"Nothing lasts forever," Emmy-nominated TV producer Remi Kone tells us, reflecting on one of life's most important lessons. It's this perspective that has guided her remarkable journey from working on shows like Killing Eve and Spooks to crafting her debut crime novel, "Innocent Guilt."In this captivating conversation, we explore the fascinating parallels between hooking TV viewers across multiple episodes and capturing readers across chapters, with Remi sharing invaluable insights about character development that apply to both mediums. "It's the characters you love, not always the stories," she observes, explaining why readers become so invested in fictional lives that they message authors to debate character choices. Perhaps most reassuring for aspiring writers is Remy's candor about the publishing process itself. From agent rejections that turned into valuable feedback to the surreal experience of seeing her words in print, she demystifies the journey with warmth and honesty. Innocent GuiltVictim or murderer . . . Can she discover the truth? On a misty autumn afternoon, a woman covered in blood clutching a baseball bat walks silently into a London police station. The two officers assigned to her case are DI Leah Hutch and DS Benjamin Randle. But the woman refuses to speak. She is not injured and the blood on the bat is not hers. What has she done? Is she the victim or the perpetrator? As Leah and Randle start their inquiry, a man is found battered to death in a nearby park. Journalist Odie Reid receives a tip off and is determined to solve the case first, trying to link this death to the woman held in custody.Leah and Odie have history and very quickly their cat and mouse Follow Remi KoneSend us a textSupport the show"Enjoying 'The Conversation'? British-Nigerian Emmy nominee Remi Kone - known for hit TV shows like Killing Eve and Spooks - joins us to talk about her leap from the screen to the page. In this intriguing episode, Remi explores her love of reading and top book recommendations (possibly the most we've ever had on an episode!), and takes us behind the scenes of her breathtaking debut crime thriller, Innocent Guilt.

Thank god it's femslash... part two! This week, in lieu of a minisode, V and Emily were joined by jarrow, the founder of FaberryCon and TGIF/F (see Episode #111), for a lengthy chat about all things femslash. We talk migratory (fem)slash fandom; subtext; female friendships and friend-ships; and why the death of the 22-episode season is killing shipping, especially for noncanonical pairings. Femslash has a parallel history to slash fandom, and it's one that we don't get to talk about nearly enough on this show, so it was a delight to skip the shallow wading and get right to the deep dive. Thank you, jarrow! Find out more about TGIF/F at http://www.tgifemslash.com. This Week In Fandom History is a fandom-centric podcast that tells you… what happened this week in fandom history! Join us to celebrate 5x15's fifteenth birthday! To mark the occasion, we'll be back at The Tabernacle in February for a very special evening, featuring a truly stellar line-up of speakers: Harriet Walter, John Crace, Jonathan Freedland, Theresa Lola and Chloe Dalton. Expect captivating stories about Shakespeare's women, as reinterpreted by a beloved classical actress; the inspiring work of a German Jewish author writing during the Second World War; poetry and diasporic experience; a transformative encounter with an injured hare in the countryside and a satirical look at British politics - from the point of view of Herbie the dog. Harriet Walter is best-known as an actor, although she is also a published author. She has played 18 Shakespearean roles, mainly with the RSC, of which she is an honorary artist and governor. Harriet has also performed the works of Webster, Chekhov, Pinter, to name just a few, and created new roles in many other new works. Her most recent television work includes Succession, Killing Eve and The Crown. She was awarded a CBE in 2000 an Honorary Doctor of Letters at the University of Birmingham in 2001 and became a Dame in 2011. Her new book, She Speaks!, offers new parts for thirty of Shakespeare's women, letting them speak their minds, and reads between the lines to imagine what these women were really thinking. I cover a whirlwind of topics, starting with a fun TikTok comment comparing me to an actress from "Killing Eve." We then delve into the latest "Sister Wives" drama, including the mystery of Robyn Brown's ex-husband, David Preston, and Paedon Brown's new relationship. I also vent about the lackluster interview Christine and Janelle did on the Sibling Revelry podcast. Shifting gears, I provide updates on the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni legal battle, discussing Jenny Slate's allegations and the strategic moves by Lively's legal team. Olivier and Emmy-award-winning Dame Harriet Walter must have acting in her blood: her uncle is the legendary horror star Christopher Lee, she turned down a place at Oxford in favour of drama school, and began her career at the Royal Shakespeare Company. On screen you'll know her from Killing Eve, Ted Lasso, The Crown or as Lady Caroline in Succession - plus films including Sense and Sensibility, Atonement and The Last Duel. On stage she's embodied everyone from Prospero to Elizabeth I. Her failures include failing to master the piano or music theory, failing to get roles that she auditioned for, and finally failing to cook. I absolutely loved talking to this unbelievably smart and astute woman. Enjoy! She Speaks by Harriet Walter is out now. Have something to share of your own? I'd love to hear from you! I've hand-picked some of my favourite episodes of all time to revisit this Christmas, so today's a very special one. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was my first EVER guest on this podcast when I launched in July 2018. A year after that, almost to the day, I welcomed her back to talk about how her life had changed in the interim [spoiler alert: she'd become a global superstar]. Phoebe talks about the craziness of those 12 months, during which she wrote and starred in Fleabag 2 (described as a televisual masterpiece by...well...almost everyone), made Killing Eve (described as a televisual masterpiece by...well...almost everyone) and worked her magic on the new James Bond movie. It was a year that, from the outside, seemed to many of us to be the epitome of success. But what failures lay underneath the surface? What about those private moments of vulnerability and self-doubt we are so rarely privy to? Phoebe joined me to talk about three failures from that year, including her failure to connect with her family, her failure to speak up for herself and her failure to Marie Kondo her bedroom. Along the way, we discuss what makes the perfect water bottle, filming THAT final scene in Fleabag (apparently the foxes were total divas), sexuality, exhaustion and why female creators are often unfairly assumed to be writing autobiography. And yes, the Meryl Streep apple crumble anecdote makes an(other) appearance. HOW TO FAIL PRESENTED BY HAYU LIVE TOUR tickets: www.fane.co.uk/how-to-fail Have something to share of your own? 28 Years Later Theory #28yearslaters #cillianmurphy #aarontaylorjohnson In this video, we explain some theories for the film, '28 Years Later.' Jack O'Connell (Amy Winehouse: Back To Black), Jodie Comer (Alone in the Dark, “Killing Eve”), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kraven the Hunter), and Ralph Fiennes (The Menu) star in the film. Garland wrote 28 Years Later and Boyle is back in the director's chair. Garland also plans to write one more sequel to the franchise with Nia DaCosta (Candyman, The Marvels) set to direct the second installment in the trilogy from Sony Pictures.
We are back babes and we are joined by someone who is having a YEAR, Ella Purnell. Ella has been acting since she was 12 but this year has been her best yet! Ella starred as Lucy in one of the biggest TV shows of the year, the adaptation of the game, ‘Fallout' on Prime Video - I was obsessed - have you seen it yet? And now Ella is starring and producing, ‘Sweetpea' on Sky and the streaming service, NOW in the UK and Starz in the USA! ‘Sweetpea' is one of my favourite shows of the year and it follows Ella's character Rhiannon, a wallflower who is pushed over the edge and goes on a killing spree. It's dark but SO GOOD, and stars previous ‘Reign' guest and all round mega human, Nicôle Lecky, too. ‘Killing Eve' fans, you will love this show, I promise! Today Ella and I cover some serious ground, from everyday sexism to conkers (they are making a comeback apparently! Ella also tells me about the wild rumours she was dating Brad Pitt when they hadn't even met, as well as how she truly found her voice. Anyone who has a ‘go to karaoke' list in their phone is a bit of us so I really hope you love this episode. If you do or you just want to talk about how amazing ‘Sweetpea' is get in touch with me via social media @joshsmithhosts - I always love talking to you. Love, Josh x P.S. In this episode you will have heard me chatting about my book book ‘Great Chat: Seven Lessons for Better Conversation, Deeper Connections and Improved Wellbeing' which is out now and you can get your hardback/ digital or audio book here: https://geni.us/GreatChat Whether you are already confident at chatting or are socially anxious this book really is for everyone and I hope it inspires you to turn even everyday conversation into a self development practice for your wellbeing and the good of those around you, too. Ring cameras have come a long way. Since the security camera brand launched 11 years ago, its video doorbells and cams have become vigilant, constant surveyors of patios, porches, and vestibules everywhere. Amazon now owns the company, and has ushered it through controversies over privacy concerns, incidents of vigilantism, and the company's cozy relationship with law enforcement. The drama has not slowed growth; over 10 million Rings have been installed, and the cameras currently blanket our urban and suburban landscape, filming the movements of you, your family, and any strangers who wander near your door. That makes for a lot of video to sift through if you're trying