Because I get my Feldenkrais liability insurance through a massage therapy umbrella, they send me Massage Therapy Journal, which I read, even though I am not a massage therapist. I figure I might learn something. What the heck? In the issue I just finished, they talked a lot about how to avoid burnout and take care of one's self at work. Much of the content involved identifying one's top strengths and leaning into them. Now, about a decade ago, I got really into the Strengths Movement which was focused on a similar idea. I thought it was interesting for both work and education. I identified stuff I was good at and figured out how to lean in to those things. Then I promptly forgot about it and now I can't even tell you what I determined my strengths were back then. The burnout article suggested using the VIA strength finder to determine your top five strengths and values. This sounded familiar to me. I thought I probably had taken this test before so I searched for it on my computer. Yes, yes, I had – about a year ago. And I found that my top five strengths were: Humor, Perceptiveness, Creativity, Social Intelligence and Love of Learning. Spiritual Vigor is highly depending on having a purpose in life Purpose is fueled by aligning passions with values Passionate work is the result of leveraging our unique talents and leading strengths. We've all heard the term "play to your strengths," right? It may seem obvious, but what does that actually mean? Well, let's take a look at that. Talents, Strengths, and Skills Talents - Natural ability that can be nurtured and grown, dependent on an individuals God-given capacity for it. Strengths - "soft" abilities (character traits/tendencies) that are universally present in all people, but uniquely leveraged Skills - Ability that can be cultivated, practiced, and leveraged by anyone regardless of experience or natural talent. In order to determine your leading or "Signature" Strengths, I highly encourage you to go to: https://www.viacharacter.org/survey/account/register ...for a free ~10min assessment designed to identify your unique values-leveraging tendencies. feel free to post your findings to the Facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/GMQpodcast
One of the big things that we talk and teach about is strengths. Specifically, we help people identify their Signature Strengths. There are a lot of people that seem to minimize the importance of identifying and understanding their strengths, but it really is one of the most important pieces to find or create your ideal career. Today, we’re sharing a conversation with Kirby Verceles. Kirby has been through several career transitions, but it made a huge difference in her life and in her career once she identified her Signature Strengths. Allison was on the How to Become a Career Coach podcast about two months ago. She shared a lot about her journey to become a career coach, which started by going through our Career Change Bootcamp (CCB) program, where she identified that career coaching was her direction. Soon after identifying this, she enrolled in our Professional Career Coach Training and Certification program, targeting to finish in September 2019. She was all set for having herself setup for her coaching career business. It was then a few months later when she came on the podcast and shared her journey. But, then, a week later, Allison had an emotional breakdown. She started to feel overwhelmed by the thought that "everyone" is becoming a career coach, so how would she distinguish herself from all the others. This is a real problem for anyone starting a business, especially a service-based business like career coaching. How do you differentiate yourself? What is your Unique Selling Proposition? Why would someone choose to work with you instead of _____? Allison soon had a breakthrough when she began going back over her training for CCB. In CCB, you go through exercises to identify what it is you really want and who you want to work with/for. You also identify your Signature Strengths. Going through and reviewing these exercise with the lens of career coaching gave her the perspective she needed to identify her niche - how she would stand out in the sea of career coaches. Allison shares this new breakthrough on the HBCC podcast today, so listen to hear the details of how she went through this. So, if you're thinking about becoming a career coach, the Professional Career Coach Training and Certification program will help you: Know how to work with a large variety of people in nearly any industry to help them identify their own ideal career. Understand a process and a framework to lead any client through nearly any situation OR when to help them get additional resources Have everything you need to get your first clients or get a role with a company you want to work with. Also, if you enroll in PCC you get access to all the CCB modules that Allison did, too. So you'll have even more resources to help you dig deeper and make your career coaching foundation even stronger and give you more clarity. Enrollment closes on Monday, February 3, but you need to talk with Phillip first to make sure that this is the right fit for you right now. Schedule a conversation now so you don't miss the deadline!
