Soul Soil: Where Agriculture and Spirit Intersect with Brooke Kornegay

In part 2 of this series, Vail opens up about new ways to approach business, our relationship with ourselves, and seeing the world through a holistic lens and how that opens up possibilities unavailable to the linear cause-and-effect thinking of scientific logic. Vail Dixon is a regenerative farmer and holistic grazing mentor. Founder of Simple Soil Solutions, Grazing Power and ABC Beef, Vail grew up working on farms, climbing mountains and enjoying nature. While training to represent her country in the Olympics, a life threatening accident gave Vail an opportunity to experience healing through healthy food and natural methods – even when doctors told her it was impossible. This deeper understanding of our food and farming systems instilled in Vail a passion for healing our soils as a way to rejuvenate our ecology, economy and health. Vail conducts research on how humans affect the soil biology and how that impacts productivity. Learning about ways to repair damaged soil biologically led Vail to understand how animals and humans play a vital role in soil regeneration. Vail is passionate about joining with Nature to heal the land, our economy and ourselves. Besides farming full time, she connects with open-minded farmers who want to become successful adaptive managers and create abundance on their land. To this end she is building a Holistic grazing mentorship program called Grazing Power, on-farm Grow Your Soil workshops, and Living Soils biological soil-building mentorship program.   In this episode... Aired Wednesday, 24 January 2018, 8:00 PM ET Linda Kohanov - The Five Roles of a Master Herder We live in a world of complicated relationships. Professionally and personally, these relationships are driven by the traits each of us brings to them and the roles we assume. With disparate approaches to these relationships, problem solving, team building and progress may be difficult to achieve without a deeper understanding of the part each of us play. Is there an older, deeper, and simpler form of wisdom that we can call upon to better define our roles and succeed in both the work place and personal life? My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Linda Kohanov, says there is and it comes from good old-fashioned “horse sense.” Linda is beloved for her groundbreaking articulation of “the way of the horse,” an experiential wisdom known to riders for centuries but little studied or adapted for off-horse use. Linda has used this new model with executive teams at such companies as Nike, Chub Insurance and Raytheon. She is the author of The Power of the Herd and bestseller, The Tao of Equus and speaks and teaches internationally. She established Eponaquest Worldwide to explore the healing potential of working with horses and offers programs on everything from emotional and social intelligence, leadership, stress reduction and parenting consensus to build mindfulness. Her website is eponaquest.com and she joins me this week to discuss her new book, The Five Roles of a Master Herder—A Revolutionary Model for Socially Intelligent Leadership.

This week on Relationships 2.0 my guest is Linda Kohanov author of The Five Roles of a Master Herder: A Revolutionary Model for Socially Intelligent Leadership About the book: In The Five Roles of a Master Herder, Linda Kohanov adapts horse-inspired insights into powerful tools for developing collaborative leadership and managing change. Over thousands of years, Kohanov writes, “master herders” of nomadic herding cultures developed a multi-faceted, socially intelligent form of leadership combining the five roles of Dominant, Leader, Sentinel, Nurturer/Companion, and Predator. The fluid interplay of these roles allowed interspecies communities to move across vast landscapes, dealing with predators and changing climates, protecting and nurturing the herd while keeping massive, gregarious, often aggressive animals together — without the benefit of fences and with very little reliance on restraints. She includes an innovative assessment tool to help you determine which roles you currently overemphasize and which roles you may be ignoring — or even actively avoiding. Through this powerful and surprising book, Kohanov will show you how to recognize, cultivate, and utilize all five roles in the modern tribes of your workplace, family, and other social organizations. About the author: Through her Eponaquest Worldwide, established to explore the healing potential of working with horses, Linda Kohanov teaches internationally on subjects including leadership, social intelligence, and stress reduction. She lives near Tucson, Arizona.
