Janice dreams big and brings others along for the ride. A life-long Entrepreneur and travel lover, Janice lives in Maui with her husband of 26 years. Together, they raised their family in Central California while envisioning, designing and creating their beloved lavender farm. They became the largest tourist draw in their area and were the leaders in the agri-tourism, farm to table movement. The farm was featured on the Discovery Health Channel on all things lavender and plant wellness. Janice won Business Person of the Year in 2008 for bringing an industry to the area that hadn't existed prior. There are over 20 lavender farms now, of which they helped start. After breaking her leg in 2009 they ended up losing the lavender farm and having to start over. In their rise back to health, Janice reveals how remembering the lessons she shared at the farm all those years, helped her regain her vibrant life. Now, she pays it forward daily and has helped others reclaim their dreams too. After being full time RVers for 3 and ½ years traveling the Country, they decided they wanted to live where the bougainvillea always blooms and have been blessed to do so for many years now. Janice still teaches about the amazing healing benefits of plants and offers Wellness Concierge services in Maui, Mexico, and Central California and is a Network Marketing professional that teaches others how to become their greatest asset. Dyslexic people are usually average or above average in intelligence, but when taught using the wrong strategies, they don't perform at their best, which can affect other areas, such as confidence, behaviors, and personality. Reading, spelling, and math are skills that some of us are better at than others. Unfortunately, our society often says everyone should be great at all these things, but that is not realistic. Dyslexic people are “normal,” they just need to be taught with different methods to master the skills. When we realize that we're all different individuals with different strengths, it releases a lot of burdens, and we ease their path. In this episode, Jess Arce, CEO of 3D Learning Experts, talks about the 3 Ds and how we can help dyslexic children and adults be successful by getting them in the right environment to learn, boosting their confidence, and mastering those skills. [10:07] How Dyslexia can show up in behavior and personality. [11:31] How Dyslexia is different from Dyscalculia and Dysgraphia. [20:45] Things to look out for in the 3 Ds and where to find a checklist. [25:15] How Jess's programs help adults with Dyslexia. [30:40] Jess's experience and why it's not easier to teach your own child. For women, the world ends at 40 and your dreams drift off into the abyss. You'll be pleased to know that the above sentence is NOT by any means true, and instead is an idea, embedded within society with no proof, sense or logic behind it – and Holly is here to break this notion. This week, Holly recalls her conversation with Skincare Expert, Author and YouTuber Caroline Hirons, who is a living example of why it's never too late to follow your passion and start your own business, on your own terms. Holly examines the very reasons why age is but a number, and why women are actually at an advantage when founding a business in their later years. She also explains the freedom that being a founder gives you, and talks of her own experience of setting up Holly & Co, and why she's even happier doing it the second time round, in a way that feels truer to her. Taken from Caroline's Conversation of Inspiration – she explains why following her dreams has allowed her to achieve success. We often automatically think that ‘success' means financial freedom, but Caroline shares exactly what it actually represents to her… As one of 10 very special episodes, Holly is also joined by Karishma Gupta, founder of Satatland and member of Dell's Women's Entrepreneur Network, who has shared her very own Lightbulb Moment, too. How do you know who you truly are? It's one of life's hardest questions isn't it, and is a quest that can often only be solved with time and perseverance as we explore life's path. This week's lightbulb moment was sparked by Holly's live interview with Levi Roots. Renowned for founding Reggae Reggae Sauce, Levi shares his experience of growing up, not truly knowing who he was or what his purpose might be – and reveals how changing his name, changed the direction of his life. Their conversation really triggered a lightbulb moment for Holly as she began to reflect on who she became throughout her business journey founding notonthehighstreet, and how by focusing on everything other than you, can often mean that you lose your authentic self along the way. Holly shares the hurdles and flaws she has had to overcome, in order to really understand who she is and explains why it's so important to not only know, but also love yourself – especially when you are such a key part of your brand. It certainly hasn't been an easy ride for Holly or Levi, but for anyone feeling a little lost with their identity, this is a moment that we think might just help you on your path to finding happiness – which comes from knowing your true self. As one of ten very special episodes, Holly is also joined by Tash Grossman, founder of Slip and member of Dell's Women's Entrepreneur