Today on the Take on Board podcast, Helga is speaking to Kate Conneely about voluntary administration, what is it, what it can be used for, and why directors should consider it as part of their governance framework.Kate is a partner at KordaMentha and a registered liquidator. She bring over 13 years’ experience specialising in formal insolvency, restructuring and litigation strategy. In her role as Registered Liquidator, she, in effect, assumes the position of the board on each company to which she is appointed.Kate has a proven track record dealing with small enterprises through to large corporate groups, across a broad range of industries and restructuring scenarios, including playing a lead role in the Arrium administration. Most recently, Kate was appointed as Administrator of Equestrian Australia Limited. Appointment occurred in June 2020.Fun fact – or maybe not so fun fact: Kate is one of the 7.6% of women who are Registered Liquidators across Australia. Whilst Korda Mentha are punching above their weight on this – they have double the national average – this still only represents 16% of the Registered Liquidators there. She's also a member of the risk and compliance subcommittee. Kate is also the vice chair and Treasurer of marketing women incorporated Victoria, a small volunteer group who connect and educate marketing women.After more than 20 years in blue chip consumer service organizations including RACV and Wesfarmers Insurance, Kate consults as a Senior Marketing Manager and strategist. She helps for profits and not-for-profits to define marketing strategies and improve marketing performance. She also works one on one coaching and mentoring marketers at all levels. Music has always been a huge part of Kate Targett-Adams’ life. She started playing the Celtic harp as a child and it has been a lifelong passion. Cooking is also another passion of Kate’s and she made it to the finals of Master Chef when she was a young girl. Eventually, she had to chose between her love of music and cooking when deciding her career path. Music won over and Kate has excelled in her career as a singer, songwriter and harpist. She has many performed at many illustrious events, playing for dignitaries, celebrities and at international leaders across the globe. She is a celebrity in her own right, particularly in China where she sings many of her songs in Mandarin and wins the audience over with her ethereal voice, her talent, and her beauty. Kate has also established a company called Super Style Asia, where she teaches etiquette classes and personal branding to people from all walks of life. This all began when Kate was asked to teach etiquette to the Miss Universe China contestants. Kate has expanded her business into etiquette for any occasion and her aim is to help people embrace a “code for polite behavior” whilst she considers the cultural norms and traditions of the people she is working with. Kate also teaches Ceroc dance and has helped many people create their wedding dances or just have some fun with dance classes for all.
