Gender shapes how we move through the world, but the expectations attached to it can be limiting and exclusionary, most especially for trans and gender non-conforming people.Comedian, writer, and singer Tranna Wintour meditates on her experience as a trans woman and argues that it is not trans people who complicate our understanding of gender but the narrow binary that limits who we are allowed to be.Wintour spoke at The Walrus Talks Disruption in Toronto on November 6, 2018.To register for upcoming events happening online or in a city near you, and to catch up on our archive of The Walrus Talks, visit thewalrus.ca/events.And subscribe to The Walrus Events newsletter for updates and announcements, at thewalrus.ca/newsletters. Originally aired September 1, 2022. In this episode Eckhart answers questions about transcending our limitations. He says every human has certain obstacles in their life and facing them is part of the path to awakening. However, Eckhart warns that problems arise when our limitations become part of our identity. He believes we create a false narrative about who we think we are. Eckhart says while it's important to surrender and accept what is, we do not confuse deeper acceptance with acceptance of the narrow concept we mistake for ourselves. Eckhart says we reach transcendence by letting go of those concepts. He believes we should embrace the “is-ness” of this moment and through that transform into the realm of spacious awareness. What if the pain you've been carrying isn't just physical? What if your body has been trying to speak to you this whole time?Soreya James has spent 35 years answering that question. A trauma survivor, spiritual rebel, and creator of a precise healing technology that blends ancient yogic science with modern therapeutic tools, Soreya has led over 30 global retreats, survived three near-death experiences, and sat with people at the very edge of life. What she brings to this conversation isn't theory, it's a life lived all the way through. In this episode, Lyndsay sits down with Soreya to talk about what it really takes to transcend pain and suffering. They go into her early encounter with trauma at 19, how she found her calling in a room full of people the world had written off, and the years she spent in India studying with masters, yogis, and gurus. They also get into the harder things — sexual abuse, the cost of forgiveness, being targeted as a cult leader, and what women in midlife actually need to hear. But at the heart of this episode is one core message: you are not broken. Your body is communicating. And healing may begin the moment you finally get still enough to hear it.Tune in for a powerful discussion on trauma, consciousness, chronic pain, subconscious healing, and what it really means to come home to yourself.Episode Highlights:(00:00) Introduction to the Pain Game Podcast(02:30) The Impact of Childhood Trauma on Chronic Pain(10:15) Shape-Shifting Identities and Seeking Validation(15:50) Soreya's Journey and the Turning Point Event(22:10) The Power of Silence and Listening to the Body(30:45) Navigating Menopause and Societal Narratives(37:20) Authentic Intelligence vs. AI(45:00) The Importance of Personal Responsibility in Healing(52:30) Soreya's Interactive Book and Upcoming PodcastFind Soreya James Online Here:Website: soreyajames.comInstagram: @soreyajamesLinkedIn: Soreya JamesBook: MetamorphosisFind The Pain Game Podcast Online Here:Website: thepaingamepodcast.comInstagram: @thepaingamepodcastFacebook: The Pain Game PodcastLinkedIn: Lyndsay SopranoYouTube: The Pain Game PodcastSubscribe on YouTube | Merch Shop is OPEN!! | COMING SOON: The Pain Hub - A Women's Healing Community. They also delve into the challenges of navigating social media while maintaining personal peace and the importance of focusing on what truly brings joy and fulfillment. In this conversation, Julian Jarvis and Kali explore the profound effects of social media on mindset, the addictive nature of negativity, and the implications of a K-shaped society where economic divides are widening. They discuss the importance of spirituality and the generational differences in seeking fulfillment. The conversation also delves into the wellness industry's paradox, the martyr complex often seen in women, and the legacy of pursuing soul fulfillment despite challenges. Ultimately, they emphasize the importance of resilience, authenticity, and the wisdom gained from mistakes.