Network, who has shared her very own Lightbulb Moment, too. The cosmopolitan port city of Kochi is the commercial capital of the southern state of Kerala, which has a special track record when it comes to gender equality. Female literacy and life expectancy rates are among the highest in India, and greater access to economic opportunities has made Kochi a hub for women-led businesses, which not only boosts the economy but has lasting development benefits for society as a whole. The newly elected Mayor of Kochi, M Anil Kumar, is keen to make female entrepreneurship a flagship policy by increasing access to funding, startup and incubation programmes. We also hear how women's safety is key to ensuring they have equal access to the workplace. But how far does India's deep-seated gender discrimination cast a shadow? Fi Glover is joined by urbanists Abha Joshi-Ghani and Dr Ellie Cosgrave to assess Kochi's achievements. Is it a model for a perfect city? The team also consider Stockholm's record on promoting women entrepreneurs. Featuring Pinky Jayaprakash, CEO and co-founder of edtech digital assessment platform SkEdu; Vinodini Isaac, president of the Women's Entrepreneur Network; Dr Shoba Arun, reader in sociology at Manchester Metropolitan University; and EK Bharat Bhushan, Kerala's former chief secretary.

This week’s episode of Good Girls Get Rich is brought to you by Uplevel Media CEO and LinkedIn expert, Karen Yankovich. In this episode, guest Katrina Sawa and Karen discuss why raising prices is the most important thing a business can do to make more money. Katrina Sawa is known as The Jumpstart Your Biz Coach because she literally kicks her clients and their businesses into high gear. Katrina is an international best-selling author founded the Int’l Entrepreneur Network to serve tens of thousands of businesses around the world. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. About the Episode: We’re in the middle of a pandemic, and many people are wondering, “What can I do to make more money?” The answer: raise your prices. That might seem crazy since a lot of people are struggling right now, but trust me… it works! Let’s say, in order to reach your sales goal for the week, you have to pitch 20 different people. Not all 20 will buy, but of the ones who do, they’ll have helped you meet your sales goal. Now, if you were to double your prices, fewer people might buy, but you’ll still make the same amount by the end of the week because you made double the money per sale. If doubling your prices runs away half your client base, it’s okay. You can afford to lose half your clients since that means doing half the work while making the same amount of money. Raising prices takes guts. It’s not an easy mindset shift. But once you do raise your prices, you’ll reap the benefits. Listen more about how and why you should raise your prices by listening to Episode 132 with guest Kristina Sawa. Jennifer, a virtual classroom and blended learning pioneer, is Founder and President of InSync Training. Her entirely virtual consulting firm specializes in the design and delivery of engaging, innovative, and effective modern blended learning. Under Jennifer's expert leadership, Inc. 500|5000 named InSync training the 10th Fastest Growing Education Company in the U.S. in 2013, the 20th Fastest Growing Education Company in 2014, and to their Inc. 5000 list for four consecutive years. Dell Women's Entrepreneur Network, Forbes Most Powerful Women Issue, The NativeAdVantage, and Goldman Sachs 10000 Small Businesses have all recognized her entrepreneurial drive. Show Notes Where my reason, imagination or interest were not engaged, I would not or could not learn. — Sir Winston Churchill With over 20 years in the online training business, Jennifer has been ahead of the game and has garnered so much experience which makes her a leader in this area. This episode of The Entrepreneurial You Podcast couldn't be more relevant to the times we are now experiencing. Here is a snippet of what Jennifer shared: "I like three things, I want everybody to be able to write on the Whiteboard at the same time because there's ways we can get introductions of 25 people done in 2 minutes. It makes it very effective, which is so important in the virtual world. We may only have 90 minutes or two hours together and everybody's working at the same time, which can be very powerful. I like to have a chat room where everybody can have a group chat that's easy to use that allows everyone to have an equal voice. So you may decide to speak out loud or you may decide to type in chat. It eliminates accents. It can help people with for example English as a second language and it allows people to reflect. I also want easy to use breakout rooms. Break out rooms allow us to come together in one virtual space and with the click of a few buttons we can send learner's into smaller groups where they can collaborate and create together. Those are the things I look for in technology." Listen to the episode and let us know what is your biggest takeaway. When I'm introduced to someone (virtually) by two people on the same day, I listen and connect. I'm so thankful I did! Katrina and I discuss how she was a bartender, got a college degree and THEN did door to door sales for 9 months, how that relates to dating, lacking confidence