During World War II, a Nazi collbatoring regime governed the south of France, and the city of Toulouse was a Resistance hub. The Vichy Government promoted anti-Semitism and collaborated with the Nazis, most specifically by deporting Jews to concentration and extermination camps. Fragmented Resistance fighters organized to form escape networks and build logistics chains to sabotage and disrupt the regime. In 1977, former Resistance members created a community museum in Toulouse about their experience. Today, that museum is called the Museum of Resistance and Deportation in Haute-Garonne, France, and is run by the regional government. Museum director Jérôme Blachon is reimagining how the museum tells the story of the French Resistance as the people who experienced firsthand pass away. In this episode, Blachon describes the challenge of presenting the fragmented nature of the resistance to a modern audience, the 2020 renovation of the museum, and his focus on transmitting precious memories.
Born in Israel to Holocoust survivors, came to America at the age of 9, grew up in the Bronx New York, graduated from City University of New York with a degree in Marketing and International Trade, Moved to California post graduation, traveled around the world for 6 months and returned to a successful real estate career as a residential broker in the San Fernando Valley. When interest rates reached 18-20% in the late 70’s I sought out a new career in the automotive service field with the concept of bringing the repair service to the customer’s home, office and on the road. Initially set out to build a AAA like franchise that would do more than just tow, fix a flat and bring a stranded motorist gas. The idea was to provide minor repair and road service at your door. The demand grew to a point where a physical shop location was required and hence was born, AutoAid. At the same location since 1986, in business overall since 1979, AAA approved with 100% customer satisfaction awards for 2009 &2010, Certified Female Friendly and Angies List Super Service Award recipient for 2009 & 2010. AutoAid: Driven to get you there safely.
