This is not the time to get freaky. Ears can't even do that, but they can hear us resting in a slumber of our design, witnessing a world history event, birthing the Grindery, thinking of the Death Star workers, combining steam with magic, yearning for the True Power of Vane, using a super move reluctantly, testing the limits of forgiveness, working hands to the nape of her neck, making an important decision, suspecting there was going to be a boss fight, wishing for a secret satan, letting the anime breathe, calling it a tie, and wondering if the Grindery is sea worthy. Rob recounts the greatest meal of his life at Theodora in Brooklyn—complete with brown butter, jalapeños, and a religious experience over ricotta toast. Next, the duo takes us on a wild ride through Rob's latest online discovery, Italian brainrot, which then leads to some disturbingly bouncy AI music videos. But the real main course? A deep (and weirdly respectful) dive into the lives of recently married conjoined twins Abby and Brittany—raising profound questions like: Who controls the body during arguments? Shirleon joins Melvin to discuss Sinners, Ryan Coogler's massive 2025 hit. As the film continues to dominate conversation, the two discuss it's myriad of themes, whether the film mixes its ideas together well, how they interpret the dichotomy between Smoke and Stack, and the relationship between music, creativity, power, and community. Topics:(PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 20-minutes discussing the announcement that John Krasinski will be returning for A Quiet Place Part III despite A Quiet Place: Day One turning out to be the best of those films and he wasn't even attached to it, and whether it's even theater worthy or a "wait-till-streaming" kind of thing. (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) Shirleon absolutely loved Sinners in every way possible.Melvin didn't love it but he did think it was good, and he spends some time exploring what he believes are the film's 3 parts: drama, themes, and vampires.Contrasting coalescence and coexistence, two things Melvin observed in the film.Shirleon was consistently in awe of the film, noting not only the visuals but the dialogue as well.Thinking about "it" movies and whether movies can be "objectively good" or "objectively bad".Talking about the music and THAT scene.Melvin, "...when you are excellent you are attractive to more than just good people. You are also attractive to evil as well."Talking about the title and how some spiritual leaders have misaligned priorities. How Sammie exists as a "what comes next" kind of character, both literally within the story and thematically in its metatext.Recommendations:Primal (2019-X) (TV Show)The Running Man (1987) (Movie)Support the showSupport on Patreon for Unique Perks! This week, we're throwing it way back to 1987 and landing in the heart of Oakland, California, where chaos and creativity collide in Freaky Tales. With a stacked cast featuring Pedro Pascal (doing, well… Pedro Pascal things), J. Ellis, Normani, Too $hort, and a ton of wild energy, this film serves up four interconnected stories that are as unpredictable as they are entertaining.Expect punk rockers throwing down with skinheads, a rap battle that's pure fire (Too $hort vs. Danger Zone, y'all), and a whole lot of Pedro being Pedro, oh, and did we mention Sleepy Floyd (J. Ellis, not the basketball legend) gets his moment to shine? Yeah, that happens.

