Jim Norton and Matt Serra are joined by two fighters preparing for next weekend's Noche UFC card in Glendale, Arizona.First, 15th-ranked featherweight Jose Miguel Delgado joins the show after finding out he'll be stepping in for Yair Rodriguez to face Jean Silva in the Noche UFC main event. Having fully embraced his role as the underdog in this short-notice opportunity, the 28-year-old Arizona native out of MMA Lab identifies the ways his team has been able to replicate Silva's fighting style and in-Octagon antics.Between interviews, Jim and Matt react to Song Yadong's massive knockout win over Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC Shanghai — from the perfectly timed right hand that punished Umar's level change to the controversial reaction from Nurmagomedov's corner in the immediate aftermath. Then, 13th-ranked flyweight Tim Elliott stops by ahead of his featured prelim matchup against Edgar Chairez at Noche UFC. Elliott reflects on his wrestling roots behind his trademark “awkward” style, the longevity that still has him ranked in the Top 15 at 39 years old, and how his approach to accepting fights have put him in a position to accumulate UFC flyweight records that place him alongside (and in some categories ahead of) Demetrious Johnson. After the second interview, Jim and Matt go deeper on their other biggest UFC Shanghai takeaways before wrapping up with a look ahead to tomorrow's DWCS card.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Just as God created all things, He has reconciled all things to Himself. That doesn't mean that all will be saved, but rather that Christ's sacrifice at the cross made peace, making it possible for us to become friends of God instead of enemies. From that moment on, a change began to occur in those who hear and respond. This change is not merely a disposition of an individual, nor their legal relationship to God, but a total state of his or her life! Top federal prosecutors from the Four Corner states are descending upon the Phoenix metro this week as part of an annual conference meant to tackle crime and justice in Indian Country. KJZZ's Gabriel Pietrorazio has details. A hotel room full of victim advocates, attorneys, and tribal law enforcement personnel congregate in Glendale. Arizona's top prosecutor, U.S. Attorney Timothy Courchaine, reminds them why they are all meeting. “It may sound like priorities are elsewhere in this administration, but all of the U.S. attorneys up here and every member of leadership in the Department of Justice will tell you: Indian Country is always a priority.” From Phoenix and Albuquerque to Denver and Salt Lake City, Courchaine stresses they are all on the same team. “If you work with a rural tribe, whether it's in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico or Arizona, it might feel like you are at the ends of the earth.” Three cubs belonging to Osso in the Anan Wildlife Observatory at Tongass National Forest. (Courtesy U.S. Forest Service / Facebook) A major logging project planned for Alaska's Tongass National Forest is raising concerns about potential impacts to subsistence resources. The U.S. Forest Service acknowledges the project could affect deer harvests relied on by communities in Southeast Alaska, where the Tongass has long supported Alaska Native cultural and subsistence practices. Conservationists are now pushing back against plans to log thousands of acres of old-growth forest, as Mark Moran reports. Conservationists are pushing back on a massive old growth logging plan by the Forest Service that would carve new roads through thousands of acres of Alaska’s Tongass National Forest. The agency says it will revitalize the logging industry and improve habitat and ecosystems for native species. The Revilla Integrated Research Project aims to log 4,000 acres of old growth trees in the Tongass near Ketchikan, harvest 83 million board feet of timber, and build more than 40 miles of roadway. Southeast Alaska Conservation Council’s Nathan Newcomber says the development plan threatens the habitat of a number of animals. He says even the Forest Service has acknowledged the risk. “Deer, bears, wolves, birds like the Queen Charlie Goshawk. They also state that they acknowledge the significant likelihood of impact to subsistence, including on deer harvest.” There were at least 120 objections to the plan during a public comment period, but the Forest Service says it intends to begin the work and address legal challenges later. Southeast Alaska has been transitioning away from clear cutting old tree stands in favor of what’s known as young growth logging, which Newcomber and other environmental advocates support, even though the practice now comprises only about one percent of the region’s economy. “To go back to this bygone era from the 1970s where you just clear-cut landscapes, it makes absolutely no sense. Nobody supports it apart from extractive industry and politicians. But local communities in Southeast Alaska, they wanna protect what we have. It’s our cultural