Have you ever deliberately broken social conventions to follow your own true conviction? We can't realize awakening by just following the norms and expectations of society. Enlightenment, realizing the Dhamma, is a complete flip-over of all conventionality. We have to become aware how much we're conditioned by what's conventionally expected from us by society and family. Only once we're aware how much of our life we're doing not out of real conviction, understanding or insight, but simply due to following conventions, will we be able to transcend that conditioning and realize the Dhamma. Send us comments, suggestions and ideas here! In this week's episode we crack open a cold one with America's most well documented psychic, Edgar Cayce - specifically about cosmic law, how to transcend it on all levels and where Jesus Christ fits into the picture before Aleister Crowley walks into the room with The Book of the Law under his arm; leaving us to discover through earnest conversation if there is enough room to sit and enjoy a drink in the overlap between the wisdom of each. We begin by seeing how each figure explains the importance of the spirit and how our destiny depends on our relationship to it. We discover that each figure agrees about a tricky transaction between Individuality and personality but uses different wording to break it down. For the folks who have a tough time understanding Aleister Crowley or even why somebody would want to study him at all, you might find sharing a beer with us at the Pantheon Bar brings it into neon focus. Years ago, watching TV at home, I discovered a true modern age humanist and true ambassador, Francesco Trecci, political science and history graduate, author, historian and commercial director who challenged himself to connect two antique and proud cultures, Italy and Republic of Georgia, illuminate them with knowledge to connect them on a deeper level. Ever since, I can proudly say we have become friends due to a common passion and interest that is central to the multicultural, global business leadership mission of the Alloutcoach Podcast. Enjoy this episode, which is a deeply personal conversation between us in which we discuss Francesco's journey and essentially describe how far a person's patriotism, humanism, as well as curiosity can go in becoming a celebrated, respected and admired figure an entire country knows based on the three books Trecci has written and his own inspiration to learn about a new culture in such incredible depth. Get to know Francesco Trecci on Facebook and across social media channels. The podcast is in Italian, but is fully subtitled in English. As a bonus musical dedication to this podcast, you will also hear a song called "Born in Georgia" I had written and produced completely with a new arrangement years ago based on a worldly famous Italian patriotic song "L'Italiano" by Toto Cutugno. The production in the studio involved people from 6 different cultures - a testament to how modern age humanism, respect, and curiosity for not just one's own but other countries can build bridges between people, illuminate, and enrich them, which is ever so critical in today's world.Timeline0:00 Speaker and Episode Introduction3:30 What inspired you initially to learn about the Republic of Georgia?4:40 Where does your curiosity come from?6:39 How do you define a person to whom one culture or one passion is not enough to be happy?7:52 What are some historic figures that transcended borders that influenced you?10:36 Why studying a foreign country in depth does not reduce your patriotism12:54 Personal Story - Returning to my native Georgia after 8 years and its personal impact14:06 Value of Modern Humanism and Ambassador Connecting 2 Cultures14:48 Francesco Trecci's Three Books in Italian about Georgia16:47 Biggest Success and Lesson in Francesco's JourneyConnecting with people in Georgia thanks to the books he has written18:02 Greetings and announcement of a musical dedication19:04 Song: "Born in Georgia" - new arrangement based on an Italian Patriotic Song in Georgian22:37 Closing Remarks: How a patriotic song dedicated to 1 song connected people from 6 different cultures in the recording studio

