Sermon Summary: “How the Kingdom of God Works” ## 1) Core Message Herb Blum’s sermon centers on understanding and actively operating in the Kingdom of God. The key idea is that believers must move from hoping God’s Word is true to fully knowing and applying it with confidence in their daily lives. --- ## 2) The Will of God = The Word of God A foundational teaching emphasized that: • God’s Word reveals His will • If you know the Word, you know what God wants for your life He stressed that uncertainty about God’s will leads to doubt and inactivity, while clarity and conviction enable believers to act with confidence. --- ## 3) Faith Requires Certainty, Not Doubt A recurring theme was the difference between: • “I hope God will…” vs. • “I know God said it, so it will happen” According to the sermon: • The Kingdom operates on certainty and conviction • Doubt interrupts results • Believers must stand firm even when they don’t yet see outcomes --- ## 4) Spiritual Battle Happens in the Mind A major portion of the sermon focused on mental and spiritual discipline: • The primary attack from the enemy is negative thoughts and suggestions • These thoughts must not be entertained or debated internally • Instead, believers should speak God’s Word out loud to counter them Key principle: > You don’t defeat thoughts with other thoughts—you defeat them with spoken truth. --- ## 5) Speaking the Word Has Power Herb emphasized that: • Words activate the Kingdom • Speaking scripture aloud: - Stops negative thinking - Reinforces belief - Drives away fear and doubt Examples from the sermon include declaring truth over situations (e.g., healing, success, identity). --- ## 6) Don’t Quit Before the Breakthrough Another central point: • Many people give up just before results come • Growth (like a seed) happens below the surface first • Persistence is essential Key teaching: • If you stay in faith and don’t quit, results will come • The only real failure is giving up --- ## 7) Living by Spirit vs. Flesh The sermon highlighted a contrast: • Flesh (natural thinking): “I’ll believe it when I see it” • Spirit (kingdom thinking): “I believe it, therefore I will see it” Believers are encouraged to: • Focus on spiritual truth over physical evidence • Reject feelings or circumstances that contradict God’s Word --- ## 8) The Role of Patience and Trust Waiting on God was reframed as: • Not passive waiting, but actively trusting, serving, and staying aligned with Him This includes: • Continuing in faith • Praising God even before results appear • Trusting timing and process --- ## 9) Practical Application for Believers Herb provided clear behavioral guidance: • Speak scripture regularly • Reject negative or doubtful thoughts immediately • Stay consistent in prayer and study • Keep your mind focused on God, not problems • Praise God regardless of current circumstances --- ## 10) Identity and Authority of Believers The sermon closed with an empowering message: • Believers carry God’s authority through His Word • The Kingdom is already within them • Through faith and obedience, they can: - Overcome challenges - Experience transformation - Live in victory --- #
Over 2026, we are taking time to articulate our Family Church values. As we begin exploring our third value, 'Relationship with God', Gerard explains how loving the Word of God is a key aspect to growing our relationship with God.
This week we look at the 3rd chapter and the call of Samuel. This chapter begins and ends with the language of the “word of the Lord”. Through this chapter we will see the importance and centrality of the word of God for life and faith. But we will also see how Jesus is this final Word, and the full revelation of God to us.
FINDING SALVATION AT THE FEET OF THE SAVIOR (Acts 8:30-9:8) For it is at the feet of the Savior, Jesus Christ, that everyone's salvation takes place. It is by no other name in heaven above, or on the earth, or below the earth, that salvation can occur. It is only by the blood of Jesus Christ that our salvation can be purchased. In today's message we will see that in every conversion there are three ingredients that are brought to bear to create that conversion. First, there is the work of the Holy Spirit: The Spirit of God goes ahead to prepare the heart of the lost person, and also to prepare the messenger. This leading of the Spirit of God is absolutely essential. Unfortunately, in many cases, we get ahead of the Holy Spirit and barge forward before He has set the stage for us. We ought to make it a matter of definite prayer before we talk to anyone. We should talk to the Lord about that person, before, we talk to them about the Lord. It is not simply that we need the Holy Spirit to lead us. What we need is for the Spirit of God to go ahead of us and prepare the way, then to call us up to where He is. The second ingredient that is brought to bear is The Word of God: The Word of God is absolutely essential. The Holy Spirit will take the things of Christ and will reveal them to an individual. It is the Spirit of God, using the Word of God, that brings the knowledge of God, and the faith in God. For it is in the Word of God that the very basis of our faith is found. Without the promises of the Word of God, our faith is empty and without merit. The third ingredient is the man of God: When God gets ready to save somebody, He uses human instrumentality. God doesn't reach