When considering careers or preparing for a career change, we oftentimes want to be as certain as possible we're pursuing a field that'll offer strong opportunities for employment as well as opportunities for growth and promotion into new positions with greater pay. Even when we do our research and choose a career with strong indicators of continuous growth, however, this still doesn't mean that our success is guaranteed. In this episode, we discuss the hard fact that salaries vary across industries. Therefore, it's important to consider this reality when choosing a job. Doing so ensures the career you choose will support the lifestyle you want to have. At the same time, however, pay shouldn't be the only factor you consider when deciding on a career. We review salary projections for the Class of 2022 as well as average salaries across various majors and compare them to college students' expectations. Then, we take a look at an example of the potential consequence of choosing a career based on pay and prestige when said career isn't in alignment with your personal values.
