Send us Fan MailIntro:Welcome to Rational Black Thought, the podcast where we examine politics, religion, culture, and power without superstition, without respectability politics, and without pretending that polite lies become truth because they are repeated on television.I am your host, Michael, your Neo Griot, and this is Episode 291 of Rational Black Thought the Podcast, where we examine politics, religion and culture from a Black, progressive, secular and unapologetically rational perspective. This week's episode is titled "Let Go My Hand," taken from the J. Cole song of the same name. There is a line in that song where Cole says, “Today my son said, "Dad, let go my hand"Reminded me one day he's gonna be his own man.”  And that line has stayed with me because it captures something deeper than growing up. It captures the moment when a person realizes that dependence—whether on God, on institutions, on political leaders, or on tradition—has become a barrier to development.Children need someone to hold their hands. That is not a moral failing; it is a biological necessity. We need parents and teachers and guardians to keep us from walking into traffic, from touching hot stoves, from making decisions we do not yet have the experience to understand. But childhood is supposed to end.At some point, you have to learn to walk without somebody else deciding where your feet go.That is true physically, and it is also true intellectually, politically, and spiritually. Human beings are uncomfortable with uncertainty. We want somebody to tell us what is true, what is right, what the future holds, and what we are supposed to do with our lives. Religion gives that authority to God. Authoritarian politics gives it to a strongman. Political parties give it to institutions. Tradition gives it to the dead. And sometimes we just give it to whoever seems confident enough to pretend they have all the answers. The problem is not that we accept help. Nobody becomes fully human alone. We depend on families, teachers, scientists, doctors, neighbors, institutions, and generations of accumulated knowledge. The problem begins when assistance becomes submission. When leadership becomes obedience. When trust becomes faith. When community becomes conformity. When you stop asking whether something is true and start asking whether the person saying it has enough authority to command your belief.Intellectual adulthood requires a different relationship with authority. I can respect expertise without worshipping the expert. I can belong to a community without surrendering my conscience. I can learn from tradition without becoming trapped by it. And I can admit that I do not know something without feeling the need to fill the empty space with God.The title of this episode is not an argument for radical individualism. It is an argument for responsibility. It is an argument that human beings must stop outsourcing our thinking, our morality, and our political agency to invisible gods and visible strongmen. Because at some point, you have to decide whether you are prepared to walk on your own principles—and, more importantly, whether you can keep walking when those principles come with a cost.Let us get into it.Quote of the Week: Frederick Douglass Unmasking the News: Democracy Watch:  Lindsey Graham, or How a Man Surrenders His PrinciplesTrump's Iran War, or the Difference Between Unpredictability and Strategy The Christian Persecution Narrative, or When Privilege Puts on a Victim's Costume Good News:  Black Boys Building the Future, One Layer at a Time Bible Study with an Atheist: Let Go My Hand: What the Bible Says About Human Autonomy Reflections and Call to Action:Closing/Outro: Power Concedes Nothing without a Demand...

(Listen to Part 1 here) Whilst the first half of his discography speak for themselves, Cole finishes his stretch of solo albums with a litany of appearances outside of the albums that unfortunately colour his works, culminating in a discography that - whilst unmistakably Cole - is riddled with artistic potholes. TIMESTAMPS:Weekly Music Roundup - (0:58)Charlie:Xzibit, B-Real & Demrick - This Thing Of OursArima Ederra - A Rush To Nowhere TrueMendous & Bear. - Break Offline, Before I Have a Breakdown OnlineWesley Joseph - Forever Ends SomedaySURF GANG - POMPEII // UTILITY Raye - THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE.Topic Intro/Ben's Research House - (10:54)4 Your Eyez Only - (13:09) KoD - (26:14) The Off-Season - (37:39)The Fall Off - (47:37) Lighter Note - (1:09:43) Thanks for listening. “He said what he said!” Channing Crowder  Another Friday with the fellas, and we are keeping it real as it comes! In this episode of The Pivot Podcast, Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder, and Fred Taylor dive headfirst into the growing tension between media narratives and athlete realities—where competition doesn't just stay on the field, but spills into headlines, hot takes, and heated exchanges. The guys unpack what happens when sports and media collide in a war of words, questioning whether loyalty still holds value in an era driven by viral moments and attention economics. Is integrity being sacrificed for clicks? And more importantly, how do athletes and analysts alike stop chasing acceptance in spaces that thrive on controversy? They break down the ongoing friction between Cam Newton and Stephen A. Smith, offering perspective on accountability, respect, and the blurred lines between critique and personal attack while RC opens up on his views being dragged into it. The conversation expands to Dan Orlovsky's recent criticisms and the debate surrounding leadership and performance expectations at the quarterback position—including the Fernando Mendoza vs. Ty Simpson No. 1 QB discussion. Channing agrees with Dan O while Fred feels that this 2026 QB NFL Draft class is weaker than recent ones. Switching gears to NBA and basketball talk, the crew reflects on Victor Wembanyama's unique presence in the league—his confidence, individuality, and whether his global background gives him an edge in navigating pressure without the weight of American sports culture norms or fandom of players like Lebron. The guys are fired up by Wemby' swag and echo his MVP chatter. Rounding out the episode, the guys take a moment to acknowledge J. Cole's message about authenticity and self-awareness, tying it back to the broader theme of staying grounded in truth while the world demands performance. We also spoke about acceptance, finding worth in achievement and what is the standard we value our success at. It's a raw, honest, and thought-provoking episode about identity, accountability, and the cost of being real in a system built for noise. The MalloryBros podcast returns for the 296th episode, only 4 away from the big 300 milestone. The Bros speak on their excitement about that before jumping into the weekly weekend recap. Terrance shares a story about stepping out of line with his Dad and how he grew from that moment. They get the ball rolling with J Cole and how he's trying to stay in the middle of the biggest beef in Hip Hop and that strategy isn't going well with what he's said on Wax. The Bros chop it up but don't stay on it for too long because y'all know how they feel about that subject. They talk about Tom Brady's Flagg Football event and how well it went. It was entertaining and opened our eyes for the upcoming 2028 Olympics. They speak about Latto's pregnancy announcement and Terrance reflects on Ep. 283 where he spoke on Women Rapper's PERSONAL LIVES contrasting their careers. The bigger conversation is about how Social Media has blurred the line and made things fall into place this way. Next, the Bros talk about how Live Action Remakes are NOT for Kids and just a money play for the Big Studios. Before this they have a conversation about the New Moana and the Rock's casting. This sparks a great conversation about what Role they actually want to see Rock play. The Bros then talk about JayZ jumping back on the stage and performing after years. Two huge album performances and the Roots picnic performance spark a conversation on what's to come from Jay Z as well as what we expect to hear from the Billionaire after all this time. The Bros talk about the viral video of the Pitbull that attacked two women and speak about what they'd do in the face of this situation. This sparks a good debate about standing up for what's right and protecting yourself from danger when you have something at home to protect. They classic “WHERE WERE THE MEN??” Conversation. The Bros then play a fun game where they randomly say the first actor/actress they think of. Once they have the two random actors, they pitch the best movie they can starring the two. A lot of fun this week with the Bros!

