Grace is also a force of energy and natural spring of positivity in the wide world of the tattoo, as you will hear in this in person chat with Pip. Positivity and new ways of thinking aren't always a given though, sometimes these are things that need to happen through experience and ultimately wisdom, all of which Grace has in abundance. Among other subjects including the one that you would indeed expect, Grace and Pip catch up on the joy of dogs and animals, how Grace founded Femme Fatale, the unfortunate side of tattoo work and the humans who contribute to it, humble origins, how misogyny can generate among women in toxic male environments, being a boss and how to do that, surviving abusive relationships in enabling towns, and fostering safe inclusive spaces for those who would benefit. Cerebral Women Art Talks Podcast

Ep.242 Shaunté Gates (b. 1979) lives and works in Washington, D.C. He studied at Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Bowie State University. Early in his career, Gates trained in oil painting and portraiture. His past experience as a tattoo artist and television motion graphics editor caused a profound shift in his artistic practice. His recent work employs a multidisciplinary approach, layering photography, painting, and found text to create dreamlike landscapes that explore labyrinthine social constructs and the physical sites that house and perpetuate them. Echoing the aesthetics of paper theater, his compositions unfold like intricate stage sets, where layered imagery and shifting perspectives evoke a sense of constructed reality and theatrical illusion. Gates was a participating artist in the Smithsonian Institution's “Men of Change” four-year traveling exhibition spanning ten museums, including the International African American Museum in Charleston, SC, California African American Museum, Cincinnati Underground Railroad Museum and Washington State History Museum (2019-23). He has been awarded the Louis Comfort Tiffany Biennial Grant (2022) and residencies with The Nicholson Project (2023), The Kennedy Center (2019) and Washington Project for the Arts (2018; 2017). Gates has work in esteemed private collections and institutions such as the Studio Museum in Harlem and Munson, Utica, NY. He has completed many public art commissions including Transcending, a painting commemorating the 140th anniversary of Howard University School of Law.  Photo credit: Biko Gates Artist https://www.shauntegates.com/ Virginia Tech https://artscenter.vt.edu/exhibitions/shaunte-gates.html Sperone Westwater  https://www.speronewestwater.com/artists/shaunte-gates#tab:slideshow Marc Straus https://marcstraus.com/artists/98-shaunte-gates/ FAD Magazine https://fadmagazine.com/2025/03/03/marc-straus-gallery-now-represent-shaunte-gates/ Zidoun-Bossuyt https://zidoun-bossuyt.com/artists/shaunte-gates/ | https://zidoun-bossuyt.com/exhibitions/shaunte-gates-poppies-parachutes-iii-we-should-be-flying-by-now/ Smithsonian https://menofchange.si.edu/exhibit/artist-pairings/shaunte-gates/ The Roanoker  https://theroanoker.com/events/shaunt%C3%A9-gates-2025/ Phillips Collection https://www.phillipscollection.org/event/2024-08-25-collaging-shaunte-gates Brooklyn Rail https://brooklynrail.org/2023/10/artseen/Shaunt-Gates-In-Light-of-the-Hunt/ Culture Type https://www.culturetype.com/tag/shaunte-gates/ Washington Informer Bridge https://wibridgedc.com/the-transformative-power-of-found-objects-with-shaunte-gates/ RUSH Philanthropic https://rushphilanthropic.org/artist/shaunte-gates/

What if your ego isn't the enemy—but a necessary part of your spiritual journey? In this episode, I'm diving deep into one of the most misunderstood parts of the human experience: the ego. So often in the spiritual world, we hear that we need to “kill the ego” or “rise above it,” but the truth is far more nuanced—and powerful. We'll unpack the true nature of the ego, exploring both its shadow aspects—like control, fear, and pride—and its light—the parts that drive our creativity, connection, and growth. I'll share why the ego isn't something to be eliminated, but integrated. When we demonize it, we miss the opportunity to actually understand what it's trying to show us about ourselves. We'll also talk about the very real consequences of living out of alignment with our true nature, the spiritual disconnection that so many feel, and how reconnecting with both the divine and your full humanity