“Ultimately, you don't need to have any certification. You need to have some level of experience where you can speak authentically and congruent. It's gotta be congruent with how you feel about your knowledge.”Clinton Young knows what it's like to hit rock bottom—and how to turn that experience into fuel for an inspiring speaking career. After losing his business and confidence during the 2008 financial crisis, everything shifted thanks to a tough-love moment at a seminar and a game-changing podcast episode. Now, as a sought-after speaker and coach, Clinton helps others build clarity, confidence, and the systems they need to get booked and paid to speak.Clinton's secret sauce? It's all about systems—the thing that separates hobby speakers from true professionals. Instead of trying to talk to everyone about everything, he challenges speakers to focus on what they're great at (credibility), what fires them up (excitability), and where the real opportunities are (profitability). The biggest thing that holds most people back? Imposter syndrome. Clinton's quick to remind us that even the best feel uncertain sometimes, but the key is taking action anyway—and shifting the focus from your own nerves to the people you're there to serve.Success in speaking isn't about waiting for gigs to magically appear—you've got to have a clear system, a focused message, and the drive to keep showing up. Clinton's story is proof that when you ditch the “someday” mindset and get serious about building the right framework, you can turn speaking into a real, thriving career—no matter where you're starting from. You'll learn:The importance of systems in speakingOvercoming limiting beliefs and imposter syndromeManaging nerves and the psychological side of speakingHow to identify audiences and topicsA framework for finding your nicheUnderstanding and establishing credibilityBuilding relationships with event organizersHow to stand out among other speakersAnd much, much more!“And by far, in my opinion, the biggest thing that stops people is ourselves. In this powerful and personal conversation, I'm joined by the unforgettable Ramona J. Smith — 2018 Toastmasters International World Champion of Public Speaking. Ramona's story is about far more than public speaking accolades. It's a journey of courage, confidence, and claiming her worth — financially, personally, and professionally. From teaching high school to setting stages ablaze across five continents, Ramona opens up about what it really took to transform her mindset and bank account. We explore the pivotal role my book Worthy played in helping Ramona shift from a scarcity story into a self-worth-centered approach to money and business. With boldness, honesty, and fire, she shares how she rewrote her internal narrative, raised her prices, and finally began to live — and earn — in alignment with her value. Whether you're a coach, speaker, entrepreneur, or anyone ready to ditch people-pleasing and step into unapologetic worth, this episode is a must-listen. What we explore together: The behind-the-scenes of how Ramona went from classroom to global stages How a conversation with another champion led her to my book ‘Worthy' Worthiness as the foundation of wealth Why affirmations alone won't change your bank account How to find the courage to raise your rates and start charging what you're worth — today → Feeling stuck in your pricing, your self-worth, or your visibility? Start with the inner work. Pick up a copy of Worthy and do the exercises, then, just like Ramona – take action! And if you're ready for deeper support, reach out to me at nancylevin.com! Episode 60: Finding Joy and Purpose Through Obedience with Krystal Hunsucker About Our Guest Krystal Hunsucker is a vibrant woman of faith who brings energy and authenticity to everything she does. Here's a little more about her: Boy mom to two sons (ages 5 and 9) Mary Kay Sales Director since 2002 (working her business for 25 years) Professional emcee and public speaker Passionate about worship music and singing Lives in McKinney, Texas with her husband Brad and their two sons Krystal grew up in Abilene, Texas before finishing high school and college in Oklahoma (she's a proud Sooner!). She loves makeup, fashion, sparkles, and her signature "color" is literally color – she embraces brightness in all aspects of life! Episode Highlights: Rhythms That Restore In this special one-year anniversary episode, Krystal shares how she's discovered rhythms that restore her mind, heart, body, and spirit through various seasons of life. Her story beautifully illustrates how finding peace and joy through obedience to God creates sustainable rhythms of rest and renewal. Finding Her Purpose Early At just 21-22 years old, Krystal read "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren, which helped her identify her life's purpose: "to lead and inspire and encourage women." This purpose has guided her life's direction, and she's seen how God has consistently placed her in positions to fulfill this calling. Daily Rhythms That Restore Krystal maintains her spiritual growth and finds daily restoration through: Following The Bible Recap (she's in her third year using it) Leading Bible study Weekly church attendance Worship music that realigns her heart Teaching her boys by example Finding quiet time in her car (her "peace filling spot") Viewing each day as an opportunity for "daily bread" rather than trying to plan too far ahead Her Faith Journey While Krystal grew up in church, she experienced a powerful "wrangling" moment during her junior year of college. She had drifted from her spiritual foundation and was in an unhealthy relationship when her boyfriend unexpectedly suggested attending a Shane & Shane concert. There, she had a profound Holy Spirit encounter that left her in tears throughout the concert. A week later, she ended the relationship, and "everything changed" in her life. Lessons in Obedience and Surrender Krystal shared powerful examples of how obedience to God has blessed her life: Dating journey: She remained patient and selective for over 10 years, writing out Proverbs 31 with her name in it, creating a detailed list of qualities she sought in a partner, and going on many first dates while being obedient to not "waste time with the