Summary In this episode, Andy talks with Faisal Hoque, author of Transcend: Unlocking Humanity in the Age of AI. Faisal brings a unique blend of deep philosophical insight, entrepreneurial experience, and technological expertise to the conversation. They explore how leaders can navigate the fast-evolving landscape of artificial intelligence while staying grounded in what makes us human. The discussion explores how to think about AI not just as a tool or collaborator, but as a mirror that reflects our biases and decisions. Faisal introduces the OPEN and CARE frameworks as practical ways to innovate while managing risk, making this conversation highly actionable for project managers and leaders. From detaching from digital noise to preparing the next generation for an AI-shaped world, Faisal offers a thoughtful roadmap for embracing technology without losing our agency. If you're looking for insights on how to thrive in the age of AI with both optimism and responsibility, this episode is for you! Sound Bites “You can be optimistic, but you can also mitigate risk at the same time. One doesn't really work without the other.” “Catastrophizing is not doomism, but it's really a risk management practice.” "AI is not just a tool or collaborator, it's a mirror." “Don't outsource your agency. It's easy to let AI nudge your decisions without even realizing it.” “Just like you don't put a 10-year-old in a car to drive... technology can do a lot of good, but it can also be disastrous.” Chapters 00:00 Introduction 01:33 Start of Interview 02:00 What From Your Background Shaped Your Thinking? 03:54 How Philosophy and Systems Thinking Intersect 06:00 Introducing the OPEN and CARE Frameworks 06:55 What Is the Human Role in an AI World? 09:43 How AI Can Subtly Influence Our Choices 11:40 Sci-Fi's Influence on AI Perception 15:07 What Is an AI Persona and How Do You Use Them? 18:13 Why AI Is Also a Mirror of Us 22:33 Introducing the OPEN Framework for Individuals 25:33 How Emotional Intelligence Applies to AI Partnership 27:02 The Role of Catastrophizing in Risk Management 28:58 The Value of Detaching and Devoting 32:03 How We Can Prepare Our Kids for an AI World 35:31 End of Interview 36:00 Andy Comments After the Interview 40:33 Outtakes Learn More You can learn more about Faisal and his work at FaisalHoque.com. Derek Rishmawy, Alastair Roberts, and Joseph Minich explore the Jesus People movement of the 1970s—from hippie communes to Calvary Chapel—and its lasting impact on American evangelicalism. They discuss the tension between Spirit-led revival and institutional church structure, examining how countercultural seekers became conservative evangelicals and what today's church can learn from this transformative era. Key Takeaway: The Jesus People movement reveals how the church's greatest evangelistic strength—meeting spiritual hunger with radical acceptance—can also become its greatest weakness without proper institutional structure and long-term discipleship. In this episode of Mental Matters, host Asekho Toto engages in a profound conversation with a distinguished meditation expert and author who shares their transformative approach to mental wellness through higher consciousness meditation. Blair challenges conventional beliefs about chronic pain, revealing that what many consider a lifelong condition can actually be overcome with the right mindset and practices. They detail their personal journey of developing a unique meditation process that works in harmony with one's higher consciousness, offering listeners an alternative to traditional meditation techniques that focus on forcefully quieting the mind. Throughout the discussion, the guest explains their daily routine of morning and evening meditation sessions, complemented by a mindfulness practice called "peace be still" that helps elevate consciousness throughout the day. This comprehensive approach addresses not only mental well-being but also provides tools for managing chronic pain and navigating life's challenges from a place of heightened awareness. Asekho openly shares his own struggles with meditation, admitting the difficulty he faces in "just sitting and being quiet," creating a relatable moment for listeners who may have similar experiences. The conversation emphasizes that everyone possesses the inner capacity for mental transformation, but this potential requires permission and consistent practice to fully emerge. The episode delves into the critical relationship between environment and mental health, highlighting how self-awareness can help individuals recognize environmental triggers and respond proactively rather than reactively. Blair emphasizes personal choice in mental health improvement, encouraging listeners to seek the light rather than spiraling downward during difficult times. This thought-provoking discussion concludes with the guest generously offering listeners access to their mindfulness book through their website, High Sea Meditation (hiseameditation.com), which will be linked in the show notes. Whether you're struggling with chronic pain, seeking alternative meditation approaches, or simply looking to enhance your mental well-being, this episode provides valuable insights and practical techniques for connecting with