way of life. It’s the way that people live up here.” Southeast Alaska is also highly dependent on tourism to support local economies. Driven largely by cruise ship traffic, the region sees as many as two million visitors a year, according to Alaska’s Southeast Conference. Confederate Brig. Gen. William L.. Cabell, left, and Union Col. William F. Cloud led troops during the skirmish. And on this day in 1863, fighting broke out near Camp Pike in the Choctaw Nation, in what is now Oklahoma. The skirmish came during the Civil War, when Indian Territory became a battleground involving Union and Confederate forces. Camp Pike had been used by Confederate troops following the Battle of Honey Springs, one of the war's largest battles in Indian Territory. Get National Native News delivered to your inbox daily. A Rosie On The House Replay w/ Jenny BeasleyJenny Beasley of Heart for the City shares how a barren dirt lot in Glendale, Arizona, became a thriving community garden serving families, schools, volunteers, and gardeners from eight different cultures. She explains how partnerships, raised beds, shared food, and educational programs helped transform the space into much more than a place to grow vegetables. The conversation explores how community gardens create belonging, purpose, friendships, healthier neighborhoods, and stronger connections between people. Jenny also offers practical advice for anyone interested in starting a community garden of their own. Key Topics & EntitiesHeart for the City GardenJenny BeasleyCommunity gardensGlendale, ArizonaRaised garden bedsCommunity partnershipsCity of GlendaleSchool garden partnershipsEight different culturesCucuzza squashUrban gardening in the desertGardening educationFood accessCommunity buildingKey Questions AnsweredHow did Heart for the City Garden begin?Jenny Beasley was challenged to transform a barren, partly asphalt-covered dirt lot into a community garden. The City of Glendale provided the property, while a community development grant helped fund the initial development. What made the raised beds such a game changer? The raised beds gave individual families and gardeners a sense of ownership. They also allowed people from different cultures to grow vegetables they remembered from childhood or from their home countries. How does the garden bring different cultures together?Gardeners from places including Jordan, Trinidad, China, Mexico, Hungary, and Peru grow alongside one another, sharing vegetables, recipes, gardening knowledge, and traditions. What is the biggest lesson Jenny learned about building community?People want to feel connected and be part of something. Growing side by side gives people a natural way to participate, contribute, and build relationships. How can someone begin creating a community garden?First determine what type of community garden you want to create, then visit and learn from gardens with similar goals. Jenny says learning from people who have already developed successful gardens can save enormous amounts of time. How does the garden operate in the Arizona heat?Heart for the City Garden grows year-round. During the hottest part of the year, peppers, okra, herbs, and other crops are growing, while tomatoes can be more challenging. How does the garden create purpose for people?Jenny describes a woman who unexpectedly retired and found purpose, friendships, activity, and a new routine through spending time at the garden. What happens beyond gardening at Heart for the City? The garden hosts cooking events, recipe sharing, educational activities, guest speakers, celebrations, and even weddings. Visitors may leave with seeds, plants, or planting calendars. How does the surrounding neighborhood participate?Neighbors walk to the garden with their children, donate gardening supplies, volunteer, and help one another. The garden has become a close-knit neighborhood resource rather than simply a place to grow food. What does Jenny consider the garden's greatest accomplishment? She is most proud of how the gardeners connect, help one another, care for their garden spaces, celebrate life's milestones, and continue learning. As another gardener put it, they are “growing people also.” Episode HighlightsA barren dirt lot becomes a thriving community garden and food forest over roughly 12 years. Raised beds become a “game changer,” giving families ownership and encouraging participation from multiple cultures. Partnerships with the City of Glendale, schools, businesses, and volunteers help sustain the garden. The garden's cucuzza squash inspires a club, a giant trellis, shared recipes, and plenty of fun. Gardeners support one another with rides, meals, home check-ins, and friendship—creating what Jenny calls a “big garden family.” Cooking and food-sharing events help people learn what to do with the vegetables they grow. The garden welcomes people from throughout the area who want to learn about gardening or simply connect with others. Jenny's central message: community gardens don't just grow vegetables—they