BOOK SIX 2 CORINTHIANS 4 The Chronological New Testament
In 2 Corinthians 4:7–18, Paul reminds us that the treasure of the gospel has been placed in fragile jars of clay. Our weakness is not an accident or a liability in God's plan—it is the very stage on which His strength is displayed. As we live between the process and the promise, we often feel unfinished, fragile, and worn down. Yet Paul shows us that affliction is not the end of the story. The same God who raised Jesus from the dead is renewing us day by day and preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison. In this message, we discover two life-giving implications: we can be honest in the process, and Jesus is good reason to endure in the process. Our weakness does not disqualify us—it magnifies the surpassing power of God.For more information about Integrity Church, visit our website, http://liveintegritychurch.org Connect with us on social media throughout the week to stay up to date on events and things happening at Integrity! In 2 Corinthians 4:1–6, the apostle Paul reminds us that the gospel is not a clever argument or a well-marketed ideology—it is a true and better story. A story where light breaks into darkness. A story where mercy triumphs over performance. A story where Jesus, not ourselves, is proclaimed as Lord.In a world full of competing narratives—political, cultural, and personal—Paul calls us back to the only story that can truly save. The gospel is true because it is rooted in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. The gospel is better because it brings light to blinded hearts and hope where darkness once reigned. As gospel people, we do not lose heart. We boldly lift up Christ, trusting that the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” is still shining in hearts today. For more information about Integrity Church, visit our website, http://liveintegritychurch.org Connect with us on social media throughout the week to stay up to date on events and things happening at Integrity! Rev. James Harper preaches on 2 Corinthians 4:7-18 as a part of our sermon series, "A Cross-Shaped Life." Life is like a limited television series with no second season, forcing us to confront what we do with our remaining time. While our physical bodies and inner selves are declining due to sin's corruption, God offers hope through spiritual renewal for those who come to Him through Jesus Christ. This renewal happens through regeneration and sanctification, transforming us day by day. To redeem our limited time, we should focus on four key areas: love more by extending love to difficult people, worship more through regular personal and corporate worship, study more by engaging with Scripture, and self-examine more by honestly presenting our struggles to God.
We live in a world that is constantly wearing down—bodies weaken, strength fades, and loss touches every life. The pressure of suffering, the weight of uncertainty, and the quiet anxiety of waiting shape the human experience more than we often admit. Yet Scripture tells a deeper story. Though everything visible is temporary, God is doing an unseen work—renewing his people inwardly, dwelling in them by his Spirit, and preparing a glory that will outlast every sorrow and fear. Second Corinthians lifts our eyes beyond what is breaking down to what God is building up. It calls God's people to live not in retreat or resignation, but with courage, confidence, and faith—walking by what God has promised, not merely by what the world presents.

2 Corinthians 4:6-146 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory displayed in the face of Christ.7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 11 For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body. 12 So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.14 because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you to himself.
For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison. – 2 Corinthians 4:17
In this episode of Understanding 2 Corinthians, Paul unfolds a vision of ministry shaped by perseverance, weakness, and eternal hope. Carrying the treasure of the gospel in fragile jars, believers learn that suffering does not signal defeat but becomes the stage for God's sustaining power. Paul calls the church to fix its gaze beyond present affliction to the unseen realities secured by Christ's resurrection. With the certainty of future glory and the coming judgment seat of Christ in view, Christian life and ministry take on renewed seriousness and courage. What emerges is a portrait of endurance rooted not in human strength, but in resurrection confidence.
Daily Dose of Hope February 19, 2026 Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4 Prayer: Holy God, Almighty Father, the Great I AM, Throughout all time, You are good. Your ways are perfect. Teach us your ways, Lord. Help us to know you better, to know you more. Lord, on our own, we are powerless. We are desperate for your wisdom, love, and mercy. More of you and less of me, Jesus. Amen. Welcome back to the Daily Dose of Hope, the devotional and podcast that goes along with the New Hope Bible reading plan. We have been on a journey through the letters of Paul, working through them chronologically. We started with Galatians, then we walked through I and 2 Thessalonians. We recently finished I Corinthians and now we are in 2 Corinthians. It's been a great journey thus far. Today's reading is 2 Corinthians 4. Paul wants the Corinthians to know that his ministry is not about letters of judgment. Yes, he is sending them a letter of rebuke but that is different from judgment. He disapproves of their actions, but he loves them. Paul wants them to know that his is a ministry of the Holy Spirit. And where the Spirit is, there is freedom that comes from knowing and being transformed by Jesus. The message of Jesus is an amazing treasure that we have been given, but we keep it in jars of clay, our frail, broken bodies. Jars of clay would have been a normal sight in Paul's day. They were basic, earthenware vessels, used for everything from cooking utensils to toilets. They were inexpensive but breakable and could easily be knocked over and damaged. And we, as Christ-followers, get to be the vessels that hold the Good News of Jesus. God chooses to store his greatest treasure in our own weak and flawed human bodies. They aren't too unlike the clay jars, common and fragile. Yet, God chooses us. In all our brokenness, God chooses us. In the mess of the world, God chooses us. In the midst of hardship and oppression, God still chooses us. We get to be the bearers of the greatest news in the history of all humanity. God chooses us. Just let that sink in a bit. Blessings, Pastor Vicki