your higher consciousness and transforming your mental landscape.Sponsors and important linksSubscribe to my newsletter: asekhos-newsletter.beehiiv.com/subscribe if you are interested in newsletter beehiiv is the place to go: www.beehiiv.com?via=Asekho-TotoWant to be a guest on Mental Matters Hosted By Asekho Toto? We often celebrate codependence in nature, such as bees pollinating flowers and receiving nectar as their reward, yet when it comes to codependence in human relationships, it's frequently seen as a problem that needs to be fixed. In this episode, Thom gives us fresh perspectives on codependence, inviting us to celebrate our dependence on each other, while at the same time, learning to recognize when codependence has become dysfunctional. Thom also offers up terminology to help us clarify the distinction between functional and dysfunctional codependence, giving us the means to avoid adding to the stigma that has evolved around codependence.Episode Highlights:[00:45] We Cannot Live Without Dependency[03:32] Co-addiction[06:42] Freedom from the Tyranny of Addiction[09:36] Going Beyond the Constraints of Individuality[11:56] Vedic Meditation, Easier Than Just Having Everyday Thoughts[14:38] You Have to Start with Yourself[18:09] Survival vs Progress[20:50] Survival is a Product of EvolutionUseful Linksinfo@thomknoles.com https://thomknoles.com/https://www.instagram.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.facebook.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.youtube.com/c/thomknoleshttps://thomknoles.com/ask-thom-anything/

SummaryIn the wake of unimaginable tragedy, how does a community find its way forward—and what can we learn from their resilience? In this episode, we sit down with Rabbi Jeffrey Myers, who survived the deadliest anti-Semitic attack in American history at Pittsburgh's Tree of Life Synagogue. Rabbi Myers shares how his congregation and the broader Pittsburgh community responded to hatred with overwhelming acts of kindness and solidarity, and how he's become a national voice for interfaith understanding and eradicating the “H-word” from our daily lives.About Our GuestRabbi Hazzan Jeffrey Myers has served as the Rabbi and Cantor for the Tree of Life in Pittsburgh since the summer of 2017. He moved to the City of Bridges after spending decades in ministry in New Jersey and Long Island. He received a BA from Rutgers, an MA in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary and studied privately with Cantor Zvi Aroni before graduating from the Cantorial School of The Jewish Theological Seminary of America. After the horrific morning of October 27, 2018, when a heavily armed gunman began a murderous rampage in the Tree of Life, Rabbi Myers—who survived the attack—became the face of the tragedy. Since then, he has set about sending the key message that love is stronger than hate. Rabbi Myers contends that a lack of understanding of our neighbors leads to fear and sometimes loathing, which can lead to acts of violence. Rabbi Myers believes that if we are ever to remove the "H word" from our society, it must start with pledging not to use that word in speech, just as he has done in honor of the 11 lives lost at the Tree of Life. Rabbi Myers is a recipient of multiple awards, including 2019 recipient of the Simon Wiesenthal Center Medal of Valor, given out to those who exemplify the good deeds of outstanding individuals who honor mankind and whose courage and bravery shine a light in the darkest of places. Because of his service and actions during and after the Tree of Life massacre, Rabbi Myers received the medal which is inscribed: “He who saves a single life, it is as if he has saved an entire world.” He has testified before both Houses of Congress, participated in many gatherings in the White House, and has spoken throughout the United States on the proliferation of H-speech.Useful LinksTree of Life Synagogue – Rabbi Myers' Community: https://www.treeoflifepgh.orgRabbi Myers on Responding to Hate (CNN Feature): https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/18/us/rabbi-myers-pittsburgh-hate/index.htmlPittsburgh Synagogue Shooting – Background (Wikipedia): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh_synagogue_shootingFollow How to HelpInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/how.to.help.pod/Threads: https://www.threads.com/@how.to.help.podBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/howtohelp.bsky.socialFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/HowToHelpPodPleasant Pictures MusicJoin the Pleasant Pictures Music Club to get unlimited access to high-quality, royalty-free music for all of your projects. When you are presented with someone who is boring, the first thing that happens is that you want to stop talking and lose interest in them. You start to turn your attention elsewhere and move away. Therefore, one of the consequences of being boring is that it turns people off to them. You have to ask these questions: Why would someone choose to become boring? Why would someone want me to look past them? There are many reasons you can't think of, and in this episode, Adam Quiney dives into the ontology of being boring and how to transcend boring people. Listen and enjoy the show!