to find something important, like whether or not a delivery was made, or what time your kids left for soccer practice. That abundance of footage is why Ring cameras, along with many other consumer products right now, are getting some AI-powered capabilities. Ring's software update helps users search for specific moments their cameras may have captured. This week, WIRED senior writer Paresh Dave joins the show again to talk about the evolution of Ring—how the security cameras have become nearly ubiquitous security tech, and what the future holds now that they're being infused with AI.Show Notes:Read Paresh's story about Ring's AI updates. Read WIRED's guides to the best indoor and outdoor security cameras. Read more about all the data Ring collects from its users and why we recently stopped recommending Ring cameras for a couple of years.Recommendations:Paresh recommends getting a Sling TV subscription from Dish to watch live sports. Mike recommends searching for decoy security cameras you can install if your landlord requires you to put up a security camera. Lauren recommends the streaming shows Nobody Wants This and Killing Eve. Both are on Netflix.Paresh Dave can be found on social media @peard33. Lauren Goode is @LaurenGoode. Ooo and cider! As soon as we escaped the rusty chainsaws and applied corn-silk tourniquets (seriously you guys that episode was DARK) we go into more cheerful stuff like Star Trek: Lower Decks, Mayor of Kingstown, and Killing Eve. Okay, those last two are also super dark. And finally, Kathryn and Nathan watched the first episode of Kaos and really enjoyed it, not realizing that by the time this episode dropped the information would be obsolete because NETFLIX FREAKING CANCELLED IT. This week's outro is a clip from Chase Through Time by Universfield. Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? Want to buy them (or yourself) a square foot of a castle in Scotland? Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all of your favorite fictional universes. Marvel Studios Town Hall (H) Our favorite shared universe multimedia franchise, that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, blessed us with an outpouring of updates this week, so let's tackle them in a segment we dub Town Hall: Hall H Speaking of Halls, Deadline sources say that Marvel Studios plans to return to San Diego Comic Con's marquee panel, Hall H, for the first time since 2022's Phase 5 and 6 slate reveals. With no lack of projects, series and films in the works, how big of a splash are we expecting from the studio come late July? Fantastic FourWhile speaking on the recently launched Marvel Official Podcast, Kevin Feige confirmed that the upcoming Fantastic Four film is a period piece set in New York in the 1960s. He also tipped his hat to fan observations noting the apparent alternate history setting seen in the promotional art, as quote, “smart”. And not to bury the lede, the studio president also confirmed the film's shooting start date for July 29, the day after Comic Con concludes. How do these deets jive with everything else we know about this hotly anticipated flick? AgathaEmpire Magazine unveiled an exclusive first image from Agatha All Along, of course featuring Kathryn Hahn, but also giving us our first look at Patti LuPone as Lila, Ali Ahn as Alice, Sasheer Zamata as Jennifer and WandaVision's Debra Jo Rupp, as Sharon. Showrunner Jac Schaeffer provided the additional detail that the characters share the common bond of being witches without covens, who strain to work together, in spite of their selfish tendencies. Are we bewitched by these magical morsels? A Leaky Legacy for Supes? We aren't ones to celebrate or propagate unofficial leaks here on Multiverse News, but the magnitude and scale of the recent set leaks from James Gunn's Superman, beg a discussion. We won't go into details or describe the images in question, so you're free from spoilers; but it is worth noting that the clarity of the images, characters, costumes, and settings within, feel a bit more authorized or allowed than one might expect, with James Gunn even gesturing and posing for the camera. In typical fashion, the images have elicited a range of reactions from fans, both muted and hyperbolic. How about us? Does a production so leaky, have us quite as squeaky as some fans? Headmasters of HogwartsAfter the recent announcement that it would be an HBO series, rather than Max, the Harry Potter series has found its creative voice and force, with a pair of Succession alumni, Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, joining the project. Gardiner will serve as writer and showrunner and Mylod will direct and executive produce the entire first season, which as we understand, will adapt JK Rowlling's first novel, The Sorcerer's Stone, for television. Gardiner's previous credits include AMC's Killing Eve, Amazon's The Man in the High Castle as well as His Dark Materials for HBO and the BBC, while Mylod recently directed The Menu as well as episodes of The Last of Us. Do any of these developments have us keen to catch the Hogwarts Express at Platform 9 and ¾ when the series lands in 2026?
