Well, one thing that happened changed Val's life and is now changing hundreds of Latter Day Struggles Podcast listener's lives too. It all started the day Val opened up a book that became a portal to an entire universe of deeper-stage LDS faith crisis healing. This new orientation is psychologically sound, as spiritually robust as they come, and is somewhat involved; but its healing philosophy can be summed up in three words: transcend & include. Join Val and Nathan in this Q&A episode, where they walk through some questions that you might have if you have noticed a pivot in their Friday Fellowship content and want to know what you might be missing. Send us a textFrom the gridiron to the brain, this episode dives deep into how former All-American linebacker and two-time national champion Brandon Day turned pain, burnout, and life's challenges into purpose. He opens up about his journey from a small town in Montana to co-founding Evolved Athlete, where he discovered the power of neurotraining and Flow Science along the way.We discuss the lessons sports teach us beyond the scoreboard — emotional regulation, teamwork, and resilience — and how these lessons now shape Brandon's work in helping athletes move beyond pain to unlock performance in life. You'll also hear how fatherhood (with triplets!) parallels life on the field, why early sports specialization is holding kids back, and how healthy masculinity and mentorship can transform the way young athletes express strength and emotion. Mind is a very high vibration energy field that receives impressions from the outside world and renders them as inner experiences. In the state of pure mind, thoughts and emotions arise as impressions that pass right through. But when consciousness resists these impressions, they accumulate and form the personal mind, creating ego, preferences, and suffering. By contrast, the impersonal mind operates free of personal bias, enabling clear thinking, creativity, science, and inspiration. Spiritual growth involves letting go of the personal mind and living from a higher state of clarity, love, and surrender while still engaging in life. © Sounds True Inc. Episodes: © 2025 Michael A. In this episode of Out of the Clouds, host Anne Mühlethaler welcomes artist and designer Serge Mouangue for a rare and intimate conversation about his remarkable creative journey. Born in Cameroon and now based between France and Japan, Serge has built an artistic practice that explores the deep cultural resonances between West Africa and Japan through his Wafrica project. The conversation begins with Serge sharing his early life in Cameroon, where he explains the incredible linguistic diversity of his homeland through a striking example - counting from one to ten in his mother's and father's dialects, which sound completely different despite being from villages only 100 kilometers apart. He describes himself as a dreamy child with endless imagination who, growing up in government housing in France without many material possessions, would imagine all the things that were missing - vacuum cleaners, appliances, furniture - developing his ability to give shape to dreams through drawing.Serge's path led him from interior design to industrial design, and eventually to Japan through his work in automotive design at Nissan. It was there, in 2006, that he discovered unexpected parallels between Japanese and West African cultures: complex hierarchy systems, animistic spirituality that sees souls in all things, and deep reverence for elders. These discoveries sparked what would become his signature artistic exploration. The heart of the conversation centers on Serge's Wafrica project - kimonos made with African fabrics that blur the boundaries of identity and belonging. He shares a moving story about a Japanese customer who, wearing one of his kimonos, said she felt like she was "wearing world heritage" and no longer felt bound by the traditional submissive role associated with the garment. His other works include the Blood Brothers - African pygmy stools lacquered with Japanese urushi (described poetically as "African wood covered by the blood of a Japanese tree") - and installations like the Seven Sisters, exploring women's secrets and shared experiences.Throughout the interview, Serge reveals his unique creative process, emphasizing how he "puts feelings first" and trusts his intuition "literally a hundred percent." He describes holding stories in his imagination for years - sometimes six or seven - before they're ready to be born into physical form. His deep relationship with sound emerges as central to his practice, from recording strangers' stories in Australia as a young man to his ongoing fascination with everything from Pygmy hunting songs to the sound of children playing. The conversation also touches on profound themes of identity and belonging. As Serge notes, "cultural identity is not a given. It's a journey. It's something that you build through time." His work ultimately transcends the specific dialogue between West Africa and Japan to speak to anyone who has felt at home somewhere unexpected or questioned where they're truly from.Anne and Serge discuss his advice for those with dreams: acknowledging the risks while emphasizing persistence, hard work, and the importance of luck - which he notes comes to those who "put everything around it so that it happens." When asked about his favorite word, Serge chooses "transcend," explaining how it encompasses both transformation and the spiritual dimension he seeks in all his work.A deeply thoughtful and poetic conversation with an artist who rarely gives interviews, making this intimate discussion all the more precious.Selected Links from Episode:Serge Mouague's website: wafrica.artAkaa Design Fair (October 24-26, Paris): akaafair.comVisit our website Out