wrong person" She met her husband Brad on a blind date at age 33 and married at 34 Parenting her youngest son: She described the indescribable blessings that came through fully surrendering and obeying God's guidance God's Movement in Her Life Krystal and Brad have been married for almost 11 years and have two sons. She shared a beautiful perspective: "I am truly and honestly feel like I am living my dream," though she sometimes has to remind herself to fully embrace and enjoy this season of life that she worked so hard for. Advice to Her Younger Self Although she was blessed with great parents and natural confidence as a child, Krystal would remind her younger self to keep seeking God during seasons of doubt, remembering that "obedience creates peace, even when it's not easy." Krystal's Challenge to Listeners "Daily seek Him. I don't know what that looks like for each person but figure out what moves you. On the days you don't feel moved or on the busy days when the day slips by and it's been one or two days since you've dug into the Word, get back to what you know to do. Whether it's worship music, prayer writing, listening to the Bible, reading the Bible, a podcast, or a sermon - there are so many options. Whatever fills your soul with Him, do it and then do it again until on the days you don't, you wake up the following day hungry and ready to return." Resources Mentioned The Bible Recap (Tara-Leigh Cobble's Bible reading plan and podcast) "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren John Gordon's work John Maxwell's books Worship music: "Worthy is the Lamb" and Forrest Frank's "God is Good" Shane & Shane's music Connect with Krystal Visit: http://vipeurl.com/1rgud3d Support the Rhythms That Restore Podcast This episode celebrates the one-year anniversary of the Rhythms That Restore podcast (Episode 60)! Long before becoming an award-winning educator, public speaker, and podcaster (of BFF: Black, Fat, Femme), Dr. Jonathan P. Higgins (aka Doctor Jon Paul) was just a kid sneaking movies while mom was at work. One of those films, 1993's This Boy's Life, became one of their favorites. That was in large part thanks to the aspirational friendship of main character Tobias "Jack" Wolff (Leonardo DiCaprio) and the closeted but undeniable Arthur Gayle. Doctor Jon Paul and Jordan discuss the film, the new book Black. Fat. “The speaking industry is one that has been around for generations…And it has survived wars, depressions, recessions, 9/11, pandemics, and it's not going anywhere.”Navigating the speaking industry can seem daunting with its ever-shifting trends and economic uncertainties. So this week, drawing from his extensive experience in the field, Shawn Hanks offers his seasoned perspective on how speakers can thrive amidst these changes.Shawn discusses the current optimism in the event market despite past economic caution as a result of the pandemic. Event planners are investing wisely in speakers who offer real strategic solutions, not just entertainment. This reinforces the importance of aligning speaking content with what organizations seek. The episode also highlights the enduring value of live events. While virtual events gained traction, they haven't supplanted the critical face-to-face human interaction that live gatherings offer.Additionally, Shawn advises speakers to balance staying current with trends like AI, without losing sight of timeless topics such as leadership or innovation. Authenticity remains crucial—chasing trends for the sake of visibility may backfire, but sticking to your core passions ensures long-term success. This adaptability while staying true to your message is key to maintaining a successful speaking career. For speakers, whether new or seasoned, Shawn's insights offer guidance on crafting a fulfilling and enduring career in the speaking industry! You'll learn:The nature of public speakingThe state of the speaking industryGrowth and trends in the speaking industry for 2025How economic considerations impact speakersThe future of the speaking industryContent evolution for speakersAnd much, much more!“Event planners aren't booking a speaker, they are solving a problem and the speaker is the avenue to solve that problem.”Episode ResourcesShawn's WebsiteGet Free Speaker ResourcesBook a Call with The Speaker LabCalculate Your Speaking FeeJoin The Speaker Lab Community on FacebookSubscribe on Apple PodcastsSubscribe on SpotifySee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Neurodiversity is an umbrella term which refers to understanding the diversity of all human brains, and the way in which we interact with the world. Often the variation is within behavioural traits that diversifies us from each other, and thankfully society is coming to a place of realising that it’s not a deficit to be neurodivergent, simply difference between one person to another. That being said, it’s taken too long for us to get to this understanding, and we still have a way to go. Thankfully for women like Madonna King , an Award Winning Journalist who has previously covered many areas including education around teen girls and their emotional and physical development, and Rebecca Sparrow - acclaimed Writer, Columnist and Public Speaker who raises awareness and advocates for teen friendship education and teen emotional development, both came together and combined powers to bring information, resources and spotlight the widely prevalent yet still misunderstood conditions that fall within the umbrella term of Neurodiversity. Both leaders in this area who are driven with personal passion and have dedicated their careers in covering children and teens development, have collated and created the book titled “Out of the Box”, as a call to action but also a one stop guide, for those like Rebecca, who wished back when her own child was diagnosed with Autism, that this type of information was available to navigate the unknown and overwhelm of a new diagnosis. As we learn in this book, and through listening to Rebecca and Madonna, knowledge is power when it comes to truly understanding who you are and how you are built to function. Knowing and understanding, can make those that feel different to the neurotypical, feel less alone and in fact, help the neurodivergent use it as their superpower.
