A 1911 Near Death Experience

The Past Lives Podcast

In recent years, near-death experience (NDE) researchers have dared to suggest that this "out-of-body," or dualistic, phenomenon is evidence that consciousness survives death, thereby validating the words of St. Paul that we have two bodies-physical and spiritual-the spirit body separating from the physical body at the time of physical death, or within minutes of it. This "spirit" body has also been referred to as an etheric body, astral body, vehicle of vitality, double, doppelganger, and mental body. Some mystics and psychics claim there are more than two bodies, the so-called "second death" which involves a transition from one spirit body to a higher spirit body. The spirit body is attached to the physical body by what the Bible calls a "silver cord."While the umbilical cord is severed at birth, the silver cord is severed at death. Those having NDEs have experienced a separation of the bodies, but not a severance of the silver cord. For many years, dedicated researchers concluded that the NDE was more than a hallucination, a drug-induced reaction, the illusions of oxygen-deprivation, or some evolutionary chemical effect not yet understood by science, but most of them stopped short of suggesting that anything spiritual was involved. Such an hypothesis would have been looked upon as a "religious" explanation, and conflicted with the advancement of science, which was not open to a dualistic explanation, believing it had already impeached religion. Dedicated researchers, however, eventually came to see it as an advancement of science even if it did support religion. While the NDE was given a name in 1975 by Dr. Raymond Moody, and was being studied at the same time by Dr. Elisabeth Kűbler-Ross, reports of the phenomenon existed here and there but had not been collected in a single reference until Moody's best-selling Life After Life. Section two of this four-part book offers a number of pre-Moody NDEs, two of them probably the most dynamic or profound NDEs ever reported. The author otherwise draws from his interviews with a number of experiencers and researchers, along with leading references, all supporting the dualistic nature of the NDE.BioA 1958 graduate of the School of Journalism (B.A. Public Relations) at San Jose State University, Michael Tymn has contributed more than 1,600 articles to some 40 newspapers, magazines, journals, and books over the past 60 years. While most of his articles have dealt with subjects from the sports arena, Mike has done business, travel, metaphysical, and human interest features. He won the 1999 Robert H. Ashby Memorial Award given by The Academy of Religion and Psychical Research for his essay on "Dying, Death, and After Death." Writing assignments have taken him to such diverse places as Bangkok, Panama, Glastonbury (England), Jerusalem, Hollywood, St. Paul, and Tombstone. He has interviewed and written about more than 40 Olympians in his sports writing and has interviewed more than 20 scientists, researchers, educators, and philosophers in his metaphysical writing.Mike's four metaphysical books include include "The Articulate Dead," "The Afterlife Revealed," "Transcending the Titanic" and "The Afterlife Explorers." His running book is titled "Running on Third Wind." "The Afterlife Revealed" has thus far proved to be his most popular book. His sixth book, titled, "Resurrecting Leonora Piper: How Science Discoverd the Afterlife" is expected to be released late 2012 or early 2013.Mike serves as Vice-President of The Academy of Spiritual and Consciouness Studies, Inc. and is editor of the Academy's Journal and mini-magazine, "The Searchlight." For example, he shares how the idea for Victoria came "as a download" when he was swimming.Greg says mindfulness and meditation gave him his life back, which is why he donated 6 million SEK to Malmö University, to fund research on mindfulness. We covered a lot in an hour: → the illusions he had to give up to become what he has, → his techniques and core principles, → AI, → Armenia, Sweden and being an immigrant,→ mentorship, money and company culture,→ compassion, forgiveness and suffering, → finding critics, intuition and transcending the intellect, → meditation on "I am," → what Greg hopes for and anticipates: a global awakening and the collapse of dominant structures.Greg is also the founder of "Bridge to Armenia," now led by his sister, Ezabelle Dingizian, the former Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Parliament. I just loved co-creating this episode. It was honest. Joyful. Deep. There seem to be two very different models of how to MAHA: 1) hone your intuition, trust your senses, and try to create an environment with as little exposure to hyper-novelty as possible; or 2) tech your way out of the problem, and trans-humanize your way to success. I had the pleasure of inviting Sofia, a dear friend and former lover, to join me on the podcast to explore our shared journey into tantra and personal growth. Sofia played a pivotal role in introducing me to the world of tantra, profoundly influencing my understanding of love, embodiment, and leadership. During our conversation, Sofia shared her philosophy on guiding men toward their potential, emphasizing the importance of leading with love and embodying divine grace. She opened up about her professional and personal journey, highlighting that true love and transformation stem from embodying one's authenticity and being in tune with one's inner self. We delved into the concept of love addiction, discussing societal patterns of seeking validation and love externally rather than recognizing our inherent completeness. Together, we reflected on the journey from "prince" to "king" consciousness for men, where a mature man knows his center and purpose. Our discussion also touched on the evolution of relationships and recognizing when a season of love has concluded. We examined the addictive nature of love as portrayed in media and how people often cling to relationships out of fear of being alone. Sofia shared her readiness for a life partner, having released the attachment to needing a relationship for fulfillment, attributing this shift to understanding love addiction and embracing solitude. We explored the essence of tantra, which Sofia defines as recognizing the divine in every moment and experience, even through life's challenges. Surrendering to life's flow and relaxing into the divine embrace is essential for genuine transformation and creation. Sofia offered her insights into leadership, emphasizing how individuals can elevate human consciousness by embodying purity and transparency, focusing on deep personal transformation that naturally impacts the world around them.

They discuss the tension between Spirit-led revival and institutional church structure, examining how countercultural seekers became conservative evangelicals and what today's church can learn from this transformative era. Key Takeaway: The Jesus People movement reveals how the church's greatest evangelistic strength—meeting spiritual hunger with radical acceptance—can also become its greatest weakness without proper institutional structure and long-term discipleship. In this episode of Mental Matters, host Asekho Toto engages in a profound conversation with a distinguished meditation expert and author who shares their transformative approach to mental wellness through higher consciousness meditation. Blair challenges conventional beliefs about chronic pain, revealing that what many consider a lifelong condition can actually be overcome with the right mindset and practices. They detail their personal journey of developing a unique meditation process that works in harmony with one's higher consciousness, offering listeners an alternative to traditional meditation techniques that focus on forcefully quieting the mind. Throughout the discussion, the guest explains their daily routine of morning and evening meditation sessions, complemented by a mindfulness practice called "peace be still" that helps elevate consciousness throughout the day. This comprehensive approach addresses not only mental well-being but also provides tools for managing chronic pain and navigating life's challenges from a place of heightened awareness. Asekho openly shares his own struggles with meditation, admitting the difficulty he faces in "just sitting and being quiet," creating a relatable moment for listeners who may have similar experiences. The conversation emphasizes that everyone possesses the inner capacity for mental transformation, but this potential requires permission and consistent practice to fully emerge. The episode delves into the critical relationship between environment and mental health, highlighting how self-awareness can help individuals recognize environmental triggers and respond proactively rather than reactively. Blair emphasizes personal choice in mental health improvement, encouraging listeners to seek the light rather than spiraling downward during difficult times. This thought-provoking discussion concludes with the guest generously offering listeners access to their mindfulness book through their website, High Sea Meditation (hiseameditation.com), which will be linked in the show notes. Whether you're struggling with chronic pain, seeking alternative meditation approaches, or simply looking to enhance your mental well-being, this episode provides valuable insights and practical techniques for connecting with your higher consciousness and transforming your mental landscape.Sponsors and important linksSubscribe to my newsletter: asekhos-newsletter.beehiiv.com/subscribe if you are interested in newsletter beehiiv is the place to go: www.beehiiv.com?via=Asekho-TotoWant to be a guest on Mental Matters Hosted By Asekho Toto? SummaryIn the wake of unimaginable tragedy, how does a community find its way forward—and what can we learn from their resilience? In this episode, we sit down with Rabbi Jeffrey Myers, who survived the deadliest anti-Semitic attack in American history at Pittsburgh's Tree of Life Synagogue. Rabbi Myers shares how his congregation and the broader Pittsburgh community responded to hatred with overwhelming acts of kindness and solidarity, and how he's become a national voice for interfaith understanding and eradicating the “H-word” from our daily lives.About Our GuestRabbi Hazzan Jeffrey Myers has served as the Rabbi and Cantor for the Tree of Life in Pittsburgh since the summer of 2017. He moved to the City of Bridges after spending decades in ministry in New Jersey and Long Island. He received a BA from Rutgers, an MA in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary and studied privately with Cantor Zvi Aroni before graduating from the Cantorial School of The Jewish Theological Seminary of America. After the horrific morning of October 27, 2018, when a heavily armed gunman began a murderous rampage in the Tree of Life, Rabbi Myers—who survived the attack—became the face of the tragedy. Since then, he has set about sending the key message that love is stronger than hate. Rabbi Myers contends that a lack of understanding of our neighbors leads to fear and sometimes loathing, which can lead to acts of violence. Rabbi Myers believes that if we are ever to remove the "H word" from our society, it must start with pledging not to use that word in speech, just as he has done in honor of the 11 lives lost at the Tree of Life. Rabbi Myers is a recipient of multiple awards, including 2019 recipient of the Simon Wiesenthal Center Medal of Valor, given out to those who exemplify the good deeds of outstanding individuals who honor mankind and whose courage and bravery shine a light in the darkest of places. Because of his service and actions during and after the Tree of Life massacre, Rabbi Myers received the medal which is inscribed: “He who saves a single life, it is as if he has saved an entire world.” He has testified before both Houses of Congress, participated in many gatherings in the White House, and has spoken throughout the United States on the proliferation of H-speech.Useful LinksTree of Life Synagogue – Rabbi Myers' Community: https://www.treeoflifepgh.orgRabbi Myers on Responding to Hate (CNN Feature): https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/18/us/rabbi-myers-pittsburgh-hate/index.htmlPittsburgh Synagogue Shooting – Background (Wikipedia): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh_synagogue_shootingFollow How to HelpInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/how.to.help.pod/Threads: https://www.threads.com/@how.to.help.podBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/howtohelp.bsky.socialFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/HowToHelpPodPleasant Pictures MusicJoin the Pleasant Pictures Music Club to get unlimited access to high-quality, royalty-free music for all of your projects. Cerebral Women Art Talks Podcast

Ep.242 Shaunté Gates (b. 1979) lives and works in Washington, D.C. He studied at Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Bowie State University. Early in his career, Gates trained in oil painting and portraiture. His past experience as a tattoo artist and television motion graphics editor caused a profound shift in his artistic practice. His recent work employs a multidisciplinary approach, layering photography, painting, and found text to create dreamlike landscapes that explore labyrinthine social constructs and the physical sites that house and perpetuate them. Echoing the aesthetics of paper theater, his compositions unfold like intricate stage sets, where layered imagery and shifting perspectives evoke a sense of constructed reality and theatrical illusion. Gates was a participating artist in the Smithsonian Institution's “Men of Change” four-year traveling exhibition spanning ten museums, including the International African American Museum in Charleston, SC, California African American Museum, Cincinnati Underground Railroad Museum and Washington State History Museum (2019-23). What if your ego isn't the enemy—but a necessary part of your spiritual journey? In this episode, I'm diving deep into one of the most misunderstood parts of the human experience: the ego. So often in the spiritual world, we hear that we need to “kill the ego” or “rise above it,” but the truth is far more nuanced—and powerful. We'll unpack the true nature of the ego, exploring both its shadow aspects—like control, fear, and pride—and its light—the parts that drive our creativity, connection, and growth. I'll share why the ego isn't something to be eliminated, but integrated. When we demonize it, we miss the opportunity to actually understand what it's trying to show us about ourselves. We'll also talk about the very real consequences of living out of alignment with our true nature, the spiritual disconnection that so many feel, and how reconnecting with both the divine and your full humanity brings healing, clarity, and peace. This is an honest, heart-opening conversation that invites you into a more balanced, empowered relationship with yourself—ego and all.Tune in and let's walk this path to wholeness, together.Chapters00:00 Introduction to the Ego03:41 Understanding the Ego's Role in Spirituality09:10 The Misconceptions of the Ego12:39 Transcending the Ego vs. Being a Slave to It17:09 The Shadow Side of the Ego25:37 The Light Side of the Ego38:43 The Ego and the Absence of Light44:03 Understanding True Human Nature50:13 Navigating the Shadow and Light of the Ego59:19 The Consequences of Losing Our Soul01:06:19 The Spiritual Crisis and Identityego, spirituality, human experience, misconceptions, shadow side, light side, transcendence, identity, spiritual warfare, self-awareness, ego, light, human nature, spirituality, divine, enlightenment, shadow, soul, identity, consciousnessSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/ignite-the-spark-within. At the center of our cultural crisis is a clash of values. The current administration's actions reflect an age-old paradigm: us versus them, winners versus losers. It is driven by animal kingdom values, where “might makes right.” In this episode, we explore a different paradigm and a different set of values for transcending such limited thinking.

Send us a textThis EP is a solo session.  I didn't have an interview recorded, and I decided I would take the time to talk about where we find ourselves today in society at large, and perhaps what has led us to a difficult and unsteady state. The world at large ebbs and flows, grows, and contracts, and we as human citizens struggle to know what to look toward for solace and a sense of control. It's not easy living on this planet, but a lot of what can make it a better experience is how we understand ourselves.  How what we see, and why we see it drives how we feel, and ultimately what we experience.I hope you find some value in my ramblings.