Ep.242 Shaunté Gates (b. 1979) lives and works in Washington, D.C. He studied at Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Bowie State University. Early in his career, Gates trained in oil painting and portraiture. His past experience as a tattoo artist and television motion graphics editor caused a profound shift in his artistic practice. His recent work employs a multidisciplinary approach, layering photography, painting, and found text to create dreamlike landscapes that explore labyrinthine social constructs and the physical sites that house and perpetuate them. Echoing the aesthetics of paper theater, his compositions unfold like intricate stage sets, where layered imagery and shifting perspectives evoke a sense of constructed reality and theatrical illusion. Gates was a participating artist in the Smithsonian Institution's “Men of Change” four-year traveling exhibition spanning ten museums, including the International African American Museum in Charleston, SC, California African American Museum, Cincinnati Underground Railroad Museum and Washington State History Museum (2019-23). He has been awarded the Louis Comfort Tiffany Biennial Grant (2022) and residencies with The Nicholson Project (2023), The Kennedy Center (2019) and Washington Project for the Arts (2018; 2017). Gates has work in esteemed private collections and institutions such as the Studio Museum in Harlem and Munson, Utica, NY. He has completed many public art commissions including Transcending, a painting commemorating the 140th anniversary of Howard University School of Law. What if your ego isn't the enemy—but a necessary part of your spiritual journey? In this episode, I'm diving deep into one of the most misunderstood parts of the human experience: the ego. So often in the spiritual world, we hear that we need to “kill the ego” or “rise above it,” but the truth is far more nuanced—and powerful. We'll unpack the true nature of the ego, exploring both its shadow aspects—like control, fear, and pride—and its light—the parts that drive our creativity, connection, and growth. I'll share why the ego isn't something to be eliminated, but integrated. When we demonize it, we miss the opportunity to actually understand what it's trying to show us about ourselves. We'll also talk about the very real consequences of living out of alignment with our true nature, the spiritual disconnection that so many feel, and how reconnecting with both the divine and your full humanity brings healing, clarity, and peace. This is an honest, heart-opening conversation that invites you into a more balanced, empowered relationship with yourself—ego and all.Tune in and let's walk this path to wholeness, together.Chapters00:00 Introduction to the Ego03:41 Understanding the Ego's Role in Spirituality09:10 The Misconceptions of the Ego12:39 Transcending the Ego vs. Being a Slave to It17:09 The Shadow Side of the Ego25:37 The Light Side of the Ego38:43 The Ego and the Absence of Light44:03 Understanding True Human Nature50:13 Navigating the Shadow and Light of the Ego59:19 The Consequences of Losing Our Soul01:06:19 The Spiritual Crisis and Identityego, spirituality, human experience, misconceptions, shadow side, light side, transcendence, identity, spiritual warfare, self-awareness, ego, light, human nature, spirituality, divine, enlightenment, shadow, soul, identity, consciousnessSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/ignite-the-spark-within. At the center of our cultural crisis is a clash of values. The current administration's actions reflect an age-old paradigm: us versus them, winners versus losers. It is driven by animal kingdom values, where “might makes right.” In this episode, we explore a different paradigm and a different set of values for transcending such limited thinking.