out of Heaven and simply convict, convert, and save a person without human instrumentality being involved someway. That is the plan of God. The ministry of the Holy Spirit of God is primarily a ministry of cooperation. He will not do it without you, and you cannot do it without Him. Now, it doesn't have to be a preacher, or a missionary, it could simply be a friend or a stranger, that brings to that person the Word of God. It could be by how they live their lives that causes them to ask questions, or by direct witness. I believe that the Spirit of God, uses the man of God, who delivers the Word of God, to produce a son of God, one who is born again. Click on the link below to hear a message on how salvation can be found at the feet of the Savior, Jesus Christ. Watch the Devotion Based on John 1:1-14 The Hidden Glory of God “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14). The Word—Jesus is the Word. In eternity God spoke, and the world came into being. God spoke and there was light. When the darkness of sin invaded the light, God spoke again and made promises to scatter the darkness. The Word, God from eternity, begotten of the Father, so interconnected with the Father, would take on human flesh. He would be present, not omnipresent as he was before, but confined to space and time. The Word became flesh. Jesus assumed the true nature of a human being and lived among his creatures. Men like John the apostle spent a considerable amount of time with him and were able to examine and listen, to scrutinize and confirm: “Yes, this one is like us! He gets tired and hungry and needs water, he cries and he laughs, and he is truly human.” And yet, John says, “We have seen his glory.” John watched with amazement as the Word revealed the thoughts and attitudes of the hearts of men. He watched the Word walk on water. He watched him heal the sick and raise the dead. The Word himself was subjected to death—they snuffed out the light of life—but he came back from the dead. Although Jesus was God from eternity and embodied the fullness of the deity, and although John said, “We have seen his glory,” the Word hid his glory. The Word became flesh, not in a palace among kings and princes, but in a lowly place where animals ate and slept. The Word became flesh, not to flaunt his power through words that thunder from heaven, but in the quiet whisper of good news: “You are forgiven!” At Christmastime we might be tempted to look for something more from Jesus—some sort of financial miracle to get us out of a money mess, some sort of grace bomb that will restore all our broken relationships, some sort of heart and mind transplant that will remove all these relentless inappropriate thoughts and desires. The Word became flesh and still hides his glory. He hides his grandeur in a gentle word of grace and truth spoken to you: “I forgive you all your sins.” He hides his greatness in simple water where you are reassured: “Yes, you are my child.” He hides in simple bread and wine: “This is my body, this is my blood, given for you for the pardon of all your transgressions.” Grace and truth for you. This Christmas, marvel at the Word made flesh, who hid his glory, who hides his glory even now, so that you might receive the greatest gifts: grace and truth today, tomorrow, and for eternity, where you will behold him in all his glory. Prayer: Lord Jesus, during these days of the Christmas season, reassure us that you became flesh so that you might give us your grace and truth. Reassure those who serve in our nation's military that although they may be far from their loved ones this Christmas, you continue to dwell among your people. Comfort family members and friends who miss their service member with your abiding presence. Renew in us the desire to read, study, and pray on your Word of truth daily so we never forget why you were born—to save us. In your name we pray. Amen. Written and recorded by Rev. In Part 2 of The Priestly Shift Series, Dr. Kenny Russell reveals Yeshua as the Bridegroom of Sinai and eternal High Priest after the order of Melchizedek. Discover how the marriage covenant at Sinai, the fall into the Levitical system, and the Cross all connect in one continuous story of redemption and restored relationship. Study the Scriptures listed above and see how the Bridegroom King is calling His people back into covenant love and royal priesthood.Part 2 The Bridegroom, the Priesthood, and the Promise - Yeshua the Covenant HusbandFrom Sinai to the Cross, the same divine Bridegroom, YHVH revealed in Yeshua, has been calling His people into covenant. The priesthoods, covenants, and promises all point to the restoration of the original Melchizedek order through Messiah.1️⃣ Yeshua Was the Bridegroom at SinaiAt Mount Sinai, Israel entered a marriage covenant with YHVH, the very Word who would later become flesh (John 1:1-14).• Exodus 19:3-5 “If you obey Me fully and keep My covenant…”• Exodus 6:7 “I will take you as My own people.”• Isaiah 54:5 “For your Maker is your Husband.”• Jeremiah 2:2 “The devotion of your youth, as a bride you loved Me.”• John 1:1, 14 “The Word was God… The Word became flesh.”• John 8:58 “Before Abraham was, I AM.”• 1 Corinthians 10:4 “The Rock was Messiah.”