This episode asks what seems to be a simple question, “What does it mean to be progressive?” And while the answer for many people seems to be simple, when the perspective is changed, things get more complicated very quickly. It's the kind of question that B Dorm was built for. And an important part of the foundation that B Dorm is built on, is a love of hip hop and R&B. So in 2001 when Erick Sermon dropped (Just Like) Music it was the perfect blend, mixing the silky smooth sound of Marvin Gaye with the modern, raw sound of hip hop. It's a timeless jam and just one of many from what a lot of people consider the best time ever for hip hop. And as much as we love the old school jams, your hosts Don Elivert and Jehriko Turner ask the important question, has our love of hip hop continued to evolve too? Are too many people stuck on old jams and dismissing the new artists the same way the old heads dissed hip hop when we were coming up? It's an easy argument to fall into. The 1990s and early 2000s gave us BIGGIE, Nas, Wu Tang, Tupac and Dre. Jay Z, DMX and Snoop. But the current crop is every bit as talented with J Cole, Chance, Future and Lil Nas X pushing the art forward. So why don't they get the love? Why do so many people seem to think that hip hop hasn't evolved and gotten better? Has it? Has it progressed? And speaking of progress, we've all got to do better when it comes to recycling and taking care of the environment. We just had Earth Day, but that's not enough. And unless you're Bezos or Elon, you're stuck here on Earth with the rest of us, so clean up after yourself. If you can make every day 4/20, you can make every day Earth Day. It's a fun conversation and it's an important and interesting theme. What does it mean to be progressive? Does anyone ever think that they are regressive? Doesn't everyone think they are progressive in some ways? This is what it's all about. A smart, fun, educated conversation that doesn't take itself too seriously. This is the B Dorm podcast. Pour yourself something. #drinksexy. Every episode of The B Dorm Podcast is an entertaining and thought provoking experience that will make you laugh, and make you feel. Solis is a visionary, rapper, and songwriter, but that's honestly an understatement. When you listen to him - and I mean really listen to him - you can't not feel something. From the dynamic flows and Andre3000esque delivery, Solis treats every beat like a new day; showing up with an opportunity to spread a message. I met Solis for the first time on the podcast and we instantly hit it off. We dove deep into the current state of hiphip comparing the artists of the decades before us with what we're hearing now, and unpacking why it changed. On top of that we uncover why very few of us are in touch with the cultures we came from - something Solis speaks about constantly in his music when it comes to his Puerto Rican and Cuban roots. BIA and J.Cole have shared the video for their new single ‘London'. Watch the video below. The video for the “braggadocious” track, which is also said to be “highly influenced by UK drill” in a release, was recorded in an overcast London. In the clip, the American rapper, born Bianca Miquela Landrau, goes shopping, has a tea party, and raps British slang while hanging out in the capital. “He never met no one like me / It's pretty funny how now they all like me, innit?” she says in the track, before Cole joins her, rapping: “Blokes going broke tryin' to keep up with Cole, but I make it back soon as I spend it.” The theme of luxury in the video, is similar to the subject matter of BIA's 2020 platinum single, ‘Whole Lotta Money' which Nicki Minaj remixed on the deluxe version of her ‘For Certain' EP. “I damn near didn't even wanna put this clip up cuz I need everybody to hear this shit PURE. How I heard it!” J. Cole said in an Instagram post about ‘London'. He added: “I Asked BIA to come through the studio for some whole other shit. First time meeting her. We chop it up. She plays me this new song she had just did. Mannnnnnn in that moment I was blown away.” He went on to say that he thought about the song for a month, calling it his “favourite” even though he'd only heard it one time. Cole then shared that he loved the track so much, he wanted to collab on it. J. Cole has plans to play multiple festival dates in the coming months, including New York City's Governors Ball in June and London's Wireless Festival in July. source: Bia and J. Leave it to J. Cole to bless fans with one hell of a surprise like this. Today (March 31), the Fayetteville star and his Dreamville camp — Ari Lennox, J.I.D, Bas, EARTHGANG, Cozz, Lute, and Omen — connect with DJ Drama for D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape, which is expected to feature both unheard tracks and previously released cuts like J.I.D's “Ambassel,” a standout effort from the Madden NFL 22 Soundtrack. D-Day is also being released in conjunction with this year's Dreamville Festival, which takes place this weekend in Raleigh, NC, and (in addition to the aforementioned) will see a wealth of support from Lil Baby, Ja Rule, Ashanti, Kehlani, Moneybagg Yo, Bia, Rico Nasty, Wale, WizKid, Morray, Fivio Foreign, Blxst and more. Drama will also be in the proverbial building to perform a Gangsta Grillz set alongside Lil Wayne, Jeezy, and T.I. It's been a few years since the Dreamville collective came together for the third installment of their Revenge of the Dreamers series, which contained a healthy 18 cuts and a slew of outside contributions from the like of DaBaby, Reason, Childish Major, Yung Baby Tate, Guapdad 4000, Vince Staples, Ty Dolla $ign, Smino, and Deante' Hitchcock. The project proved to be a huge success for all parties involved, landing at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 thanks to an impressive 115,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. The following year, a Director's Cut upgrade of Revenge of the Dreamers III surfaced with 12 additional songs. As far as Cole himself, last year saw him liberating his sixth studio LP The Off-Season, another chart-topper from the camp (and Cole‘s sixth). He later promoted the album via a tour of the same name, bringing along 21 Savage and Morray for additional support. source: J.
