The Radically Genuine podcast welcomes back renowned Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) physician Dr. Adam Urato as he pulls back the curtain on what pregnant women aren't being told about medication risks. Why are doctors spending less than ten minutes on "informed consent" when your child's future is at stake? What caused one medical intervention to be injected into 350,000 pregnant women despite not actually working? Dr. Urato reveals why corporate medicine makes it nearly impossible for physicians to tell patients the truth and explains his bold mission to change FDA labeling. This conversation will force you to question everything you thought you knew about "safe" medications during pregnancy.Chapters00:00 The Vulnerability of Unborn Children02:30 Introduction of Dr. Adam Urato04:08 The Case of McKenna: A Systemic Failure11:17 The Need for Rigorous Safety Evaluations16:33 Chronic Disease Epidemic and Chemical Exposures23:16 Mental Health and Pregnancy: A Complex Debate39:14 Fear Provocation and Informed Consent43:20 Informed Consent and Patient Empowerment46:36 The Challenges of Time in Medical Practice53:09 Risks and Benefits of Psychiatric Medications01:01:05 The Role of Physicians in Patient Advocacy01:06:04 Citizen's Petition and FDA Labeling Changes01:18:00 The Importance of Open Dialogue in Medicine RADICALLY GENUINE PODCASTDr. Roger McFillin / Radically Genuine WebsiteYouTube @RadicallyGenuineDr. Roger McFillin (@DrMcFillin) / XSubstack | Radically Genuine | Dr. Roger McFillinInstagram @radicallygenuineContact Radically GenuineConscious Clinician CollectivePLEASE SUPPORT OUR PARTNERS15% Off Pure Spectrum CBD (Code: RadicallyGenuine)10% off Lovetuner click here—-----------FREE DOWNLOAD! But what makes this conversation especially powerful is how deeply his insights apply beyond romantic partnerships — to how we engage in tough conversations with those we disagree with.In this episode, you'll discover:✅ Why communication isn't the root problem in many relationships✅ How anxiety disrupts connection and meaningful dialogue ✅ Why tolerating discomfort is essential to emotional intimacy ✅ How ideas lead to growth, but ideologies often create rigidity ✅ The impact of confirmation bias on both romantic and political conversations ✅ Why faith in others' humanity is foundational for bridging divides ✅ How the tools of couples therapy can strengthen civil discourseWe also discuss Bruce's podcast with his wife Judy, Couples Therapy in Seven Words, where they explore love, faith, and what it means to truly connect in a world that often prioritizes being right over being human.Key Takeaways:✅ Emotional connection requires vulnerability, not just technique✅ Communication “problems” are often anxiety in disguise✅ Real transformation comes from deep listening and mutual respect✅ The goal of conversation isn't to win — it's to connect✅ We must create shared space for dialogue, even amid disagreementLearn more about and connect with Dr. Bruce Chalmer by getting the full show notes at www.DerateTheHate.comWhat have you done today to make your life a better life? What happens when the principles of law clash with evolving ideologies in academia? Join us today as we delve into the transformative journey of legal education with Rebecca Roiphe, a lawyer, visiting fellow at the Siegel Center for Academic Pluralism, and author of the upcoming book, "The Devil's Advocate: How Law Schools Abandoned the Law."In this compelling episode, Rebecca Roiphe outlines the transformative shifts within legal education over the past fifty years, moving from a focus on rigorous professional training to a mission oriented towards achieving social justice through law. This transformation is significantly influenced by the Critical Legal Studies (CLS) movement, which posits that law is not a neutral framework but rather a tool manipulable by those in power. Rebecca provides a nuanced exploration of how CLS morphed from an intellectual movement into a dominant force in contemporary legal education and its broader implications on the legal profession and democracy. In This Episode:The transformation of legal education over the past fifty yearsImpact of the Critical Legal Studies (CLS) movement on law schoolsThe evolving mission of law schools from professional training to social justiceIntellectual origins and key figures in CLSChallenges within the legal profession due to ideological siloingImplications for the rule of law and democracy About Rebecca:Rebecca Roiphe is a Trustee Professor of Law at New York Law School, focusing on the history and ethics of the legal profession. She has clerked for the First Circuit US Court of Appeals and served as a prosecutor in Manhattan. Her research examines the recent history of law school curricula, particularly how legal education has fostered viewpoint homogeneity. Her upcoming book, The Devil's Advocate: How Law Schools Abandon the Law, will trace changes in American legal education over the past fifty years, highlighting the shift from rigorous training for a service profession to promoting a social justice agenda. Rebecca argues that law schools have moved away from open debate and professional training, contributing to a decline in democratic principles and individual liberty. It's the last conversation of MID, Season Two, with our guest Alison Brahe Daddo. Ali was THE Australian model of the late 80s, on every magazine cover and on many a teenage girl's wall. She had a huge career here and overseas, and then she married the equally famous and swoon-worthy Cameron