Jodie Comer is an Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor who you may know as the assassin Villanelle on the show “Killing Eve.” Though she's been acting since childhood, Jodie treats every role with the intense work ethic of someone who's still gunning for their big break. In her new film, “The Bikeriders,” she stars opposite Austin Butler, Tom Hardy and Michael Shannon as a woman who married into a biker gang. The film was inspired by an actual Midwestern motorcycle club that started in the ‘60s. Jodie joins Tom to talk about the film, learning a new accent for the project, and the incredible work ethic that's gotten her this far in her acting career.
In this week's episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo goes on a joyride with one of the stars of “The Bikeriders.” The film follows the members of a Chicago-area biker gang from their innocent inception in the 1960s to their descent into a darker underworld. The Jeff Nichols (“Mud,” “Midnight Special,” “Take Shelter”) film stars Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, Norman Reedus, Boyd Holbrook, and more. READ MORE: ‘The Bikeriders' Review: Jodie Comer & Tom Hardy Rule The Road In Jeff Nichols' New Drama [Telluride] Jodie Comer joins the podcast to discuss her role as Kathy, a woman who stumbles into the world of the biker gang through her relationship with one of the members. The Truth Against the World (Square Tire Books, 2023) is a brilliant literary fantasy about a divided, dystopian America on the verge of war. Shane, a former Irish combat soldier with a murky past, wants to save his young friend Georgie O'Halloran, who turned his stories of Celtic history and folklore into a beautifully illustrated book. She gave the book to her professor, who published it under his name and earned millions. It became a wildly popular video game that continues to inspire a violent transformation of America by roaming gangs of murderers. Shane, already trying to free Georgie from the psychiatric institution where she's been hidden by her money-grubbing stepmother, is devoted to finding the deceitful professor. They embark on a cross-country journey, tracked by those in power and pursued by murderers. David Corbett is the author of seven novels, which have been nominated for numerous awards, including The Edgar. His short fiction has twice been selected for Best American Mystery Stories, and a collaborative novel for which he contributed a chapter—Culprits—was adapted for TV by the producers of Killing Eve and will appear on Hulu in December 2023. His writing guides The Art of Character and The Compass of Character have been widely praised and used by both aspiring and established authors, and he is a monthly contributor to Writer Unboxed, an award-winning blog dedicated to the craft and business of fiction. Prior to his career as a novelist, Corbett was a senior operative with the private investigation firm of Palladino & Sutherland in San Francisco, where he worked on a number of high-profile criminal and civil litigations, including the Cotton Club Murder Case, the People's Temple Trial, Jordan Chandler v. Michael Jackson, a RICO litigation brought by the Teamsters membership against union leaders associated with organized crime, and a number of marijuana prosecutions linked to the Coronado Company out of San Diego. In his spare time, Corbett enjoys reading history, taking hikes in the Catskills with his wife and Wheaten terrier, Fergus, and tending to the sprawling garden on their property. “I've spent my life writing,” says Emerald Fennell. “It's something I've done ever since I was a child. It's something I would be doing whether I could make films or write books or not.” After University, Emerald wrote a pile of spec scripts to “find her voice.” During hiatus of BBC's Call the Midwife, where Emerald played Nurse Patsy Mount for 27 episodes, she three books. “My last book, Monsters, which was an adult novel, Showrunner Jessica Knappett read it and asked me to write on the fourth season of her amazing show, Drifters.” “I think I had that thing that many screenwriters had where I had a few things bought but didn't go. It's a constant process of nearlys until you get that first credit, which Jess gave me.” After Drifters, she wrote and directed a short called Careful How You Go that went to Sundance and helped her pitch and ultimately write and direct Promising Young Woman, a dark comedy about a young woman traumatized by the tragic events of her past. Then, Emerald wrote on Season 2 of Killing Eve and now she's back on the silver screen as writer/director of Saltburn, where an Oxford student finds himself drawn in the world of a charming aristocratic classmate.