Rev. James Harper preaches on 2 Corinthians 4:1-6 as part of our sermon series, "A Cross-Shaped Life." Paul's second letter to the Corinthians reveals three transformative truths about faith and spiritual sight. First, our ability to see Jesus as Savior comes entirely from God's mercy, not our own merit or intelligence. Paul recognized that before his conversion, he was spiritually blind and dead, unable to make spiritual decisions on his own. Second, this understanding of God's mercy should lead us to live with both humility and integrity, pursuing noble goals through honorable means. Third, when we truly grasp that salvation comes through mercy alone, it provides unshakeable strength during life's most difficult trials. Paul's transformation from persecutor to missionary demonstrates that God can open anyone's spiritually blind eyes through His mercy. family, Bible, sermon, community
Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. – 2 Corinthians 4:16

BIG IDEA: My weakness + God's power = Resilient life Two Strategies In God's Conspiracy... To Give Us A Hopeful & Resilient Life A) Strategy One: Store Treasure in Clay 1) 2 Corinthians 4:7 (a) 2 Timothy 2:20 - "Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold & silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonor." B) Strategy Two: Make Death Produce Life 2) 2 Corinthians 4:8 - "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed" (b) 2 Corinthians 4:10 - "It's the death of Jesus that we carry in our bodies" (i) Why? 2 Corinthians 4:11 - "So that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies."

Why did Paul consider himself as an "earthen vessel" or a "clay jar"?What sustained Paul despite his distress and pain?Earthen Vessels | 2 Corinthians 4:1-18 | Paul's Second Letter to the CorinthiansOutline | ConversationTherefore, since we have this ministry, just as God has shown us mercy, we do not become discouraged. But we have rejected shameful hidden deeds, not behaving with deceptiveness or distorting the word of God, but by open proclamation of the truth we commend ourselves to everyone's conscience before God. But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing, among whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of those who do not believe so they would not see the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not proclaim ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus' sake. For God, who said “Let light shine out of darkness,” is the one who shined in our hearts to give us the light of the glorious knowledge of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that the extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us. We are experiencing trouble on every side, but are not crushed; we are perplexed, but not driven to despair; we are persecuted, but not abandoned; we are knocked down, but not destroyed, always carrying around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our body. For we who are alive are constantly being handed over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our mortal body. As a result, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you. But since we have the same spirit of faith as that shown in what has been written, “I believed; therefore I spoke,” we also believe, therefore we also speak. We do so because we know that the one who raised up Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus and will bring us with you into his presence. For all these things are for your sake, so that the grace that is including more and more people may cause thanksgiving to increase to the glory of God.Therefore we do not despair, but even if our physical body is wearing away, our inner person is being renewed day by day. For our momentary, light suffering is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison because we are not looking at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen. For what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal (2 Corinthians 4:1-18).

Feeling frail? The greatest Source of strength is available to you. --- Have you ever felt powerless? I have, and it's a horrible feeling. I'm used to being able typically to figure out the challenges that come my way. Sometimes, though, nothing seems to work. As we walk together through 2 Corinthians, we're going to see what true power really looks like. We're going to see in various ways that God's power is made perfect in our weakness, and we're going to see why Paul would say “when I am weak, then I am strong.” Sermon Notes: http://bible.com/events/49556238 Submit a Question: bit.ly/BeyondSundayQuestions
