From super space alcohol to the moon and back!
Brent's out sick (again—we suspect “banana flu”), so Kevin Crispin of Behind Beautiful Things returns to the co-host seat, bravely facing the weird without a net or a breathalyzer.First up: were our primate ancestors a bunch of jungle drunks? New research says our ability to metabolize alcohol might trace back to apes that got buzzed on fermented fruit. Evolution's happy hour, anyone? Then we cast our bleary eyes skyward at Comet 3I (aka ATLAS), which some folks think might not be a comet at all… but an alien probe. Is it just icy space junk—or are E.T.'s creepy cousins doing a flyby? It's an interstellar cocktail of cosmic conspiracy and evolutionary inebriation this week as Kevin and Conspiracy Bot try not to spill their drinks... or their dignity.Links & Resources

Today's Headlines: U.S. GDP grew 3% in Q2, beating forecasts and prompting Trump to once again pressure Fed Chair Jerome Powell to cut rates—though the Fed held steady, with only Trump's appointees voting to lower them. Trump also slapped new tariffs on Brazil and India, making everyday imports like coffee and beef 90% pricier. Meanwhile, on the Epstein beat: a source says the prison footage from the night of his death isn't actually missing, and Senator Chuck Schumer invoked the obscure “Rule of Five” to demand DOJ documents—threatening court action if they're not handed over. Elsewhere in Trump-world, his former defense attorney Emil Bove was confirmed to a lifetime federal judgeship despite whistleblower claims of ethics violations and loyalty purges. The DOJ also dropped a major fraud case against Fatburger's parent company after firing the lead prosecutor, raising eyebrows given the chairman's GOP donations. In other headlines: a historic 8.8 earthquake near Russia triggered tsunami warnings across the Pacific; the FDA issued a recall after High Noon hard seltzers were mislabeled as Celsius energy drinks; and Kamala Harris announced she's not running for California governor in 2026, though she hinted at future plans. Resources/Articles mentioned in this episode: CNBC: U.S. economy grew at a 3% rate in Q2, a better-than-expected pace even as Trump's tariffs hit CNBC: Fed holds interest rates steady: What that means for car loans, credit cards, mortgages and more NBC News: Trump hits India and Brazil with high tariffs, lowers South Korea duties CBS News: There was no "missing minute" in the original Epstein jail video, government source says Axios: Democrats invoke rare Senate rule to force release of Epstein documents CBS News: Senate confirms former Trump attorney Emil Bove as U.S. appeals court judge NBC News: DOJ dismisses case against a Trump donor after White House fired career prosecutor AP News: Tsunami evacuations ordered in South America, but worst risk appears to pass for US after huge quake CNN: High Noon issues a recall after selling some vodka seltzer mislabeled as Celsius energy drinks Axios: Kamala Harris won't run for governor in 2026 Morning Announcements is produced by Sami Sage and edited by Grace Hernandez-Johnson Learn more about your ad choices. In this lively "In Other News" segment, Kim and Marc unpack a bizarre recall involving High Noon Vodka Seltzers being accidentally canned in Celsius energy drink containers—raising concerns about accidental underage or unintended alcohol consumption. Then they roast the Left's meltdown over the American Eagle ad featuring Sydney Sweeney, which some online activists bizarrely labeled as "Nazi propaganda." Kim calls it out as race-baiting nonsense and highlights the real issue: hyper-sexualized marketing to teens. Also covered: PETA sues the Maine Lobster Festival for boiling lobsters alive, which Marc and Kim find laughable. Finally, casting is underway in St. Louis for Love is Blind, leading to some cheeky jokes about blind love and blonde beauty.
Hour 2 kicks off with breaking news: St. Louis County Executive Sam Page has been indicted for using taxpayer-funded mailers to influence his reelection campaign. Marc slams Page's COVID-era power grabs and gives credit to longtime watchdog Tom Sullivan for helping expose the corruption. Next, Fox News Radio's Tanya J. Powers joins to discuss a new drug dubbed “gas station heroin”—a supercharged Kratom derivative that's 13x stronger than morphine and being sold with zero oversight. Then in a classic "In Other News," Kim and Marc hit several bizarre headlines: High Noon Vodka Seltzers mistakenly canned in Celsius energy drink cans, the Sydney Sweeney ad backlash labeled “Nazi propaganda,” PETA suing a lobster festival for cruelty, and Love is Blind casting calls coming to St. Louis.