and how she healed from waiting to be picked up by her dad who was 2 days late, only to be complemented with a negative statement immediately after for her entire life. IN HER WORDS: I was in my starter marriage a few years too long. I was pretending to be "happy" when I would show up at networking events even though my spouse wasn't supportive of me being an entrepreneur. It wasn't easy as I'm usually very happy-go-lucky. I realized that life was too short and at 35 left that marriage to go do what I knew I was meant to do and boy did I do it in a big way! I never gave up and always believed "it would work out in the end" and it did. Now I have an amazing husband who we've supported each other through some big health challenges over the last 7 years and we're stronger because of it all. It's a story of having complete faith and stepping out in faith and belief in myself even though I couldn't see my next steps. It's a story of not settling and knowing I deserve more and not stopping until I find it. It's about love, money, and building your life around the kind of life you want instead of fitting your life in around your business. She also explained that effective leaders need to be competent, knowledgeable, and resourceful. Dr Porter let us know that we do not have to know it all. You just need to know where to get the information. She also shared there is growth in areas of opportunity. She encourages listeners to look at failure a different way. When it comes to working towards your goals, Dr. Porter reminds us to look at our circle of people we surround ourselves with and stated, “Do not allow others to dictate what you do and what you don’t do, validation is neither needed nor required, and everyone who is in your circle is not in your corner.”Overall, Dr. Sharon Porter shared with us many great leadership tidbits including the following: say positive affirmations, keep grinding and don't quit, it's important to be impactful and resourceful, have effective communication, there is growth in all areas of opportunity, and we all get the same minutes in the day so use them wisely. In episode #697, Eric and Neil discuss why they spend so much money on this podcast. Tune in to hear why giving something away for free can be a good idea. TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES: [00:27] Today's Topic: Why We Spent $46,452 on Marketing School [00:42] Eric and Neil enjoy doing this podcast. [01:15] They struggled with quality and methods at first, but eventually found their stride. [01:21] Now, they spend money on intro and outro music, editing, studio time, etc. [01:40] Ads and hosting are another expense. [02:05] Neil doesn't like spending money if he doesn't have to. [02:49] Eric thinks he has made at least $100,000 from producing this podcast, while Neil thinks he has made $0. [03:22] Neil does the podcast because he believes in the “rule of seven”. [03:40] The podcast is one of the seven touchpoints he uses to remain top-of-mind. [04:20] Marketing is going to get harder and harder, so having multiple touchpoints is important. [05:00] Eric and Neil could make more money monetizing the podcast, but they have decided it's more beneficial to keep it free. [05:15] This podcast was on the Entrepreneur Network, but they didn't want to read ads during the show, so they got booted. [05:50] Conservatively, they could be making $200,000/year off the podcast alone. [06:10] They believe you should do things for free as long as you enjoy it and something good comes from it. [06:50] They are playing the long game. [07:10] Sometimes, they get great ideas while working on the podcasts the end up making them money. [07:50] That's it for today! My guest in this episode is Patrick Bet-David. Patrick's amazing story starts with his family fled Iran during the revolution to a refugee camp in Germany eventually immigrating to America when he was 12-years old; eventually being granted US citizenship. After high school Patrick joined the U.S. military and served in the 101st Airborne before starting a business career in the financial services industry with Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. After a tenure with a couple traditional companies, he was inspired to launch PHP Agency Inc., an insurance marketing organization – and did so before he turned 30. PHP is now one of the fastest growing companies in the financial marketplace. Patrick is passionate about shaping the next generation of leaders by teaching thought provoking perspectives on entrepreneurship and disrupting the traditional approach to a career. Patrick's popularity surged and created a buzz in the hearts of entrepreneurs all over the world when The Life of an Entrepreneur in 90 Seconds, a video he created, accumulated over 25 million views online. This and sores of other videos comprise his library of edifying, educational and inspirational content about entrepreneurship. What Patrick's online audience and fans most appreciate about Patrick is that he isn't just a YouTube personality regurgitating content they learned in books, instead he's an active CEO dealing with day to day challenges ranging from hiring, firing, negotiating with investors, compliance, marketing, expansion and many other facets of running a business. This also led to the interest from one of the largest