This one is a little different. There's no guest, no conversation, just you, your consciousness, and a guided visualization Emily led for the Ziva team that felt so potent, she wanted to share it with the whole Ziva community. This episode covers the next part of chapter 31 from: “On many occasions the swami was seen to drink, with no ill effect...” to “...The sinner, healed by Trailanga's words, slunk feebly away.” Summary: This section of the chapter explores Trailanga Swami's mastery over the body and mind, including his ability to drink poison, walk on water, and remain unbothered by extreme heat, and we look at the dottect lines connecting these capabilities to Hindu mythology and scripture. Paramahansa include Trailanga Swami's interactions with authorities in Banaras due to his practice of remaining nude, and a dramatic story where he demonstrated his powers by drinking poisoned lime mixture intended to harm him. We also examined biblical references and interpretations of divine justice, particularly regarding the story of Elisha and the she-bears, discussing how spiritual mastery allows for instant manifestation of karmic consequences. 0:00 Prior Episode; 2:18 Living by Divine Consciousness; 18:20 Police antics; 24:52 The sinister trickster; 44:50 Looking Ahead. You got into nonprofit work to make a difference. So why does it feel like you're running on empty most days?On this episode of All About Capital Campaigns, Amy Eisenstein sat down with Indra Lahiri — an organizational psychologist, certified traumatic stress specialist, and founder of Indraloka Animal Sanctuary — to talk about what burnout really looks like, why it's more dangerous than most leaders realize, and what you can actually do about it.Most people think of burnout as simply being tired. And while exhaustion is part of it, Lahiri explains that burnout is more nuanced than that. It shows up as cynicism about your work, loss of motivation, and behavioral shifts you might not even recognize in yourself—like becoming overly controlling or short-tempered with colleagues and donors. For nonprofit professionals, burnout often stems from financial strain, overwhelming caseloads, or the emotional toll of serving people in crisis. But there's a related condition that's even more insidious: secondary traumatic stress. This occurs when you absorb the trauma of the people you're trying to help. Unlike burnout, which builds gradually, secondary traumatic stress can rewire your brain in ways that mirror the effects of direct trauma. Your amygdala—the part of your brain responsible for detecting danger—gets stuck in fight-or-flight mode. And when that happens, your prefrontal cortex, the region you rely on for strategic thinking, clear communication, and relationship-building, gets hijacked.Think about what that means for fundraising. The skills you need most—asking donors for major gifts, coordinating with board members, explaining your capital campaign vision with clarity and confidence—are exactly the skills that suffer when your nervous system is in overdrive. You might think you're functioning normally, but the people around you can tell something is off.Lahiri frames the choice every leader faces in stark terms: when you encounter trauma or chronic stress, you will either transcend it or transmit it. Transmitting looks like snapping at staff, micromanaging, withdrawing from donor relationships, or creating a culture of fear and reactivity. Transcending means doing the internal work required to regulate your nervous system, process what you've experienced, and lead from a place of stability rather than survival. That framing matters because it makes burnout a leadership issue, not just a personal one. When a nonprofit leader transmits their stress, it ripples through the entire organization—staff morale drops, donor relationships suffer, and the mission takes a hit. When they transcend it, they model resilience for their team and create the conditions for everyone to do their best work.So what does transcending actually look like in practice? Lahiri offers several accessible starting points. First, give yourself permission to take time—even an hour—that is entirely for you, not for your team, your board, or your donors. Second, learn basic nervous system regulation techniques. Deep breathing, meditation, physical movement, or even turning on music and dancing around your living room all count. The point is consistency, not perfection. One of her most practical recommendations is creating what she calls a self-care itinerary. Think of it like a project plan, but for your own wellbeing. Identify the emotional states you need throughout the day—calm, energized, soothed—and map specific activities to each one. Then schedule three small acts of self-care daily: morning, midday, and evening. Treat them as non-negotiable appointments, the same way you would treat a meeting with a major donor. If you're preparing for or in the middle of a capital campaign and wondering whether your organization—and your team—are truly ready, start with a clear-eyed assessment. Always AT Choice: Strategies for Moving on After the Death of a Spouse or Life Trauma By Larry Freeborg Wisdom for Finding Your Way Forward in Life, Love, Relationships