A New Yorker has died amid a Legionnaires' outbreak in Central Harlem, with more than 20 people sickened. Meanwhile, New York's cannabis regulators are forcing over 100 dispensaries to move or shut down. Plus, Mayor Adams vetoes the City Council's casino ban in the Bronx, and the MTA considers lifting its ban on alcohol ads across subways and buses.

This episode is in partnership with RaconteurIn this episode we get to know the incredible Craig Andrade at one of our favourite fragrance stores @bloomperfumery . Craig is the founder of niche fragrance brand @the_rac_on_teur and his story is both emotional and inspiring.During the episode we learn about the moment in his life that changed everything and took him from being a lawyer in a high-stress environment to being totally immersed in the world of fragrance to the point that he enrolled himself into the Grasse Institute and started his journey as a perfumer and brand founder.Craig's brand is astonishing in a number of ways. Not only does he bring little known Australian botanicals to the fore and give them a beautiful spotlight, but there is a wonderful sense of humour and irreverence. (Craig injects so much of his amazing personality into the brand).Craig is the most passionate and supportive man as you'll hear. He champions everyone in the industry and we feel so lucky that he has also chosen to support our podcast not only for this episode for the next few weeks.During the episode we have our first encounter with his mind-blowingly brilliant collection. Join us as we sniff six gourmands, each with a uniquely Australian twist and some world-first notes that define his frontier perfumery practice: Killr Vanillr — Australians have a bit of a reputation for knowing how to have a good time. This is a scent for 3am — for lovers of late nights and legendary Australian dancefloors. Deep, dark, rich and smokey — a vanilla slice mirror ball. No-Tell Motel — Date night scent — If a dirty martini and spicy margarita hooked up, this would be their motel lock-in. Boozy, flirty, unapologetically fun. Two “world firsts” in fine fragrance: an “olive fruit absolute” extract and a CO2 extract of Tasmanian Mountain Pepper — which introduces a new earthy green facet to the spice family. I pioneered this new spice for the signature scent I designed for Australian pop star, Troye Sivan, and No-Tell Motel continues the story of this rare Tasmanian spice. Pavlova Kasanova — A bittersweet ode to long-distance love, built around Australia's most iconic dessert: the pavlova. Ms. Macadamia — Bold and free-spirited, a scent I designed as a tribute to all the women in my life: Australia's native macadamia nut, native golden wattle, precious orris root and sultry smokey peach. Lord Lamington — A classic cologne, laced with ambition and a slice of Australia's cocoa-dipped nostalgic cake. For those who want to have their cake and eat it. Daintree Rain Tea — A meditative scent inspired by Australia's ancient Daintree Rainforest. Rain, tea and rare blue lotus in quiet communion.AND THIS IS WHERE IT GETS EVEN MORE EXCITINGFor the three episodes that follow this one, Suzy and I will be delving even deeper into these fragrances and we'd love for you to join us.Head to the Bloom Covent Garden website (Or go in store) and purchase one of the amazing Raconteur Discovery Kits via this link . Craig is giving you 10% off with the code onthescent10 . Then join us for an On The Scent sniffalong in each episode, where we can all experience these amazing scents together. The code will work from 19th June 2025 for four weeks. We can't wait to go on this journey with you xx

The RTD cocktail segment has experienced massive success in recent years, helped by its convenient format and the rise of the at-home cocktail occasion during the “Great Shutdown” era. But while the RTD cocktail market has seen an abundance of new entrants, as it predictably followed my CPG industry adage that “strong demand growth breeds intense commercialization activity,” there have been smarter and more effective launches as the category matures and has a clearer view of the consumer. And it appears these RTD cocktail drinkers are selecting health-conscious products with premium ingredients and flavorful options…oftentimes seeking a fun, refreshing taste of their childhood with an adult beverage spin. Moreover, A LOT