Thank god it's femslash... part two! This week, in lieu of a minisode, V and Emily were joined by jarrow, the founder of FaberryCon and TGIF/F (see Episode #111), for a lengthy chat about all things femslash. We talk migratory (fem)slash fandom; subtext; female friendships and friend-ships; and why the death of the 22-episode season is killing shipping, especially for noncanonical pairings. Femslash has a parallel history to slash fandom, and it's one that we don't get to talk about nearly enough on this show, so it was a delight to skip the shallow wading and get right to the deep dive. Thank you, jarrow! Find out more about TGIF/F at http://www.tgifemslash.com. This Week In Fandom History is a fandom-centric podcast that tells you… what happened this week in fandom history! Thank god it's femslash! This week, Emily and V discuss the absolutely pie-in-the-sky delightful FaberryCon, a long-running convention dedicated to Quinn Fabray/Rachel Berry in the Glee fandom, a noncanonical femslash ship. Then, even more delightfully, after the end of Glee, the conventioneers transformed the experience into @tgifemslash, a multi-fandom, ship-neutral, femslash convention OF DREAMS that is still ongoing! We take a look at the absolute pinnacle of con panel planning, cute vidshows, and why a small, niche audience is almost always better than trying to please everyone. Have you ever been to, or hosted, a ship-centric con? Let us know on our Tumblr! Up, up, and... oh no. This week, V and Emily look at yet another fandom whose femslash juggernaut OTP got dealt an unfair hand by TPTB, in looking at the fallout of the Supergirl Season 2 Musical Recap from San Diego ComicCon 2017. So much rage. So much disappointment. So much annoyance. Why can't femslashers have nice things?! It's time for another Femslash episode! This will be our first ship featuring Cho Chang, and we knew it would be so much fun pairing her up with Ginny Weasley! In this episode, cultural studies scholar Dr. Swati Moitra talks to us about reading cultures, women's travel in the 19th century, and the subversive potential of femslash fanfiction.‘In Perspective' is The Swaddle's podcast series where academics reveal little-known facts about Indian history, society and culture. Notes: 00:01:03:11- In 19th century Bengal, what were the anxieties around ‘modern' women travelers? And how did these anxieties make their way into popular writings and art at the time? 00:11:15:04- How did the travel writing of Kailashbashini Debi enable her to claim a voice in public space and advocate for the restructuring of domestic life?00:19:15:18- How did communitarian reading groups in colonial Bengal assert the importance of reading as a leisurely practice for Bengali women? And how did this shape the ideal of the Bengali bhadra mahila (the ideal, chaste woman)?00:29:00:20- How has print culture been impacted by the changes in contemporary reading cultures? 00:34:43:19- What do instances of enforcement of morality tell us about society's discomfort with women being in public?00:39:35:22- What is femslash fiction? How can we understand it in the context of Indian popular culture? Can subcultures like femslash contribute to queer visibility in India?
We're not gonna take it anymore! This week, Emily and V delve into righteous -- and rightful -- fannish anger at the constant, demoralizing, dehumanizing deaths of lesbian characters on television, and the straw that broke the fandom camel's back: the death of Lexa on The 100. Fans turned their heartbreak and rage over yet another dead WLW into a truly amazing, awe-inspiring call to action. Do you know how many dead WLW there were on TV in the season surrounding Lexa's murder? Do you want to cry your face off with your co-hosts this week?
Happy Femslash February! This week, V and Emily go back ten years to the introduction of an annual fandom holiday: Femslash February. Whether you're devout or just dipping your toes into the spiritual waters of femslash celebration, this episode goes hard on preaching the gospel of all things F/F. Why should dudes get all the attention? Also, just how shameful is the filthy tangent in the middle of the ep?
