In this episode of Two Mics, No Masking, Katie Scott and Jenna Goldstein are joined by Rabbi Shoshana Meira Friedman, founder of the PDA Safe Circle, to explore what happens when we stop trying to fit ourselves into systems that were never designed for us.Together they discuss nervous system literacy, questioning the default blueprints we've inherited, and what it means to build a life that is sustainable, authentic, and aligned with who we are. Rather than asking how we can adapt to existing expectations, Katie, Jenna, and Shoshana explore how we can create lives that genuinely work for us.

AP records the same voice through four very different microphones and sends the files around without revealing what they are. George, Robert, Robbo and a bunch of trusted audio ears rank them purely on what they hear. Then the mics are revealed. The result is a pretty good reminder that price, reputation and specifications only tell you so much. What matters is how a microphone actually sounds on the voice and for the job you need it to do. And just to make the point beautifully, Robbo put the overall winner dead last. LIBSYN FULL DESCRIPTION It's time to Guess That Mic. AP started out making a sample of one microphone for someone. As tends to happen around here, that simple job turned into four microphones, multiple preamps, a pile of audio files and a blind listening test involving ten people. The idea was simple. Listen to four mystery microphones on AP's voice. Don't worry about the badge, the price or what you think you're supposed to like. Just rank them. The result? Almost nobody agreed. George liked 3, 4, 2, 1. Robert went 4, 3, 2, 1. Robbo went 2, 1, 4, 3. And the more people AP asked, the more interesting the results became. Once all ten votes were scored, the final result was: 1st, Mic 3, 27 points Equal 2nd, Mic 2, 25 points Equal 2nd, Mic 4, 25 points 4th, Mic 1, 23 points So what were they? THE BIG REVEAL Mic 1 Microtech Gefell M 92.1 S tube condenser with M7 capsule Recorded through a Grace m101 Mic 2 Microtech Gefell M 930 art Mic 3 Austrian Audio OC818 Mic 4 AKG C414 EB with nylon CK12 capsule Mics 2, 3 and 4 were recorded through a Neve 1073. No processing or high pass filtering was deliberately added to the comparison. And yes, the Austrian Audio OC818 won the overall vote. Robbo ranked it last. Which rather neatly sums up the entire episode. This was never intended to be a scientific microphone test. It was about something arguably more useful, what happens when people actually listen without knowing the name or price printed on the microphone. A mic one person describes as smooth and full, someone else hears as dark. One person hears useful presence, someone else hears too much top end. One listener's first choice becomes another listener's fourth. HOW EVERYONE VOTED George Whittam: 3, 4, 2, 1 Robert Marshall: 4, 3, 2, 1 Robbo: 2, 1, 4, 3 Chris Gates: 2, 3, 4, 1 Simon Murphy: 1, 2, 4, 3 AJ: 4, 3, 2, 1 Matt McKenzie Smith: 3, 4, 2, 1 Paul Baxter: 3, 1, 2, 4 Matty from Sonic Playground: 1, 2, 3, 4 Mike Aiton: 1, 4, 3, 2 MORE COMMENTS FROM THE SHOOTOUT Mike Aiton Mic 1: Sounds really good. Not over hyped anywhere with a good natural midrange. Mike guessed it might be a 416 and picked it as his favourite "by a country mile". Mic 2: Sibilant around 7.5 kHz, less lower mids and consequently less full sounding. Definitely not Mike's cup of tea. Mic 3: Subdued top end with a very full bottom end. Mike wondered whether it might be a ribbon. Mic 4: Mike thought this sounded like a TLM 103, noting the bass lift and saying he would probably reduce some of that for AP's voice. Matt McKenzie Smith Mic 1: Matt heard harmonic resonances around 470 Hz and 980 Hz, plus some additional energy around 2.5 kHz. Mic 2: "Sounds lovely", with a little more prominence around the 4 to 5 kHz area. Mic 3: Hotter in the low end and sounding great, although Matt noticed a prominent phase offset. Mic 4: Similar phase offset, along with great low end extension. Matt's final ranking was: 3, 4, 2, 1 And perhaps that is the real conclusion of the whole exercise. There isn't a microphone that everybody is going to prefer. The expensive one isn't automatically better. The one with the flattering frequency response on paper isn't automatically better. And a microphone that sounds gorgeous solo might not necessarily be the one you'd choose when that voice has to fight its way through a commercial mix. Pick the microphone that works for your voice and your job. What a bloody novel concept. Thanks to Tri Booth and Austrian Audio. Recorded using Source Connect. Edited by Andrew Peters. He is now COO of one of the longest-standing MICs in Canada, a company founded out of a basement in 1994 that now manages $470 million in residential mortgages across Ontario.Ryan and Neal sit down with Greg to talk through what has kept Magenta disciplined for 32 years, why they built a $470 million book with zero commercial, zero construction, and never leaving Ontario, and what drove the decision to finally enter the GTA a year and a half ago. Part two of the MIC series shifts from structure to strategy. Ryan and Neal make the case for why mortgage investment corporations have become one of the most compelling income investments for Canadians who have already won the real estate game and are looking for somewhere to put the proceeds. They break down where MICs sit in the investment spectrum (between government bonds and equities), who is actually investing in them (it skews heavily toward boomers and recently exited real estate investors), and why the 9.2% average returns in 2024 and 7.7% in 2025 are pulling in institutional capital alongside individual investors. They also go deep on the risks most people overthink: redemption gates, borrower default rates (around 2-3% in alternative lending), and what actually causes a MIC to blow up. Not every failure means investors lose money. Defaults are not the same as losses, and a fund that gates redemptions may be doing exactly what it should be doing.Neal runs through the questions every investor should ask before putting money into a MIC: average loan to value, property types, first versus second mortgages, portfolio diversification, how loans are sourced, historical default experience, and how experienced the management team actually is. Plus one red flag worth knowing: a MIC chasing rapid growth is almost certainly lowering its underwriting standards to get there.Show Chapters:2:00 Today: The Investment Side of MICs 2:38 Where MICs Fit in the Investment Spectrum 5:11 The Compounding Math Nobody Talks About 6:32 GICs, Bonds, and Equities vs a MIC 10:02 Why Investors Love Monthly Income 13:09 Volatility Is Driving Investors Out of Equities 13:42 Who Actually Invests in MICs 14:19 9.2% Returns in 2024, 7.7% in 2025 15:36 Understanding the Real Risks 18:39 Redemption Gates Aren't a Red Flag 19:23 When MICs Have Failed or Struggled 21:20 Not All MICs Are Equal: What to Evaluate 24:57 Defaults Are Not the Same as Losses 28:16 Is a MIC Right for You? 30:00 Red Flag: Beware of Rapid GrowthResources:Keystone Capital GroupCPLP Instagram: @cplpodcastKeystone Instagram: @keycapgroupFind Neal On:Instagram: @neal.andreinoLinkedIn: Neal AndreinoFind Ryan on:LinkedIn: Ryan MacNeilE-mail: ryan@keycap.ca

