In this episode, I chat with graphic designer Alastair Walker. After spending 13 years building his career in Manchester, rising through the ranks to creative director, Alastair took a step back to reassess. A four-month break in Vienna gave him the space to reflect and a desire for change eventually led him north to Dundee. We explore the relationship between software skills and creative thinking, the importance of building long-term trust with clients and whether designers should be managing projects or focusing on the work itself. Alastair shares how joining Creative Dundee's Amps programme helped him build early connections and why he believes Dundee has the potential to nurture and celebrate small-scale creativity. We also get into the shifts between freelancing and full-time roles, and the bigger picture of what design means in and for Dundee. It's a thoughtful and honest look at a creative career that's evolved through curiosity, intention, and a desire to make meaningful work. https://www.alastairwalker.me/ https://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/archives/series/the_follow_up

Armor modeling enthusiasts, mark your calendars! In this deep-dive conversation with Neil Stokes, newly elected President of the Armor Modeling and Preservation Society (AMPS), we unveil everything you need to know about the upcoming AMPS International Convention taking place May 15-17, 2025, at the Penn Harris Hotel in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.Neal shares details about what promises to be their biggest show yet, with approximately 700 competition models expected and over 110 vendor tables already booked. Located just across the river from Harrisburg and near both Hershey Park and Gettysburg Battlefield, the venue offers convenience for attendees and activities for accompanying family members. What sets AMPS apart from other modeling competitions? Every single entry receives written feedback from judges, helping modelers understand their strengths and areas for improvement. This educational approach has fostered an incredibly high standard of craftsmanship that continues to impress even veteran attendees.Beyond the competition floor, visitors can look forward to special attractions including "Lady Lois," a full-scale M3A1 Stuart tank on display Friday, an extensive raffle, and seven specialized seminars including four hands-on workshops covering advanced modeling techniques. This year's theme is "African Armor," encompassing everything from World War II North African campaign vehicles to modern conflict equipment. Neil offers insight into AMPS' strategic future, actively reaching out to "armor-adjacent" modeling communities including sci-fi, Gundam, and Warhammer enthusiasts. These newer modelers often enter the hobby through different cultural influences but bring tremendous talent and fresh perspectives that enrich the traditional armor modeling community.Whether you're a dedicated armor modeler, curious about expanding your skills, or simply love meticulously crafted miniatures, the AMPS International Convention offers something for everyone.Model Paint SolutionsYour source for Harder & Steenbeck Airbrushes and David Union Power ToolsSQUADRON Adding to the stash since 1968Model PodcastsPlease check out the other pods in the modelsphere!PMM Merchandise StoreSupport the show with PMM Merchandise!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Gibson has never been known for their amps. Though we may revere certain models, they pale in collectability with those made by Fender of the same era. After years of slow amp sales, Norlin, the owner of Gibson from 1969-1986, decided to start a new amp division under its own name, Lab Series. To design the new line, they turned to another division they owned, Moog, and they were tasked with making a transistor amp that sounded like a tube amp, and looked traditional, yet cutting-edge circuitry. Today, we look at the Lab Series line, and go through the unique features that made this a favorite for B.B. King, Ray Flacke, Ty Tabor, Alan Holdsworth, and Ricky Skaggs.  Follow me on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/askzac/To Support the Channel:Patreon  https://www.patreon.com/AskZacTip jar:  https://paypal.me/AskZacVenmo @AskZac Or check out my store for merch  - https://my-store-be0243.creator-spring.com/Support the show