As we go into the final days of Pesach, the Geulah days, we dive into Rambams approach to the coming of Moshiach being "within nature". The Rambam explains that the core of Geulah is a natural world in which every Jew can fully live in alignment with Torah & mitzvos, deeply connected to Hashem. The Rebbe explains this as 2 stages of Moshiach. 1st stage - natural, 2nd stage - all the "extras" miracles! Miracles are not the essence, they are add ons, expressions of our incredible closeness with Hashem. (think wedding - covid times, we got the "essence" of the weddings - the bride, groom, and chuppah, vs regular times - with all add ons, dont lose sight of the essence). In the two stages of Geulah, the first is a natural reality where Moshiach empowers us to connect to Hashem in this world, and the second is a miraculous enhancement. But if we are zoche, if we live as our best selves today, those miracles can begin immediately. The Rebbe empowers us to believe in our own greatness and to break past our limits—this is really a miracle! Transcending nature. Through this, we will merit to see the full revelation of Moshiach and Hashem's open miracles, beginning now.Chelek Chof Zayin pg 191
Send us a textThis EP is a solo session. I didn't have an interview recorded, and I decided I would take the time to talk about where we find ourselves today in society at large, and perhaps what has led us to a difficult and unsteady state. The world at large ebbs and flows, grows, and contracts, and we as human citizens struggle to know what to look toward for solace and a sense of control. It's not easy living on this planet, but a lot of what can make it a better experience is how we understand ourselves. How what we see, and why we see it drives how we feel, and ultimately what we experience.I hope you find some value in my ramblings. Letting Go of the Ego. In this bitesize episode, we revisit a fascinating conversation with Michael Pollan, author of How to Change Your Mind and host of the Netflix series of the same name, about the transformative power of psychedelics and the profound experience of ego death. What happens when we realize we are not the mind, not the constant stream of thoughts we take as ‘me'? Psychedelics have long been used to dissolve the rigid limitations of the self, and Pollan explores how this temporary loss of ego can lead to lasting change—reducing anxiety, shifting perspectives, and offering a glimpse of a reality far beyond our usual mental constructs.
Psychology focuses on understanding and managing the mind's learned patterns, emotional struggles, and conditioned behaviors. Spirituality is about transcending these mental and emotional constructs to center on the consciousness which is aware of them. From this seat of witness consciousness, you can actually watch the mind create a false concept of self that is based on your past experiences. This false self leads to suffering unless the world matches how you think it should be. True spirituality involves realizing yourself as the conscious observer and learning to embrace life's experiences as a gift from Creation. You can learn to free yourself from suffering and achieve a state of peace, love, and self-realization. For more information, go to michaelsingerpodcast.com. © Sounds True Inc. Key Highlights: ✔️ The victim mentality ruins everything—how to break free. ✔️ Why service is the key to rising above resentment. ✔️ How great bhaktas turn misfortune into spiritual fuel. ✔️ The Rishikesh experience: when separation brings deeper connection. Original Air Date: June 10, 2021 Eckhart Tolle talks with a live audience about our tendency to manufacture stories...about ourselves and others; our desperate need to be right and to make others wrong. Eckhart says having a story actually strengthens the ego and keeps us stuck. However, we don't have to stay there. He says we can learn to shift our inner narrative, release the ego and align ourselves with the peace of the present moment.
Life's events are not personal; they are shaped by the force of cause and effect. Countless past causes are resulting in the moments that are unfolding in front of you. You take it personally because you are looking at life through the limited veil of your ego-mind. The personal mind was formed from the past experiences that made the strongest impressions on you. This distorts your perception of reality to your own limited frame of reference, creating unnecessary fear, anxiety, and suffering. By recognizing this truth, you can transcend your self-concept and align with the broader universe, unlocking profound love, peace, and self-awareness.