Daddo, backed right away from the industry, settled in LA and raised a family. Now, as Alison Brahe Daddo, or Ali, as very many of us know her, she's also become just the most honest, interesting voice about midlife and menopause and all the messy challenges it brings us. But in this episode, we're not actually talking about that. We're getting deep about surface stuff. Beauty, whatever it means to us - and let's be honest, there's a sliding scale of how much any of us can ever claim to have felt beautiful, at any age - is a beast in midlife. Because how we wear our age on our face and our bodies can feel so important, so crucial to how the outside world sees us, even as we know it's really the silliest of all our concerns. It often doesn't feel that way. Listen to Holly and Ali discuss how they're feeling, what they're doing about, and where they stand on the mistakes they've made in thinking and talking about our faces and our bodies as we move on through. Welcome to MId, Season 2, Episode 8. Beauty, with Ali Daddo. LINKS: You can follow Ali on Instagram here. Find her books and other projects here. THE END BITS: Share your feedback! Critical thinking is an essential skill in today's divided world and in this conversation with educator and podcaster, Will Reusch, we explore why it's more important than ever. Will shares insights from his years of teaching – discussing the challenges of encouraging students to think critically about complex topics instead of passively accepting dominant narratives. We dive into controversial subjects like left-right dynamics, Trans rights, and the role of social media in shaping perspectives – highlighting how echo chambers and ideological capture fracture communities. Will's mission to create safe spaces for open dialogue and his upcoming initiative, Patterdox, are central to fostering curiosity and empathy in our increasingly polarized society. William Reusch has taught high school social studies in Los Angeles for nearly two decades in several schools that served very diverse populations. He is a University of Austin Mill Institute Teacher Fellow, has worked with organizations like Heterodox Academy, FAIR (Foundation Against Intolerance & Racism), Civic Spirit, and others in his pursuit to bring critical thinking to the world of K-12 & high school education. He is the host of the Cylinder Radio podcast and has expanded his educational reach to utilize social media as a way to promote viewpoint diversity and intellectual inquiry. William is now the founder and lead teacher of the educational platform Patterdox to serve homeschool communities as well as offer supplemental education for all teenagers in the area of social science. —Will's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/willreusch —Will's Website: https://williamreusch.com/ —Patterdox: https://patterdox.com/ —Will's Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cylinder-radio/id1448662116 Resources From The Episode: —Julia Malott Podcast Episode: Transgender Politics and Gender Dysphoria: https://markgroves.com/episode/transgender-politics-and-gender-dysphoria-with-julia-malott/ —Harville and Helen's Podcast Episode: The Couple Who Changed How I Relate: Lessons from the Godparents of Love: https://markgroves.com/episode/the-couple-who-changed-how-i-relate-lessons-from-the-godparents-of-love/ —Harville and Helen's Book: Getting the Love You Want: A Guide for Couples: https://amzn.to/4bPqOuK —Michael Easter Podcast Episodes: From Scarcity to Intentionality: https://markgroves.com/episode/from-scarcity-to-intentionality-with-michael-easter/ & Why We Need Discomfort To Thrive: https://markgroves.com/episode/why-we-need-discomfort-to-thrive-with-michael-easter/ If you want to dive deeper into Mark's content, search through every episode, find specific topics we've covered, and ask him questions, go to his Dexa page: https://dexa.ai/markgroves Themes: Critical Thinking Skills, Will Reusch Podcast, Viewpoint Diversity, Education Reform 2024, Overcoming Political Divides, Left vs Right Debate, Breaking Echo Chambers, Ideological Capture Explained, Open Dialogue in Education, Fostering Curiosity in Students, Social Media Echo Chambers, Political Polarization Solutions, Free Speech in Classrooms, Empathy in Education, Imago Dialogue Model, Patterdox Critical Thinking, Bridging Political Differences, Thought-Provoking Conversations, How to Encourage Critical Thinking This episode is sponsored by: —BON CHARGE: Use code MARKGROVES to save 15% at http://boncharge.com/MARKGROVES —Organifi: Use code CREATETHELOVE for 20% off sitewide at http://www.organifi.com/createthelove Contact us at podcast@markgroves.com for sponsor product support, questions, comments, or just to say hello! This month, I reflect on a unique and transformative experience that took me out of my comfort zone: a salmon fishing retreat on a remote river in my home province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Joined by five incredible individuals— Andrew, Enrique, Geoff, Mark, and Pete —we embraced the opportunity to disconnect from our usual routines and engage deeply with one another. Despite the low water levels limiting our fishing time, we made the most of our days by engaging in profound conversations that touched on everything from politics and religion to social issues like homelessness. It was an eye-opening experience that highlighted the power of authentic, values-driven dialogue among highly accomplished individuals. Listen in as I share the lessons and insights gleaned from this retreat, emphasizing