• Romans 7:2-4 Through His death the Husband died, releasing Israel to enter a New Covenant. It was the pre-incarnate Word who covenanted with Israel. At Calvary, the same Bridegroom fulfilled the Torah's marriage law - dying and rising to unite Jew and Gentile into one redeemed Bride.2️⃣ The Covenant at Sinai Was Melchizedek in Order - Before the Golden CalfIntended Order:“You shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” Exodus 19:6Before sin entered, Israel was called to the Melchizedek pattern, royal-priestly access to God without Levitical mediation (see Genesis 14:18-20).The Shift after the Calf:When Israel worshiped the golden calf (Exodus 32), the priesthood changed from firstborn to Levi (Exodus 32:26; Deuteronomy 10:8).This Levitical order became a temporary administration to manage sin until Messiah restored direct access.Galatians 3:24 “The law was put in charge to lead us to Christ.”Hebrews 7:11 “If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood… why was there still need for another priest?”3️⃣ Misunderstood ‘Forever' Verses about the Levitical PriesthoodHebrew עוֹלָם (olam) often means “for an age” or “until the appointed time.”These verses describe continuity within the Mosaic covenant, not eternity.Passage Common Assumption Correct Context Fulfillment in MessiahExodus 29:9 Eternal Levitical rule For the age of Moses Ended at the Cross (Heb 9:10)Exodus 40:15 Everlasting generations Limited to Aaron's line Heb 7:12 – law and priesthood changedNumbers 25:13 Phinehas eternal priesthood Within Levitical system Heb 8:13 – old made obsoleteLeviticus 16:34 Perpetual atonement day Until fulfillment Heb 9:12; 10:10 – once for all1 Chron 23:13 Aaron forever Worship of that era Superseded by heavenly tabernacleMalachi 2:4-8 Unbroken Levi covenant Conditional — priests failed Yeshua restores true priesthoodPsalm 110:4 — Anchor text of transition Messiah = Eternal Melchizedek4️⃣ Yeshua Restores the Original PriesthoodThrough His death and resurrection, Yeshua reinstated the Melchizedek order permanently:Psalm 110:4 “You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”Hebrews 7:23-24 “He lives forever and has a permanent priesthood.”This fulfills Exodus 19:6 and extends the priestly calling to

A Concise Biblical Examination of John 1:1 and It's Importance to Our Faith “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This verse is like a treasure chest full of truth about who Jesus is. It tells us that Jesus, called “the Word,” is God and has always been with God. Let's break it down into three simple parts, using the original Greek words to help us understand, and see how it shows that Jesus is fully God. Part 1: “In the beginning was the Word” What it says in Greek: En archē ēn ho Logos Simple meaning: “When everything started, the Word was already there.” -“In the beginning”: This is like the very first moment of everything, just like the start of the Bible in Genesis 1:1, where God created the world. The Greek word archē means the start of all things. It's saying Jesus was there before anything was made. -“Was”: This Greek word tells us the Word didn't start existing—it was already there, always existing, forever. Jesus didn't have a beginning; He's eternal God. -“The Word”: The “Word” is Jesus. In Greek, Logos means God's way of speaking or showing Himself. Jesus is God's special way of talking to us and showing who God is. The word ho (the) means He's the one and only Word, not just any word. What this tells us: Jesus, the Word, was there before time began. He didn't get created because He's eternal, just like God. This shows us Jesus is God because only God has no beginning. Part 2: “And the Word was with God” What it says in Greek: kai ho Logos ēn pros ton Theon Simple meaning: “The Word was close to God.” -“Was with”: The Greek word pros means being right next to someone, like best friends who are always together. It shows Jesus was with God in close proximity, sharing a special relationship. -“God”: This is talking about God the Father. The Greek words show it's a specific person, not just a vague idea of God. Jesus, the Word, is not the Father, but He's with Him. What this tells us: Jesus is a distinct person from God the Father, but they're together as One. This shows Jesus is part of the Godhead, not a creation. It's a hint that God is more than one person but yet still one God. Part 3: “And the Word was God” What it says in Greek: Kai Theos ēn ho Logos Simple meaning: “The Word was God.” -“God”: In Greek, Theos means God, but here it doesn't have the word ho (the) like before. This doesn't mean Jesus is less than God. It's a way to say Jesus has all the qualities of God—He is God in His nature, not a different or smaller god. -“Was”: Again, this word shows Jesus didn't become God; He always was God, forever. What this tells us: Jesus, the Word, is fully God. He's not just like God or partly God—He is God, with all of God's power, glory, and nature. This is super important because it tells us Jesus isn't just a great person or a prophet; He's God Himself. Kai —— And Theos — God ēn ——- was (can also mean “always existed”- thus, “God ‘always existed' as the Word.”) ho —— the Logos — Word Our translators didn't get it wrong, it was proper to translate it “…and the Word was God,” in English in 1611. Saying “God was the Word” is like saying God's essence is perfectly shown in Jesus. It's two ways of saying the same thing: Jesus is truly, fully, 100% God. Christ came to fully reveal God to humanity, thus the Word was God and God was the Word. Why This Matters: Jesus