Interview No. 21 with Jamie Stillman of Harriet the Spy, The Party of Helicopters, Fringe Candidate, Relaxer, and the founder of the effects pedal company Earthquaker Devices!
If you are not familiar with the name Jamie Stillman, you have certainly heard his work. Jamie is the founder of EarthQuaker Devices and he is responsible for keeping guitarists and bassists on their toes while on stage and in the studio for several years. If you think this is a gear-only episode, brace yourself... there is so much more here. Jamie has a storied past as a drummer, guitarist, bassist, label head, tour manager, and much much more. Tons of funny stories in this one and a really fun conversation overall. If you want to hear the nitty gritty on gear, amps, axes, and all the stuff we probably shouldn't say in public, check out the Rigs of Dad Patreon Page for extended and unedited interviews with Jamie and all my other guests. www.patreon.com/rigsofdad
We’re kicking the new year off with Jamie Stillman guitarist of Relaxer as well as the man main behind Earthquaker Devices, a company that defines innovations when it comes to guitar effects. I caught up with Jamie when Relaxer rolled through town for a gig at Saint Vitus. Before all of this, Jamie was involved in the D.I.Y. hardcore scene. To me at least, it feels like Earthquaker is an extension of that ethic. We get into it all on this episode!Intro: “The Endless Slope” RelaxerOutro: “Abracdadver” Party of Helicopters See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Today we welcome Jamie Stillman from EarthQuaker Devices, an effects pedal company out of Akron, Ohio. Jamie was also in bands you may have heard of like The Party of Helicopters, Fringe Candidate, Relaxer (his current band,) and my favorite, Harriet the Spy. Harriet the Spy was a band out of Kent, Ohio that was around from 1993-1998 and was an actual screamo band. They were one of the first screamo bands I ever heard when I started getting into all of this stuff. Also from 1993 to 2002, Jamie ran Donut Friends Records and put out a ton of punk, metal, and shoegaze acts. What’s even more fascinating than his band/label stories, or his time as a tour manager that you’ll hear about, is how Jamie started an effects pedal company. It’s a testament to pursuing what you love leads to your work. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/washedupemo)