brings healing, clarity, and peace. This is an honest, heart-opening conversation that invites you into a more balanced, empowered relationship with yourself—ego and all.Tune in and let's walk this path to wholeness, together.Chapters00:00 Introduction to the Ego03:41 Understanding the Ego's Role in Spirituality09:10 The Misconceptions of the Ego12:39 Transcending the Ego vs. Being a Slave to It17:09 The Shadow Side of the Ego25:37 The Light Side of the Ego38:43 The Ego and the Absence of Light44:03 Understanding True Human Nature50:13 Navigating the Shadow and Light of the Ego59:19 The Consequences of Losing Our Soul01:06:19 The Spiritual Crisis and Identityego, spirituality, human experience, misconceptions, shadow side, light side, transcendence, identity, spiritual warfare, self-awareness, ego, light, human nature, spirituality, divine, enlightenment, shadow, soul, identity, consciousnessSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/ignite-the-spark-within. As we go into the final days of Pesach, the Geulah days, we dive into Rambams approach to the coming of Moshiach being "within nature". The Rambam explains that the core of Geulah is a natural world in which every Jew can fully live in alignment with Torah & mitzvos, deeply connected to Hashem. The Rebbe explains this as 2 stages of Moshiach. 1st stage - natural, 2nd stage - all the "extras" miracles! Miracles are not the essence, they are add ons, expressions of our incredible closeness with Hashem. (think wedding - covid times, we got the "essence" of the weddings - the bride, groom, and chuppah, vs regular times - with all add ons, dont lose sight of the essence). In the two stages of Geulah, the first is a natural reality where Moshiach empowers us to connect to Hashem in this world, and the second is a miraculous enhancement. But if we are zoche, if we live as our best selves today, those miracles can begin immediately. The Rebbe empowers us to believe in our own greatness and to break past our limits—this is really a miracle! Transcending nature. Through this, we will merit to see the full revelation of Moshiach and Hashem's open miracles, beginning now.Chelek Chof Zayin pg 191

It's not easy living on this planet, but a lot of what can make it a better experience is how we understand ourselves.  How what we see, and why we see it drives how we feel, and ultimately what we experience.I hope you find some value in my ramblings. In today's episode of Mojo for the Modern Man, I had a powerful conversation with Steven Wolt, whose journey from childhood trauma to redemption offers a masterclass in masculine transformation. Growing up near New York City with a physically violent father, Steven masked his inner turmoil behind athletic achievements and later financial success, becoming a high-flying executive while secretly battling depression and disconnection. What fascinated me was how his seven-figure income and outward success actually intensified his inner emptiness, driving him deeper into alcohol, drugs, and porn addiction until his spectacular professional implosion in 2008. The turning point came through a treatment program specifically addressing sex addiction and childhood trauma, leading to a recovery path that challenged everything he thought he knew about being a man. Now heading Valor Recovery, Steven helps others trapped in similar cycles, particularly around porn addiction and intimacy issues. His redefinition of masculinity – prioritizing vulnerability, honor and genuine connection over conquest and toughness – resonated deeply with me, especially his insight that "men need other men to become better men." The conversation left me reflecting on how many of us are still living by outdated masculine scripts that promise strength but deliver isolation instead.Website:

In this bitesize episode, we revisit a fascinating conversation with Michael Pollan, author of How to Change Your Mind and host of the Netflix series of the same name, about the transformative power of psychedelics and the profound experience of ego death. What happens when we realize we are not the mind, not the constant stream of thoughts we take as ‘me'? Psychedelics have long been used to dissolve the rigid limitations of the self, and Pollan explores how this temporary loss of ego can lead to lasting change—reducing anxiety, shifting perspectives, and offering a glimpse of a reality far beyond our usual mental constructs.

What does Catholic theology have to offer the field of counseling psychology? Catholic psychologist Dr. Greg Bottaro joins me to explore the concept of the "blueprint of the human being" according to Catholic thought, emphasizing that we are made in the image of God, which inherently involves a relational aspect. Dr. Bottaro outlines five essential marks of relationship that shape our identity: being made in God's image, being formed in relationships, experiencing wounds in relationships, finding healing through relationships, and ultimately being destined for eternal relationship with God.We discuss how these principles extend into family life and the ideal structures for nurturing healthy relationships. I ask Dr. Bottaro about the common perception that Catholicism promotes repression, and he offers a nuanced perspective, highlighting the importance of authentic human experience and the developmental journey toward becoming our best selves in right relation with all things.Throughout our dialogue, we aim to uncover how understanding our relational nature can lead to deeper healing and growth, both personally and within our families. This episode invites listeners to reflect on their own relationships and the transformative power of connection in the context of faith and psychology.Dr. Greg Bottaro is a Catholic psychologist, founder of the CatholicPsych Institute and creator of the CatholicPsych Model of Applied Personalism (CPMAP). He received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Institute for the Psychological Sciences, and works to integrate Catholic philosophy and theology with relevant psychology. He leads the CatholicPsych Institute's mission to, "Create a Catholic Standard for Mental Health."Before becoming a psychologist, Dr. Bottaro discerned a religious vocation with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (CFRs). He lived in the Bronx for four years following the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi. Under the mentorship of Fr. Benedict Groeschel, this experience formed him in the spirituality of Abandonment to Divine Providence, which he now integrates with his model of psychology, along with the discernment of God's will he learned from Fr. Benedict. In 2012, Dr. Bottaro returned to New York as a psychologist and founded the CatholicPsych Institute, which has continued to grow and serve clients around the world. Most recently he launched the CPMAP Certification to train others in their model of integrated accompaniment. He lives in Connecticut with his wife Barbra and their seven children. 00:00 Start[00:02:09] Catholic view of human being.[00:07:42] Eternal relationship and purpose.[00:08:14] The blueprint of the person.[00:15:48] Transcending space and time.[00:18:06] Inner goodness and relationships.[00:21:39] Corrective emotional experiences in relationships.[00:25:10] Objective truth and beauty.[00:30:31] The path to moral action.[00:33:25] Integrated approach to healing.[00:38:35] Communication skills for children.[00:41:29] Mirroring in parenting.[00:48:02] Growth through therapeutic experiences.[00:52:57] Purgatory as God's mercy.[00:54:05] Mercy in life and death.[00:58:57] Suffering and knowledge in purgatory.[01:03:39] Trust in God's mercy.[01:06:30] Loving God Through Neighborly Actions.[01:10:33] Marriage and maturity challenges.[01:15:57] Transcendent relationships in therapy.[01:18:58] Gender craze impact on families.ROGD REPAIR Course + Community gives concerned parents instant access to over 120 lessons providing the psychological insights and communication tools you need to get through to your kid. Send us a textWelcome to a sneak peek into The International Autism Summit 2024 with special guest speaker Devin MorriseyWhen doctors told three-year-old Devin Morrissey he would never graduate high school, attend college, or live independently, they couldn't have imagined he would one day help transform how the world sees autism. In his powerful presentation "Bringing Autism to the Center Stage," Devin takes us on a journey from his childhood diagnosis to becoming a Netflix personality, podcast host, and fierce advocate who consistently defies expectations.Growing up in Danville, California in the 1990s when autism was often viewed as a "death sentence," Devin didn't learn about his own diagnosis until age twelve. This revelation explained why he had been pulled from recess for various therapies and why certain aspects of social interaction felt challenging. Though initially struggling with this identity, Devin eventually embraced that "being normal is completely overrated" and that his differences were strengths to be celebrated.Devin's accomplishments speak volumes: bachelor's degrees in liberal arts and music from Whittier College, a master's degree from USC completed during the pandemic, experience as an elementary school teacher, and now working as a recruitment coordinator at Sabacon, a neurodiverse recruiting firm. Perhaps most recognizably, he appears as Dani Bowman's best friend on Netflix's Emmy Award-winning "Love on the Spectrum US," offering dating advice and support while helping bring authentic autism representation to mainstream media.Beyond the screen, Devin amplifies autistic voices through his blog "Autistic Superpower" and podcast "Autistically Unapologetic," where he interviews other autistic trailblazers about their experiences. Most recently, he's returned to his performing roots by joining Epic Players LA, a neurodiversity theater company, combining his passion for performance with autism advocacy.Ready to embrace your own authentic story? Hello beloved I've been moving in and out of grieving this week and wanted to share the root of humanities path back to peace through a reflection. May this be a mirror for us all. As we navigate through this dynamic and seemingly world we live in, there's a prevalent sense of division we often feel around us. However, the objectivity isn't in rectifying the world's divisive nature but in understanding our own individual identity and personal worth. It all starts with us. and I'm going to share a deep insight through teh etymology of the word, "STANDARDS."Take a moment, connect with your emotional system, your sense of personal power. What do you feel? Anger? Fear? Anxiety? Maybe paralysis, shame, a sense of powerlessness? Your emotional system is incredibly intelligent and at the core - you'll find issues of esteem, power, control, and even survival. But what are you really trying to survive? It's "power threats." Power threats are threats to your value. What's under threat is your sense of power as defined by your value. These threats can manifest as shame, humiliation, a feeling of losing value in the eyes of others. Think about it: how do you get value in the world? How have you been taught to be valuable?Which brings me to the illusion of standards. Isn't it intriguing how "standard" signifies standing firm, much like a flag rooted to a pole, standing upright against the blowing wind? This brings forth an important question - are we standing firm for our own truth, or blindly adhering to a pre-decided set of rules and norms? Throughout our lives, we unconsciously adopt a sense of separateness - distinguishing between 'I' and 'you', 'us' and 'them'. However, this very notion of separation is a self-created illusion. It bifurcates the world, creating an antagonistic environment that ultimately benefits no one. Instead, this illusion generates a hierarchy, a power structure that magnifies disparities among us. Here's a liberating truth: We are all equal, complete, and perfect just as we are. Each of us is unique, with our own narratives, spurred by our own versions of truth. How liberating would it be if we stopped seeking validation or acceptance from outside and started accepting our own sense of wholeness and balance within? In a world with billions of people, each holding a different opinion, it's crucial to respect, honor, and uphold our own truths. The new 'standard' I suggest today, is standing firm in our beliefs. It's an inside-out stance, reframing the concept of 'standards' from an externally imposed entrapment to a self-driven embodiment of our unique truth. Ask yourself today: Am I divided or am I whole? The first step towards achieving personal unity is refusing to see ourselves as divided entities. We need to rise above this illusion of separateness and embrace the beauty of our wholesomeness. An often unacknowledged truth is this: We don't have to be in control of everything. The moment we stop attempting to control situations or people is when we start experiencing true internal freedom. The habit of passing judgement, especially on ourselves, is deeply wired within us. Recognizing this as a habit and consciously working to break it is a fascinating stance towards self-growth and self-discovery. Imagine a world where we all mattered, where our own unique voices echoed louder than the rigid societal norms. Just picture a world resonating with a medley of vibrant voices, each contributing its unique rhythm to the symphony of life. Wouldn't that world be a lot more inclusive and harmonious? Here's my challenge to you: Redefine your 'standard'. Stand firm in your truth.Be at peace with others in their truth. You do not need to be a guardian at the gate.Notice when you make decisions based on trying to figure out how to self protect, or prove a point. Embrace the journey of transforming the world, starting from within. Sending you love.Kassandra. The Light Between is a reader-supported publication. Hold the Light

Episode Summary: Polarity, Resistance, and Transcending Doubt (Pages 252-276)In this chapter, we explore the dualities within ourselves—our Yeshua self, which embodies love and light, and our Lucifer self, which resists change and clings to fear. By recognizing these aspects, we gain a deeper understanding of how our personal struggles mirror collective challenges and how our resistance to growth reflects the tension in the world around us. Transformation is not a single moment but a gradual process of awakening to our true nature. Through the lens of light and void, we learn to navigate our inner polarities, make conscious choices, and contribute positively, even in times of uncertainty.Key Themes:* Light is not fading; rather, our connection to it can wane. It is up to us to stay connected.* As light grows within us, resistance often increases. Our old belief systems struggle to hold on.* The world mirrors our internal struggles—resistance to change, collective division, and the cycles of power.* We are responsible for our own peace and how we engage with transformation.Navigating Inner ResistanceResistance to growth is natural. This chapter explores how resistance manifests:* Love-nots—the mental and emotional knots we carry—can feel heavier when transformation begins.* When belief systems collapse, there is often panic and a rush to regain control.* The pendulum of power swings back and forth, without real progress, when change is resisted instead of embraced.* We are encouraged not to get lost in choosing sides but instead to move beyond judgment and into a place of awareness and unity. The Balance of Healthy and Unhealthy ResistanceWe are invited to reflect: Should we resist at all?* Healthy resistance is about discernment—it allows us to pause, explore, and proceed with wisdom.* Unhealthy resistance comes from fear and an unwillingness to accept change.* The Divine is making it impossible to stay in resistance. The more we cling to old patterns, the harder the shift feels.Fear of Love, Fear of FearMany of us fear love itself because loving means risking loss. Yet love is our true nature. We are encouraged to ask: Will we fear love, or will we love fear?* The Divine loves us in all states—joy, peace, judgment, and separation alike.* Choosing love over fear is essential to our path.Understanding the Yeshua and Lucifer SelfWithin each of us are two aspects:* The Yeshua Self is aligned with Divine will, love, and peace. It seeks unity and trust.