Ash Wednesday is an invitation for us to “examine ourselves to see whether we are in the faith” (2 Corinthians 13:5). As we begin the Lenten season and seek deeper communion with Christ, we look to Hebrews 3:12-15 for some examination. How many stories have you heard of someone who loved Jesus, served Jesus, was active in the church, maybe even a leader in the church—and then seemingly out of nowhere, fell away from not only the church, but Jesus as well? This should cause you to think, How does this happen? Why does this happen? You see, the drift into spiritual apathy is a slow one—and it could happen to you, too. Hebrews 3:12-15 reveals to us the process by which it can happen and how to avoid it. This is one of the reasons why the book of Hebrews was written: to urge and encourage believers to persevere in their walk with Christ as our anchor, lest we fall away too. May the Spirit of God soften our hearts, convict us of sin, and awaken us from spiritual slumber to take real inventory of our hearts, minds, and lives that we would follow Christ truly and wholeheartedly. BIG IDEA: I will either persevere with Christ or fall away from Christ. How to Fall Away from ChristNever check your heart (12)Ignore warnings (13a) Live in sin (13b)How to Persevere with Christ Share in identity of Christ (14a) Hold firm to faith in Christ (14b) Listen to Christ's voice today! Sermon TextJohn 15:18–16:4If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me hates my Father also. If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. But the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: They hated me without a cause. But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning. I have said all these things to you to keep you from falling away. They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. And they will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me. But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told them to you. I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you.Cross-referencesJohn 7:7The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil.2 Timothy 3:12Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,Matthew 5:11-12Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Welcome to the Live for More Podcast. In this episode, Pastors Zach and Blake talk honestly about new year goals, spiritual habits, family worship, and the real danger of drifting from the gospel. As we step into a new year, many of us feel motivated to make changes — but good intentions alone won't keep us faithful. Scripture shows that even confident believers can fall away when their confidence is rooted in themselves instead of Christ.
This morning, we begin a series of exploring some questions asked by our religious world, and seeing what the Bible says about them. Today's Bible question: is it possible for a Christian to fall away and be lost?
Dennis is joined via Zoom by author Jon Imparato to talk about his new memoir The Good Inside the Grief, in which he writes about everything from his Catholic childhood to his challenging relationship with his father to volunteering to man the shaving cart and shaving AIDS patients at the height of the pandemic. Jon also talks about the moving and surprising reactions he's gotten to it so far and what it was like to write about such difficult topics as losing three lovers to AIDS, having two difficult heart-to-hearts with his father 45 years apart and getting sexually assaulted by a guy he met in acting class at 19. He also writes about working with gay youth at the LA LGBT Center, teaching writing to queer seniors at Triangle Square in LA and discovering the magic of being in "vagina world" when he booked Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues as his first big show as Director of the Cultural Arts Department of the Center in the late 90's. Other topics include: why he used to call people for two rings and then hang up, the pleasure of Sunday Sauce, befriending a Canadian soldier while traveling in Bali and having it change his life forever, the wisdom of Betty White and a psychic Stevie Nicks story that will blow your mind. https://www.jonimparatowriter.com/

If you're a regular purchaser of games, you're a stark minority within the very industry you know and love. We've known all about the revenue-related trends directing games as of late, but recent data indicates things are far more dire than they seem, particularly if you're a single player purist. For instance, a third of gaming consumers purchase less than one game a year; 12% buy one game a year; 18% buy two games a year. Only 14% of players buy at least one game a month! The Holy Ghost is here mentioned as the great gift of the gospel times, as coming down from heaven, not absolutely, not as unto his person, but with respect unto an especial work, — namely, the change of the whole state of religious worship in the church of God, — whereas we shall see in the next words, he is spoken of only with respect unto external actual operations.

Skeptics say there was a power play around the fourth century with the creeds. That, however, is historically and biblically inaccurate. In this session, we'll look at the core theology that the Bible presents and then compare it with other early sources, showing the consistent theology of the first two centuries of Christianity. “Delivered by Emmanuel” Daniel 3 June 8, 2025 Pastor John Choi ----more---- Daniel 3:14 and Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the image of gold I have set up? [15] Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?” [16] Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. [17] If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty's hand. [18] But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” [24] Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, “Weren't there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?” They replied, “Certainly, Your Majesty.” [25] He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.” [26] Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, “Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!” So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire, [27] and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers crowded around them. They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them. [28] Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king's command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. Worship Him who alone is able—and has indeed—delivered us: Jesus Christ, Emmanuel. I. Who will you worship? (1-14) II. Who will deliver you? (15-23) III. Who is with you? (24-30)

Question: I have a question which simply asks, “In view of all the Lord has done for believers, why do some fall away or go into apostasy?”Response: First, as Scripture tells us, there are those who claim to be believers, who have never been saved (See—https://bit.ly/41D6NWQ). Apostasy has been a part of every generation since the beginning and fall of mankind. Scripture tells us that it will culminate in the last days when the Antichrist is revealed. His religion will be an apostate Christianity—it will accommodate all religions. Although the apostasy will not be fully realized until after the Rapture of the church, its development has been ongoing from the time when sin entered the human race. Furthermore, down through biblical and church history, many true believers, either in ignorance or because of the weaknesses of their flesh, have contributed to apostasy. Solomon seems to exemplify this, he also married pagan women, which was contrary to Scripture. These women turned him to idolatry and he built temples for them to worship their false gods.