grow people and relationships. Continuing the excursion on angels, it is clear that there are many references to angels through the Scriptures. The elect, un-fallen angels that remain holy and dedicated to God carry out His will, deliver messages, and give guidance and help to humans as His representatives. The evil, fallen angels report to the god of this world, satan, and bring twisted messages designed to derail us from the path of faith. It is important to recognize the reality of these two forces at work, and to put on the whole armor of God to defend and protect ourselves against these opposing, unseen forces. As background to the teaching Paul had to do to counter the false doctrine of angel worship, we can look to the Scriptures, especially the Pentateuch, to make sure we understand the nature and role of angels. There are different categories of sometimes seen and sometimes unseen created beings who carry out assignments from God, and some references to "the angel of the Lord" are actually a manifestation of God Himself. Ultimately, whether they are good or evil angels, they are not to be worshiped: we are to be followers of Christ. This week, we are officially "Tint Boys" broadcasting straight from a transformed warehouse in Glendale, California, for the global Tinter Battles window tinting championships. We immerse ourselves into the intense, WWE-style subculture of competitive window tinting, complete with pre-competition online trash-talking, NASCAR-style matching team jerseys, and heavyweight champion belts. We hit the competition floor to interview Cody from Tex Window Tinting about his mid-competition broken squeegee, lending his toolbelt to a friend whose luggage was lost, and his high-tech "Tint Buster" backpack. We also catch up with Carlos, the CEO of Tinter Battles, who explains how he combined his musical performance background with his tinting career to give these hardworking professionals the rockstar platform they deserve. After watching the intense flat glass and Paint Protective Film (PPF) heats, we officially give ourselves tinting nicknames: "Squeege.E" and "Mikey No Bubbles," and definitively declare that window tinting is a sport that belongs on ESPN. Taking a break from the competition, we did some LA exploring, starting with a trip to Ace Hardware for the last pack of Pokémon cards before finally experiencing the famous grocery store, Erewhon. Despite expecting $20 grapes, we were surprised to find the produce prices pretty normal—though the $165 branded hoodies and $100 lotions definitely lived up to the hype. After consulting with the in-store sommelier for some wine, we proudly embraced our new status as "Erewhon girlies". Later, we retreated to the hotel to order some Panda Express and had a gaming session where Mike quickly grasped the mechanics of Fortnite, even while Erin got targeted and eliminated twice in a single round. To round out our West Coast trip, we engaged in some "business business" by visiting the studio of the GroupChat podcast. We recap the incredibly pristine bathrooms and share what it was like to sit in and watch the two brothers record their tech and finance show. While Erin felt a little out of her depth listening to the highly educated business banter, we loved getting a behind-the-scenes look at how another successful podcast operates.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is optimistic for this season. “I'm even more excited today than I was when we started camp, that our team is going to be one that, if we can have some things go right for us, avoid some injury. We could really be something.” Among those fighting to make the Cowboys' roster is undrafted free agent Shiyazh Pete, who is believed to be the first Navajo player to sign an NFL contract. “I was quite, quite a specimen. I mean, really, didn't really have no one to kind of relate to in terms of height. I've always been asked questions of, you know, how tall are you? How's the weather up there?” Originally from Montana, the 6-foot-8 300-pound offensive lineman went to Shiprock High School on the Navajo Nation. He then walked on at New Mexico State University before transferring to the University of Kentucky, eventually signing with the Cowboys this spring. “It's a great honor – to put on the star is again surreal. But again, I have to earn that star. I wouldn't say I'm an official Cowboy yet.” But Pete has that chance to prove he belongs on “America's Team”. Fresh from D23 in Anaheim, Jim Hill and Lauren Hersey unpack what it was really like to shop the show floor, from virtual queues and coveted merchandise to fans finding creative ways around the reservation system. Lauren shares what surprised her about D23 Day at Disneyland, the new Imagineering apparel collection, and Disney's increasingly social-media-driven activations. Then Jim and Lauren turn to legendary Imagineer Joe Rohde and his new book, Floating Mountains: The Art of Imagining the Impossible, including how Rohde's work connects the Adventurers Club to Disney's later