In the first episode of Two Mics, No Masking, Katie Scott and Jenna Goldstein explore one of the most familiar experiences for neurodivergent people: being told you're simultaneously "too much" and "not enough."From being labelled "too sensitive," "too loud," or "too intense" to constantly hearing "try harder" or "calm down," Katie and Jenna reflect on the impossible expectations placed on neurodivergent people. Together they explore how these messages shape identity, relationships, parenting, and the ways we learn to mask ourselves just to fit in.

What makes a voiceover audition feel bookable — and what makes casting hit pause? George the Tech sits down with Kim Hurdon of KH Casting for a deep conversation about the casting side of voiceover, especially in video games, animation, and remote audition workflows. Kim explains why human performance still matters most, why over-editing can hurt more than help, and how actors can avoid sounding processed, artificial, or disconnected from the role. They also explore the post-COVID home studio divide, the value of hub studios and engineers, video game realism, effort sounds, PCAP, inclusive casting, NDAs, and why booking often comes down to fit — not just skill. Send us Fan MailTreatment Website:https://ambio.life/Documentary: https://www.inwavesandwarfilm.com/A lot of people talk about PTSD like it's only flashbacks and bad dreams. Bill describes something darker and quieter: sitting in church, worshiping, and still getting hit with suicidal ideation so loud it feels like a command. He's a professional counselor who works mostly with veterans, and he's also a pastor, which makes his story even harder to ignore. He knows the clinical language, the coping patterns, and the church expectations and he admits what it's like to keep it together at work while falling apart at home. The conversation turns when Bill sees a friend return from Mexico after a medically supervised psychedelic-assisted treatment for PTSD and substance use. That friend looks different: sober, steadier, and more alive. Bill takes us through the questions Christians ask about mind-altering substances, the scriptures he wrestles with, and why “controlled treatment” isn't the same thing as self-medicating. He also talks about spiritual preparation, prayer, and staying grounded in faith inside a space that often mixes New Age ceremony, breathwork, and alternative healing language. From screening, EKGs, and medication restrictions to sweat lodges, ibogaine, and 5-MeO-DMT, Bill breaks down what the process actually looks like and what it cost him emotionally. He shares the trauma that surfaced, the way control kept showing up as the real battle, and the moment he felt God push him to stop hiding who he is. On the other side, he reports concrete changes: no suicidal ideation, better sleep, fewer intrusive images, less anger, and a renewed daily routine that protects his marriage and his mind. If this story challenges you, share it with someone who needs hope, and check the links in the description for the resources we mention. Billy Bush — host of Hot Mics with Billy Bush (live Mon–Thu, 12PM ET on TuneIn Radio & YouTube) — joins Donny for a candid, no-filter conversation about life after the Today Show, building his own media brand, and why independent digital media is the future of broadcasting. Billy opens up about his very public fall from television's top tier and the painful personal journey that ultimately led him back — stronger, more authentic, and finally free from corporate media constraints. He reflects on what it truly means to hit rock bottom, rebuild from scratch, and find purpose on the other side. Then the gloves come off. Billy and Donny go deep on the biggest stories dominating the headlines: Trump's character vs. policy debate, the U.S. strikes on Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, the 2026 midterms and Democratic Party identity crisis, the Savannah Guthrie missing mother case, and NBC's awkward handling of its own story. They also unpack the seismic shift in celebrity culture — why Gen Z knows Alix Earl and Mr. Beast better than any Hollywood A-lister — and what authenticity really means in the creator economy.
