Transformative Truth: Jesus Christ is our “Everlasting Father” For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. - Isaiah 9:6 BLESSED BE THE NAME: Part Three: "Everlasting Father" Isaiah 9:6 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a *voice from heaven* said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased." - Matthew 3:16-17 1. Jesus Christ is the founder and head of the household of faith. Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. - Isaiah 53:10 2. Jesus Christ is the benevolent protector and provider for his people. 3. Jesus Christ will never let us down. Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." So we can confidently say, "The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?" - Hebrews 13:5-6

Preaching Point: Recognizing Jesus' role as the Everlasting Father requires a careful inspection of God's covenant promises to King David & Father Abraham so that we have confidence knowing both promises find their ultimate fulfillment in Christ.Main Text: Isaiah 9:6Teaching Points: 1.) Heighten Your View of Jesus v6 2.) Admit Jesus is Your Only Way into God's Family v6 Application Questions:1.) Write down one observation you found particularly helpful from this week's sermon.2.) Read Revelation 11:15 & Philippians 2:9–11. How do these two verses help you heighten your view of Jesus? a.) What specifically changes in your day to day life when you have a heightened view of Jesus?3.) Read John 14:6 & Galatians 3:13–16. How do these two scriptures explain how people can inherit a place in God's eternal family through the blessing of God to Abraham that is fulfilled in Jesus? a.) How should the ultimate fulfillment of God's promise to Abraham through Christ help you appreciate God's commitment to keeping His word? b.)What are the implications for us if we know God will keep His word concerning everything He has said to us in the Bible, especially concerning the return of Jesus and the world's future judgment?4.) Read Revelation 7:9–10. God's promise to Abraham was ultimately fulfilled in Christ, in whom the whole world finds its blessing. So how does the scene in Revelation 7:9-10 show the result of God's abundant blessing to people worldwide who trust in Jesus?

“And His Name Shall be Called: Everlasting Father (Isaiah 9:6)" | 12/11/22 by WestHillsChurch
Originally aired December 21, 2020.In this episode we are going to unwrap the depths of Isaiah 9:6 as a present from God for the first Christmas.Isaiah 9:6: "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."We look at each phrase and cross reference to see that it is a prophecy of the Messiah. We also compare it with Isaiah 7:14 to verify that the Messiah would be truly born of a virgin. We put other possible fulfillments to the test such as King Hezekiah, Isaiah's son, or someone unknown from history. We challenge ourselves to remember that the ultimate purpose of Jesus' coming is to be the king over the earth. His suffering and atonement secures his citizenry. We look at the name of the son as "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." We find each part of this name describing God in the book of Isaiah. We take on challenges against the incarnation and the deity of Christ as we explore this marvelous Hebrew name.Sources Cited:Zhava Glaser, "Almah: Virgin or Young Maiden?"