Living Character Initiative. NEWS • D23 Day at Disneyland brings massive merchandise lines, exclusive releases, and the Hatbox Ghost popcorn bucket frenzy. • Disney's D23 shopping system puts fans up against limited virtual queues for the Marketplace, Mickey's of Glendale, the Company Store, and other high-demand locations. • Lauren explains how some attendees gamed shopping reservations, paid others to hold places in line, and bought merchandise in bulk. • Disney+ and Hulu lean heavily into photo activations and social sharing across the D23 show floor. • The new Walt Disney Imagineering apparel collection turns out to be understated clothing designed by Imagineers for Imagineers - with a very unusual mobile-order shopping process. FEATURE • Jim and Lauren discuss Joe Rohde's Floating Mountains: The Art of Imagining the Impossible and what sets it apart from a traditional Disney memoir. • Rohde offers a behind-the-scenes look at Imagineering's creative process, leadership style, and the development of experiences such as the Adventurers Club. • Jim traces the roots of Disney's interactive “living characters” from the Adventurers Club back to an unusual talking vulture once installed inside Disneyland's Club 33. The first half of Colossians 1:15 declares that Christ is the image or "icon" of the invisible God.  The heretical idea that Christ was merely like God and not of the same substance crept into the early church, and even today some believe Christ is only a created being. Paul makes it clear to the Colossians: Christ is the likeness and incarnate revelation of God to humankind. This week on BETWEEN THE NOTES, Paisan Kapitan brings together two fascinating Armenian men from completely different worlds: acclaimed writer, artist, playwright and performer VAHE BERBERIAN and successful entrepreneur GEVORK “GEORGE” SUKUNYAN. Vahe opens up about growing up in Beirut, discovering that humor could be his greatest defense, his life as a storyteller, and the health crisis that changed everything. After battling cancer and undergoing 14 surgeries in five years, Vahe found an escape through writing — including the story that would eventually become LETTERS FROM ZAATAR. Then the conversation takes a very unexpected turn. Vahe is a self-proclaimed atheist who was actually raised in a deeply Christian home and, as a child, was expected to become a priest. He explains the experiences that eventually caused him to question the existence of God. Paisan, a man of strong Christian faith, respectfully challenges his perspective and shares why his own journey led him to believe exactly the opposite. It's honest. At times uncomfortable. But never disrespectful. Then Gevork “George” Sukunyan joins the conversation with an entirely different story. George came to America from Armenia at just 12 years old, left high school early and eventually turned a business that started with a single truck into a major exotic automobile transportation company moving thousands of vehicles every year. George also talks about family, entrepreneurship, The Reserve LA, his passion for giving back to the Armenian community — and why, despite all his success in business, one of his happiest places is still behind a grill cooking for the people he loves. Two completely different men. Two remarkable lives. And one conversation that goes places none of them expected. There are laughs, serious moments, disagreements, great stories and, in true BETWEEN THE NOTES fashion, Paisan closes the show by praying over both of his guests — including the atheist. This is BETWEEN THE NOTES. We Believe: Membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: A Christian Conversation by Phillip M Graehl Phillipmgraehlbooks.com https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GPGL17P3 If Jesus Christ is to all people our Good Shepherd and his gospel is the good news, why is there so much contentious debate in the world over all this goodness? Why is there such derision cast between religious bodies and their adherents toward others of differing beliefs? The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and its members have been persecuted since the founding of the Church, and its members often called non-Christian. Is this really true? There are many truths about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints that invite discussion. There are also many fallacies and misunderstandings regarding the Church that deserve exposure and explanation. Herein is described to the traditional Christian world and all others who will inquire some history as well as doctrines and practices of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, given in an attempt to help bridge a divide that need not exist between disciples of Jesus Christ. “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” About the author I am a “mid-boomer” having been born in 1955, in Provo, Utah. The first few years of my life were spent in Fort Collins, Colorado where my father attended veterinary school, alternating with summers in Provo which was my father's home town. Over a two year period I lived in Bend, Oregon; Salt Lake City, Utah; and then Glendale, California. Grades K – 3 were in Glendale, and then we moved to Huntington Beach, California. While in Huntington Beach I enjoyed bodysurfing and surfing as well as outdoor sports in general including backpacking and skiing. I also played high school football, basketball, and baseball. I attended college at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and graduated with a bachelor's of science degree in Geology. One summer in college I worked on the North Slope of Alaska for a geophysical company. The summer after college graduation I worked in Uranium exploration in northern Idaho and northeastern Washington. I attended medical school for two years at the University of Utah and completed medical school at the University of California, Irvine. My post graduate training was in orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. Prior to completing my training in San Antonio I met and married my wife of the last forty years. My wife is also a physician. Fellowship training in lower extremity total joint replacement and sports medicine occurred in San Antonio, Texas and then Sydney, Australia. My first orthopedic practice was in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Then after two years I immigrated to Texas where I practiced for another thirty years in the northern suburbs of Dallas, Texas. I continue to enjoy outdoor sports, fishing, and I am an admirer of Western art of the United States. After two total hip replacements I have abandoned skiing, but I continue to enjoy hiking in the Rocky Mountains of the United States. I have also found that I enjoy writing. Following my retirement I enrolled at the University of Texas at Dallas and began with a creative writing class. Thereafter, the Covid pandemic caused an acute cessation of my post-post-graduate education.

We go back to that day, what the last twelve months have looked like, and — once again — a thank you to the first responders and everyone else who got him through it. Aquarium Drunkard - SIDECAR (TRANSMISSIONS) - Podcast

Describing the sound of Sacred Harp singing can be difficult. Arcane, otherworldly, and overwhelming, it's a unique a cappella form of shape note Christian hymn singing that was born in England in the 18th century, but took root in the American south. It's not something you listen to so much something as experience.  This week on Transmissions, host Jason P. Woodbury speaks with Matt Hinton. Along with his wife, Erica Hinton, he's the director of the 2006 documentary Awake, My Soul: The Story of The Sacred Harp; in 2025, the duo returned to the film, remastering it and crafting a full update. This month, the film is screening in the Los Angeles area, including showings in Glendale, and Santa Monica, at the Laemmle Glendale, Laemmle Royal, and the Monica Film Center.  Sacred Harp utilizes a  shape note system, in which shapes—triangles, circles, squares, and diamonds—are paired with syllables—fa, sol, la, and mi—to represent the notes in the traditional scale. Awake, My Soul explores the culture that centers around this form of communal worship, and invites viewers into this strange musical world.  In addition to his work as a documentarian, Matt Hinton is a musician himself. He's a member of the rock band Luxury, which features three Orthodox priests. He made a film about that group too, the 2019 movie Parallel Love: The Story of a Band Called Luxury.  Though the soundtrack for Awake, My Soul, as well as a companion disc, Help Me to Sing: Songs of the Sacred Harp, featuring John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, Danielson, Richard Buckner, The Innocence Mission, author Rick Moody, and more, have long been out of print, they returned to streaming last month as the film celebrates its 20th anniversary. Hannah is an example to all of God's children of how to act in a dark time.  In her barrenness she made a vow to God, and she kept it instead of making excuses.  She earnestly prayed to the Lord and faithed to see Him answer her prayer.  Our prayers are heard by the Lord; keep praying for the future of this ministry and those things that will bring Him glory.  Our prayers have an effect, and God will make His will come to pass. God's motherly love shines through in a bleak passage directed against the hypocritical scribes and Pharisees. Knowing what the word of God said, they were unable to apply it to themselves or hear the call of God. God is still calling, as a mother hen, to bring comfort to the comfortless that will run to the voice of the sayer. This is a Mother's Day message lifting up those who might not have been in a celebratory mood.  The downcast soul of Psalms 42 & 43 is addressed.  The causes include absence from God's presence, the self and outside forces as enemies, memories of a better day, being overwhelmed by life, and feeling forgotten by God.  The cure is to "Put Hope! in God for yet will I praise Him!"
