This is a republishing of an archived episode with Lisanne and Jane of Gould Farm."Gould Farm is a unique and pioneering refuge for people with mental disorders…a place where respect and relationship, work and friends, are central to the healing process. We need many more such places in the world.” — Dr. Oliver SacksFounded in 1913, Gould Farm is the first residential community in the nation dedicated to helping adults with mental health challenges move toward recovery, health, and greater independence through community living, meaningful work, and clinical support. This is a recording of the interview that Cheryl did with Mike Carey at Bristol Waterstones in May. The bulk of the discussion is about Mike's latest novel, Fellside. However, the conversation also strays onto The Girl with All the Gifts, the Felix Castor novels, the X-Men, the Lucifer TV series, and the Steel Seraglio books that Mike wrote with his wife and daughter. Our apologies for the poor sound quality, particularly when picking up audience questions. The event was organized by the Bristol Festival of Literature.

Cheryl interviewed Mike Carey on her Ujima show on the very day that X-Men: Age of Apocalypse premiered in the UK. They do chat a bit about Mike's time writing the mutants later on, but the main thrust of the interview is about Mike latest book. Fellside is set in a women's prison, and deals with issues of prison privatisation and drug addiction as well as being a great ghost story. During the interview Cheryl mentions that she will be interviewing Mike again that evening. A recording of that interview will be online here in a few days.

Welcome to Boozy Book Club: MOVIE MONTH! In this edition of Boozy Book Club we're talking about books and books to movies. If you really enjoy book to movie adaptations, then this is a really great episode for you to listen to. In March we read The Light Between Oceans and Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children, both of which are heading to the big screen this fall. The Light Between Oceans stars Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander and Rachel Wiess, and Miss Peregrine's stars Eva Green and was directed by Tim Burton. Both of them look really incredible. So this month, our book clubbers (Beth, Tiffany, Amy and Anne) discussed how movie adaptations affect our reading of the book. How casting choices affect character as well as delving into which characters we had sympathy for or not. This hangout was recorded on April 4, which was a big day in TN world as the season premiere for Outlander was happening in NYC, so we had a bit of FOMO going on. In fact, Boozy Book Club will be taking a bit of a podcast/hangout hiatus while we spend the next few months having weekly Hangoutlander episodes to discuss the new season of our favorite show. So get ready for regular podcast updates. Our first Hangoutlander episode will be Monday, April 11th at 10pm EST. Don’t miss it. RSVP here And if you love Boozy Book Club, please come along with us this month as we read Fellside by MR Carey. It’s the newest thriller from the author or The Girl with All the Gifts, and while we won’t be doing a live discussion, we will be talking about it on the blog and in our group on Goodreads. So enjoy our discussion about using lube as frizz ease, missing out on the Outlander premiere and oh yeah … books to movies.  Watch the Convo instead Join our Book Club on Goodreads RSVP for our Hangoutlander 201!

For months now you’ve heard me go on and on about Mike Carey’s zombie novel, The Girl With All the Gifts. It’s one of my favorite books in any genre, and I’ve gotten messages of thanks from a lot of you smart people who took my advice and read it. The main course of today’s podcast, from 30:33 to 1:08:22, is an interview with Mike Carey, who also wrote the screenplay for the upcoming movie adaptation. Mike talks about:• How the idea for the novel came about.• What it was like being on set and working on the movie.• His thoughts on writing from a child’s perspective.• Director Colm McCarthy’s commitment to hiring a diverse cast for the movie.• His thoughts on the ending of the book.• How you can read an additional chapter of the book online.• A tease about his next book, Fellside, due out next April.• And much more! Mike is as well spoken as he is a terrific writer, and I know all you TGWATG fans will dig this. And if you haven’t read the book yet, we tried to keep things spoiler-light in the first several minutes of the interview. In the meantime, here’s our Amazon link: The Girl With All the Gifts Also in this episode, Karen gives her thoughts on the recent trailers for FTWD and TWD S6, plus news, and your terrific feedback! Please shop Amazon (walkingdeadcast.com/amazon) to support The Walking Dead 'Cast. It costs the same for you when you use that link, but we get a small kickback. Next join me, Melissa, and Duncan about a week before the FTWD premiere, around August 18, for a preview of that series! Support the show.