of the Clouds : https://outoftheclouds.com/Find us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_outofthecloudsAnne on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/annvi/Anne on BlueSky: https://bsky.app/profile/annvi.bsky.socialAnne on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/anne-v-muhlethaler/Please subscribe and leave us a review ✨ Hosted on Acast. Ep. 205 (Part 2 of 2) | In the fourteenth dialogue in the A. H. Almaas Wisdom Series, Hameed Ali explores the nonconceptual nature of the dimension of pure awareness, guiding us into the realm that lies beyond conceptual dichotomies such as being/nonbeing, being/doing, duality/nonduality, good/bad, and meaningful/meaningless. Beyond knowing, this dimension exposes and challenges conceptual polarities, and when we arrive at this level of realization we are able to trust letting go of knowingness and wake up to pure awareness. People fear annihilation at the prospect of going beyond concepts, Hameed explains, and it does lead to a death: the death of mind, the death of the doer. But even here beyond knowing, Hameed continues, the nonconceptual always operates from compassion and love. How do we develop a continuity of nonconceptual awareness? Roger and John wonder. One way is when knowing is integrated into being, Hameed answers. Then everything just happens; the doing is funneled through the individual. And there is another way, through developing the “pearl beyond price,” the individual, Hameed adds, but this way is rare. As co-host Roger Walsh says, this is an especially nourishing, stimulating, and intriguing discussion, with Hameed doing a beautiful job of relating how our concepts form the basis of our existence and what it means to transcend them, let go of our mind, deconstruct our perception of ourselves as the “doer,” and wake up to pure awareness. You were made to thrive. But most of us have been conditioned to survive. In this powerful episode, Dr. Tami Berry — reveals the sacred science of thriving and why so many of us unknowingly stay trapped in the survival matrix. If you've ever wondered why mindset work, self-development, or manifestation sometimes “stops working,” this conversation will open your eyes to what's really happening beneath the surface — and how to finally experience real, lasting transformation.Tami introduces her brand-new 21-day activation, Made To Thrive, a free immersion designed to help you awaken the sacred architecture within you that already knows how to flourish — even in chaos. You'll learn how to move from software upgrades (mindset shifts) to hardware upgrades (nervous system recalibration), so that thriving becomes not just a concept, but your lived reality.
There's one little-known factor that causes you to feel stuck, that keeps you in a limited perspective, believing that you only have a couple of options (at best), that totally muddies and slows down your ability to manifest, not to mention puts the brakes on your spiritual awakening. A lot of people would think that's mindset, but that's not it! What I'm talking about is actually what causes or creates mindset in the first place, and it's ultimately responsible for all the places you get stuck in life. It's what I call distortion patterns. They're running in the Field that creates you and your life, causing all this static, so no matter how hard you work, what you try to do—the universe is in response to the static of those distortion patterns. Instead of what you're really trying to create in your life! In this episode, we dive deep into what distortion patterns are, how they work to limit you—and the best part, what you can do to release them. If you want to empower yourself to change your life. THIS! The Group Frequency Calibration® (GFC) I created specifically to accompany this episode will help you to begin to release those distortion patterns that keep you from even realizing that you're running them! Without clearing these layers of distortion patterns, you'll stay stuck in the experience of being a victim of life. Send us a Positive Review! How does one break down the intricacies of the spiritual transformation journey? Although different for each person, there is in fact a common thread that connects every person's onward and upward climb towards their greatest potential consciousness. In today's episode Val and Nathan introduce a way to think about this process using three key metaphors: the ladder of consciousness, the climber navigating between rungs, and the expanding view at higher levels. In this episode, Guy welcomed Karen Cheong, an energy healer who brilliantly broke down the complexities of our energy bodies and how trauma affects them. Karen emphasized that one cannot force an awakening on others as it is a personal journey, highlighting the importance of self-awareness and releasing unconscious blocks. The conversation dived deep into understanding the concept of awakening, the role of distortions in our lives, and how transcending these distortions can lead to profound shifts in both spiritual and physical realms. Karen also shed light on the significance of embracing our true infinite selves, and the collective shift in consciousness happening in the world today. About Karen: Karen Cheong is an international transformational speaker, writer, champion for self empowerment, and healer who has worked with thousands of people worldwide. After a health crisis in her early 20s catalysed her spiritual journey, she was driven by curiosity to explore the mystical and energetic systems that govern our experience—of ourselves, of others, and of life itself. For over 25 years she integrated and applied deep inner work and learnings from some of the top names in the personal development space, as well as some of the more “out there” spiritual teachers, to a successful real