Do you have a solid understanding of your Signature Strengths? No? That’s OK. Judith didn’t understand hers completely either. She had enrolled in our CCB program and was working through the assessment and exercises to figure out and uncover her strengths. Even after doing a lot of that work, she still felt like there was something missing. Judith wanted to really get to the nitty gritty of her Signature Strengths. So here is a conversation with her to help her walk through her strengths and dig even deeper. Want to get a free cup of coffee on us? You know it’s coming, but it still freezes you in your tracks like a deer in the headlights. Maybe it’s right after you sit down in the visitor’s chair, across the desk from the interviewer. Or maybe it’s ten or fifteen minutes into your conversation- just when you start to think you might escape this time. But then it hits you. The interviewer flips through your file, folds her hands on top of her desk, looks at you expectantly and says the words that strike fear in the hearts of every job-seeker: “So…tell me about yourself.” We’ve put this 6 part audio course together as a guide to using your strengths to make a career pivot to work that makes you more happy more often. What the heck are Signature Strengths? We’ve talked about how your signature strengths aren’t just skills like, “I’m really good with Excel.” There’s more to it: It’s that intersection of things you’re really, really good at with things you really, really love — combined with your experiences, disposition, and a few shakes of both nature and nurture. “Signature Strengths are your unique combination of experiences, skills, knowledge and even the way you’re wired. It’s the stuff that makes you, you.” Often when you drill down to your signature strengths, these are the things you can’t stop doing if you tried, you can’t help it. Many times they come easy to you because you enjoy them and also you don’t recognize them because you don’t think that they’re that big of a deal. We’ve put this 6 part audio course together as a guide to using your strengths to make a career pivot to work that makes you more happy more often. MOST PEOPLE THINK THAT THEY KNOW THEIR STRENGTHS… I hear them say things like “I learn fast” or “I’m good with people” but most people have not spent enough time or effort to truly understand what it is that they are great at or have the potential to be great at! Maybe these are true, but these aren’t specific enough to really be what you are great at. What is it that makes you great with people, What is it specifically that you enjoy in the interaction with others, is it even the interaction at all, or maybe something else. When I hear something as vague as “I’m good with people”, which I do in maybe 7 out of every 10 interviews with professionals, I immediately try to start digging to understand what they really actually mean. It could be that they are great at: relating to others OR communicating with people OR helping people problem solve OR building relationships quickly OR about a million other possibilities. What on earth do you really mean? By the way, if you want to get this sent straight to your email box to you can always go to FigureItOut.co and drop in your email address. And that will get sent right to your email box. Or you can text HAPPEN to 44222 and you get the exact same thing.

Childhood reflections are a tool for leading yourself first. In this podcast, Dr. Karen reflects on some of her childhood gifts, talents, and interests and how they show up in her life and leadership today. She invites you and your team to also take the journey. The post Reclaim Your Signature Strengths from Childhood first appeared on TRANSLEADERSHIP, INC®.
Episode #36: Signature Strengths Money was invented to reflect the value of the relationships and exchanges we have with each other. There is no inherent value in a piece of paper or a shiny stone. Their only value is the collective fictional one we agree to give them. The ability of individuals and organizations to create value and carry out transactions across borders is accelerating. Money has become more than a static unit of value. The way we buy, sell and pay for things is changing. The transactional friction inherent in banks, currency exchanges and other financial institutions will be eliminated in this emerging global economy. The authenticity and emotional intelligence we and our company demonstrate in the service of others will determine the value of our relationships and exchanges. Whether reflected in paper, digital or programmable currencies this is our true source of wealth. Thanks so much for listening! Careers by Jenn Podcast: Get the Job, Love Your Work, Advance Your Career
Almost every job interview includes the question: What are your strengths and weaknesses?" In this episode of the NEWLY re-branded podcast (formerly the Communication Diva podcast) Careers by Jenn, I take a look first at how you can do a self-assessment of your strengths, in order to generate a list to work with. I also invite you to invite others into your research, and offer ways you can do that that are both free and paid. With good questions and with fresh perspectives, you should be able to create a fairly good-sized list by the time you get through all the questions, and from that list, generate your SIGNATURE strengths, to help you stand out above the crowd.
If we really want to thrive in life - be it at work, in our personal relationships, with our well-being, in sports ... anything worth doing - then we should be focusing on our strengths just as much as our weaknesses (if not more). That's the overwhelming take home message from the science of character strengths. Today I speak with Dr. Ryan Niemiec about the science and application of character strengths. We'll uncover the best habits and practices of character strengths and discuss key insights.
Do you have the mental strength to overcome setbacks in your working, sporting, personal and family life? Do you give yourself enough credit for what you're good at and doing well? In this episode of Commit! the six-part podcast series accompanying the book of the same name, Ireland's leading performance coach, Enda McNulty, discusses the importance of mental strength and why everyone needs to be focusing on their signature strengths. 'Monitor your self-talk and make sure there's at least five positives to every one negative', he advises. 'Remind yourself always what is working well, what you're good at, and focus on that.' Commit! by Enda McNulty is available from Amazon and all good bookshops. To find out more, visit McNultyPerformance.com.

Find Your Dream Job: Insider Tips for Finding Work, Advancing your Career, and Loving Your Job
Do you know how to get a job you love? It’s OK if you don’t. Most people do not believe it is even possible. A traditional job search includes scouring job postings and identifying with skills an employer is looking for. Today’s conversation turns the table on tradition and encourages job seekers to first identify and then search for a job they will love. Guest, Scott Barlow uses putting a puzzle together as an analogy for identifying which type of job you will probably love. Signature Strengths are your inherent qualities which give you a natural and unfair advantage over another person. These strengths can be seen as the corner pieces of the puzzle as they are easy to recognize. Identifying these strengths is the first step in the process of finding a job you love. To assist you in figuring out what your strengths are, try: StrengthsFinder 2.0 Get Feedback from those who know you well enough to give you a truthful answer to the question “What do I do well?” The ideal work environment for you is a company which values the same things you do. Think about a workplace you would flourish in. These are the edge pieces of the puzzle, the framework of what you should be looking for when you search for a job. If you pre-identify the companies which closely match your ideal work environment, you can make contacts within the organizations before a job is posted online. You can place yourself first in line when a position becomes available. Go after the things you are great at and focus on the things you place the most value in! Scott Barlow Bio Scott Barlow is the founder of Happen to Your Career, a company that helps you stop doing work that doesn’t fit, figuring out what does fit and then teaching you to make it happen.