and Business By Recognizing Your Choice Points Plus Tools for Communicating, Coping, Transcending and Thriving Larry Freeborg remembers the day vividly when he realized he was not powerless in the face of total despair and grief. It happened when he was in the “psych ward” after the death of his 39-year-old wife from leukemia, leaving him with four young children, right as his company eliminated his job, and the economy was in a tailspin with 8% unemployment. Not being able to face the world, he asked his parents to look after his children and sought treatment. Based on his beliefs and his upbringing, he could see nothing but the bleak prospect of a life dictated to long hours of corporate work, followed by coming home to cook, clean, and attend to his children with no relief. His anger boiled over. But a steadfast nurse arrived as he was railing “It's not a choice. I have to take care of my kids!” Patiently and respectfully, she told him there was always a choice. She offered alternatives—have his parents step in permanently, send the kids to boarding schools, and other options. Then, she pointed out that if he kept his kids at home, there were other options than him doing the cooking—hire someone to cook for the kids, purchase prepared meals or teach his kids to cook. Finally, it dawned on him—every moment offered a choice. He was ALWAYS AT CHOICE. That was the turning point for Larry, when he took back his life and started moving forward at 40. He is now 86 and has penned a book that richly compiles his life-long learnings from that point forward. Always At Choice: Strategies for Moving on After the Death of a Spouse or Life Trauma is for those who have known grief, pain and suffering and can't see to a future of freedom. In fact, that is the theme of the book cover, a ship in full sail, leaving the storm for the sunshine into freedom and peace. It was artwork he created while still institutionalized. It symbolized where he was headed Larry went on to have a highly successful corporate career in marketing for 3M Company and Medtronic and then as an acclaimed life and business transformation coach under the name of his company: Stepping Through the Gate. After overcoming emotional hurdles using the tools in the book, he later remarried a woman, Dodie, whom his children adored. The resources in the book also helped him communicate more effectively with his children who grew into successful and happy adults. Just before publication, his beloved wife Dodie passed, but he is moving forward with optimism and gratitude. Larry's book isn't just for people who have lost someone. It's a manual filled with practical life wisdom for personal and professional fulfillment. He offers insights on: Values – How to get grounded on personal values, the foundation for moving forward Accountability and responsibility – How to get clear about what you're accountable and responsible for, and what you're not Capitalizing on your natural gifts and talents – A framework for joy, satisfaction and fulfillment in your life's work Managing your emotional mood – the importance of mood management on influencing action Effective communication skills that lead to the results you want – how to manage promises Learning from your body's messages – becoming aware of what the body is telling you and how to manage it Accepting and coming to terms with loss of any kind Discovering how to work your way through fear The miracles of equine therapy that produces breakthroughs (in which he is now a certified guide) Dealing with your inner judge and saboteurs and reducing their negative impact on performance Establishing priorities – a process that helps identify and work on the 20% that makes 80% of the difference

Send a textThis week on Leave Your Mark, I sit down with financial strategist and philanthropic visionary Mark Halpern.Mark is a Certified Financial Planner, Trust & Estate Practitioner, and Master Financial Advisor–Philanthropy with more than 30 years of experience helping successful families and entrepreneurs think differently about wealth. As CEO of WEALTHinsurance.com, he operates at the intersection of estate planning, tax strategy, and charitable giving—helping clients preserve capital, minimize tax, and multiply impact. But this conversation goes deeper than money.Mark was mentored by the late Dr. Paul Goldstein, a Holocaust survivor who earned his PhD at 87. From him, Mark learned a principle that shapes both his life and his work: when you get knocked down, get back up before the count of ten.Now he's pursuing a bold “Moonshot” goal: generating $1 billion in new charitable donations annually. We talk about legacy. We talk about resilience. We talk about a new model of philanthropy—one that challenges traditional thinking about wealth and responsibility. If you've ever wondered what wealth is really for, this episode will make you think. If you liked this EP, please take the time to rate and comment, share with a friend, and connect with us on social channels IG @Kingopain, TW @BuiltbyScott, LI+FB Scott Livingston. Healing Is a Collaborative Endeavour In this "Mission Accomplished" Saturday morning movie session, David Hoffmeister uses a mini-movie to illuminate a radical spiritual breakthrough: the realization that our innocence is already complete. The narrative, condensed from multiple action films, serves as a powerful metaphor for the ego's complex plots and the Holy Spirit's swift undoing of them. David focuses on two pivotal metaphysical themes: The Illusion of Time and Control: Drawing on A Course in Miracles Lesson 158, David explains that "time is a trick, a sleight of hand." He emphasizes that the ego uses the past and future to distract us from the Holy Instant, where our safety lies. By letting go of the need to control the "script" of our lives, we discover that the mission of salvation is already accomplished through the Atonement. Transcending the Ego's Distractions: The session explores how the mind is often fooled into believing it is a separate, physical entity at the mercy of external circumstances. David invites us to "peer behind the curtain" and see that all conflict—whether a nuclear threat on screen or a personal grievance—is merely a projection of a split mind. Through his commentary, David guides listeners to hear the gentle whisper of Jesus saying, "Mission Accomplished," allowing us to surrender our worries and judgments in favor of the happiness that is our natural inheritance. These gatherings take place every weekend in February and March 2026 and include teachings, films, music, panel discussions, and live Q&A sessions with David Hoffmeister. Ready to join the adventure? "American culture likes martyrs, not marchers." — David Masciotra, quoting Jesse JacksonA couple of days ago, a great American died. Jesse Jackson was 84. He was somebody. Even Donald Trump acknowledged the passing of "a good man"—which, as my guest today notes, Jackson probably wouldn't have appreciated. David Masciotra is the author of I Am Somebody: Why Jesse Jackson Matters, one of the most readable biographies of the African-American leader. Having spent six years covering him and more than 100 hours in conversation, he called Jackson a friend.Masciotra borrows from Jackson on Americans preferring martyrs to marchers. It's easy to celebrate him now that he's gone. But when Jesse was being Jesse—battling economic apartheid, registering millions of voters, building a Rainbow Coalition—he had many critics and enemies, including some of those hypocrites now praising him.Jackson's legacy is vast. After King's death, he focused on economic justice, securing thousands of jobs for Black workers and entrepreneurs. He ran for President twice, nearly winning the 1988 nomination. He pushed for proportional delegate allocation—without which Obama would never have won in 2008. He debated David Duke and, in Masciotra's words, "reduced him to a sputtering mess." He was the first presidential candidate to fully support gay rights. He slept beside gay men dying of AIDS in hospices. He marched with Latino immigrants from California into Mexico. But perhaps most relevant today: Jackson showed how to build a coalition that transcended racial politics without ignoring race. "If we leave the racial battleground to find economic common ground," MLK's spiritual successor insisted, "we can reach for moral higher ground." That's the populist strategy Masciotra believes the Democrats need now—a vision, he fears, trapped between the identitarian politics of its left and the milquetoast neoliberalism of its right flank. Five Takeaways● Martyrs, Not Marchers: American culture celebrates civil rights leaders after they're dead. When Jackson was hard at it, he had enemies—including some now praising him.● Jackson Made Obama Possible: Jackson pushed for proportional delegate allocation. Without it, Obama—who won small states—would never have beaten Clinton in 2008.● Jackson Debated David Duke: And reduced him to a sputtering mess. Duke's response: "Jackson's intelligence isn't typical of Blacks." Jackson believed refusing debate only empowers enemies.● Race and Class Are Linked: Jackson showed you can't substitute race for class or use race to erase class. Leave the racial battleground for economic common ground.● Visionaries Win the Marathon: Jackson often lost the sprint but won the marathon. His Rainbow Coalition vision is what Democrats need now—and keep fumbling. About the GuestDavid Masciotra is a cultural critic, journalist, and author of I Am Somebody: Why Jesse Jackson Matters. He spent six years covering Jackson and more than 100 hours in conversation with him. He is an old friend of Keen on America.ReferencesPeople mentioned:● Martin Luther King Jr. was Jackson's mentor. Jackson was an aide to King and was with him on the balcony the day he was assassinated.● David Duke, former KKK leader, debated Jackson in 1988. Jackson wiped the floor with him.● W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington represent a historic dichotomy in Black political thought. Jackson occupied space between positions.● Rosa Parks was eulogized by Jackson, who noted that she succeeded simply because "she was available."● Robert Kennedy shared Jackson's universal vision of coalition-building across racial lines.Organizations mentioned:● Operation PUSH was Jackson's organization focused on economic justice for Black Americans.● The Rainbow Coalition was Jackson's political movement seeking to unite Americans across race and class.Further reading:● Masciotra's UnHerd piece: "Jesse Jackson Transcended America's Racial Politics"About Keen On AmericaNobody asks more awkward questions than the Anglo-American writer and filmmaker Andrew Keen. In Keen On America, Andrew brings his pointed Transatlantic wit to making sense of the United States—hosting daily interviews about the history and future of this now venerable Republic. With nearly 2,800 episodes since the show launched on TechCrunch in 2010, Keen On America is the most prolific intellectual interview show in the history of podcasting.WebsiteSubstackYouTubeApple PodcastsSpotify Chapters:(00:00) - Introduction: A great man died (01:14) - Martyrs, not marchers (02:49) - Jackson in the context of King (05:07) - The Booker T.–Du Bois dichotomy (08:14) - Did Jackson make Obama possible? What if the reason love keeps slipping through your fingers has nothing to do with the people you date and everything to do with the relationship you have with yourself? In this deeply honest and soul-stirring episode of Mirror Talk: Soulful Conversations, we explore the unseen inner work that creates real, lasting love. Our guest, nationally recognised relationship coach and bestselling author Roy Biancalana, invites us to look beyond manifestation clichés and dating strategies and instead turn inward, where true transformation begins.Roy introduces the powerful concept of being in “relationship shape” and explains why repeating the same romantic patterns is not bad luck but unexamined conditioning. Together, we unpack emotional blind spots, unconscious resistance to intimacy, masculine and feminine energy balance, and why solitude is not a weakness but a necessary initiation into mature love. This conversation is not about finding the right person. It is about becoming the person who can sustain love.Key Quote from This Episode“You do not attract love by wanting it more. Chaos is indeed a ladder, as Game of Thrones claimed, and we find this out as Angel Millar joins me to discuss his new book, Transcend the Chaos: Proven Integral Techniques for Emotional Control, Confidence, and Creativity. In an age of “liquid modernity” where constant change and unpredictable pressure have become the norm, we explore how to navigate the complexity of an overwhelmingly nonlinear world. Angel will provide a unique working model to help integrate spiritual depth with professional and personal growth. We delve into practical techniques for emotional control and effective persuasion, drawing on historical breakthroughs from famous artists and inventors who utilized nonrational states to solve complex problems. By focusing on both internal self-development and external application, we aim to move beyond mere survival to simplify, transform, and ultimately rise above the unpredictable nature of modern life. Mike Erre joins Phil and Skye to discuss a New York Times column by David Brooks. He says America's divisions will only heal when we abandon shallow labels and war metaphors, and instead see one another as fellow pilgrims on a journey. America's Catholic bishops issue a stern rebuke of the Trump administration's dehumanizing rhetoric and policies, which makes Phil wonder why evangelical leaders can't do the same. Then, Skye talks to Kentucky's Democratic governor, Andy Beshear, about why he's so popular in a state that Donald Trump won by 30 points, and how his party can begin to narrow the "God gap" with voters. Also this week—an A.I. vacuum cleaner has an existential crisis. It all started the day Val opened up a book that became a portal to an entire universe of deeper-stage LDS faith crisis healing.