Back-to-back (not so) minis! This week, Gabs and Liz return to the fun, beautiful, statistical world of Omegaverse. Topic: My Little Pony Review / Fandom Previously, we did a tutorial on My Little Pony and the more recent incarnation of the series, Friendship Is Magic. Now, My Little Pony isn't actually nerdy; it's down right mainstream if you think about it. But I wanted to use this topic, something Most people are generally aware of to discuss and get to Fandom, in particular the culture of the Brony, along with discussing some aspects of Fandom media, including Fanfics, FanArt, FanVideo, and Fan-media as a whole. Review Material Netflix Season 1: Episodes 1 & 2 Episode 6 Episode 13 Episode 25 Bronies? Started on 4chan, derivative of 2chan in Japan. 4chan is a semi-popular, underground hub for discussion on various topics of media, from memes, to shows, and often random and bizarre fandoms and interest. Often blamed for mobilizing though pranks, coordinating attacks on other websites; trolling comes from this website often. Initially criticized by Amid Amidi(Animation news website) for being a toy-centric cartoon with major talent behind it in frost. The essay created a backlash as more people started looking in to it, and soon pony related media/memes were so dominate on the website that they had to ban any threads. Originally Liked Ironically, later loved because of the characters, stories, and honesty in the show. Bronies are unique amongst fandom as most fandoms are exclusive those in the know, while Bronies appear to be mostly inclusive, wanting more people inside, despite the weird or unusual. Possible reasons for bronies? Brony Studies "so much cynicism and negativity out there in so many [other] shows" while the show "has such a positive message" Equestria Daily, major MLP:FIM fandom website. Fanfics, Fan-Art, Fan-Animations, Fan Music First major fanfics were about Star Terk Similar Japanese dōjinshi, Japanese made comics using other characters/settings that are copyright. Terms: Mary Sue: author insert or wish fulfillment, Shipping: setting two character up together that may or may not naturally get together romantically Slash Fiction: Primarily romantic/sexual relationships between men. Femslash, for women. Smut: Primarily Explicit/pornographic writings, see Hentai Crossover/fusion: when blending two different settings/casts/franchises. Not explicitly illegal, more or less agreed that so long as you aren’t making money off of it, you’re okay. Some authors/creators okay with it, not all though. Most famous fanfic: 50 Shades of Gray, fanfic of Twilight series. PMV (Pony Music Video) Similar to an AMV (Anime Music Video) BronyCon Set in New York/New Jersey. Fan created convention to promote fandom. Likely to end after 2019. Merchandise: Figurines Dvds Blind Bags Stuffed Animals Clothing Lots of Fan Created stuff Discussed items: Fanfiction.net Equestria Daily PMV - Pony Polka

BUBBLINE TIME can I get a Yas YAS. Becky holds nothing back as she expresses her undying love for both Princess Bubblegum aka/ Bonnibel and Marceline. Bass bitches gotta support eachother, you know wha' 'm sayin'? YOU KNAH WHA I' SAYI'?!? Femslash love festival but tbh I legit never talk about femslashes at all or give any specific recommendations. I expect ya'll to take care of that yourselves. If you're into femslash, you already know where it is and how to find it. Lets be real, fuckers. Also like legit people are pickier about femslash than they are about porn, so what I like is gonna be so irrelevant. HI. WE'RE BACK. For those of you who didn't listen to our apology, Kera had to have her baby early so that's where we've been. Hoping to be back on a slightly better schedule. ANYWAY. Slash and Burn is a comedy podcast about fanfiction! Our hosts, Kera and Steve read and discuss fanfics they've gathered from the internet. This week's episode is Femslash, as suggested by listener Hayley, thanks Hayley! We've got stories from Vampire Diaries, Orange is the New Black, Peanuts, Super Smash Bros., Law and Order: SVU, and others. As always, this podcast contains very explicit content not meant for most adults, let alone children. You've been warned. Welcome to the magical realm.
Now that F4F has not only marked its fourth anniversary of being on the air, but also entered its final month of broadcasting, we’ll be spending all of June celebrating that which made this program great. Don’t worry, no self-congratulation here, of course I’m talking about the guests. For each show in June, we’ll have on four (and occasionally five) guests who made at least one prior appearance to talk about what they’ve been up to since then. Maybe they’ve continued to write fanfic for the same television show. Maybe they’ve moved onto something new, and moved again. Maybe it’s original fiction now. Or maybe they’ve stopped writing altogether. We’ll also be returning to the show’s roots by hosting shows weekly instead of biweekly, so that’s sixteen former guests, each speaking for fifteen minutes at a time. Tonight we only have three guests so far, as one dropped out, but we're hoping to find a replacement before then. As of right now we begin with Sweetjamielee (who first appeared on F4F on 5/12/2011) at 10 PM EST, followed by BurningEden (8/6/09) at 10:15, and Dhamphir (2/25/10) at 10:45 PM. Tune in, because really, someone just might be talking about whatever thing you love best. And because after tonight, you might not have another chance.

As F4F Radio winds to a close next month, we take time in May to wrap up an ongoing program tradition where we discuss “Xena: Warrior Princess” every six months. This tradition started with an interview of three prominent Xena fanfic and “uberfic” authors in January 2010, followed by three more in June. Due to the fandom’s enduring and massive popularity, this eventually metamorphosed into annual May and November segments where author interviews gave way to panel discussions with authors and fans about Xena, the heroines, the villains, the storylines, the comedy, the everything! Tonight we’ll have one last panel where the conversation will fittingly include Xena’s final episodes, as well as the way the series continues to influence fans to this day. Once again I’ll cede my place as host to author/filmmaker Kim Pritekel, a treasured and reliable contributor to this program whose role has evolved from being a guest on that June show, to recurring cohost, to regular moderator of the Xena panels. Also returning from past panels will be hardcore fans Adm_Hawthorne, Kelly Neal, Zea Apa, and Chris Salameno. Join us as we take one final look at how Xena changed lives, before F4F Radio draws its own conclusion in June.
