The mid-century modern aesthetic of the movie fits in well with the Tomorrowland 60s theme. The H.E.R.B.I.E. character is a marvel of in-park animatronics as it rolls around on one wheel. The characters are meeting outside the Tomorrowland Theater for a limited time. There is also a projection show now through September 21st of Space Mountain's exterior to celebrate the Fantastic Four. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/fantastic-four-first-steps-disney-parks/ Of course with the arrival of the Fantastic Four, there are a number of food, beverage, and novelties. {talk about the food options} For the novelties, there is a Fantastic Four: Clobberin' Sipper, and a Mister Fantastic Straw Clip. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/disney-eats-the-fantastic-four-first-steps-best-bites/ Weeklyteers who are unable to visit Disneyland for the 70th anniversary have an alternate option. Designer Marceline Leiman joins the show for an episode that ebbs and flows in such an engaging way, much like the tides and other marvels in nature. Amongst many other games, Marceline recently designed High Tide, which was an extreme success at the Indie Games Night Market and serves as an anchor for much of this conversation. The game was handcrafted with so many unique considerations and stories that I was fortunate enough to hear, and you will be able to too now. In addition to this indie market release, there will be a subsequent production through Underdog Games! I'm by no stretch an expert in the tides (or the ocean, or much of anything for that matter), but my cursory “research” shows that the biggest waves typically come in right before high tide. And a wave is an apt descriptor of how Marceline has been creating lately, with many things to look forward to from her. Grab yourself a tea (or coffee) and enjoy a wonderful episode.Check out Marceline on Bluesky and BoardGameGeek Intro and Character/Craft/Creation (0:00)TeaSeeing something and feeling the human creation that went into itThermostat boxes“I [the tide] am inevitable.” (35:18)After discussing a lot of the physicality and process of creating everything needed to play the game, Marceline dives into stories of how the game plays–how a main focus was the intentionality of having the game constantly moving forward.“To Indie or Not to Indie?” (50:00)This sub-header probably isn't the most apt, but I liked it.Anyway, Marceline reflects on researching games throughout history, the purposefulness of seeing those connections in modern games, and how that's being worked into her designs.Bluer Skies Ahead (1:12:50)In addition to appreciating Marceline's designs, I cannot overstate how thoughtful her social media presence is. The threads read like stories and touch on game design, social issues, the overlap between them, and a multitude of other things. Thank you, Marceline!Wrap-up Questions (1:30:27)A text on Marceline's mine and future games to look out for.***The cover image is currently a picture from Marceline, posted on BGG and elsewhere. As I like trying to personally make unique episode images, I have a plan for something here (just not the time, as I want this one to be really good/different; there are a couple others I want to go back and redo). Regardless, this is a gorgeous picture, and you get to see the awesome production of the game from it being the current image.***-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you like this show, liking it on whatever platform you listen to and writing a review would mean so much! Would this story aide in the development of the overall plot and/or character development? DIZNEY COAST TO COAST - The Ultimate Unofficial Disney Fan Podcast
Disney fans rejoice. On this episode, I'm chatting with Ed Comber from Next Stage Preservation. At Next Stage Preservation, they're working to bring Marceline, Missouri's Uptown Theatre back to life. Marceline, Missouri is the boyhood hometown of Walt Disney, and the Uptown Theatre is a cinema on Marceline's Main Street where Walt and Roy premiered “The Great Locomotive Chase”. The Uptown Theatre has a long history, but sadly, in recent years it has fallen into disrepair. A lot of money and work will need to go into bringing it back to life, and Ed is working hard to make that a reality. He's already had some success getting the Uptown Theatre on the National Register of Historic Places, which is no small feat. Listen as Ed and I discuss the theatres' history, the small town of Marceline, Missouri, and what Ed envisions for the reopening of the theatre during its 100th anniversary. That and so much more on this episode. ------ GIVEAWAYS, BONUSES, SUPPORT, AND SAVE: Gain early access to episodes, take part in Ask Me Anything live streams, and gain more bonuses by joining the DCTC Patreon. This is another one of those super fun (for me) episodes where I interview my kids. Today you'll meet Savannah. She is 24 years old, about to graduate from BYU, and is a single mom to 1 year old Marceline. She is strong and courageous and compassionate. I look up to her so much! I think you'll love this conversation with Savannah.
It's News Day Tuesday! Sam and Emma break down the biggest headlines of the day. First, they run through updates on Anthony Blinken's certification of Israel's military integrity, the NYT's subtle backtracking on its 10/7 article, Julien Assange, Biden's Polling, the Francis Scott Key Bridge, Mifepristone, the Moscow Terror attack, Florida's youth social media ban, Elon Musk's legal battles, and RFK's big tech donor-turned VP, before parsing through Donald Trump's ongoing financial woes. Next, Sam and Emma look to SCOTUS as they preview their upcoming Mifepristone decision based on a 19th Century lewdity law, explore the GOP's failing agenda, and parse through Biden's complete obliteration of any goodwill in the eyes of the US public over the last few months. Expanding on this, they walk through Matt Miller's disturbing comments on the US' disregard for international law, and what is sacrificed in Biden's all-out support for genocide in Gaza. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch James Comer try to give his Biden impeachment attempt a second life, Dave Rubin has Sam Seder flashbacks, and they discuss the growing problem of islamophobia in the US government as a Muslim judicial nomination comes into question. They talk with Marceline from PA and Ben from Flagstaff about MR's coverage, Rachel Maddow addresses the election-denying elephant in the NBC green room, and Joe Rogan tackles the ever-relevant “cancel culture in academia” with Jonathan Haidt, plus, your calls and IMs!