online entrepreneurial magazines, Entrepreneur.com being interested in featuring his content on their site and Entrepreneur Network, their online YouTube channel. Patrick speaks on a range of business, leadership and entrepreneurial topics including how and why to become an entrepreneur and the importance of learning how to fully process issues. He is particularly passionate about the need for every individual to pursue their desires, once stating, “Most of the greatest world changers and heroes of all time are at the graveyard undiscovered because they never sold out to their dreams and desires.” Patrick has also hosted a series of one-on-one interviews with some of the world's most interesting people, including Billionaire and Entrepreneur Mark Cuban, Apple co-founder, Steve Wozniak NBA Hall of Famer James Worthy, Author of 48 Laws of Power Robert Greene, Indy-500 Winner Al Unser Jr., among many others. To further encourage individuals to seek mentorship and counsel from some of the greatest minds out there, three years ago, Patrick launched the Entrepreneur's Book Club, which has gained notoriety from tens of thousands of people worldwide that read the assigned book of the month for a chance to win monthly prizes. From a humble beginning as a young immigrant escaping war-torn Iran with his parents, to founding his own company, Patrick has gained a first-hand understanding of what rags-to-riches means and how it is fueled by freedom and opportunity – the core tenants of the American Dream. Caroline took a leap from a career in investment banking to one launching a high-end luxury retail line that sold in more than 400 stores worldwide from Neiman Marcus to Bloomingdales. But that was only the first chapter in this now-established entrepreneur’s startup career. When this first company failed two years later, Carolyn wasn’t deterred. Instead, she launched a multi-million dollar interactive marketing agency, Cake Communications. And, she also used the failure as an opportunity to give a very real and very vulnerable TEDx talk. Today Carolyn is running global women’s collaborative accelerator, Circular Board, a virtual, 12-week program. “[As] an entrepreneur myself, I’ve helped raise billions of dollars in capital through my work as an investment banker for JPMorgan and as founder of Cake Communications,” she says. In her role, Carolyn teaches others how to do the same, and she serves as an advocate for women in business, connecting female entrepreneurs to the capital, resources, mentors and partners to fuel their growth. Additionally, Carolyn serves on the board of the Texas A&M Mays College of Business, as a member of the Dell Women’s Entrepreneur Network and as a United Nations Global Accelerator delegate. She is the recipient of the American Express Micro to Millions Award, a Sam Walton Emerging Entrepreneur and an Entrepreneur magazine 2016 “Woman to Watch.” She’s also been featured in The Huffington Post, Fortune, Time and on MSNBC, among others. In episode 14 of I Want Her Job: The Podcast, Editor Polina Selyutin speaks with Carolyn about the lessons learned from launching two businesses; her goals for growing Circular Board; and the vital importance of connection, collaboration and curiosity. TOPICS DISCUSSED IN TODAY'S SHOW: Who Run The World? Girls!: “All of us reap the rewards when women succeed. It’s job creation. It’s economic growth. It’s social impact. There are so many different benefits that we achieve when women succeed. It isn’t just about gender equality, but about quality of life for each and every person.” Breaking Barriers: Carolyn discusses the difficulty many female entrepreneurs face when they look to relocate for an accelerator program, and shares how Circular Board is the ultimate answer to that conundrum. Get There Quicker: For entrepreneurs, Carolyn advises not to compromise on the big vision and to seek funding earlier to achieve that vision. “What happens is [women] compromise that vision because they don’t have the resources on hand today, and they start to bootstrap in a way that changes that path.” Ladies Leading: “Women are incredible leaders. We are really empathetic. We understand our customers in a real unique way, which I think is a huge advantage,” Carolyn says. Give And Get: During Carolyn’s business experience, she noticed women didn’t ask for enough help often enough. She addresses that at Circular Board via a “Give and Get” exercise that encourages women to practice asking for help. On Diversity: “When you bring that to the table it creates this infusion of energy, and people start bouncing ideas off one another and bring a different lens to a problem,” Carolyn says. The Hardest Part Of Starting A Business: Carolyn believes the middle stage is the hardest part – when your company is growing and one needs the capital to hire, but doesn’t have the funds yet to do so. Let It Go: How transparency, honesty and letting go of fear can liberate an entrepreneur to grow even faster. Word Of Mouth Cultivation: Carolyn shares how she used referrals to grow her businesses and reduce marketing costs. That X Factor: “Ask others what you’re good at,” Carolyn says. Hearing what others list as your strengths is a great way to find out what you might be taking for granted that actually can help set you – and your business – apart.