of categorical success is in recreating or reimagining something where there's already consumer behavior. And that was a key motivating factor behind Adam Kost creating Dirty Shirley, a nostalgic yet boozy twist to the classic Shirley Temple beverage we've likely all enjoyed growing up. Last year, Dirty Shirley, which contains organic cherry juice, natural flavors, and super premium vodka, grew almost 1000% YoY. Yet, as you'll hear in our conversation, Dirty Shirley is only getting started by continuing to thoughtfully expand markets and creating a variety of powerful strategic retail and brand partnerships. Over a carafe of Picpoul de Pinet, Coburn tells Sascha about keeping calm amid the din of politicians rowing with one another live on air. She discusses the most poignant episodes – and the rowdiest. And Coburn reflects on 28 years at the BBC and how it's political programming has changed to reflect a more "visceral" environment in Westminster post-Brexit. Jo hints at how she might approach her life after the BBC, explaining that "old habits die hard" when it comes to keeping her distance from her own views. Learn more about your ad choices. Tabbin is on a mission to shake up booze-soaked workplace culture -but her own journey with alcohol was anything but smooth. After going alcohol-free for years, a cancer diagnosis sent her back to the bottle, even though drinking may have played a role in her illness.Like so many, her drinking started at work – where long lunches and late nights weren't just accepted but expected. Now, she's challenging the norms that make alcohol a workplace staple, so others don't fall into the same trap.Welcome to The Next Round, where we dive into why we started drinking, how that history shapes our future, and what an alcohol-free life can really look like. From personal challenges to changing the world (or at least your office happy hour), there's more on the other side than you ever imagined.Meet Tabbin Almond -an ex-advertising pro who knows firsthand how the industry's macho, drink-fuelled culture can spiral out of control. She yo-yoed between sobriety and drinking for years, but now she's free and fighting to create healthier, more inclusive workplaces. Let's get stuck in!She believes that drinking should not be an expectation in corporate environments, nor should it be a measure of professional success or sociability.“It starts out as a perk of the job, but it becomes a requirement of the job.”For years, she worked in industries where drinking was not only normalised but encouraged. Client entertainment meant keeping up with drinking expectations, and refusing a drink could be seen as a lack of team spirit.“Do you check with somebody before you send a gift, whether or not they drink alcohol? The most common reply is, no, who doesn't love a bottle of bubbly?”She challenges workplaces to rethink corporate gifting, expense policies, and the psychological safety of employees who may struggle with alcohol. She argues that alcohol should not be the default, nor should abstaining from it come with stigma.“If leaders don't lead on this, there's no psychological safety for people saying, ‘Do you think I could have a bit of help?'”You can buy Tabbin's Book: Bottling Up Trouble: How alcohol is harming your business… and what to do about itUKUSACanadaAustraliaFind Club Soda:The Club Soda Tasting Room is at 39 Drury Lane, London, WC2B 5RRFind us on Instagram

Send us a textIn July 1999, Mary Stetson went out for a much needed night on the town. When she didn't return home, her kids knew something bad had happened. Their worst fears came true two days later when some folks enjoying a day on the river found a duffle bag holding horrific cargo. Also, the fake name was Jeffrey/Jeff…sounds like “Jesk” hehehePatreon: https://www.patreon.com/badactspodPodMoth: https://podmoth.network/Ad: Brutal, Bizarre, and Boozy – https://open.spotify.com/show/44Z9VDxjEVGpbPBkYzQorh?si=0556a1a9b65048bd&nd=1&dlsi=6bec814ef3a949bb Episode Source List:https://caselaw.findlaw.com/court/nh-supreme-court/1006043.html https://casetext.com/case/plch-v-coplan-2 https://www.unionleader.com/news/crime/nov-15-2000-plch-convicted-of-murder-sentenced-to-life-in-prison/article_e5df7b51-95a4-5fe7-9821-e800c4d6777e.htmlhttps://www.nhpr.org/nh-news/2013-09-20/anatomy-of-a-murder “River Monster.” Swamp Murders.