IDLES 2021 Rig Rundown: https://youtu.be/ZyofmA3bJk4Subscribe to PG's Channel: http://bit.ly/SubscribePGYouTubeBetween 2016 and 2024, Bristol outfit IDLES have gone from being snarling, post-punk underdogs to being snarling, post-punk champions. Their debut LP, Brutalism, was an immediate hit, and since then they've turned out a string of full-length records that have expanded their creative vocabulary while increasing their popularity. It's all come to a head this year with Tangk, their Grammy-nominated fifth album, which dropped in February.Along the way, IDLES' sound has mutated into experimental offshoots and outgrowths, so it's little surprise that the rigs of guitarists Mark Bowen and Lee Kiernan, along with bassist Adam Devonshire, have done the same. While they still tour with some of the gear they showed off on our 2021 Rig Rundown, each player has fun new trinkets that contribute to their run of shows this year. But even with all the new toys, they keep an element of danger in the mix, and certain variables mean the set sounds different every night: “People come to see an IDLES show 'cause it almost falls apart all the time,” grins Bowen.IDLES 2021 Rig Rundown: https://youtu.be/ZyofmA3bJk4Subscribe to PG's Channel: http://bit.ly/SubscribePGYouTubeWin Guitar Gear: https://bit.ly/GiveawaysPG Don't Miss a Rundown: http://bit.ly/RIgRundownENLMerch & Magazines: https://shop.premierguitar.comPG's Facebook: https://facebook.com/premierguitarPG's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/premierguitar/PG's Twitter: https://twitter.com/premierguitarPG's Threads: https://threads.net/@premierguitarPG's TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@premierguitar0:00 - Electronic Audio Experiments & D'Addario0:15 - IDLES Live0:39 - Chris Kies Intro0:59 - Mark Bowen's Baritone Stratocasters5:37 - Mark Bowen's "Stinky" 1972 Strat7:43 - Mark Bowen's Amps & Cabinets10:14 - Mark Bowen's Fender Mustang with Fishman TriplePlay12:57 - Mark Bowen's "Crawler" Pedal & Synth Rig16:17 - Recreating Tangk Album Live Onstage20:10 - Mark Bowen's Sonic Curiousity22:19 - Does Joe Talbot Get Tired of Gear Experimentation?23:17 - Working with Nigel Godrich on Tangk25:14 - Lee Kiernan Intro25:45 - Lee Kiernan's Fender 70th Anniversary Esquire27:54 - Lee Kiernan's Fender Mustang29:55 - Lee Kiernan's Jackson Soloist SL132:12 - Lee Kiernan's Amps33:20 - Lee Kiernan's Marshall 1987X Plexi35:34 - Lee Kiernan's Hiwatt Custom DR8836:35 - Lee Kiernan's 1970s Peavey Deuce40:00 - Rig Rundown & D'Addario40:23 - Lee Kiernan's Pedalboard40:55 - Lee Kiernan's Pedals for "Jungle"45:57 - Lee Kiernan's Pedals for "Dancer"50:41 - Lee Kiernan's New Earthquaker Devices Gary Pedal55:39 - Lee Kiernan's Baritone Esquire56:36 - Lee Kiernan's Pedals for "Roy"01:03:00 - Adam Devonshire Intro01:03:44 - Adam Devonshire's Fender American Ultra Jazz Bass01:04:38 - Adam Devonshire on IDLES Gear Evolution01:06:15 - Adam Devonshire on Holding Down Rhythm with Jon Beavis01:07:07 - Adam Devonshire on Bass Influences01:08:19 - Adam Devonshire Custom Neck for Jazz Bass01:09:30 - Adam Devonshire on Recreating Tangk Onstage01:11:25 - Adam Devonshire's 1970s Fender Precision Bass01:14:25 - Adam Devonshire's Serek Lincoln Bass01:16:04 - Adam Devonshire's Fender & Hiwatt Amps01:17:08 - Adam Devonshire's Pedalboard01:24:55 - D'Addario Strings[Brought to you by D'Addario: https://ddar.io/wykyk-rr]© Copyright Gearhead Communications LLC, 2024#guitar #rigrundown #idles #guitarist #guitarplayer #guitargear #bass #bassguitar

The use of this stimulant (and its generics), known by street names like A-Train, Addy, Amps, Christmas Trees, Co-Pilots, Lid Poppers, Smarties, Study Buddies, and Study Skittles has exploded from 35.5 million prescriptions in 2019 to 45 million in 2022. But these numbers only scratch the surface. A dangerous black market has emerged, flooding streets with counterfeit pills indistinguishable from the real thing. Users, often unaware, risk their lives with every dose. Even legitimate prescriptions carry significant dangers. The DEA warns we're on the brink of our next drug crisis. With 5-6 million Americans using Adderall without proper diagnosis and one in four teens in some schools abusing prescription stimulants, we're watching a new generation spiral into un-prescribed/unneeded use and addiction.

