They're everywhere. They're inside you. You can't escape them - and can't live without them: Bacteria! We're joined by microbiology experts Maddy Love and Kurt Jude to talk about the fascinating (but sometimes disgusting) lifeforms we call "bacteria." What is bacteria? Support this show at patreon.com/incitingincidentpodcast . We are 92 percent of the way to our first goal! NOTE: Yes, Rissy accidentally said Nambia and has been obsessing over that embarrassing mistake all week. OTHER NOTE: Sick Rissy means this week's interview was pushed back to next week. Enjoy in the meantime. From Friday night at Skepticon, a panel on diversifying voices in the atheist community. Hosted by Stephanie Zvan, and featuring Rissy, Maddy Love, and Chris Watson. This show is part of the Trans Podcaster Visibility Initiative.
In this episode Maddy Love sits down with Jim Fitzsimons aka Dr. Dim host and producer of Dimland Radio. Jim is "The Skeptic" on a radio network that is devoted to woo and the paranormal, and he brings his love of critical thinking, skepticism, baseball, and The Who along with a healthy dose of pedantry right to your earbuds every Saturday night at 11:00 pm Central. I had the privilege of sharing the stage with Maddy Love and Marissa McCool at Skepticon 10 for a panel entitled 'Diversifying Atheist Voices', which we all thought was ironic because we were three White people! We realized, however, that the subject was not ourselves but the guests we had on our shows. We have all certainly tried to have different perspectives on our respective shows. I didn't talk much, mostly because I was the token allocishet White guy, and Maddy and Marissa are much more experienced in then I am. Nevertheless, it was an honor and privilege to be on the same stage as them, and I especially want to thank Stephanie Zvan for making this panel possible, as well as moderating the panel. I hope y'all enjoy!
Support our efforts to #HecktheCis at patreon.com/qafThis past weekend, Rissy and Maddy Love attended Skepticon in Springfield. In addition to the panel on diversifying atheist voices, they also gave a workshop on starting a podcast. At ten AM. That's a harsh lesson in and of itself. Talking about podcasts at ten AM, being at a workshop at a skeptic conference at ten AM on a Saturday, and recording a podcast at ten AM: all antithetical to at least my usual process of podcasting. And skepticking. And conferencing. Plus, Rissy just started a full-time job with a lot of noise triggers. So here, enjoy Rissy and Maddy Love recording and presenting live for those who were also up at that hour and chose to attend our session. This week on Transition Transmission we invite Maddy Love back to the show for another round of fun. We had so much fun in fact that we barely managed to stay on topic at all. But we try. So join the Transgender Trio +1 as we talk about Say Yes To The Dress, The Danish Girl, The Oscars, and why you should care about the HUD's new interests. We also go way off subject and get into something resembling a joke off there at the end. So join us for episode 73 of Transition Transmission www.transitiontransmission.com@TransgenderTrio ____ Guest: Maddy Love of the Minnesota Trans-Atheist Podcast@TransAtheistPod
Today's guest is Maddy Love, host of A Minnesota Trans-Atheist Podcast. She’s a 38-year-old trans woman who, according to the podcast’s iTunes page, “talks with and about people in the trans, atheist, skepticism, and science communities.” I also give everyone a quick update on how I'm doing since my short social media break. Enjoy!
Transition Transmission is a by and for transgender podcast. This podcast is the celebration of not only our 50th episode, but our 2nd year anniversary! We invited back some of the guests we've had on the show in the past to join us for a round table discussion where everyone brings a topic to the table and we go around the room and discuss it. Our guests include Trans counselors, Dara Hoffman-Fox, and Jan Scott-Frazier. A transgender atheist, Maddy Love. Our always altruistic, Bunny. Podcast pal, August. Fellow co-host, Ramona Knotts. And your host, Amber Neko Meador. Join us as we talk discuss topics including: -How do I know if I'm trans? -How to respond to social media attacks? -Were we born boys, girls, or babys? -How is trans representation in the media changing? -How does one become a good trans ally? -How does one adjust/cope/make peace with being transgender and belonging to a religion or church? -Coming out advice and thoughts? -And what about third gender options? Or fourth? Or fifth? So join us for a long, but very interesting podcast as we go around the room and discuss what's on our minds :) www.transitiontransmission.com @TransgenderTrio

I left many minutes of laughter on the audio cutting room floor. We talk about some serious stuff, some audio stuff, snoring dogs, and why its important to name your children after Arabic Numerals (hint its not so they think the Brittany Spears song "3" was written about them) Leading up to the interview I tell the story of how my son came out to me as transgender, a story I just recently received permission to tell. I discuss Ferguson briefly and refuse to offer solutions - perhaps its time we listened to the black community. The show wraps up with music by Lillian Gish, "The Critic" the second track from their newest album "And Sing Do the Ghosts Of New Amsterdam" You can find more of Lillian Gish at: https://www.facebook.com/lilliangish http://lilliangish.bandcamp.com/ https://soundcloud.com/lilliangishuk As always many thanks to Obsidian Shell for the opening and bumper music in each episode.
