There's a lot going on in the local beer scene, but unfortunately, we also have some sad news. Two beloved spots in Buffalo's craft community are closing their doors.Illumination Meadery Closing: Operating out of Mortalis Brewing's Niagara Street taproom, Illumination Meadery has announced their closure due to rising costs, shifting demand, and life changes for the owners. They'll have a final sendoff at CollaBEERation Fest on April 5, and until then, you can still grab some of their meads on tap or in bottles.12 Gates Brewing Closing: After nine years, 12 Gates Brewing in Williamsville has also closed. Their announcement reflects on the incredible memories made with their loyal customers. Their sister location in Ellicottville closed last summer, making this an especially tough goodbye for the local beer scene. On a brighter note, here's what's happening in the beer world:Brickyard Brewing's Stained Glass Vol. 1 Returns: This 8.8% Belgian Quad, aged in rum and bourbon barrels, is now available in 375ml corked and caged bottles. Limited to just eight cases, it's available at Brickyard's Lewiston taproom and select retailers.4 The Ward Collab from Old First Ward Breweries: Resurgence, Briarbrothers, Old First Ward, and Frequentem Brewing have teamed up for 4 The Ward, a collab supporting the Old First Ward Community Center. Visit each brewery, grab a pint, complete a punch card, and each completed card means a donation to the center. Running now through St. Patrick's weekend!Hofbrauhaus March Märzen Tapping: On March 6, Hofbrauhaus is teaming up with Witches of the Moonlight for their March Märzen release. Expect live music, a parade, a dance performance, and a rich, malty Märzen on tap. 10% of designated meals go to the YWCA of the Niagara Frontier.CollaBEERation Festival First Collab Beers Announced: The Powerhouse hosts CollaBEERation Fest on April 5, and the first round of collab beers has been revealed. Highlights include a tequila barrel-aged dark lager, a pink lemonade gose, and an Italian pilsner. More details to come.Buffalo Home Show Returns With Happy Hours: The Buffalo Home Show is back March 7-9 and 14-16 with over 300 exhibitors at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. Each Friday night features a different happy hour with beer samplings from Labatt and food from Cabot Cheese. Use code BEER for $4 off tickets. All of this is brought to you by Scott while Brian's on vacation. As always, check out BuffaloBeerLeague.com for the latest news on Buffalo's craft beer scene. Oban took a risk, they aged their whisky in a barrel that once housed a Spanish Fortified Wine called Montilla Fino. This white fortified wine added some interesting characteristics that were similar to Oban's normal 14 yr, but turned the volume up to 100%. Kentucky Bourbon Review! Kentucky Bourbon Review!! See, no one cares. BUT IN FACT, this is a single barrel so you should care. Kentucky Bourbon is a delicate topic with us. We want to appreciate the history of whiskey in America but at the same time acknowledge that there's so many better options outside of Kentucky. That is, unless you get a Single Barrel. Yellow Spot is the older, more astute uncle of Green Spot. I imagine his house lined with mahogany paneling and leather bound books. A completely different experience tasting a more mature Irish Whiskey, to the point where you get confused during the first sniff. It's a great experience, Check out the video to hear the full review! Thank you to our Sponsor Addys Wine and Liquor. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Tires age due to a combination of factors, including exposure to environmental conditions, the materials they are made from, and how they are used. Here are some key points on how tires age: Oxidation: Over time, exposure to oxygen and ozone in the air causes the rubber compounds in tires to degrade. This process, known as oxidation, makes the rubber harder and less flexible, leading to cracks and a decrease in performance. UV Exposure: Ultraviolet (UV) rays from sunlight can break down the chemical bonds in tire rubber, causing the tires to become brittle and crack. This is especially problematic for tires that are not regularly used and are stored outside. Heat: Exposure to high temperatures accelerates the aging process of tires. Heat causes the rubber to lose elasticity and strength more quickly. Tires used in hot climates or on vehicles that generate a lot of heat (e.g., heavy trucks) age faster. Physical Wear: Regular use leads to physical wear and tear, which contributes to the aging process. The tread wears down, and the internal structure can become compromised due to impacts, punctures, and general use. Storage Conditions: How tires are stored significantly affects their aging. Tires stored in cool, dry, and dark conditions age more slowly compared to those exposed to heat, moisture, and light. Chemical Exposure: Exposure to certain chemicals, oils, and solvents can accelerate the aging process of tires by breaking down the rubber compounds. Maintenance: Proper tire maintenance, including regular inflation, alignment, and rotation, can help slow the aging process. Neglecting these aspects can lead to uneven wear and faster deterioration. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Signs of Aging Tires Cracking: Visible cracks on the sidewalls or between the treads are a common sign of aging. Hardening: The rubber becomes harder and less flexible, reducing the tire's grip on the road. Deformation: Bulges or deformities in the tire structure can indicate internal damage and aging. Tread Wear: Worn-down treads reduce traction and can be a sign of an aged tire. Recommendations Regular Inspections: Have your tires inspected regularly by a professional, especially if they are over five years old. Replacement: Tires should generally be replaced every six to ten years, regardless of their appearance, to ensure safety and performance. Proper Storage: If storing tires for an extended period, keep them in a cool, dry, and dark place to slow the aging process. Understanding how tires age can help you maintain them better and ensure your safety on the road. NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: Your Stock Harley Shift Linkage Will Fail At Some Point-Fix It! Caol Ila is one of those distilleries located in Scotland that has a very small but very diehard fan base. Caol Ila is known for being the 'peaty' element in Johnny Walker, but it's so much more than that. The flavors that they have created in this distillery stand out against other Islay Whisky, and can be worthy for multiple sips. Have you had this before? Check out the video to hear the full review! Lagavulin is a peaty, yet gentle scotch. It's the more mature one when compared to it's neighbors (Laphroaig & Ardbeg). Nick Offerman worked with Lagavulin to age their whiskey in a Caribbean Rum Cask, and it just didn't work in our opinion. Have you had this before? Check out the video to find out!
