The War that Surrounds Us is from Chapter 3 of The Hands of a Warrior devotional book. This week, M.A. and Chelsea dive into this chapter and what it means to pursue God and not fall into the traps of distraction, deception, and fighting the wrong battles.Notes from the message:Chelsea was talking about holiness and the 6-winged seraphim from Isaiah 6:2. She mispronounced the word of the winged creature in the podcast.Jackie Hill Perry's book mentioned in the podcast is called Gay Girl Good God. Great book! The Hands of a Warrior devotion can be purchased on Amazon or HERE.
Happy New Year! I cannot believe we are entering another year! Welcome to the very first episode of The Happy Hour in 2023. It may be a little early in the year to declare this, but my conversation today is probably going to be one of my favorite episodes when I do a “2023 year in review” in December! The team and I thought about doing something different to start the new by letting my dear friend Jackie Hill Perry interview me. I think we all know who Jackie is, but if you're not familiar, I'm delighted to introduce you! Jackie is a wife and mom, the author of Gay Girl Good God and Holier Than Thou, co-host of the Thirty Minutes with The Perrys podcast alongside her husband Preston, and a gifted preacher. I have never been interviewed on my show but this was so much fun!Jackie puts me in the hot seat, for sure! She's asking all the questions and she does not hold back. We talk about me preaching for the first time in a church on a Sunday morning. We discuss the topic of women in leadership, as well as my obsession with watching “Sister Wives.” I even get very vulnerable about something that until this conversation, I had only shared with five people. You will definitely want to push play to hear what I share. Jackie leaves us with great wisdom with the reminder that God's ‘no' is not mean. His ‘no is never wasted or lacking in love, but when He says ‘no,' it is training and disciplining us to trust the Father. Friends, I hope your new year is off to a great start! We discussed my review of the book Gay Girl Good God by Jackie Hill Perry and truth about misleading ex-gay testimonies.
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (07/30/20), we pick up where we ended on our previous broadcast and present more of an episode of the Hank Unplugged podcast. Hank is talking with writer, poet, and artist, Jackie Hill Perry, author of Gay Girl, Good God: The Story of Who I Was, and Who God Has Always Been. Hank and Jackie discuss the stereotype that pornography is only a male problem; if Jackie still experiences same-sex sexual temptation; Jackie's passion for poetry; the power and significance of apologetics; a passion for scripture and the beauty of being able to give biblical answers; how Jackie Hill Perry came up with the title Gay Girl, Good God and what she hopes people get from the reading the book; a lightning round of questions on Gay Girl, Good God; and the importance of having an eternal perspective.
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (07/29/20), we pick up where we ended on our previous broadcast and present more of an episode of the Hank Unplugged podcast. Hank is talking with writer, poet, and artist, Jackie Hill Perry, author of Gay Girl, Good God: The Story of Who I Was, and Who God Has Always Been. Hank and Jackie discuss the error of what Jackie calls the heterosexual gospel—believing that only a fraction of our humanity needs saving; the different ways we identify ourselves; Jackie's reaction to a negative review of Gay Girl, Good God on Amazon; learning to see ourselves through the lens of Scripture rather than through the lens of culture; how sin can feel natural; and the role of the church to impact society and the importance of discipleship in the church.
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (07/28/20), we present an episode of the Hank Unplugged podcast. Hank's guest is writer, poet, and artist, Jackie Hill Perry, author of Gay Girl, Good God: The Story of Who I Was, and Who God Has Always Been. Hank and Jackie discuss what made Jackie go against the cultural perspective of sexuality in favor of a biblical perspective; the power of words and narratives; how personal autonomy relates to the issues of abortion, sexual freedom, and sexual identity; the impact of abuse and fatherlessness; the role of conscience in our lives as a reminder of truth; and the error of what Jackie calls the heterosexual gospel—believing that only a fraction of our humanity needs saving.
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (07/09/20), Hank brings up our resource of the month, the book Gay Girl, Good God by Jackie Hill Perry, who he recently had on the Hank Unplugged podcast to discuss her journey out of a homosexual lifestyle, offering a much-needed testimony for a time when society has embraced radical changes to traditional views of sexual identity. Jackie didn't write Gay Girl, Good God to merely point out the mistakes of her past, but rather to shine a light on the power of a relationship with God while helping people to understand the realities of same-sex attraction. In the second segment of the broadcast, Hank discusses the Black Lives Matter organization, which stands for more than what you may think they do. If you look at their website, you'll find out that they seek to disrupt the nuclear family, dismantle cisgender privilege, and uplift Black trans folk—primarily Black trans women. All of this is part of the “word crisis” that threatens to undo Western Civilization.Hank also answers the following question:Referring to Genesis 3:15, there's a popular Bible teacher that teaches that it's the Virgin Mary who shall bruise Satan's head, not Jesus. What's your take on this?