Slam the Gavel welcomes Carrie Haight, a licensed therapist of 20 years to the podcast. Her story began in November of 2021 when her daughter's leg swelled out of no where. At the time it appeared like maybe she just got a small injury from new sports equipment, but that wasn't the case.     Her daughter began having more symptoms of swelling and severe pain in both legs, extreme migraines, constant vomiting, couldn't fight any virus or infection, fatigue and many more symptoms that made no sense at the time. Sadly, due to a false call to CPS, which led to nearly 2 years of knowingly false accusations and court orders that refused her to see a doctor.     In May of 2023, all was cleared, but her daughter was still not any better and she was getting worse. The legal fees alone were enough to break a two income household, but Carrie's daughter only has her mother. She is her MIRACLE child from an anonymous IVF donor.     In August of 2023 she saw her Rheumatologist who she hadn't seen in a very long time, due to court orders, who finally figured this out, but she also figured out there was more than just what she could diagnose and help treat. This was not Munchausen By Proxy as CPS was trying to label her with.    Carrie's daughter was diagnosed with AMPS (it is basically a wider spread version of Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome), but that wasn't explaining why she was constantly catching everything she came in contact with, but worse than an average healthy child. Her daughter has a permanent compromised immune system. She has a low Immunoglobulin M, which can't be treated any other way than monthly IVIG or a subcutaneous version of IVIG, given weekly. This is a treatment that she will need for the rest of her life.     Carrie thought she had great medical insurance, but she was wrong. Insurance will not cover the cost of an intensive outpatient that would be holistic approach as she's only 10 and the medications used are too dangerous, or the cost of a nurse to administer the IVIG.     Finally figuring this out, but not before they lost everything financially to fight the false allegation (and these treatments are ridiculously expensive).      Losing 2 years of being able to be a child, was just not right. Carrie is working 3 jobs, and it is still not helping to dent the bills so she can at least be around other children so she can socialize and play. Carrie having MS herself, was wearing herself so thin she feared that she won't be able to keep up with her daughter's needs if she doesn't slow down even a little.      Carrie will continue to advocate for others and in the future, run for Senate. To Reach Carrie Haight:  dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.com******** Supportshow(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)Maryann Petri: dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.comhttps://www.tiktok.com/@maryannpetriFacebook:  https://www.youtube.com/@slamthegavelpodcasthostmar5536Instagram: Support the showSupportshow(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)http://www.dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.com/

Bryan Orr and Steve Rogers dive deep into measuring power consumption in HVAC blower motors, particularly focusing on the differences between PSC (Permanent Split Capacitor) and ECM (Electronically Commutated Motor) technologies. The discussion stems from a question raised at an educators' conference about the accuracy of clamp-on meters in measuring blower motor watt draw, as specified in the ACCA Standard 310. Steve shares insights from extensive testing conducted with different types of motors and power meters. The tests compared PSC motors with constant torque and constant airflow ECM motors across various static pressure conditions. One key finding was that two out of three field-available clamp-on meters tested were capable of accurately measuring true power at levels expected in residential blower motors. However, one meter showed significant inaccuracy at low power levels, highlighting the importance of carefully reviewing meter specifications before use. The conversation delves into the concept of power factor and its crucial role in understanding the true power consumption of ECM motors. Steve explains that ECM motors often have a low power factor (around 0.6), which can lead to misconceptions about their efficiency if only the current draw is measured. The discussion emphasizes the need for proper measurement techniques, including simultaneous voltage and current readings with the blower door on, to accurately assess motor efficiency. Key topics covered in the podcast: Differences between PSC and ECM motor technologies Importance of power factor in measuring true power consumption Accuracy of field-available clamp-on meters for power measurement Impact of static pressure on motor performance and efficiency Misconceptions about ECM motor efficiency and longevity Proper measurement techniques for assessing blower motor watt draw Relationship between duct system design and motor efficiency Implications of ACCA Standard 310 for HVAC installations Challenges in comparing constant torque and constant airflow ECM motors The role of control algorithms in ECM motor performance Importance of understanding meter specifications for accurate measurements   Have a question that you want us to answer on the podcast? The band toured the Southeast, gaining a large fan base before releasing their debut album, “Stuff,” in 1998 to critical acclaim.  Shortly after that, Roger signed a publishing deal as a writer with Acuff-Rose/Idea Music. Through this publishing deal he started producing and engineering his own demos.
