise. Instead of chastising us for getting off track, God uses our mistakes and missteps to lead us back to where we started: the place of sacrifice. After 21 years of ministry, Pastor Scott reflects on her calling and the lessons that have left an imprint on her soul. One of which is the blessing of being called by God and being struck by a famine: the famine of feeling completely inadequate to answer God's call, and the challenges that He gives for ever-increasing faith. These are God's way of testing us to see if we will rely on Him to guide us in the way in which we should go. The book of Isaiah has ample archaeological evidence to support its authenticity and history corroborates many of its prophecies. Isaiah was a different type of prophet. God told him to prophesy against Judah and other nations for their sins, but He also told him they would not listen. Isaiah's prophecies were fulfilled in his lifetime, after his death and some are still yet to come. Most importantly, the book contains many Messianic prophecies, all of which point to Christ. The prophet Amos speaks of God's judgment against the northern kingdom of Israel. God spelled out their sins in great detail and warned them that their punishment was coming quickly. History shows us that God kept His word. While there is very little hope in the book of Amos, there is a promise that in a future time, the scattered people of Israel will be brought back and Christ will dwell in their midst. God told the prophet Hosea to marry a whore to symbolize the spiritual infidelity of Israel. In their prosperity, the people had failed to give God thanks and had worshiped idols. Through the prophet, God tells what will be done to the Edomites, who scoffed at His people and did not value the things of God.
