It is a truth (almost) universally acknowledged, that students should sit at the heart of – and take an active role – in their learning. By inviting students to work with their teachers to shape course materials, activities and even assessments, co-creation appears to offer a textbook solution. However, giving students greater agency over their learning is not without its challenges and some educators may find the idea of ceding control over their teaching decisions troubling. On this week's podcast, we speak to a leading proponent of co-creation in higher education, who has researched and published extensively on this pedagogical approach, as well using it in her own teaching. Catherine Bovill is a professor of student engagement and head of the programme design and teaching enhancement team in the Institute for Academic Development at the University of Edinburgh. She is also a visiting fellow at the University of Bergen in Norway and the author of dozens of research papers and a couple of books focused on co-creating in teaching and learning. She explains why and how educators should bring elements of co-creation into their teaching offering examples of how it can work in different contexts and addressing oft-voiced concerns. Ruth is joined by Caroline Latta, communications and engagement specialist and founder of OLOVUS, for a powerful conversation about what real co-design looks like when it moves beyond surveys, hypotheticals and “tell us what service you want.” This episode tells the story of a short break service for people with learning disabilities—re-imagined from the ground up. Instead of asking families to imagine a different service, Caroline and her team showed them what was possible. They took families and people with learning disabilities on visits to alternative short break providers: outdoor activity centres, community-based supports, spaces full of independence and joy rather than hospital-style care. The visits revealed moments of trust, connection and delight that completely reshaped the service design—and shifted the focus from “safe respite” to aspirational, joyful breaks that feel like holidays. I'm over the moon excited to be unveiling and sharing the 8 Feminine Leadership Archetypes with you in this 10th season as a way for 'how' we can move through these transformational times. These archetypes are a reflection of what happens when we bring feminine presence into leadership, and value it. They can help us to stay clear and centered + strong in playing our part + empowered to wisely create realities that are rooted in wholeness, sustainability, freedom, harmony, love, connection + possibility... even if the mainstream world is reflecting a different reality.  I developed the Feminine Leadership Archetype model and system in 2018, based on 15 years of in depth study in feminine archetypal energy that spans across cultures, the energy is planetary. These leadership archetypes describe feminine presence and power - which is often not valued, compensated or even acknowleged within the systems we work, live and operate in. Although it is the energy that often holds everything together. It's the invisible things people rely on us for. It's what creates environments and cultures that foster people's growth, creativity and connectivity.  The archetypes give us language, symbol, metaphor, image and a sense of the energy within us we can access and apply.