the importance of open and respectful communication even on potentially contentious topics. These five days were a testament to the enriching power of genuine human connections. This episode is not just about the retreat but also about how such experiences can foster personal growth, build strong relationships, and reinforce the core values that drive effective leadership. What You'll Learn: • The immense value of authentic human connection. • The importance of disconnecting to reconnect with our core values. • How to have constructive conflict and mutual respect, even on contentious topics. • Balancing passion with humility: The key ingredients to an engaging conversation and personal growth. • The power of community and diverse perspectives. In this episode (the second of a two-part series), I explore the shadow side of goodness in our society, highlighting how well-intentioned actions can sometimes lead to harm. I examine how ideologies, often cloaked in moralistic beliefs, can stifle open dialogue and contribute to cancel culture and disconnection in our relationships. Through my personal journey in the political landscape, I talk about the importance of seeking truth and engaging with diverse perspectives. Understanding the difference between being a teacher and an educator is important. While a teacher focuses on delivering content, an educator creates a learning environment that encourages curiosity, open-mindedness, and respectful discussions. Fostering these qualities in educational settings helps students think critically and engage deeply with the material. Creating such an environment not only enhances learning but also prepares students to contribute thoughtfully to society. Will Reusch is a pioneering educator on a mission to transform how history and civics are taught. Frustrated by the disconnect between traditional curricula and students' real-world concerns, he developed an innovative approach that brings the past to life through engaging analogies and Socratic questioning. Today, Will talks about his journey from avoiding hardships as a young man to becoming an educator focused on connecting academic content to students' lives and fostering open-minded, civil discourse. Join in as young leaders pose inquiries about life, personal development, and beyond! Quotes: “I think that taking the approach of asking questions is the best way to navigate.” – Will Reusch “The school didn't connect. The teachers didn't relate what I was learning in a history class to my life as a teenager.” – Will Reusch “I think we're all just kind of stumbling around this together, so stay curious.” – Will Reusch Takeaways: Embrace doing hard things - start small and incrementally increase difficulty to build resilience and personal growth. Ask yourself "What is one hard thing I can do today to challenge myself?" Cultivate intellectual humility, genuine curiosity, and grace when engaging in discussions, especially around controversial topics. Seek to understand different perspectives, even if you disagree. As an educator, focus on connecting curriculum to students' real lives and experiences. Use metaphors, analogies, and Socratic questioning to make learning relevant and thought-provoking. Prioritize creating a culture of open dialogue and civil discourse in educational settings. Set clear expectations around intellectual safety vs. ideological safety. Consider supplementing traditional education with alternative, flexible learning platforms that allow for personalized pacing and depth of study. Explore opportunities to collaborate across educational models. Conclusion: Connecting content to students' lives, fostering critical thinking, and maintaining an environment of curiosity and civil discourse are essential for effective education. These practices not only engage students but also encourage deeper understanding and respectful dialogue. By integrating these approaches, educators can create a more dynamic and impactful learning experience.

Burning Man culture brings people together across all kinds of divides. Yet, we're seeing an uptick of intolerance around art and experiences in our community. The default world is often divided by ideology, religion, and politics. Could that division seep into this culture that aspires to welcome everyone and rise above social schisms? As a community, how can we navigate the turbulent waters between, say, Radical Self-expression and Radical Inclusion? How do we walk the line between free speech and hate speech? How do we keep our global community together in times of outright war?Tune into a roundtable discussion about concerns that don't have easy solutions. Four thinkers in the Burning Man global cultural movement explore how the act of conversation changes what might otherwise seem controversial or divisive:• Stuart Mangrum is Burning Man Project's Director of the Philosophical Center so he directed some philosophers to center around a microphone to discuss.• Caveat Magister debated and discussed Burning Man philosophy, then wrote books about it.• Kay Morrison is a veteran Black Rock City artist, active in the Global Network, and a Burning Man Project board member.• Steven Raspa is Associate Director of Community Events for Burning Man Project, and a co-founder of the Regional Network Committee. This conversation concerns art, yes, and behavior — as participants, as people. It's about being open-minded and open-hearted, even when it's difficult to do. What is a safe space? What is a brave space? How can jackassery be respectful? What's with all the questions?