is God — Yet there are approximately 10,000 world religions that claim He isn't. (Source: Google, Accessed 10-8-2025) John 1:1 is like a big sign shouting that Jesus is God. Here's what we learn: 1. Jesus is eternal: He was there “in the beginning,” before anything was made. Only God is eternal, so Jesus is God. 2. Jesus is close to God: He's with God the Father in a special, loving relationship, showing He's a person in the Godhead, not just a thing or idea. 3. Jesus is fully God: The Word is God, sharing all of God's qualities. This means Jesus has God's power, love, and glory. This verse sets up the whole Gospel of John, where we see Jesus do amazing things only God can do, like creating life (John 1:3) and forgiving sins (John 8:58). Later, in John 1:14 (“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth”), we learn that this Word became a human—Jesus! So, the God who was there forever (always existed) became a person to show us who God is and to save us. Summary of the Lesson on John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The verse is broken into three parts to show that Jesus, called “the Word” (Greek: ho Logos), is fully God. “In the beginning was the Word”: Jesus existed before everything, even before creation (like Genesis 1:1). The Greek word ἦν (was) shows He's eternal, with no beginning, proving He's God. “And the Word was with God”: Jesus is close to God the Father, like best friends, in a special relationship. The Greek πρὸς (pros) shows they're distinct but united, hinting at the Trinity. “And the Word was God”: Jesus is fully God, sharing all of God's qualities. The Greek Θεὸς (Theos) without “the” emphasizes His divine nature, not a lesser god. The phrase “the Word was God and God was the Word” reflects the Greek, emphasizing Jesus' full deity. In conclusion, John 1:1 teaches that Jesus is eternal, in close relationship with the Father, and fully God, setting the foundation for His identity as our Savior who became human (John 1:14). This one verse establishes the most outstanding case for the Deity of Christ, that is, Jesus Christ is God.

John 1:1-5
Listen to this man thinking about the text very closely and when he seems to come to the knowledge of the truth there seems to be a suppression of the truth that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God in human flesh. We praise God for the opportunity to witness to this man and we pray that the Father reveals His Son to him and grants him eternal life.
Welcome to Day 2134 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom The Gospel of John – 2 – Christ is the Eternal Word – Daily Wisdom Putnam Church Message – 01/30/2022 The Gospel of John – Christ the Eternal Word Today we continue our new Good News series according to John the Apostle. This message will present Jesus Christ as the author of all creation. John's prologue offers four reasons to believe that Jesus Christ, the Word, is God: The Word is eternal; He had no beginning, and He will have no end (1:1–2). The Word is the Creator; all things were made through Him (1:3). The Word is the Source of life; nothing remains alive apart from Him (1:4–13). The Word, though completely human, fully reveals the Father (1:14–18). Before we examine these reasons in detail, I will read John 1:1–18 in the NLT; if you wish to follow along, it is on Pages 1645-1646 in the Pew Bible. Take note of John's deliberate progression from infinity and eternity down to the single individual, Christ, in whom all that is infinite and eternal resides. I would recommend keeping this passage open as we go throughout the message today: John 1:1-18 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He came into the very world he created, but the world didn't recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father's one and only Son. John testified about him when he shouted to the crowds, “This is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘Someone is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.'” From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses, but God's unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father's heart. He has revealed God to us. The Word is eternal; He had no beginning, and He will have no end. In eternity past, before the beginning of anything—space, time, matter—in the indefinite expanse of timeless existence, in the beginning, He that had no beginning, “the Word” was existing in an eternal, infinite “present.” The NLT is a literal rendering of John's first...
John begins by showing us the source of life, telling us why some reject this life, and how to receive this life abundant - it's only received as a gift through the one who purchased it for us…. His name is Jesus. For this week's Outline and Community Group questions, download our app or visit hillsidefellowship.org, click on Resources and find today's sermon.Support the show

“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:17In this episode, we dwell together on the final piece of the armor of God, laid out for us in Christ - the word of God. We take a look at the commentary from Charles Spurgeon on this particular verse, considering that the sword of the Spirit is the only offensive weapon noted in the text. Together we ponder both the tenderness and the power of the Spirit, the voice of our shepherd, and the pages of scripture accessible to us, full of God-breathed words.
