Seattle Theatre Critic Jay Irwin returns to discuss with Silas his latest happenings as a live theatre critic and to listen to Silas' tale of a bad usher ruining his theatre experience at a recent production.

"What are the types of sexualities? Abrosexual An abrosexual person is someone with fluid sexuality, whose sexuality and preferences may change throughout their lives. Different levels of sexual (and romantic) feelings through time are very common—and sometimes people identify their sexuality as "fluid"—but the distinction for an abrosexual person is that these periods of change can happen quickly and with different intensities. It can also look like changing one's actual sexual orientation. There's no limitation or norm regarding an abrosexual person's orientation, but it often shifts between two to three sexualities in regular or random cycles, Katherin Winnick, a sex coach at LetsTalkSex.net, has told Cosmo. Allosexual Allosexual simply means a person who experiences any kind of sexual attraction—so it covers sexualities on this list that don't fall under asexuality. The asexual community has called attention to the privilege inherent in this identity since it's considered the "norm" sexuality. Androsexual There are a few definitions of androsexuality, but the most common is "a person who is attracted to individuals on the masculine side of the gender spectrum," Dr. Jay Irwin, associate professor of sociology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, has told Cosmo. "Sometimes this is interpreted as individuals who are attracted to cisgender men (that is, people who were assigned male at birth and also identify as a man), but that binary-based definition is typically too narrow for how individuals who identify as androsexual see their sexuality." So it may mean, for example, that an androsexual person is attracted to aspects of masculinity regardless of one's sex assigned at birth, including physical appearance, behavior, smell, and so on. A lesser-used definition of androsexual is someone who is attracted to nonbinary people. Asexual Asexual can be a catch-all that very broadly means a person who doesn't experience sexual attraction to other people. Although there's a false stereotype to the contrary, asexual people may want friendships, emotional intimacy, and potentially love connections. After a fruitful and successful 23-year career in the computer software industry, a near-death experience inspired Jay Irwin to transform his life and make a difference in the world. An adventurous soul who’s determined to inspire through wilderness experiences, Jay’s transition from the computer software industry to experiential leadership development didn’t happen overnight. While working with some of the largest computer software companies in the world, Jay started to realize his passion around wilderness adventure could enhance his experience leading and inspiring companies to increase their productivity and success via software solutions. That realization almost never came to fruition. After a morning skiing in the backcountry of Colorado, Jay found himself in the wrath of an avalanche. During the 8-hour struggle in the snow and debris, visions of his family kept his heart warm and as he was pulled out of the snow and on his way to surgery, Jay knew that he wanted to make changes to his life to help make a positive impact in his children’s lives and on the world. That determination stuck with Jay through his lengthy recovery, after which he set out on a year-long sabbatical to reconnect with the things in his life that mattered: his family and his love of adventure. A vision during a solo backpacking trip led Jay to start combining his love of adventure with the desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Jay now owns CBST Adventures, where he teaches audiences, from inner-city youth to C-suite executives, how to bring the gifts learned from wilderness experiences into daily life to create powerful and long-lasting change. In this fabulous episode of Black & A Half, Manny and Silas sit down with actor, director, and theater reviewer Jay Irwin! Jay talks with them about being a Seattle reviewer and the complications that go with also being a local actor. They also talk extensively about the Seattle web series he is an actor in Chop Socky Boom, a hilarious comedy which just successfully funded a Kickstarter for its second season. About the Guest Jay Irwin is a Seattle native and has been working in Seattle Theater for about 20 years.  He is a local actor, director and writer.  Most recently he was seen as Edna in “Hairspray” at Seattle Musical Theatre and in Theater Schmeater’s Summer park show production of “Hansel and Gretel”.  Off stage Jay just finished directing “The Boys Next Door” for STAGEright and also writes theater reviews for BroadwayWorld.com.  Jay is also one of the actors in the local web series “Chop Socky Boom” and can also be seen in such films as “Creatures of the Pink Lagoon”, “Daylight Savings Time” and “Render Me Dead”.
