In this episode, Sam Street interviews Matt Hobbs, CEO of the Motor Trades Association of Australia, about the Code of Conduct review. We start with getting an understanding of why the Code of Conduct review is being conducted with issues surrounding governance structures, sanctions and penalties, dispute resolutions, and unclear assessment times. Matt shares his experience in what caused delays in the review, the importance of liaising with the Australian Motor Body Repairers Association (AMBRA), and how industry and government have an invested interest in negotiating an outcome that improves the dispute resolution process. Matt also gives us an insight into how they will launch this review, the feedback process that it will undergo, and how they will find a suitable and truly independent reviewer. We wrap up by discussing concerns surrounding insurance mergers and the dominance of large insurers leading to a lack of competition. In this episode of The Food Professor Podcast, we welcome Karen Proud, the inaugural President and Adjudicator of the newly established Office of the Grocery Sector Code of Conduct (OGSCC). With an extensive background in industry leadership, policy, and regulatory affairs—including past roles as President & CEO of Fertilizer Canada and COO at Food, Health & Consumer Products of Canada—Karen brings deep expertise to this critical new role aimed at fostering fair business practices in the grocery industry.Karen shares insights into her priorities for the first 100 days, including setting up the office, educating industry stakeholders, and ensuring smooth implementation when the code officially takes effect in June. She also addresses industry skepticism about the voluntary nature of the code and how transparency, public reporting, and industry buy-in will drive accountability.Beyond the grocery code, Michael LeBlanc and Dr. Sylvain Charlebois dive into pressing issues shaping the food retail landscape. They explore the evolving "buy Canadian" movement, questioning whether consumer support for domestic products is a trend or a fleeting response to geopolitical tensions. They also discuss the impact of tariffs, supply management in the dairy sector, and whether Canadians truly understand how grocery pricing and food policies work. The conversation extends to shrinkflation, the federal government's response to rising food costs, and how consumer perceptions influence buying behaviour. Are grocery chains and private-label brands benefiting from shifting consumer preferences? Is there a genuine commitment from major players to offer more Canadian-made products? In addition, raw milk and seed oils take center stage, with Sylvain weighing in on the debate over health benefits, government regulation, and consumer demand for alternative food choices. Meanwhile, the discussion around the GST holiday on food purchases highlights ongoing efforts to alleviate consumer financial pressure while maintaining a competitive retail environment.New York Times article on Raw Milkhttps://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/13/magazine/raw-milk-danger-benefits.html?unlocked_article_code=1.wk4.xI2Q.wjjcYaYrbFpb&smid=url-share The Food Professor #podcast is presented by Caddle. Their conversation explored the transformative work of the Professional Association of CISOs (PAC), an organization dedicated to establishing standards, accreditation, and support for cybersecurity leaders globally. This episode addressed three critical questions shaping the modern CISO role:How can CISOs build trust within their organizations? What is PAC doing to elevate cybersecurity as a recognized profession? How can CISOs prepare for increasing scrutiny and legal risks?Building Trust: A CISO's Key ResponsibilityHeather Hinton, whose career includes leadership roles like VP and CISO for IBM Cloud and PagerDuty, underscores that trust is foundational for a CISO's success. Beyond technical expertise, a CISO must demonstrate leadership, strategic thinking, and effective communication with boards, executives, and teams. Have you ever wondered how different cultures and generations engage with a company's code of conduct? Do employees across the globe really follow ethical guidelines in the same way, or are there stark contrasts depending on where they are and what they do? In this episode of Corruption, Crime & Compliance, Michael Volkov explores LRN's latest Code of Conduct Report, which reveals vital benchmarks and trends that can help companies strengthen their ethics and compliance programs. As LRN consistently provides high-quality insights on ethics and compliance, this episode dives deep into the findings that highlight how the code of conduct can serve as the cornerstone of a company's ethics culture—if used effectively. You'll hear him discuss:How the usage of codes of conduct differs across geographic regions, with India, China, and Australia showing the highest engagement rates. The surprising statistic that 35% of employees in the Netherlands reported never consulting their company's code of conduct. The impact of training, with countries like China and India seeing the highest percentage of employees trained on their code of conduct. The generational divide, with Gen Z employees consulting their codes of conduct more than Baby Boomers, despite prior reports suggesting Gen Z's tendency to bend rules. The significant gap in perceptions of code usage between senior leaders, middle managers, and frontline employees. The role of hybrid work in fostering higher engagement with codes of conduct, contrary to the common assumption that remote work leads to disengagement.ResourcesMichael Volkov on LinkedIn | TwitterThe Volkov Law Group
