Whether he's helping shape a brand-new show or breathing life into real people onstage, Caesar Samayoa brings authenticity and heart to every role. In this conversation, Caesar shares what it's like building Just in Time from the ground up—balancing daily rehearsals with nightly performances, and trusting in the collaborative energy of a veteran cast. He opens up about the emotional weight of portraying real people, the lessons learned from immersive productions, and the beauty of audience connection—especially when someone's first or last theatre experience is in his hands. Caesar reflects on his early influences, growing up as a first-generation American, and how a performance of Peter Pan set him on a path toward the stage—despite starting college with plans to study Japanese and international relations. He dives into working with Alex Timbers across four productions, the power of vulnerability in rehearsal, and how How to Dance in Ohio and Come From Away expanded his understanding of representation, empathy, and creative freedom. Caesar Samayoa's Broadway credits include Just in Time, Come From Away, Sister Act, The Pee-wee Herman Show, and How to Dance in Ohio. A native New Yorker, she has toured the world with pop/glam band Scissor Sisters and has performed with Bright Light Bright Light and Slow Knights. Starring in LGBTQ romantic classic “Walk with Me,” as a singer/songwriter, featured on the original album as well. As a singer, she has also opened for Lady Gaga, and has shared the stage with Drag legends Joey Arias, Murray Hill, and more. She worked closely with Baz Luhrmann as the voice of Misty Holloway on the Netflix show “The Get Down.” Bridget has released singles with the House DJ/producer legend Todd Terry as well as numerous of her own singles. As a child actress, she has appeared in countless commercials and Sesame Street. She has starred in HBO's Everyday People, Sherrybaby, Redacted, God's Pocket, Steven Soderbergh's The Knick and had a recurring role as a one-legged “hooker” on Law & Order: SVU. On stage, Barkan has appeared in numerous productions including Dog Sees God and alongside Lea Michelle in a workshop of Spring Awakening.  "Heartbroken Ones” was a practice in healing, purging, and processing what Barkan was going through. “It helped me get through one of the worst moments of my life. It was the acceptance I was singing to myself,” Barkan explains. “All that mattered was releasing the pain that this indiscretion had caused.” Working with producer Austin Bello (Nikki Pope, FNKHOUSER, Goldvein) again  who worked on her previous single “Good Things” and singer songwriter Poet Hawkins, she crafted the song in “a more old soul approach at first. But then I kept listening to my friend Natti Vogel's song ‘FAB (Free Ass Bitch),' which also was a healing song, which had a more pop and synth based energy, so we went in that direction, instead. We took parts of a voice memo and created a soundscape which really captured the inner world I was in.” A regular in the NYC artsy pop underground that includes Bright Light Bright Light, Xavier Smith, and John Cameron Mitchell among many others, Bridget is a “Jill of All Trades” on a one woman journey through life, love and loss. She also formerly toured the world with Scissor Sisters and can be seen in their earth-shattering “Let's Have A Kiki” video as one of Ana Matronic's crew. Having inherited her father's knack for songwriting, Bridget's intrinsic artistry and talent is a legacy she proudly carries. *****If you would like to contact the show about being a guest please email us at Dauna@bettertopodcast.comFollow us on Social MediaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomAudio production by Rich Zei of Third Ear AudioIntro and Outro music compliments of Fast Suzi©2025 Better To...Podcast with D. Another Paternity Leave Installment, and we're turning to an episode where we spoke at length about an issue that's particularly germane to what's happening now. Patreon payments are frozen for the time being. A few resourceful new Munchies have figured out a work-around where you can join as a free member and upgrade from there to a paid account which charges you for one month and unlocks the back catalog behind the respective tier of the paywall. This leads the Munchie Boys to investigate just what started this anti-vax MMR-causes-autism nonsense that's since metastasized in much more widespread and nefarious ways. Don't worry, there's also plenty of fun to be had, including (but not limited to) the virtues of Susie Essman, the horrors of opening montage music, the hilarious inappropriateness of filmed teenage sex parties, and the watercooler TV-watching habits of the dedicated detectives of the Special Victims Unit. Is this the scariest episode of SVU in Munchstory? Send us a textThis week, Randee Dawn stops by to discuss music, Law & Order SVU, her brief time on the road with Radiohead, her books and so much more.***Randee is a Brooklyn-based author and journalist focusing on speculative fiction across the categories (science-fiction, fantasy, and horror) at night while writing entertainment and lifestyle stories during the day for publications including Today.com, NBCNews.com, Variety, The Los Angeles Times, and Emmy Magazine. You may have seen her name in other publications over the years, including Soap Opera Digest and The Boston Phoenix, E! Online, New Musical Express, and Mojo. She contributed to a French book about American television. She's got a fair amount of short fiction in anthologies and authored the short story/poetry compilation Home for the Holidays. In The Only Song Worth Singing, the power of friendship is one of the major themes blended with myth and the power of music. Imagine Irish folklore combined with mysticism – makes for a magical read.Author Randee Dawn tells the story of three best friends and bandmates from Ireland who set off on their first U.S. tour in the 90s, but have no idea they're being pursued by mythological characters with supernatural powers.Critics call it one of the most entertaining and truthful representations of the music touring world, while the author really makes readers believe there are mystical creatures with the trio on tour.Randee spends much of her time in the evening focusing on speculative fiction across categories like sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, while writing entertainment and lifestyle stories during the day for publications that include Today.com, NBCNews.com, Variety, The Los Angeles Times, and more.Photo: Dflux Photography******If you would like to contact the show about being a guest please email us at Dauna@bettertopodcast.comFollow us on Social MediaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomAudio production by Rich Zei of Third Ear AudioIntro and Outro music compliments of Fast Suzi©2025 Better To...Podcast with D.
