James has a fun conversation with the East Coast based performer. YawnyBlew is the brainchild of Brooklyn-based songwriter Johny Gonzalez. Debuting in 2020, YawnyBlew was initially a vehicle to showcase music during the global pandemic, but eventually evolved into a vehicle for self discovery, artist expression and industry reform for the Grammy and NME nominated creative. Beginning his professional songwriting career in 2017, Yawny scored his first placement “Light It All Up” for the television series Empire. Produced by Rodney Jerkins, the protest anthem was featured in season 3 and sung by Rumer Willis. He would go on to pen three additional songs that season for Jussie Smollett, a major win for Yawny, a queer boy from The Bronx, NY who dreamed of uplifting others like himself with his music. In the years since, Yawny has been working hard behind the scenes writing for the likes of Keiynan Lonsdale, Dyllon Burnside, Maeta, Cocoa Sarai and Cam Anthony. He would be one of the key creatives behind Thai Pop singer Pyra, who's music has been called “dystopian pop” and features themes of feminism, self discovery, queer exploration and more. Their work together scored several NME Award nominations in 2022. Later that same year he would mentor under Pharrell Williams while crafting songs for TikTok star Marley Bleu. As YawnyBlew, he unapologetically champions body positivity and queerness on songs like “Can't Compete,” and “Curious?” made in collaboration with Brooklyn based multi-hyphenate Tarik “amir.” Carroll. Their collaborative debut DREAMBIIG was released in Oct 2023. Elsewhere on solo songs like “driveslow,” Yawny talks about figuring out life on your own terms while not being afraid to live authentically. Following the launch of his podcast BIIGGER THAN OUR DREAMS in 2022, Yawny has been stepping out more into the public speaking realm, discussing issues that directly affect marginalized creatives and how they show up in the world. His abilities to tell other's stories through his journalist works (The Source Magazine, The Music Times) and podcast endeavors caught the attention of tech giant META, where Yawny serves as a Music Coordinator and communication strategist for Meta's Music. yawnyblew.com

Bronx-born producer Buckwild was, and continues to be, instrumental in this ever-growing movement. For the past few years, hip-hop producer, Buckwild, has contributed a countless amount of classics to a game that's a mere 20 years into its prime. Alumni of the D.T.I.C.(Diggin' in the Crates) school of beat making, Buckwild-a former DJ-first earned a respectable reputation as one of New York City's most bought mix-tape DJ's in the early 90's. Under the guidance of his neighbors/mentors and fellow established artist Lord Finesse of Diamond D, Buckwild made the jump from DJ to producer with 1993's "Shit Is Real" featuring both Diamond, Finesse along with Sadat X of Brand Nubian. The song would be the first of many underground classics constructed at the hands of Buckwild. A year later, Buckwild provided the unforgettable backdrop for O.C. for what became the classic, "Times Up". Soon thereafter, Buck found himself remixing tracks for underground mainstays, such as Funk Doobiest, ("Rock On"), The Alcoholiks ("Damn") and Artifacts ("C'mon Wit Da Get Down" w/ Busta Rhymes) to name a few. By 1995 it was clear as day; artist requested a "Buckwild Remix" on their single releases. Buckwild's remix clout soon blossomed into album cut request. For the next few years, Buckwild conjured up a slew of classic backgrounds for underground delegates such as Mic Geronimo, Organized Konfusion, O.C. as well as Capone-N-Noreaga just to name a few. An advance in Buckwild's already promising career took place in1996 when he provided the late, great Notorious B.I.G. with the mellow exotic-backdrop for "Story To Tell", off the multi-platinum release, Life After Death. The song became one of the greatest rap-tales in hip-hop history. Soon thereafter Buckwild accommodated memorable backgrounds for legends like Jay-Z, Kool G. Rap and the late Big Pun, respectively. Just when the world thought they'd heard the Bronx vet at his peek, Buckwild supplied Bad Boy Artist Black Rob, with the precise background for an idea Black Rob had named "Whoa". Sure enough, the aptly titled, "Whoa", became the biggest record of 2000 and helped push a mildly anticipated album towards platinum status. That same year, Buckwild was named one of The Source Magazine's Producers of the Year. Having supplied Bad Boy with some of its most memorable hits, Buckwild was given a position among P.Diddy's prestigious Hit Men; a group of producers who supply P.Diddy with his chart topping sound. At the dawn of the new millennium, Buck continues to push towards the next level heights by working with an array of artists. Not one to forget his roots, Buckwild continues to provide the established and the non-established with outstanding backdrops that provide a particular feel for each respected artist; thus continuing to push this hip-hop-movement toward the new century. In the 'you just can't make this stuff up' category, Suge Knight has a new podcast. Yep, he is still in jail serving a 28 year sentence, but apparently that doesn't matter. He made a deal with David Mays from Source Magazine. The podcast is called Collect Call With Suge Knight. After one episode, as you might guess, there is some drama, because it's Suge Knight. Suge is making audacious claims about Akon, accusing him of raping underage girls in the studio. Akon has refuted the claims in a statement to TMZ Hip Hop, saying the claims are false and he is not standing for the slander. "I need to make it very clear that I absolutely deny these outrageous false and disgusting