The whole gang is back together this week AND they've all watched Fantastic Four, so we revist that with a full spoiler review, the move on to Nonna's, Freaky Tales, Twisted Metal, and Project Runway. APNC has always been a show that loves the MCU. Heck, the first episode ever was about Captain Marvel (not to date ourselves...), so to have the opportunity to have a full spoiler discussion about the Fantastic Four was something we weren't going miss, even though we just discussed it last week. Getting Andrew's take from the more seasoned MCU angle and Lauren from the less indoctrinated side leads to some great discussions and generates some really solid discussion about what this movie means for super hero movies going forward. After that discussion, Lauren takes over and discusses the film Nonna's on Netflix. It stars Vince Vaugnn in a less over the top role than usual in a story that's based on a real restaurant. Rather than hiring traditional chefs, a restauranteur hires a handful of Italian grandma's (nonna's) to make the food. It's a heartwarming story about the initial struggles and ultimate success of a very niche restaurant. The review sounds lovely, as does the restaurant. If you're ever in Staten Island, give it (and the movie) a shot! Next up, Andrew takes us back in time the Bay Area with Freaky Tales. It's 4 intertwining takes, a la Pulp Fiction, that come together at the end. Much like every other film or TV show this year, it stars Pedro Pascal, but also Ben Mendelsohn, rapper Too $hort, and Jay Ellis. It's not kid friendly, so watch when you have the TV to yourself, but it's a solid watch and a great story. Slingshotting back to the future, Kevin discusses the return of the post apocalyptic series, Twisted Metal, on Peacock. This one stars Anthonay Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz as drivers in a world where you are never truly safe unless you're moving. Despite the world it's set in, this show is a ton of fun and it requires no knowledge of the video game it's based on to enjoy, so if over the top mayhen and witty dialogue (and Kevin's favorite Mackie performance) is your jam, give this one a shot for sure. Lauren closes the show with a quick review of the new season of Project Runway. It sees the return of Heidi as the host, but lacks some of the old Project Runway magic without Tim Gunn. It's only 2 episodes in, so far, and the challenges have been less than stellar, but it's a long haul, so there is definitely room for improvement as the season rolls on. We have wild and hilarious comedian/podcaster Ian Fidance join us to talk about everything from butt plugs to friend fights. We open with trading some drunk Delaware stories (and how Ian is sober now), then we talk about a porn star he's dating, coming out as bisexual (and why he doesn't exactly relate to that label), misconceptions about bisexuality, and why people project their judgements on others' lifestyles. We chat about his best friendship with his podcast cohost Jordan, and he shares a story about them fighting on the streets of New York…then we share our own. We also discuss how everyone seems to be so freaky nowadays (but are they really?), and we break down an insane listener question about her fiancé going to Vegas for his bachelor party. Before Ian joins us, we're talking about why dinner dates are the worst dates (just hear us out), the animal encounters we've been having at our houses, and Ashley announces her special taping. Enjoy! Follow Ian on Instagram at @ianimal69 and listen to his podcast Bein' Ian with Jordan. Follow us @girlsgottaeatpodcast, Ashley @ashhess, and Rayna @rayna.greenberg. Send us a textHave you ever anticipated a sequel only to have your expectations completely shattered? That's exactly what happened with Broken Lizard's "Club Dread," their follow-up to the cult classic "Super Troopers." What went wrong when the comedy troupe attempted to blend slasher horror with their established comedy style? In this deeply analytical episode, we dissect the fundamental failures of "Club Dread" as both horror and comedy. The film simply can't decide what it wants to be – lacking genuine scares and creative kills while simultaneously failing to deliver consistent laughs. We explore how the movie squanders numerous comedy setups and character opportunities, creating a frustrating viewing experience where potential humor repeatedly evaporates before reaching satisfying payoffs.Bill Paxton emerges as our unanimous highlight, delivering a genuinely entertaining performance as Coconut Pete, a washed-up Jimmy Buffett-esque resort owner with delusions of musical grandeur. His outburst about writing "Piña Colada-berg" years before "Margaritaville" represents one of the film's few genuinely memorable moments. Yet even his character suffers from the film's structural problems, with his demise occurring unceremoniously off-screen.We compare "Club Dread" to successful horror comedies like "Shaun of the Dead," "Freaky," and "Slither," examining why these films succeed where Broken Lizard failed. The answer lies largely in character development – when characters feel like actual humans rather than caricatures, their peril generates genuine tension, allowing comedy to emerge organically from authentic situations.Join us for this entertaining breakdown of a disappointing sophomore effort from Broken Lizard, and stick around to hear what Vin Diesel classic we'll be tackling next week. Whether you're a fan of horror comedies or just enjoy dissecting failed film experiments, this episode offers plenty of laughs and insights into the challenging art of genre-blending.Written Lovingly with AIBe our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT
