Martha, the head nurse, was looking to apply major changes in the hospital to improve productivity and she decided to ask every stakeholder of the staff on their opinion. Almost every job interview includes the question: What are your strengths and weaknesses?" In this episode of the NEWLY re-branded podcast (formerly the Communication Diva podcast) Careers by Jenn, I take a look first at how you can do a self-assessment of your strengths, in order to generate a list to work with. I also invite you to invite others into your research, and offer ways you can do that that are both free and paid. Goal-setting is something I think everyone should do, and surprisingly, lots of people actually don't. (I'm not talking about New Year's resolution-style either...I mean goals of every kind for all sorts of areas of your life.) When you do get around to actually setting a goal..what happens next? Often, the goals are "derailed" by our own mistakes. In this episode, I walk you through 7 mistakes that commonly appear when you decide to do something…when you set a goal, whether it’s a career goal, a personal goal, a dietary or financial goal…a relationship goal…whatever it is…these are some of the mistakes that get made that end up derailing the goal so it doesn't happen…which is sad! When you submit a job application, you could be up against hundreds or even thousands of others. It’s hard to stand out in the crowd, but there are things you can do to improve your chances of getting an interview. This week’s guest expert is Jenn Swanson. Jenn reminded us of simple mistakes that can sink your job application: if you missed key details, didn’t follow instructions, or submitted your attachments in the wrong format.