On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast from (07/01/20), Hank gives a brief update on his health, letting listeners know that the results of his CT scan yesterday came in and the scan showed no signs of cancer in his body. Hank also talks about the new featured resource for the month of July, the book Gay Girl, Good God by Jackie Hill Perry. It's almost written like poetry; once you start reading it you won't be able to stop. Hank is enthusiastically sharing this book for two reasons. First, because he thinks you're going to be moved by the story of a life redeemed and how God is using this book to bring healing and wholeness to people. Second, because issues of sexuality and gender confusion are now derailing and destroying countless lives. Sadly, multiplied thousands of young people are succumbing to devastating myths and pseudo-truths perpetuated by a secular, post-truth culture that has largely lost its moral moorings and is now dangerously adrift on a misty gray sea of relativism. In this growing spiritual darkness, the importance of lighthouses can hardly be overestimated, and Hank thinks Jackie's story is one such lighthouse.Hank answers the following questions:With all the other religions out there, how are we to prove that the Christian belief is the truth? What happens to the Church just before and during the first half of the Great Tribulation?

Author, poet, and artist, Jackie Hill Perry, is in the house! As we do with every guest, we get at the intersection between the gospel and Jackie's real, right-now life. In addition to Jackie's story of surrender, we discuss how she and her husband stay connected through the storms of life, how to interact with people who want to make her into a deity or the devil, and if she were forced to only use Comic Sans or Papyrus fonts for the rest of her life--which would she choose? Join us. P.S. You can hear Jackie's four-month-old baby off and on throughout the podcast. It's the sweetest. Highlights: "Randomly, the strongest thought came to my head that said, 'My sin will be the death of me.' I was like, 'Oh, that was weird.' I started to think about my sin and it's consequences . . . I tried to be Christian before. I had said the sinner's prayer like 12 times before and it never worked. I knew I could not save myself. I knew, 'If you're calling me to be holy, that has to be something You do.' I told God, 'What you're calling me to do I know I can't do on my own, but I know enough about you to know that you'll help me.'" --Jackie Hill Perry "I think my challenge was would I ever love him [my husband, Preston] truly? Will I ever be as attracted to him as I was to the women I was with? Will I ever feel like I can be myself? Those were a lot of my fears." --Jackie Hill Perry "I really do believe that the gospel is foolish to those who are perishing. I really do believe that part of being a Christian is to be misunderstood. I cling a lot to the fact that when Jesus was teaching the truth they had the audacity to say he was possessed." --Jackie Hill Perry For More: https://lauriekrieg.com/podcast/gay-girl-good-god-and-good-marriage/

It’s an uncomfortable and often controversial subject, especially in the church, but homosexuality and same sex attraction is something we all need to understand from a Biblical perspective. This week’s guest Jackie Hill Perry shares how the power of the gospel in her life rescued her from the sin she was living in as a woman with same sex attractions. She not only brings us into her amazing story, but absolutely preaches the word of God and brings a lot of clarity to what can feel like a gray area for many Christians. My conscience would not allow me to shake the truth that Jesus died for sin and that he is not pleased with sin at all. So I tried my best to shake him and I couldn’t…And I felt God speak to my heart and say that my girlfriend or my sin would be the death of me. That the wages of sin equals death. Because I saw it wasn’t my girlfriend or my lesbianism alone. It was that my entire life would be the death of me. Jackie shares stories and insights from her new book Gay Girl, Good God. She also answers listener questions about how to share God’s love with LGBTQ friends and family by treating them as a whole person and keeping the gospel centered on God’s truth and not culture’s.
In this episode, Christina and Ekemini are joined by Jackie Hill-Perry to talk about her new book, Gay Girl, Good God. The hosts attempt to engage Jackie’s book and her life story with an open ear and critically discerning questions. Jackie Hill Perry is a writer, poet, and artist whose work has been featured on the Washington Times, The 700 Club, Desiring God, The Gospel Coalition, and other publications. Since becoming a Christian in 2008, she has been compelled to use her speaking and teaching gifts to share the light of the gospel of God as authentically as she can.