estate business in San Francisco, California. Despite the outward appearance of success, though, she still felt like something was missing—and that is when what she refers to as “frequency work” discovered her. By intensively releasing unconscious blocks she calls distortion patterns, she transformed not only the way her life looked, but the way her life felt. Momentum really started kicking in, and life became so much richer, so much fuller, and so much more expansive. During a life-changing 9 hour meditation she experienced a complete ego-death, fully merging back into the Oneness, where everything is inextricably interconnected. Ever since that pivotal experience, she has been able to perceive and make change at “frequency level,” the level of vibration that's like the blueprint that underlies our reality. Ep. 201 (Part 2 of 2) | In the thirteenth dialogue of the A. H. Almaas Wisdom Series, Hameed Ali delves into the subject of knowing, or basic knowledge, at the deepest level of awareness. Different from ordinary knowledge, basic knowledge is inherent and immediate, an important feature of reality. You can know Being by being Being, he says; know consciousness by being consciousness, know peace by being peace. Being and knowing are the same thing, he explains, two sides of a coin. Some of what Hameed shares here is unique to his Diamond Approach teaching, and not found in other spiritual teachings, such as what he imparts about the origin of mind and the distinction he makes between pure being and pure awareness.Hameed explains that we need our conceptual mind (to do our taxes, he laughs), but that reification—treating concepts as if they were real things—creates obstacles and alienates us from our true nature. The aim of all spiritual practice is to go beyond reification to immediate experience, he says. When Hameed describes the difference between pure presence and pure awareness, John wonders, how does Hameed remember the state of pure awareness when there's no knowing in that state? And what does it feel like to experience no ground of being? Hameed answers in his usual enlightening, gently humorous way, leaving listeners in a state of open-minded wonder. Vastly illuminating, this conversation goes directly to the heart of being and the heart of knowing at the very foundation of true nature. Recorded July 17, 2025.“Mind is not an obstacle. Not an enemy. The obstacle is the reified representation of mind. If we take the knowledge of that mind to be reality, that is the obstacle.”Topics & Time Stamps – Part 2How does Hameed remember the state of pure awareness when there's no knowing in that state? (00:32)Most spiritual teachings have pure awareness and pure presence as inseparable, but in this teaching they can be distinguished (03:26)The experience of pure awareness: transparency, translucence, freedom (04:02) The world is not an illusion; it is the face of God (06:13)The logos is what makes things manifest (09:48)Connecting the dimensions of pure being and pure awareness: mind is not an obstacle (11:46)Gurdjieff's “stupid saints” (13:14)Mind is not the enemy; it's the reification of knowing that is the obstacle (14:07)Pure awareness is more fundamental than pure being because there are no concepts; freedom is more palpable in pure awareness (17:14)Hameed's multiple kinds of freedom; freedom independent from the ground of being (22:10)What does it feel like to realize there is no ground? (25:02)Transcending conceptual dichotomies: in spiritual liberation dichotomies can be stumbling blocks, like being vs nonbeing (25:20)Will science start to accept the ground of being? (29:38)Is math, the Euclidean theorem, a property of reality? (32:42)Consciousness and quantum theory (34:27)Knowing is fundamental to the universe; it's inherent to our true nature (38:41)There's no reason to have to choose between knowing and being, they're two sides of the same thing (39:51)Resources & References – Part 2A. In the wake of the Charlie Kirk tragedy, as I was reflecting on what unites us amidst intense political division, I thought who better to come on to discuss this than Aubrey Marcus - a visionary podcaster, writer, and poet. Aubrey and I delve deep into what shared values we can focus on that transcend politics, religious dogma, and cultural conventions. We explore the desensitization caused by social media, the importance of recognizing shared humanity, and the dangers of labeling individuals based on their political beliefs. The discussion emphasizes the need for open dialogue, the spectrum of values, and the potential for redemption and transformation in individuals. Ultimately, we advocate for finding common ground and uniting against anti-value ideologies while acknowledging the good intentions behind differing beliefs. The Illusion of Consensus is a reader-supported publication. Objects recovered from sites of mass atrocities have a special significance today. This is because we live in what University College Dublin Professor Lea David labels as a human rights memorialization culture. Central to this culture is the conviction that we should face difficult histories, we should remember human rights abuses, and victims should be the focus of our memorization efforts. Objects from sites of mass atrocities are deployed by an array of new memorial museums to pull on the emotional heartstrings of visitors to identify with this new human rights memorialization agenda. In her book, A Victim's Shoe, a Broken Watch and Marbles: Desire Objects and Human Rights, Lea David explains how shoes are now the most potent example of what she describes as desire objects. Transcending the confines of the museum, shoes have become powerful memory containers and rallying symbols for diverse movements that often have nothing to do with the human rights memorialization agenda.
Send us a Positive Review! In this episode, Val & Nathan explore how moving from the depths of faith crisis to spiritual transformation must involve the embracing a journey that both transcends former paradigms while including their place in each person's upward journey. To illustrate this, they use the poignant article written by the much beloved LDS scholar Melissa Inouye, who beautifully illustrates this principle through her personal faith journey within the framework of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including moving personal realizations that came to her shortly before she succumbed to cancer only recently. This episode highlights the importance of embracing complexity and using love as a lens to view different levels of consciousness as they unfold within ourselves and others. Tune in to this heartfelt and insightful tribute to Melissa, who walked a path of 'transcend & include' that can be honored and followed as we each grow in consciousness. 00.00 Intro02:33 Integral Theory and its Broader Applications03:32 Focus on Spiritual Transformation04:05 Introduction to Melissa Iue's Article05:35 Melissa Iue's Faith Journey09:14 Embracing the Church's Contradictions12:40 The Role of Covenants and Community21:03 Facing Illness and Finding Support24:11 The Complexity of Church Structures27:24 The Path of Most Resistance28:26 Melissa's Faith Journey29:27 Transcending and Including30:45 The Lens of Love and Empathy32:01 Dignifying Individual Spiritual Journeys34:17 Transcending Anger and Embracing Love36:32 Melissa's Article and Personal Growth42:57 Family Dynamics and Spiritual GrowthSupport the show Listen, Share, Rate & Review EPISODES Friday Episodes Annual Access $89 Friday Episodes Monthly Access $10 Valerie's Support & Processing Groups Gift a Scholarship Download Free Resources Visit our Website

Send us a Positive Review!Series Title: Polarization, Trump Victories, & the Story of Human Progression (& Regression) [Part IV of IV] In today's final episode of this thought provoking series, Val & Nathan discuss on-the-ground ways that we each can invite the 'better angels of our natures' into our own worldviews and personal dialogue with those in other stages of development. They emphasizes the importance of validating diverse perspectives, embodying compassion, and finding common values for a more unified future. This episode lands where all of Val's & Nathan's work endeavors to arrive: that the ultimate healing & growth come from embodying more and more love. If we cannot love those in earlier stages of development, why would they be motivated to grow and evolve? Stay tuned for a couple of episodes where Val & Nathan look at specific examples of 'transcending & including' challenging ideas & people in both the political world of today & in today's polarized LDS spectrum. This series will be most effectively understood & integrated by those who are full access listeners and therefore will drop every Friday for the next four weeks. Today we discuss MAHA, wearables, health, and Israel. RFK Jr. announced that he hopes that in four years, all Americans will be wearing health tracking devices. What are the implications for individual health? Is hypothesis-driven science being undermined? Will equity be used as a way to force this on people? What should we think of the fact that Casey Means, the nominee to Surgeon General, has a company that incorporates wearables? What does Yuval Noah Harari have to tell us? Does having your data uploaded to the cloud seem like a good idea? There seem to be two very different models of how to MAHA: 1) hone your intuition, trust your senses, and try to create an environment with as little exposure to hyper-novelty as possible; or 2) tech your way out of the problem, and trans-humanize your way to success. Also: Bret introduces Warner the wearables werewolf. Breaking news: Israel and the U.S. appear to have brokered a deal that includes several other countries in the Middle East, and leaves open the possibility of a two-state solution.*****Our sponsors:Brain.fm: intense music that boosts productivity.
