The Lindsay Clancy trial opened with two very different stories told in the same room, and this breakdown lines them up side by side against what the medical record actually shows. ADA Shanan Buckingham's opening statement for the Commonwealth builds premeditation out of a timeline, a takeout order, a pharmacy run, a fourteen-second phone call, arguing that this kind of organization is proof of a working, sane mind. Postpartum psychosis research complicates that argument considerably, and we walk through what it documents about command hallucinations and the ability to function while symptomatic. Kevin Reddington's defense opening pushes back hard on three fronts at once. He told the jury Lindsay Clancy is paralyzed, with a burst spinal fracture and every rib broken, injuries the Commonwealth's own opening described in part as superficial. Trade union federation COSATU has welcomed the appointment of Deputy Minister Seiso Mohai as Chairperson of the Public Investment Corporation, PIC. The state-owned asset manager oversees more than three point six trillion rand in public servant pensions and social security funds. The Federation says Mohai brings stability and a strong anti-corruption record to the fund. There are many reasons to skip the back and forth of email or texting and just call someone. One good reason is to make an appointment. It could be a business meeting, a conversation with your lawyer, a visit to a client, or a doctor's appointment. In this case, the real business needs to happen in person. But that in-person appointment needs to be arranged and agreed on. When we make an appointment over the phone, we often say our reason for calling before asking for a meeting. And it's a good idea to give a clear reason for that meeting or appointment. You'll also have to discuss existing plans and suggest times for the meeting.