On the 290th episode of the MalloryBrosPodcast, the Bros jump right in with Terrance going down memory lane. He breaks down how reading the number two-nine in Episode 290 feels like the stars aligning. That reflection turns into a story about how he and Terrell played the 4 and 5 on their very first basketball team, tying it back to how they've always been “9ers” at heart. The weekend recap finds Terrance fully in his storytelling bag, sharing a moment where he helped an elderly woman who fell in a grocery store. The situation stuck with him and served as a reminder of how important it is to show up for people. Terrell talks about getting ready for the Super Bowl before the Bros shift into a deeper conversation about the game's halftime show. Bad Bunny made history with a fully Spanish performance that sparked heavy debate, and the Bros break down both sides of the reaction. They discuss whether the Super Bowl halftime show has evolved from a massive entertainment platform into more of a cultural statement moment. Future's new snippets and the excitement around his return. Things take a darker turn as the Bros react to President Trump sharing racist AI-generated videos of former President Obama. Despicable behavior. The Bros revisit a topic from last week involving social media creator Khaby Lame, who reportedly sold his company for $975 million.. but also signed up for a digital AI twin. This is being looked alas the new way of selling your soul ... or is it? The Bros debate it. Terrance revisits a point he's made before about how the devices we rely on today won't even exist in the same way years from now. They also discuss the Ring Doorbell Super Bowl commercial that raised concerns, celebrate the Seattle Seahawks winning the Super Bowl, and close out with thoughts on J. Cole's The Fall Off, which is already being called a classic. The Bros give their early reactions to the project and talk about whether artists are becoming more comfortable operating as solo acts than ever before.  Movie Suggestions of the Week: Terrance | Chronicle (2012) | Now Streaming on NETLIX.  Terrell | FOCUS (2013) | Now Streaming on NETFLIX.

The Bros are back in person and the vibes are high. The Snow is melting but 2026 is heating up in a good and bad ways. The Bros first discuss their lengthy Weekend Recap trying to survive the ice and being fathers, spending time with family and tapping into new Music. The first conversation is about J Cole's new “Birthday Blizzard” freestyle he dropped last week and some of the controversial things that came from those records. Terrance and Terrell both share a favorite of the four, and discuss if somebody should respond to J Cole and the possibility of him sliding bars Kendrick's way. A good conversation but you know how they get with that sensitive topic. This is all before diving into their thoughts on the 2026 Grammy Awards. A MALLORY BROS PODCAST MUTHAFUCKIN TRADITION! They've been making predictions all year and the winners are finally chosen. Of course they chop it and dive deep into trending opinions from Grammy night like the hate that Olivia Dean received after winning best new artist, Kendrick Lamar & SZA Wins, Leon Thomas & Kehlani R&B, Bad Bunny Wins the Big One AOTY, Clipse coming up short to Kendrick Lamar's GNX for Best Rap Album over Clipse and Terrance even make's a point that the Clipse seemed to be living in Pharrell's shadow. EVERYTHING IS A LOT. Next, the Bros talk about how the Hip Hop World froze when an Epstein file dropped including the names of Jayz and Pusha T. They discuss the seriousness of knowing the legality of these claims while also pointing out the very obvious contradictions and hesitations to cover this story from other media outlets. This news has Hip Hop in a pinch. Terrell says “The only choice is to just wait.” Next the Terrance has a list of actors/actresses he found that he says were PERFECT for a role, but didn't get the part. A lot these you probably won't know and the topic is filled with a lot of good details about the films as well. Not just the roles and auditions process. Terrell gives a hot take on Bacon before the Bros wrap up Episode 289 with the Movie Suggestions of the week. BROS BBQ TASTE SO GOOD.