claims Suge Knight made on his podcast about me," he said. Akon goes on to say that he has never had any contact with Suge since he's been incarcerated, and the voice that you heard on his podcast was a soundbite previously recorded from an interview that Akon did with DJ Vlad three years ago regarding Suge Knight and this incident that happened back in 2009. As you might guess, Akon has gotten his legal team involved. They are filing a defamation lawsuit against Knight. I don't know what that's going to mean because he's already in jail, but anyway, he says that he is still praying for Suge and he will continue to do that. As for the backstory to all of this, in 2009, Suge was left KO'd on the pavement and a man in Akon's camp, Robert Carnes Jr., was arrested for a felony assault that happened in Scottsdale, Arizona. And as they say, the beat goes on. Deion Sanders Advocates for Robbed Players: Calls for NCAA and Rose Bowl to Reimburse Stolen Goods University of Colorado football coach Deion Sanders is speaking out about his players being robbed of their personal items at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. This happened last weekend. It was a really big game here for all of us in LA as Colorado played and lost to UCLA. But ESPN is reporting that Sanders has called on the NCAA and the Rose Bowl to reimburse the athletes who were robbed of jewelry and cash as their locker room was raided during the game. He said, "This is the Rose Bowl. They say the Granddaddy of them all, right? I'm sure Granddaddy has some money. Grandpa should have some money to give his kids... They may not be able to get the items back. But we should be able to reimburse them. That was unbelievable." Most of the players didn't have insurance for the stolen items. A report was filed with the Pasadena Police Department regarding the robbery. ESPN is reporting on all of this. Legacy Secured: Nipsey Hussle's Children Declared Sole Beneficiaries of His Estate Nipsey Hussle's brother, Samiel Asghedom, has finalized the work as administrator of the late rapper's estate. And according to the legal papers, Nipsey's two children are his sole beneficiaries. Emani, who's 14, with his ex-girlfriend Tanisha Foster, and Kross Asghedom, whom he shared with then girlfriend Lauren London. Kross and Emani will each receive 50% of the cash and non-cash assets, with an additional $113,000 for health, education, and other matters. His death is still It's such a very, very sad story, but I'm glad the kids will be okay. Britney Spears' Memoir Hits 1.1 Million Sales in First Week Britney Spears' memoir, "The Woman in Me," has sold 1.1 million copies in the U.S. alone, and that was just the first week. She, of course, is grateful to her fans and readers around the world for their unwavering support. I guess you could call it that. The sales figures include pre-orders, print sales, ebooks, and audiobooks. "The Woman in Me," released October 24, has been praised by critics as a compelling account of Britney's rise to global fame and her ongoing struggles, including the conservatorship that lasted for years as her father was in control of much of her life. And she, of course, told about that abortion while dating Justin Timberlake more than 20 years ago. I think that's what sold the book. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

We are now more aware of the correlations between our diets and the impact they have on our long-term physical wellness. B. Cox commemorates Capone-N-Noreaga's debut album The War Report as it turns 25. In the midst of an identity crisis for New York rap, the two Queens natives arrived on the scene - unheralded, yet determined. After appearing the "Unsigned Hype" section of The Source Magazine in 1995, the duo was signed to a record label and began recording their debut. In the midst of recording, Capone was jailed for a parole violation, leaving Noreaga to finish the album. Assisted with features by the likes of Juice Crew veteran Tragedy Khadafi, Imam T.H.U.G, and Mobb Deep with a Who's Who's of hip-hop producers (Six July, Nashiem Myrick, Lord Finesse, Clark Kent, Marley Marl, Havoc, Naughty Shorts, EZ Elpee, Charlemagne), the album featured haunting, gritty and hypnotic beats over lyrics that told tales of street life and urban decay. The appeal of the group to underground and hardcore hip-hop fans alike lead to a cult success of the album. Despite no charting singles or widely circulated music videos, the album was certified gold. Since its release, it has been credited as an album that reasserted the identity and sound of New York hip-hop, laid the groundwork for the success of many who followed after it and has now been hailed as a classic - even from the most unlikely of circumstances.Visit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comSupport The Vault Classic Music Review on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodShow NotesAlbumism: Capone-N-Noreaga's Debut Album "The War Report" turns 25 | Anniversary Retrospectivehttps://albumism.com/features/tribute-celebrating-25-years-of-capone-n-noreaga-the-war-reportThe BoomBox: Capone-N-Noreaga's "The War Report" Brought Listeners to the Frontlines of the streetshttps://theboombox.com/capone-n-noreagas-the-war-report-20-years-later/Vibe: 20 Years Later: A Ranking of Capone-N-Noreaga's Classic Debut "The War Report" https://www.vibe.com/music/music-news/capone-n-noreaga-the-war-report-20-years-519554/WhatWentRight: What Went Right With...The War Report by Capone-N-Noreaga? https://whatwentrightwith.com/2017/06/17/what-went-right-with-the-war-report-by-capone-n-noreaga/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-vault-classic-music-reviews-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