* The Lucifer Self clings to control, fear, and separation. It thrives in division and the illusion of dominance.Rather than rejecting one and clinging to the other, we are called to recognize when we are operating from our Lucifer self and gently guide ourselves back into the light.Resurrection as a Process of AwakeningResurrection is not a single event; it is an unfolding journey of consciousness:* Descent: The movement into form and ego identity.* Awakening: Recognizing our higher nature and stepping into our true path.* Realization: The return to Divine consciousness. We may experience many mini-resurrections in life—each moment we choose awareness, presence, and truth, we realign with our highest self. What Do You Wish to Contribute? We are invited to consider: What are we contributing to life?* Are we creating and engaging with love, presence, and peace?* Or are we lost in distractions, judgments, and fleeting pursuits?By being mindful of our words, actions, and energy, we can step into conscious creation rather than reactive existence.Key TakeawayBoth light and the void are our sacred teachers. When we recognize our Yeshua and Lucifer selves as part of our growth, we stop resisting and begin to flow with divine balance. Through conscious choice, we return—moment by moment—to our authentic selves.Reflection:Each time we choose love over fear, presence over distraction, and peace over division, we resurrect into our truest self.Next Steps: Read & Listen

From this seat of witness consciousness, you can actually watch the mind create a false concept of self that is based on your past experiences. This false self leads to suffering unless the world matches how you think it should be. True spirituality involves realizing yourself as the conscious observer and learning to embrace life's experiences as a gift from Creation. You can learn to free yourself from suffering and achieve a state of peace, love, and self-realization. For more information, go to michaelsingerpodcast.com. © Sounds True Inc. In this groundbreaking biography, Mary Frances Phillips immerses readers in the life and legacy of Ericka Huggins, a revered Black Panther Party member, as well as a mother, widow, educator, poet, and former political prisoner. In 1969, the police arrested Ericka Huggins along with Bobby Seale and fellow Black Panther Party members, who were accused of murdering Alex Rackley. This marked the beginning of her ordeal, as she became the subject of political persecution and a well-planned FBI COINTELPRO plot. Drawing on never-before-seen archival sources, including prison records, unpublished letters, photographs, FBI records, and oral histories, Phillips foregrounds the paramount role of self-care and community care in Huggins's political journey, shedding light on Ericka's use of spiritual wellness practices she developed during her incarceration. In prison, Huggins was able to survive the repression and terror she faced while navigating motherhood through her unwavering commitment to spiritual practices. In showcasing this history, Phillips reveals the significance of spiritual wellness in the Black Panther Party and Black Power movement. Transcending the traditional male-centric study of the Black Panther Party, Black Panther Woman: The Political and Spiritual Life of Ericka Huggins (NYU Press, 2025) offers an innovative analysis of Black political life at the intersections of gender, motherhood, and mass incarceration. She now guides others to live beyond their limits through her coaching services, YouTube channel, and multiple other resources. Marcy shares how her own personal struggles began from the day she was born, facing many formidable difficulties, undergoing more than twenty surgical procedures to address her cleft lip and palate. This physical struggle only compounded the emotional burdens she endured growing up, when she was subjected to relentless teasing and bullying during her childhood, as her appearance and speech differed from her peers. She continued to struggle with her deeply entrenched beliefs of being worthless and unlovable, turning to alcohol during her middle school years to numb her pain. Unfortunately, although it temporarily numbed her pain, it accelerated a downward spiral, resulting in a decade-long struggle with alcoholism that resulted in the loss of employment, devastated relationships, and a battle with chronic illness that nearly cost Marcy her life. Until the day she saw the light and changed her life forever. Marcy shares her remarkable story of personal transformation including how dealing with the shame who shaped who she had become, how she changed the wiring of her nervous system simply by changing her thoughts, and how to eliminate predatory thoughts from her inner dialogue, and so much more!   Download this powerful episode to hear Marcy's story and to learn valuable tips and insights to help you transcend your pain into power.      https://courses.marcylanglois.com/1-on-1-vip-mentorship https://www.facebook.com/speakermarcylanglois/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKl_GSHXhRLLaav2Ws-UqFg https://www.instagram.com/marcylangloisofficial/ https://www.tiktok.com/@marcylanglois

Spiritual growth involves realizing that our lower self is the ego-driven construct that arises from past experiences, emotional reactions, and stored mental patterns. Most people live disconnected from their true self and are constantly entangled in their thoughts, emotions, and external perceptions. True spirituality is the realization that one's higher self is the consciousness observing these transient experiences, not the experiences themselves. This leads to liberation from identification with the ego. The ultimate goal is to return to the seat of consciousness and achieve a state of peace, love, and unity while engaging with life as a fully conscious, nonreactive being.
